Came to the escape room with 5 wonderful Highschool kids as part of a mentorship program. None of us have been to an escape room before so we had no idea what to expect. We did the room with a medium difficulty level but weren't able to escape on time. But it didn't matter as we had so much fun. Such a great and unique team bonding activity! On this group outing we decided to do the Exodus Escape Room. I will say it's amazing to think in a random city building there is a floor dedicated to escape rooms but I digress. When we walked into the room itself I was already panicking as I did not see much to start the escape process in itself. Hardly any book shelf's, tables or doors to find objects. Everything had a lock on it so we knew we definitely had a mission. Also it was a bit confusing as some things in the room had nothing to do with the escape room. They do mark the items with a red x but it was very unfortunate. We seemed to have been in the corner room which had a real exit door and real elevator which is not the best for safety reasons. With all the fun and excitement someone eventually will try to open them. The puzzle was definitely a lot harder than we anticipated but it felt great when we worked together and figured it out! We did have to ask for clues along the way and they did a great job of not entirely giving it away and letting us decipher it amongst ourselves. This room is 1 hour but the last few mins is always the best. I definitely suggest a large group for these escape rooms they are so much fun. We escaped the exodus !!!! read more

Old and worn down. Some puzzles are okay but some are impossible because of the condition of the equipment. I am a fan of escape rooms and have done quite a few of them. This was not my favorite location. Spread across two floors the location is quite easy to find. Booking is simple and the rooms are private which is nice. Tried two rooms here (Masquerade and quarantine). Both rooms had okay puzzles. Most of them made sense but some equipment was so beat up it was hard to make out letters or sounds. The room was pretty old school and lock based and the few pieces of cool technology were so run down that the person had to give us the answer because there was no way we could solve it (trying to to give away the answers). Overall, the condition of this room wrecked the experience. It made puzzles hard to do and destroyed the ambiance of the room. There are certainly better rooms in NYC. read more

A group of 5 of my friends did the escape room themed: Exodus, based around an Egyptian exhibit in a museum We had no one else in the room with us so it was fun to be able to work together to find all the clues. I highly recommend doing it that way versus doing it with other people that you don't know. It's easier to work together to find clues to get out There was one unique clue that kinda scared us a little but it made for a more fun experience! We didn't realize the difficulty levels before booking the room which in hindsight would've helped us choose which theme would have been better suited for us. Exodus is the easiest, The Hounds is second, Masquerade is the hardest. The host was very casual that we didn't know when the game had started and when she was actually being serious about what was a clue and what wasn't, though I guess it was all part of the game, so pay attention! Entertaining and fun activity for a group of friends! We came in one night and did both the Three Little Pigs and the Christmas Ghost game. For those uninitiated to this whole escape room craze, basically you get locked in a room and have to solve a slew of clues and puzzles to fulfill certain objectives and find your way out. At 59:59, the games and clues were really well thought out; and after completing the games, you really gain an appreciation for the effort the game designer put into carrying certain themes throughout all the clues. Before you begin the games, the facilitator gives you a briefing and description of each of the rooms, including difficulty and the percentage of people who escape. For us, the Christmas Ghost room was much more difficult than the Three Little Pigs, but both were super fun! When you get stuck, there's a monitor in the room that can display clues to help you out. At the end of the game (regardless if you escape or not) the clue master will walk you through the room and explain the proper solution and how the clues were tied together. I really enjoyed hearing the logic behind the rooms, and all the different pop culture/historical themes that run through each individual game. The escape room is conveniently located in the heart of Korea Town, so getting a group together, having a meal, doing an escape room, and then discussing it over a drink can be an easy, great night out with friends! What a fun thing to do on a Saturday night! Something different was what we all needed to stray away from the usual restaurant outings. We arrived late unfortunately (due to oversleeping our nap) but the staff was so kind and welcoming. We chose "The Hounds of Baskerville." We had a really great experience at 59:59! We decided to try out the Hounds of Baskerville room on a Saturday night. The booking process was super easy, and once we got there we started right on time. One thing to note though is that this is a 10 people room, and so we paired up with another group of six. This actually turned out to be quite fun, so don't worry about it being uncomfortable or anything! The room itself was great. The clues were challenging, but definitely not impossible. There was a small story plot as well, which I loved. In case you get stuck, the staff will send out clues in riddle forms. We had a lot of lucky guesses, and Richard walked us through again. I've now done three room escapes. 59:59 wasn't the best, but it certainly wasn't the worst. It was smack dab in the middle. Did the Hounds/Sherlock/Detective room for a large group (it can accommodate up to 10), and there was definitely enough things to keep everyone busy, even though it was a bit all over the place (spoiler alert: there was even a secondary room). The puzzles themselves were alright, but it was hard to find a logic for putting a lot of them together. Luckily, there was this big brother-esque TV screen in the corner that would give us clues based on what they heard us saying. Other than that, it was a fun time. Our party of 5 opted for the Masquerade, which was marketed as the hardest room they had available. We ended up clearing the room in about 30 minutes without needing hints, which was a stark contrast to rooms we've cleared with barely enough time even after asking for clues. We thoroughly enjoyed working together in the Hound adventure. It was a short family trip but this excursion made it a little more fun. We arrived 30 minutes early and was able to grab a bite at the local Panera. This location is in Korean Town (K-Town) so there are several cultural food options nearby. The walk from the train was 5 to 7 minutes, depending on how slow you walk. When we arrived on site we were offered water and an assortment of puzzles and brain games to get ready for the challenge ahead. We were given instructions about how things work for solving the adventure. There was also a plea to avoid damaging items that have no relation to the puzzle. After a last minute change to use the restroom, we entered and given a place to put our personal items. The room was very atmospheric and made us feel like we were in the time period of the story, including furniture and lighting. To know more, you have to go and try the Hound challenge. Our next visit to NY will have to include a different escape room change. This was great! read more

My sister and I stumbled upon the place on xmas day ( thank you,Yelp) and this was a very fun way to spend our hour! We were able to use a Yelp coupon for a 5% discount, so that was awesome. We spoke with Vivian and Richard on the phone and they talked us into doing a 630 show with 4 other folks - which made a lot of sense - don't think my sister and I would have had as much fun doing it by ourselves. Anyways, they have 3 different rooms; and they try to change these ever so often as our game master Rachel explained (she was awesome by the way). Each room has a different theme. Being a big Sherlock Holmes fan, I was psyched that we were going to do the hounds of Baskerville ( medium difficulty). The 3 little pigs is easy and A Christmas Carol was their hardest. The game itself was super fun - there are cameras and microphones in the room; which means the game master will communicate with you to provide clues through a monitor that she can type on. Both my sister and I were a little sad that the group with us was not as excited as we were - the 2 girls kind of just wanted to chit chats and the guys didn't really communicate.regardless, we were able to solve the thing with just 5-6 min to spare, and boy was that a good feeling! Keep in mind -you don't have to solve all the clues to get the key to the door - but keep your mind and eyes open for clues and how they fit together! Great job by their team, I think I am going to be back again next time to try a new room!! read more

This was my seventh escape room experience, and I went with a friend who was an escape room virgin. I wanted to take her during my visit to New York. There is a lot of competition with a ton of escape rooms in Manhattan alone, but this place had a 5% Yelp discount, plus it let us make a reservation online with only two people. My friend and I tried the Three Little Pigs room, the easiest room. It ended up being just the two of us, but we still managed to escape with about 50 seconds to spare. There is no limit to hints at 59:59, but you don't ask for them; basically, the game masters watching you will offer hints when they notice you struggling, by typing messages on the screen in the room (there is also a notification sound so you will be prompted to look up). This particular room had a lot of puzzles on paper, as well as a few unique things that I had not experienced in other escape games. Not my favorite room of all time, but a solid room and I had a good time. I will say that the employee who greeted us and was our primary game master (Rachel) was SUPER friendly, and made the experience that much better. She also walked us through every puzzle in the room as a recap at the conclusion of our game, which was a nice touch and something that I have not experienced elsewhere (usually, they just tell me what the remaining steps were if we didn't escape, or ask if we had any questions). read more

This was my fifth escape room. We had a reservation for 9:30pm on a Saturday. For once, I actually came early, so I got to play with some puzzles in the lobby. They were not strict on starting time anyway, which was fortunate since one of us was running late. We did the Hound of the Baskervilles room, obviously themed by the Sherlock Holmes story. Once again, they had stickers marking objects that had nothing to do with the escape, a bit more subtle this time though. The room was very lock heavy, mostly solving clues to get the right combos. Located in the middle of Koreatown, it is a great group activity after having a Korean BBQ dinner. The space itself looks very clean and simple. This was the second room escape I've been to. I just love these kind of mystery/detective games. So exciting and nerve-wracking and definitely brings people together. I got a phone call as we were arriving 2 minutes late but the girl that called was super nice about it and I believe she was the one that greeted us. She was our game master, perhaps? She was very sweet and welcoming. We did the Hound of the Baskervilles room. We were all working on different parts of the room which was a bit chaotic because one group that solved one puzzle didn't know how another group solved a different puzzle. Maybe we should have organized it better ourselves... We escaped with about 7 minutes to spare without using any hints. The game master watched us through a camera and she could hear everything we were saying (if we got a clue wrong, she would tell us it was wrong on the tv screen)... Which was super helpful but not as rewarding. Also kind of creepy that we were being spied on lol. After we solved it, we were able to ask questions about the game. We found out that not a lot of groups solve this room, so we were proud of ourselves for working so well together. They also took our group photo for their Facebook page. The concept was so fun that my friends and I went back to finish all other rooms in one day! We actually finished the second room (three little pigs) so quickly (under 30 minutes), that we got the last room for free. I'm honestly very glad that I chose to do this room first, because it got me a little hooked on escape rooms and after researching and experiencing different rooms, I would say that this is very much lacking in the technology department. Otherwise, the game masters were very friendly and gave appropriate clues. Some of the puzzles were really difficult and others were very straightforward. I would rank the rooms in the following order, from easy to difficult: three little pigs, hound of baskervilles, chamber of dreams. If it's your first time, I would definitely recommend this place. Great first Escape Room experience here. There are three rooms at this location, and we went with the Three Little Pigs Room. We chose the easiest level, as I was slightly nervous and didn't know what to expect. Located on the 6th floor of 38 W 32nd Street in Ktown, look for the building number, then take the elevator up. Coincidentally, another Escape Room is on the 15th floor of the building, so be sure to find the right one. It was only my friend and I, and apparently it's harder when there are just 2 people. But we managed to make it out of the room with only 50 seconds left on the clock! My friend who has been to more escape rooms thought this was a simple room with more than usual word puzzles. In case you get stuck, the game master watching your game through cameras will type hints on a screen for you. But they will make you struggle and wrack your brain a little bit before they help you move on. After this first experience I would recommend at least 4 people to play the game with. My friends and I did the Hounds (supposed Sherlock Holmes) room this summer for my friend's birthday. I've done a few other rooms around the city and comparing to those experiences. The room was below average. Don't want to give anything away here - but too many of the clues involved a combination lock. It just wasn't very creative (in my opinion). After we were done, the gentleman running the room didn't walk us through the room in the order we were supposed to solve, didn't offer to take a group photo. It was just odd. So I've been to many escape rooms, but this is the first one where the people running it were really invested and that made it so amazing. Here's what happened: My wife and I did an escape room on our honeymoon and we loved it. We've done a bunch since, but this one was for her birthday. I told Richard and Vivian it was her birthday and they actually integrated it into the room! It was so amazing to have one of the clues ask who the birthday girl was and have her name be the answer to the combination. My wife was so so so happy. It was absolutely amazing and made such a tremendous impact. In terms of the room: Everything is tastefully decorated and unlike other escape rooms, everything was in perfect condition. At some other rooms, you get hung up on something you think is a clue only to find out it's a broken floorboard. Not the case here. It's not overly decorated because the focus here is the puzzle itself. In terms of the puzzles: Most are very straightforward but still REALLY tricky. You use everything once, which is kind of nice, but also makes it a lot easier. When we finished a clue we just chucked it to the side and didn't have to worry about it again. I bet as time goes on they'll get more clever. Overall impression: we really really liked it and can't wait to try the other rooms! If you're thinking about going, just go! You'll love it! read more

I played all three rooms this past weekend. Had a ton of fun! They each offered something a little different. - Sherlock Holmes: I really liked the puzzles in this room. I read Holmes as a kid and watched all the Cumberbatch mini-series. So I got to appreciate the "Hound of Baskervilles" theme. Some friends that played with me hadn't read Holmes, but they really liked the puzzles too. There was this one puzzle where upon solving, everybody screamed and laughed (I won't provide any details here, lest I spoil your fun!). I also liked the vintage feel of the room. Very befitting. - Three Little Pigs: Compared to Holmes, this room has a more "funky" feel. It's brighter and more cartoon-ish. Some puzzles were really easy. Others were super-hard, requiring knowledge about pop culture, etc. So my friends with varying puzzle-solving skills all enjoyed it. This room also has a few interesting surprises. When we figured out these puzzles, we had an "aha" rush to the head. - Christmas Ghosts: this room has a dark theme, and a dark physical layout. I'd say the puzzles here were the hardest, compared to the other two rooms. The game masters provided hints so we were able to solve them before time ran out. All puzzles were related to the Charles Dickens classic. A few of them were really off-the-chart visually pleasing (ie, they were puzzles, but could have easily been a work of art). A few others really needed us to bend our minds to solve. And there was one puzzle that was simply crazy. Just crazy. We weren't able to solve it, but were still able to get the final lock combo through guesswork. Some people on our team were good with words. Others were good with numbers. They all got to contribute, so it was a good bonding experience. Overall, I thought the whole experience was quite, I'd say, "holistic." That is, no puzzles felt forced, and all the puzzles were quite well-pieced together. The decor, color, etc. all fit the themes quite nicely and added to the puzzle-solving experience. The staff told me that the themes and puzzles here get updated periodically. I really look forward to them opening the fourth room, so I can go back and play again! read more

We went to 59:59 escape room on a Saturday evening and decided to do the hound of baskervilles room. An absolute fun evening spent solving clues and playing Sherlock Holmes. We managed to lock ourselves out with 3.00mins remming. This is definitely a fun team building event that also helps people to mingle and solve things together and play detective for an hour. The puzzles are pretty hard but it really makes you think on your toes. On top of that the customer service is excellent as well. A must do to spruce things up in your life . This is a great place for team outings! I went to this place with my colleagues. We chose the Sherlock Holmes theme. I watched the TV series, so I was able to appreciate the puzzles even more, but you don't need any prior knowledge to solve the puzzles, so even people who has never heard of the story had plenty of fun. First time playing this kind of game, made me realize so many things are more than meets the eye. Atmosphere - Amazing, the room felt very congruent with the theme and made puzzles very realistic. Also from the moment we started everyone got really into it in terms of being alert, initiative, and thinking outside the box. Puzzles - Thought provoking puzzles as one would expect, with a good team you could expect to complete the room under an hour. I personally maybe solved 1-2 puzzles which felt like an okay accomplishment but I'm sure everyone's team will have one of those really smart few people that can really decipher cryptic clues like it's their job. Experience - Very generous and enthusiastic hosts which made way for a delightful time. We were given some flexibility in terms of when to start due to some friends being late. Overall, felt pretty much at home. My review is based on the Christmas Carol (Ghosts) room. The entire place is sleek and well-designed. Unlike some of the other escape the rooms, 59:59 is clean and very inviting. It is comfortable enough that I didn't mind being locked in there! The puzzles were thoughtfully and meticulously designed. Each clue built on the others, resulting in a tremendously satisfying solving sequence. The puzzles followed the theme of the room, which also helped if you were lucky guessers like my team. As mentioned above, I didn't fear reaching into a dark crevice and being poked by a rusty nail like I might be at some of the dingier escape the room locations. 59:59 fits an important niche in New York City--it's entertainment for all ages that doesn't revolve around eating or drinking. Plus, unlike a show, there is tremendous flexibility for you to visit on your own time. These qualities make it perfect for families, though it can bond any group. Also, it's location makes it prime for the eating and drinking. Celebrating with my escape team made me nostalgic for going for pizza with my soccer team growing up...not that my soccer team was ever locked in a room. read more

I went with a group of very smart people and we were all impressed by how challenging this really was. We did manage to escape but it took a team effort and a lot of brain power. First and foremost, we didn't escape, but yes we did have a great time. The room itself is not as big as I expected, yet once we started to solve those puzzles, things started to get interesting. Every bit of it are related to the theme of that room (in my case would be the "Christmas Ghosts") and clearly you can see the designer has putted a lot of effort in it. This might not be the the "fancy" Room Escape experience some would expect, but it has to be my personal favorite because of it's challenging and entertaining puzzles. we organized a reunion for alums recently, and we picked 5959 room escape as our activity after lunch. We found it pretty fun. The location is great - right in the center of Korean town, which is perfect for people who just want to have some fun after food but don't want to go too far. We played three pigs and found it very entertaining. As the clock was ticking, we were quite nervous, looking for clues everywhere to solve the puzzles. The story line was clear, and the hints were just enough to guide us towards the right direction without making the game too easy.
