I recently booked a massage at Excelsior Nails and Spa... wow.. felt super luxurious and was transported to paradise like sleep. The highest compliment I can pay a place is that when I am so comfortable and the massage is so good that I fall asleep or get into my zone I know I will be back. I love a clean, beautiful, warm atmosphere for a massge and my therapist provided that plus additional perks with armatheropy and Aveda products. Best pedicure ever! Went here with two friends for the first time and all three of us loved it! Exceptional customer service from the moment we walked in to the moment we checked out. My sister is due in 10 days so I thought it would be fun for us to get our nails done before the little one arrives. I thought of the Excelsior Nail and Spa, so my sister found a Groupon and we made an appointment for this past Saturday. Unfortunately, my sister did not read the fine print (her bad) and upon arriving she was informed that the Groupon was only for new customers and we could not use it for the service we had bought it for, but we could use the money towards any service. So we just decided to do the Spa pedicure. The Groupon cost $47 dollars, and our service cost $40 dollars. Upon checking out I was told that I could not use the extra seven dollars for a tip, and I couldn't carry it over for another service...I was just going to lose the money. Here's my question/complaint...couldn't the front desk person explain that to me when I checked in? I would have upgrade my service so I wouldn't have lost that money. Instead, she didn't tell me about any other service or that I should upgrade instead she continued to mop the floor and told me to pick out a color for my nails. To say the least, my sister and I won't be returning to this salon. There are other places that have much better customer service. The only good thing about the salon was their nail techs! I used to come here for massages and facials, and I enjoyed the experiance but when they changed aestheticians I got one that must have been trained at a used car dealership, because after service she immediately pushed product and follow-up visits on me. I know they typically make money on top of the product sales and obviously the more you come back they more money they make but I don't like hard sells so I never went back. read more

Had a facial and Brazilian yesterday. Facial was quick and nothing special. HOWEVER, the Brazilian was by far the worst I have ever received. It hurt more than it ever has & I'm not new to this service. She acted like she had somewhere else she had to be and rushed the whole thing. She would move skin, apply wax, and then let go to grab a strip which caused skin to adhere to skin. I honestly do not think she looked at what she was doing. I had an ice pack between my legs all evening. Once I was able to look at the work this morning (i.e. once the swelling had gone down & bleeding stopped) about 1/4 of the job was not done. To put it bluntly, there is still a sizable portion of hair left. I went back to the salon today to speak with a manager & was told by the receptionist that a manager will call me sometime this week. I asked if anyone wanted to look at things before I went & had things fixed and she was completely lost at this question. I then asked if she wanted me to write out my complaint & she informed me that was unnecessary since she would write it out later today when she had time. She never asked me specifics or what I had a complaint about. The receptionist also informed me that "if you never want to come back again for any service, I totally understand". I hope to hear from a manager soon & hope I'm able to report something good. read more

The massage and facial I got were wonderful. But when I made a suggestion to the person doing my massage I was brushed off. I am short, and I have some arthritis so it was difficult for me to get up on to the massage bed. I did not know I was going to have difficulty getting up on to the table until I had to do it. When the massage therapist came back in, I suggested they have step stools available for those of us having difficulty getting up on to the tables. Her response to me was, "We have a limited number of stools so we can't have them available for everyone in each room." Her response should've been one of acknowledgement and interest and concern. I won't let that incident keep me from going back there, tho. There are too many other services I want to try. read more

I have never had a worse massage experience, from beginning to end. The place is dirty, cheap looking and does not reflect the area of Excelsior it is located. I heard the toilet running right above my head because their massage room is directly underneath the restroom and the pipes are all exposed above the massage table. My masseuse was completely rude and made many strange comments - including one about how she hopes my wedding ring won't scrape her. They were very disorganized and tried very hard to get me to book more appointments before I left. Not a chance. Gross and unfriendly staff that seemed like they were begging for business. Would not be surprised it they were out of business soon. read more

I hesitate to give them a poor review after the two glowing reports, but my experience just wasn't as glowing, especially for the price. Without going into detail, I found the service somewhat impersonal. I haven't had a manicure in years, so I'm not experienced at this, but I don't think the quality of the pedicure or the manicure were worth what I payed. One finger had to be redone and the person who fixed it, did a beautiful job on the one finger...better than any of my toes or other 9 fingers, so it probably matters who you get. As for english speaking, I wouldn't say that they all speak fluently or enough to have a pleasant conversation. I only say that to level the expectation from the other two reviews. read more

I've had pedicures here and loved them. It's clean and they do a good job. It is more expensive, though, than other places I've been to. I recently purchased a special for a $65 body scrub or body wrap. I decided to do the body scrub (normally priced $75) to help get any dead skin off going into summer. I had no idea what to expect & did a bit of research. My experience at Excelsior Spa was not like any of my research. The appointment was supposed to be 60 minutes (their website says 65 minutes, the brochure sitting in the waiting are says 60 minutes). My name was called 5 min late by a nice lady for my appointment and I pulled into my driveway (~8 minutes away) exactly an hour later. The scrub itself maybe took 20 minutes. To clean off the scrub, she used a wet towel that she soaked in a tub of water after wiping down each body part. Didn't seem very clean to me to keep using the same tub of water. She scrubbed my entire front (minus my breasts & face, and with minimal time on my hands/feet/elbows), then flipped me over and scrubbed my back only. Then she lathered oil on me, massaged my stomach and said we were done. My skin feels soft (partially because I'm covered in oil), but I think the scrubbing could have been more thorough & lasted longer. The website describes this service as an "intense exfoliation." It was not intense. I could have done this at home by myself for free with the same results. After my appointment, I notified the front desk of my disappointment - particularly that my 60 min appointment had me at the front desk 40 min later. She smiled and simply said "OK," then sent me on my way. A very unfortunate way to handle a customer's valid complaint. I will not be back for anything other than a pedicure or manicure in the future. read more

My friend made appointments for us here, and me living in Minneapolis I thought "Excelsior Spa" was in St. Louis Park. Got into my car, and when I put the name on Google Maps I found out it was in Excelsior, the city - which I made a mad dash for. I arrive at 9:18 for our 9 am appointment, and wait by the front desk for two ladies to acknowledge me - which I regret doing since they were super dismissive. One of them tried to explain they don't accept appointments after 15 minutes, and that they can get me in for an express pedi - which was actually fine as I was fine with getting a quick pedi without any frills or massage. While that lady was explaining, however, the other one interrupts her while she's talking to somebody on the phone, and doesn't even explain what is going on as she is "very busy". In the end, I leave my friend, and wait for her pedi to finish after having driven quite a ways in a hurry on a Saturday morning. GREAT start to a weekend, and so worth my 30 minute drive there. If the front desk had the decency to be a little apologetic about the whole issue, it'd be fine and I might actually be back. But the way they handled the situation was so dismissive that I left thinking I don't want to spend my money here anyway. So, good job! read more

I just thought I would post some comments about Excelsior nail and spa. I chris was just there and received the worst massage ever. After complaining to the owner how bad it was she said that she would make it right. what a joke. Kay pawned it off on getting a refund from groupon. The masseuse yawned the whole time and had to take a bathroom break during the middle of the massage. I just thought everyone should know that they should not spend any money there if they wanted to get a good massage. Thanks for letting me rant. read more

i went in for a rejuvanation facial today. the spa itself is nicely decorated and welcoming. i had a 60 minute facial which included light extractions. the lady (forgot her name) was very friendly and did a wonderful job. the hour went by so quick and at the end of it, i can feel my skin was so soft and smooth. my skin looks a lot brighter than before. the facial included a really nice shoulder, head and an arm massage. i can tell the place gets pretty busy given it was a thursday. i had a 10am appt and a few ppl were already there when i went in. location is nice, right at the edge of water st overlooking the bay. overall a very good experience and i hope to return. read more

This place is a complete gem. It's beautifully appointed, extremely relaxing, and probably the most friendly nail salon I have ever encountered. I live in Chicago and came here last weekend with a friend who lives nearby. Every single person we interacted with was genuinely nice and friendly. Every. Single. Person. The owner was there and making conversation with all the customers. It's clear she operates a business that shows her employees a lot of respect because they all get along really well. The massage was suburb as is the massage therapist. My only concern is that the prices for massage are higher than what I like to pay. Thankfully, there is a coupon for a discount for re-booking. Might suggest that just lowering the price without the re-book coupon just seems more straight forward. read more

I was in the Twin Cities from out of town last week, and had a spa mani/pedi (with gel manicure) done here one week ago. The pedi was fine and I was pleased with all the nail shaping, but the man who did my nails did not do a good job on the gel manicure. When you get gel you hope it will look great for a week at least. He painted too close to my skin, so that as soon as my nails started to grow a little there was a ridge created by the thick coat of paint near my cuticles. After two days the paint ridge started lifting by the cuticles, and after about four days it looked awful. You could see that the paint wasn't adhered for about 1/4 of the nail, from the cuticle out. I had my usual nail girl at home remove the gel yesterday, and she said she could easily see that the nail tech at Excelsior hadn't removed enough of the cuticle on the nail, and because of this the gel didn't adhere well enough to the nail. Bummer! In addition, the nail technician cut my skin at the cuticle on one finger. I actually bled onto the un-dried gel polish and the technician did not wipe it away, so the blood got kind of baked into the sheer pink paint on that finger... just a small spot, but painful and not cute. I had the impression that a lot of the other customers were steady and seemed like they were with their go-to technician, so I might have just gotten unlucky when I made a last-minute appoint the night before. But next time I need my nails done in the Twin Cities I will be seeking out a different place. :) read more

I received a call from the owner two weeks after requesting to be contacted regarding my issues with Excelsior Nails and Day Spa. This call came within a couple days of having posted my disappointment on yelp. I am not sure I would have received a call back if I wouldn't have posted something here considering that she requested that I either remove or amend my statements. She offered to refund a fraction of the money that was spent which was a nice gesture but her main reason for calling me had more to do with my original post than anything else. I really wish I didn't feel the way I do about this business. They have a great location and their spa is clean. When I originally went there the first time for a massage and a facial, I thought the technicians were awesome but still felt the front staff wasn't very friendly. The technicians I originally had have since left. My husband and I purchased massages for Valentine's Day one year but our appointments were canceled due to something to do with the building (not their fault). Eventually we received our appointments and thought our massages were very good. My husband also had an appointment for a facial that was canceled due to the technician being bit by a dog on the day of his appointment. He still has to go back to receive the facial. I feel I have given Excelsior Nails and Day Spa a lot of chances to provide good services to me and my family. read more

We got a gift certificate for mother's day from my husband. We were scheduled for wake me when its over pedicure and signature deluxe manicure. Being pregnant I was excited. Services weren't fair...I knew that I needed gelish removed from my toes and wanted gelish ony hands. My mom didn't need that but wanted, she just wanted a french on her hands. The pedicures were okay...my hot atones were barely even warm the massage didn't have much pressure. My mom had a great massage all through out the pedicure and manicure. When they took off my gel they just peeled it...that is improper. I am in the industry I know how to. When the gel was done on my hands she wasn't going to do a third coat like the color need. Since it was a glitter color and also applied the coats very thin and chintzy. So it didn't look very even...my mom even noticed. I got the parffin dip and my mom didn't. She got hot towels during her manicure...i didn't. She also got hot stones during the neck and shoulder massage... you gueesed it I didn't receive that either. When we told the front desk we were basically getting called liars....I understand you need to ask your employees but not infront of us. Don't go back and forth with us when the customer is right and showing you.your website. Plus being in the industry knowing how things should be done....we won't be going back again...was a decent service but still..... read more

Have been looking for a place for massage/facials since my favorite long time provider moved out of state. Bought a groupon for a facial and was very pleased with Rachel who did my facial and the facility.facility is clean, comfortable and quiet. I had a very personally tailored and professional facial. Have been back for another and since I had such a good experience, booked a massage. Had an excellent massage with Joanna. I hate when you go some places and can't completely relax because you can hear people in other rooms or hallways. Not here. Joanna actually went over the time of the session to give extra attention to some problem areas. Left feeling a lot better than when I went in.Therapists are well trained, attentive and friendly. High quality products and services, reasonable prices. Front desk staff could be more welcoming and friendly.Not close to my home, but worth the drive ! read more

Save your time and frustration. My husband purchased a gift certificate online which I never received. I called, told them I never got anything in the mail, they said oh that's ok come on in . I had a facial booked and when I went to pay with my online certificate I was told it didn't exist...they had no record of the online transaction so I had to pay for my service and then provide them with my VISA statement showing the original transaction. They refunded me the difference of $50 in the form of more gift certificates (like I wanted to go back?). This week my daughter was home from college and wanted to use the remaining certificate for a manicure. Upon arrival she looked at the polishes available. Old, crusty, separated nail polish. The entire "spa" was filthy...dirty floors, dirty countertops, front desk looked like a tornado hit it. We just wanted to leave so I offered the certificate to the girl at the desk, told her we didn't want any services and she got the manger. Oh joy. Manager came out, attitude in hand...what's the problem? Told her the scoop and she was like "what do you want?" I told her I wanted my money back. Of course she had to call 14 people because she didn't know how to handle a frustrated customer. She finally offered to credit my husband's account and when I asked for the cash back she was like ok here and handed me $50. Pretty sure she didn't give it a second thought. Poor business all around. Wouldn't go back. In fact we drove down the road about two miles and had beautiful manicures for $1 more than Excelsior Nail and day Spa at a real upscale salon. read more
