We are live in Santa Rosa and our business is in Rohnert Park. We liked the idea of dealing with a local bank. We have accounts at BofA and US Bank too. We wanted to switch everything over to Exchange Bank. Well, we're definitely not doing this now. Why? - Their fees are high. They nickel and dime their customers for everything. - The business accounts don't allow Zelle. Many customers pay us via Zelle. - They don't allow Venmo immediate deposits. - they don't notify you if there's an issue (except by mail). Probably because they garner more fees this way. For instance, I deposited a large check in there the other day. It said the funds will be available the next business day. I had set up some payments going out the next day. They all went through, but only after EB charged a few $35 fees for covering the "NSF" checks. I was not notified of this until a few days later--in the mail. US Bank and BofA send me an immediate notice via text and email if there is such an issue (yes, I opted in for electronic notices with EB, but it's useless). -Their app is antiquated and often gives conflicting and confusing information. -there was plenty of money in the account, that is clear and available to use, but they often reject charges. Not from small obscure companies either. Microsoft, Google,Target, etc. I am truly afraid to use the debit card, because it's like playing roulette in regards to it being accepted or not, and I would never even attempt to use it while going out to dinner with friends, avoiding the possibly embarrassment of having the card being incorrectly declined. Bottom line, is EB loves fees, and does not have their customers' interests in mind. The personal account experience is no better. They do have Zelle though, but same issue regarding Venmo. Also, there's usually a one-day-delay on most ACH deposits, etc.--one day later than traditional banks, I mean. Shame on you guys. The greed and incompetence is noticed and unappreciated. You're not some small-time friendly bank like you claim to be. Then you call them up to talk with one of their "fabulous agents", but unless "fabulous" means grumpy, they are far from it (I'm always nice with them by the way, but after today's experience, I am done. Awful Bank. It took two weeks after applying for a business banking account to hear from them that they didn't want to open the account. The business is completely legitimate and federally regulated and registered but is was considered too risky for them. If you're a business that doesn't do cash transactions and is a business that transacts in basic retail services that are only done in eft, they might open an account for you. Other than that, as a business you are out of luck. read more

I was a member of the exchange bank forever. My branch was by the Coddingtown Mall. I kept a good amount of cash in my account, and I was never overdrawn. I was always polite to the tellers and never had an issue with anyone that works there. Unfortunately, the staff was always rude to me. But they are rude to everybody, so that's not surprising. I switched to Redwood Credit Union, and i'm very happy now. I do not recommend exchange bank. read more

A business I work with has an account at Exchange bank. It took weeks for them to create a log in for me. I had to call and email multiple times. I would not personally bank here nor would I recommend them to anyone. From what I understand the bank was founded in 1890 and still functions like it's 1890. I was able to open an account and leave Redwood Credit Union with a debit card in hand same day! Exchange bank's merchant services are embarrassingly slow as well. read more

This is the only bank in the area with a drive through. It's very convenient. I have banked here for 8 years and they have always helped me with any issue I've had. They are kind and polite. read more

I came back from a vacation to receive a call from my Landlord that he had not received my rent check, which had been scheduled to pay from Exchange Bank Pop Money since 2017. It seems that when they went over to their new digital banking, the check did not go out because they eliminated the external service that did Pop Money. When I went on the website, I saw that it showed up in Bill Pay but all the data had changed. Talking to them on the phone about it did not resolve the issue. If I wanted to put a Rush on the payment, it would cost $19 and if I wanted them to just send out the check, it would not be there until 8/12. So I am going to write a check myself and put it in the mail, and then I am going to open an account somewhere else and move my money out. As far as I can tell, here is no such thing as customer service with these folks. read more

Just another greedy bank! I went in to cash a check from one of their customers and the teller said that they charge a $5 fee because I'm not an account holder. BofA (a.k.a., Bank of A-holes) does the same thing. Should it matter that I'm not their customer? The check I have is from one of their customers and I wonder how they would feel if they knew about this sneaky fee? This is EXACTLY why I bank at Redwood Credit Union. read more

I love this bank, it's like walking into Cheers, where everyone knows your name. I do 95% of my banking online and have never had any problems. The few times that I did go inside the bank I am always greeted with a friendly "Hello" from Elsa Campos. She is fantastic, she never disappoints. I have had several things that I needed to have taken care of and she has always been there to assist me and get the job done. This bank has a lot of small issues that make them annoying to work with. - Two layer authentication is mismanaged and has constant issues. None of which can the phone support people troubleshoot properly, because exchange bank doesn't manage their own auth system, they contract it out through Intuit. Phone support will tell you that clearing your cookies fixes everything, when in many cases it doesn't. So it's extremely easy to get locked out of your own online banking system. And guess what, there's no way to turn off two-layer authentication either. You HAVE to use a cell phone or email to sign in with a code each and every time. Very annoying and impractical. - Their hours. They close early on weekends. They close early the day before holidays. They are rarely open past 5:00pm. If you're someone who actually works longer hours who needs the bank to be open beyond 9:00-5:00, good luck with that. - Their loan procedures. I have excellent credit, a good amount of funds traveling through my accounts as I'm an engineer. I wanted to add a small line of overdraft to my account just in the case of any mix ups to avoid fees. I was given a loan form that was basically equivalent to a mortgage loan application to apply for this. Every other bank I've used just checked my account standing and added overdraft. Not Exchange Bank. I'd had to see what a real loan application would look like through them. I wanted to like them, and I switched to them because I'd love to support community banking more, but this company is just not ready for primetime. Poor hours, poor IT infrastructure, poor loan qualification procedures. I'm not a fan and will be switching back to a larger bank. read more

Exchange Bank has the best customer service of any bank I've ever worked withe. Elsa Campos has gone above and beyond to help me with some difficult banking challenges for my elderly aunts. She is always available and returns phone calls immediately. I would recommend Exchange Bank to anyone would loves Old Fashion customer service. read more

I like Exchange and I like banking at a local bank...in particular I like their drive thru services...the "folks" in the bank have always been helpful and courteous and now know me pretty well. What I don't like is their online services and weird charges for depositing checks via phone app...as a small business person I would like to make deposits digitally from my office but $.50 a check?...come on now... or charges for giving you check images with your statement (recent)...it is irritating and so behind the technology times...they need an upgrade to more fluid technology rather then using a third party to run their online services and remove the irritating charges....I will still stay with them for now but as soon as Summit or another local bank upgrades...I will be moving read more

I have been a customer of Exchange Bank since 2007. This bank partnered with some friends of mine to throw a fundraiser when my daughter was in a horrible car accident. I had to commute back and forth to the hospital (Sacramento and Walnut Creek) for 11 months. They setup an account for donations, helped people find the account when they would call or come by, and would call me when it was low so I wouldn't get stuck on the road with no gas and no idea. It was the Cotati branch that did all that. Just amazing. When I moved to the other side of Rohnert Park I started using the Commerce Blvd branch. They are very nice there too. Always been helpful to me and my son, who also banks with EB. I got my car loan with them. They helped me figure out that I could get a newer car for the same money I was going to put towards an older, interim car. I really feel taken care of by this bank - when I ask for help. I use their iPhone app and online banking, too. Haven't had any major problems with either. read more
