So out of town on vacay and my nails are a disaster so I Yelp the closest nail place and find this place. They get an extra star as they took me straight away without an appointment on a busy Saturday of a holiday weekend. They had nice color choices as well as preferred OPI brand. I sat down ala masked and the nail technician quickly went to work. Note she asked how did I want them filed and they are better than expected a perfect squared all the same length. I paid before the polish $15 for basic manicure and I made it even $20. due to the great luck of me getting in at the right time as well as a perfect manicure. i have been nail salon hopping for quite some time. this nail salon is very accommodating and my nails look great. best ever actually! my shellac pedicure yesterday was perfect. and my Dip nails are great. they don't apply too much powder so that they're thick... My nails are perfectly manicured. Luckily, Exciting Nail & Spa is right next to Hannafords, so I can get my groceries AND also pamper myself. Take note, that they do have specials, but like ALL nail shops, they will try to squeeze whatever extra dollars they can with upgrades. Sounds like you're at the dentist, right? *My rant: IF I WANT THE SPECIAL THAT COSTS X AMOUNT OF DOLLARS, THEN THAT'S WHAT I WANT. Don't try to ask if I want gel, because if I wanted it, I WOULD HAVE ASKED FOR IT*. Gel looks nice & it doesn't chip. BUT it is SO bad for my nails, because of the strength of it when I try to take it off. Yes, you are supposed to soak those suckers in acetone, but that already sounds lethal to begin with. Regardless, I will certainly return on a bad day when I feel like splurging on myself. They do a great job. My nail lady questioned the color of my choice, and some would feel insulted... But, I'm actually glad I listened because the color she picked was beautiful for my hands! I didn't listen on the coat with my feet, and now I wish I did... the pink I liked, turned out to be a bright orange. whoops. NOTE: This place gets PACKED on the weekends. I called ahead for a same day pedicure. When I arrived, a woman who walked in ahead of me almost (?) took my appointment, and had I not spoken up, very well may have. This, while unexpected, had nothing to do with the Exciting Nails and Spa staff, who were all awesome and super friendly. There were tons of polish colors to choose from and they had those pedicure massage chairs which I LOVE!! I always feel slightly guilty when getting a pedicure, because..., you know..., most people's feet are pretty gross. So I always make sure to thank the pedicurist profusely, on behalf of myself, and the countless others, who spent most of their time looking at their phones, while someone worked at upgrading their feet. My pedicurist was fantastic. It came with a leg/foot scrub and massage! By the time she was done with my feet, they felt and looked brand new! Thank you Exciting Nails! read more

I went to Exciting Nails as my regular nail tech told me that I am too fussy (I had just had a fill & gel manicure The morning after noticed that four of my 10 fingers topcoat was peeling so I made an appointment went back and got it fixed tipped again, and I was told I am too high maintenance and she can't do me any longer) so that brings me to exciting nails it is it best decision I've made in a while for a nail tech a girl there Chan (I think her name was) very kind gentle sweet and patient I will go back every time I think I have found my new girl! Came here for a dip manicure. It was only $32, pretty good deal. A husband and wife team own the place, its got at least eight mani and pedi stations so pretty spacious inside. The wife was super welcoming, the husband though he started my manicure was a little abrupt and rude. The other tech, who finished up my manicure I unfortunately didn't get her name, took her time and did a really good job shaping my nails. I've never had a dip manicure before I like how bright the color is, but it definitely takes a lot longer than gel. read more

Exciting Nail was the first result when I searched Yelp for gel manicure in Portland, and once again, Yelp did not fail me. Many reviews mentioned their gel color selection, and they weren't joking! I just relocated here from San Francisco, and I don't think my nail place there had anywhere near the selection of Exciting Nail. For some reason, nude shades (my personal fave) can be hard to find and there are PLENTY to choose from here. I've been in for a gel manicure twice now. The first time, I popped in on a weekday, right after they opened at 9am, and got right in. The second time I made an appointment for 6pm, and had to wait an extra 20 minutes to get in, which was kind of annoying but not a deal breaker. They are super quick with the gel application so I was still out of there by 7pm. This is definitely my new nail place in Portland! read more

I had read really positive Yelp reviews about the salon so I had high expectations that it would be a great experience. Yelp lived up to the hype! My nail tech was Jenny and she was so sweet and very concerned if she was hurting me when removing ingrown toenails(which she wasn't really!) I have to update my review as I have been disappointed the last couple times I've gone. The space seems messier/dirtier then in previous trips. Also, my last pedicure was not nearly as good as my first few there. The gentleman clearly wasn't sure about what he was doing and his pain job (shellac) was somewhat messy. I was disappointed. While I will probably be back as they are really accommodating with my unpredictable schedule, they probably won't be my first choice. This was the BEST mani/pedi I've ever had! I called this afternoon to see if they could fit me and my husband in for a pedicure (and a manicure for me) before we left for vacation. All my usual places closed early and since I was traveling from an hour away, I needed a later appointment. They were accommodating. Once we got there, we had the entire shop to ourselves. The staff was so nice and professional. Even though they closed at 8, they took their time and gave us expert service. I got the best foot and leg massage I've ever had with a pedicure, without a doubt. The manicure was great. I got shellac and they took their time to make it perfect. The color selection was excellent (regular and gel colors). The space was clean, bright and inviting. Great chairs with excellent massagers. After all the solid yelp reviews and vacation on the horizon, I was ready to give a new salon a try. There is no doubt that some of the friendliest women in the business work at Exciting Nails. I made 4 appointments, and those went off without a hitch. I will suggest making an appointment, especially if it's the weekend. While we were in there, I watched people get turned away because they were too busy. Their manicure/pedicure special is $37. With the $ on yelp, I did not expect to pay $50 for a gel manicure and regular pedicure. I've never been charged more than $5 for a gel upgrade. I felt frustrated by that up-charge, especially since their prices aren't posted anywhere in the salon. I felt caught off guard when she said it was $50 for that service. In addition, a male pedicure with no polish at all is the same price as a pedicure for someone who gets polish. Lastly, when I asked for change to tip, she didn't have any small bills to break it. I felt badly because it meant the girls weren't able to get the appropriate tip. We may come back in the future because it's a local business, and who in Portland doesn't want to support those? read more

I came here because I was looking for a salon that was open on Sunday-my regular salon is on a month and a half vacation-and the others I have tried in the meantime have been unfortunately mediocre-meaning my gels have been only lasting a week. They were busy, and take anyone that walks in the door, this makes for long wait times and really no point in making appointments. They are located right by Hannaford, so I'm sure that they get a lot of foot traffic. The nice young woman that did my gels made sure I was happy with the final product, and so far so good.
