I have spent many a late night filling up on the awesome greasy food at 3 am. Prices are LOW and you can get a breakfast or pretty much anything on the menu, anytime. If you spend low, tip big! As a truck driver I travel across the country and I always have a eye open for a good place to eat. The Exit 45 is a stop I make every time. The food is always good and the staff always make feel like I've come home. My dessert has to be a slice of pie, a meal on its own, and I'm never disappointed. My most recent visit I had a bacon cheeseburger and fries. It was awesome!! Real cheddar, a thick slice, not some cheap cheese slice and topped off with fresh onions and lettuce. The fries were just right too. For desert a slice of cherry pie. I think all the cherries on 1 tree went into that one pie. I was stuffed. This restaurant is paired with a nice variety store/ gas station with clean bathrooms and plenty of parking for both cars and trucks. I-94 @ x45. Just off the interstate. If your looking for fast food don't stop here. I'm sure there's a McDonald's nearby. BUT If your looking for home cooking in a comfortable atmosphere with this is where you go. Wow. Just wow. Fantastic service, incredible food, amazing atmosphere, and unbelievably low prices. I've been here quite a few times over the course of three years, and I've always had a peppy waitress who always seemed to put me in a great mood. Refills were always suggested before I even noticed I was getting low. The food is GOOD. You get a LOT of it, too. I'd suggest the cheese curds as an appetizer, you get a freaking lot of them. The burgers are amazing, and the fish is really good. I'm a HUGE fan of their fries as well. If you're ever traveling down I94 and you happen to pass by the actual exit 45, get off and stop in at the restaurant Exit 45. There's a Cenex attached to the restaurant, and a Kwik Trip just down the road, so the location for a truck stop is really good as well. read more

Family and I were excited to stop here on the way back from MN on our long trip back to IL. The reviews looked promising and the menu also looked good when we sat down. We wanted to try all the things! Especially pie after dinner! Well, we should have told the waitress that right away, and you'll find out why. My sister and I ordered skillets. Very small portion compared to what we get in IL. Tasted good, but was cold except the center? The table next to us came in after us but got their food first and our waitress barely came around to our table. My pancakes were almost cold as well. Mom ordered eggs, pancakes, and bacon. All was good except, again, cold very quickly? The worst part was that our waitress never came back to our table. We waited and waited with plates stacked for her to come and offer us desert or the check... she didn't. She finally asked us, across the room, if we wanted the check after waiting around 10 minutes. At this point we didn't want the pie anymore. Mom smiled and said happy Mother's Day to her at the register and all she said was thanks, didn't say it back or even smile. Altogether could have been a 5 star review with a waitress that gave a dang. Also, could have sold 3 slices of pie. Guess we all lost out. read more

I have been to this restaurant so many times and last night was awful. I had the fish 2 pcs, mash potatoes with chicken gravy which I'm so glad I ask for it on the side because it was nasty. The potatoes look like they took a baked potato mashed it dry, the fish was so small a McDonald's hamburger is bigger. All I can say must have a new cook this order was to go read more

Food and dessert are good here. I think the price is a little high given it is a diner setting in a gas station. I have been there twice. Seriously. It is one of the best burgers ever (3 people had them at my table and loved them). One guy wanted a second one to go because he liked it so much. The service is great. Stopped here on our way out of town on our road trip to Yellowstone. Nothing spectacular but the eggs Benedict was really good. My biggest complaint was their House Recipe ketchup (I'm a Heinz girl) but overall, no real complaints. A good place to stop if you are hungry and in need of breakfast. Place is the restaurant attached to gas station and easy interstate off/on access. Had to stop due to high marks and comments on Yelp. Vintage booths and bar stools take me back in time to my childhood from the 70's-- although these are new -- they are made to look vintage. Nice family-style diner, conveniently located in the same building as the gas station. Waitress was very kind and helpful, food was good and what you'd expect from a place the locals seem to go - hits the spot and prices are reasonable. Nothing fancy, a little run down, but that's what happens to a place that's right off the interstate. Tried the artichoke spinach soup and I really liked it! They offered a sample of it first, which helped me decide what to order. Also got the Reuben sandwich with the thousand island dressing on the side. The corned beef was cut nice and thick, just like mom used to make. Homemade potato chips were really good and crunchy. Husband got a double cheeseburger which he said was good but his fries were way too salty for our taste. Got the homemade blackberry/raspberry poptarts to go. REALLY scrumptious! The pastry crust was buttery and flaky and they weren't overly sweet like the kind you had as a kid. I'd go again just for those! read more

This is by far my favorite truck stop restaurant in the Midwest. I have only been here one other time besides tonight and that was almost 8 years ago. But just that one time made me remember it forever. The only reason I have only been here twice is because I don't get up to this area too often and when I do I'm usually racing to deliver or pick up a load so I can't stop. But I will look for loads up to this area and make time to come here as much as I can! read more

We have been coming here for the last 16 years and have always loved our visit/food. This time was not the same. There was only one unfriendly server who made it known it was her day off. The restaurant was full and she only stopped at our table two times, once to give us water/take our order and once to drop off our food/check. The food was lack luster and the check was almost $25 for two people who got burgers and fries! For that price, we could have splurged at Applebees and got better food and service. It's a shame that place charges so much now. I'll go somewhere else for those prices! read more

It was pretty good basic food, and the restaurant is co-located with a gas station right off the highway. The yelp feature to get driving directions had me driving all over town, so I had to use google maps to find the restaurant. There's a sign that says restaurant, but it does not say exit 45 restaurant; when I first got to the restaurant I was left wondering if I was at the right place, but it all ended well. read more
