I'm surprised by the bad reviews. Perhaps they are old? The space is located in the semi-sketchy shopping center on St. John street (right next to Subway). The space inside is clean and comfortable. The women working at the time were very friendly, professional and talented. My friend and I called 5 minutes ahead and were seated right away for pedicures on a Saturday afternoon. The tubs were lined with plastic and the ladies wore gloves. Everything was well maintained. We chatted them up as they did our nails and we felt comfortable and pampered. Went here with my girlfriend at the time. The second you walk in the door you will smell the nail polish. It's not over powering but if your not used to it you will notice it. The staff are very quick and happy to do most anything you like. They do good work in my option. (Meaning my girlfriends hands and toes looked good) They have a good size space and it's not packed. STILL on the search for my go-to nail salon in the Portland area. Sadly that search did not reach an end today. Happy Nails is within walking distance of my home, so I stopped in prior to work for a much needed pedi and waxing. It was mid-seventies on this day, and a very humid type of heat as Maine summers have. There is NO air conditioning, which was an instant turn-off for me, as I am coming into a salon to relax and refresh. I would have probably requested a more intense pedicure if it wasn't for this. They also put my feet into incredibly hot water-this didn't complement the already uncomfortable temps inside. The massage chair was painful and the buttons so worn that I couldn't figure out how to adjust it so I just turned it off. They do the lotion and massage after painting the nails, at least my tech did, which was very strange to me. I gave four stars however because the tech I had did an AWESOME job of removing my two ingrown toenails with little to no pain in comparison to most techs. They are the worst and no matter what I do, I cannot get rid of them and have pedicures typically twice a month to control them. She was conscious of the pain but also did not pin me down or just not remove it altogether. Great eyebrow wax, by the way :) read more

Great salon for when you're in a pinch and just need to get your nails done. Ladies were sweet and accommodating. I got a gel manicure and it was one of the first gel manicures I've had where the gel wasn't bulked on thick! Thank you ! My friend got a tips and dip manicure which came out beautifully. The prices are very reasonable and I was able to call and get in that afternoon with my friend. The only thing that I was not impressed with was my hand massage, but that's it! Check this place out! Just had an excellent shellac manicure! They open at 9:00 which is great. I was able to get right in and my nails look awesome! The young lady was chatting with me and has a lovely personality. The shellac was going on a bit thin so she gave me three coats and they're now perfect! Great experience and great service! read more

They do it all. Hair.. Nails.. Waxing... Facials.. And major bonus THEY HAVE PARKING!!! As they reside in the same lot as the dollar store and Save-Something grocery. My favorite subway is next door. Ooooĺ they also have wifi. Very cool. But anyways I go for the nails.. Avg prices, colors, and options.. BUT the gels and acrylics have always lasted me easily 4 weeks without ever losing a nail and trust me my job is really hard on them so I absolutely save money in the end. They also do an amazing pedicure with multiple options. Never tried the hair services bit I love what I know. read more

I love this place! I get an amazing mani (pedi every once in a while) every two weeks from them! They are great conversationalist and take their time to do exactly what you would like. They have the best color selection for regular polish and gel. I popped into Happy Nail before a Seadogs game with friends because I had time to kill before the game started. I get my nails done A LOT and have experienced many different salons in between my travels from Maine to Rhode Island. I was not impressed with this establishment as soon as I walked in. It was dirty and hot. They clearly didn't have A/C, which should be a staple for a nail salon where people go to relax. Basically, I don't think it's absolutely ludicrous to be COMFORTABLE when treating yourself. I gave this place a chance because they came on recommendation from a co-worker. When I walked in, all of the women were busy with others except for one. They told me to pick a color and then take a seat. All I wanted was a color change, which means they only have to paint my nails with the shellac color. When I sat down a woman came over and started taking off my polish in the usual fashion. I sat there with tinfoil and cotton balls on my fingers for at least 20 minutes before they realized I was still sitting there. They had all already started helping others. Then, a woman came over and tried to give me a full manicure, but I didn't have time. She then rushed through my color change and it turned out terrible. Needless to say I won't be back. When going to nail salons it's all about the experience and they did not provide a very good one. read more

The service was great when I went in for a fill, but after a few days I noticed that the line where it blended with my last fill was very obvious. I went back in and asked them to fix the problem spots, and they refused to do it. They would only fix the bad job if I paid full price for a new set. After arguing for 10 minutes with me, they offered to take 10% off the full price. Since there was no way I would pay for a repair of a bad service that should have been fixed for no charge, I left and told them I would not be back again. The massage and paraffin wax dip were the highlights of the pedi. After my pedi Tina got me started on my fill and color change and she did an amazing job. Sure, the place isn't a high end salon, but it's clean, the staff is friendly and attentive, and there's even free parking. Don't go here if you want the best of everything, all brand new bottles of polish and perfect communication. Calling ahead isn't necessary but it doesn't hurt. I took my daughter in just after 5pm on Labor Day for back-to-school mani pedis - a plus that they were open. We had to wait a bit for a couple of ladies to be free, but the seating was comfortable. My daughter had the regular mani pedi, while I added callus removal and paraffin to my pedicure. The two ladies were quiet but polite and efficient. My daughter and I agreed that the brushes used to clean our toes and feet were a bit rough, but overall we were pleased with the service and results. We were there right up until their 7pm closing time, and they did begin cleaning as we were finishing up, but I didn't mind as we were not rushed out. I could see us returning as the service was pretty good and the prices were reasonable ($25 for a regular pedicure and $33 for their mid-level pedicure + $12 for a regular manicure). read more
