We came here for a friend's birthday and booked the place out. We were able to do the laboratory and penitentiary rooms and had a ton of fun. The guys working here are very friendly and entertaining, and seem to care a lot about guests having fun and asked us for feedback near the end as well. Parts of the rooms do seem a bit dated, and there were certain puzzles that did not make much sense to us even after we solved them. That being said, I think overall they were well thought out and enjoyable to work through. I'm still not sure which room I enjoyed more. I think the laboratory had more interesting puzzles to me, and the penitentiary had a lot of moving parts/puzzles that made it a bit confusing in terms of chronology, but that's a part of the fun of a lot of escape rooms. I would come again if I'm in the area, and look forward to future improvements under the new ownership. read more

I usually do an escape room in every city that I visit. While I have been to NY before, I finally decided to do an escape room here. The escape rooms here at OMEscape are very fun, challenging, and a unique activity for a night out. You get 70 minutes to try to escape, and are able to ask for hints if you get stuck. This is one of the more intricate escape rooms that I have done, with unique puzzles that you probably have never seen before. Matt is very funny and plays a good character, and definitely makes the escape room experience way more enjoyable. The price is very worth it as you get 70 mins to escape, while most other rooms I've seen only give 60. There are multiple different rooms to try, so I know if I come back I will get an entirely new experience. Looking forward to coming back here when in NYC! read more

The only qualm about this place is that some of the puzzles we had trouble with or were stuck on for a while were due to mechanical issues. I came here to try Room X with a group of 6. We had an 11am reservation. They told us to arrive fifteen minutes early and we were right on time but the location wasn't even open and they didn't let us in until just before our start time. The building itself is a bit run down. They have a bunch of hand written, paper signs in the front window. They only have a single stall bathroom, which wasn't very clean. The room itself was challenging. Depending on the size of your party, you are initially split into two rooms and have to solve the first half of puzzles separately before being brought together again. Note that you should have some comfort crawling or stooping close to the ground in order to fully participate in this room. Overall, I enjoyed the experience. The puzzles were mostly spatial recognition, logic, and visual patterns. Those who are fast readers under pressure will have an edge. read more

Did the arcane magic room with 1 friend and on Memorial Day they were severely understaffed it seemed one person was doing 3 different rooms at once and manning the front desk, the room was not reset properly there were some missing puzzle pieces and some aspects of the game were easily guessed at. I've been to escape room in Baltimore and other country but OMEscape was the best so far. We picked the Time travel one and we had so much fun, the technology inside the room made it more exciting. Henry was very patient and helpful in giving us clues (when needed). I went with the other 4 people who was first timer and they loved it. Now that I've done 23 different escape rooms, I feel like I can write a fairly thorough review that would be helpful for readers deciding where to venture on their first or 50th room. When researching more rooms to tackle, I found that the reviews didn't always tell me the information I needed the most to decide where next to go (without giving up spoilers of course). In particular, I wanted to know how many players the reviewer actually had for which room. It was also good to read about the players' experience level, quality of the technology and how cohesive/immersive the theme was, and whether the puzzles were complex and diverse (for example, I had done an escape room that was almost 90% manual combo locks, which was disappointing). So, for my own reviews, I will use a consistent format providing the level of detail that I would hope for, with the goal that these will be helpful to escape room enthusiasts like myself. And please drop me a PM if you have any room suggestions for me - I'm all ears! ROOM: Laboratory of Biohazards # OF PARTICIPANTS AND LEVEL OF EXPERIENCE: This was our 23rd room. We had a group of 6 people: my friends and their neighbor and neighbor's friend had done a handful previously. DIVERSITY OF PUZZLES: There was a good variety of puzzles in this room, but they were all pretty basic. They tout their tech, which is true (there is some good tech), but the puzzles were somewhat lackluster. TRACKING TIME: Uniquely, you get 70 minutes at Omescape. There was no clock or timer in the room. You had to keep track on your own, or ask the host via walkie talkie how much time was left. IMMERSION/THEME: So the story is that an evil genius has developed a virus that they are releasing into the city's water system, and you have 70 minutes to figure out the antidote. The theme generally was consistent with the puzzles/tasks offered. They did a pretty good job with the immersion/room/set. HOST PARTICIPATION: The hint system was via walkie talkie. Our host clearly watched our progress and gave us pertinent hints. SUCCESS: We succeeded with 9 minutes remaining. Having 6 people, especially given how basic the puzzles were (which also were mostly linear), was too many for this room. I think 4 people would be a better group size, even if you don't have much experience. read more

This was my 15th escape room and this was probably one of the bottom 5 ones I have done so far in terms of story, build quality, and overall. We did Time X and it really bothered me that the rooms did not have floor to ceiling walls so you could hear everything like other people and the other teams talking. Totally took out any immersion whatsoever. Also, I think the gamemasters did not actually have any cameras so when we would ask for clues, they would just say what part are you on? We were getting our last clue from the gamemaster after we had already gotten out of the room, pretty lame lol. One of the frame props came out of the wall and poked me with a rusty nail! ESCAPETHEROOMers visited OMEscape location back in August 2018. This place was easy to find since the entrance is a storefront on the street. Since they have approximately 3,900 sq ft, it feels very spacious inside. The waiting area is quite spacious. If you check in online, you can get a free soda or water while waiting. The special thing about this escape room is that they give you 70 minutes instead of the normal 60 minutes which could come in handy. We had a group of 5 ppl attempting the "Room X" and ended up not needing the extra 10min. We were very excited to try the room based on the high tech videos and the it was the first time we experienced laser sensors in a room. The concept of the room was cool but we thought maybe there could be a bit more puzzles especially if the room can accommodate more people and given the 70 min room. Teamwork is eminent in this game, as your group will start off divided into two. We got a chance to take a peek at "The Penitentiary" room which is what we originally booked for, and it seems more immersive and spacious. This was an interesting one. Hubby and I signed up for the time travel room. What we didn't know was that this puzzle actually consisted of three rooms. Lucky we got paired with another couple because they took the "WWII" room and we took the "Medieval Times" room. The premise is that we're time travelers and need to solve puzzles in our collective rooms before being able to gain access to the last room where we could work together as a team. Because we were given a walkie-talkie to communicate with the other team, we actually wasted quite a bit of time because we thought we had to share information to solve the first two rooms, when in fact both rooms can be solved relatively individually until you gain entry to the next 'phase' of the puzzle. So, just something to keep in mind. The rooms were pretty hard and although we had a flashlight it may be hard to see for people who don't see well in the dark (like me). The rooms were well-decorated and the premise of needing to work with another team is interesting, although it makes me wonder what would have happened if it was just the two of us - I don't think being split up and needing to solve puzzles on my own would have been very fun at all. There were some cool flashy tech especially in the last room. We did manage to get out as a team of 4 with about 20 minutes left and having used around 3 hints. I would say that this is a pretty fun escape room, and it sounds like from other reviews that the quality of their rooms vary. I still think the Chinatown escape room reigns supreme, but I wouldn't mind coming back here again. Needed to check-in and post a quick pic on Yelp/Insta for a free bottle of water. I came here with coworkers for a team-building activity. For weekdays it's $33 a person and they give you 70min to finish. We chose the most difficult one, the Penitentiary, rated 4 stars (with the easiest one being 2 stars). We had 9 people, and started off by being split into 3 groups, with each group in a prison cell that you have to escape from. That's just the beginning - there's much more after that! They hold your phones during the entire activity so you can't take pictures or google anything haha. This was my first escape room experience. Being someone who loves puzzles, I was honestly worried that the escape room would be too easy, but this one wasn't disappointing at all! Having to depend on your fellow teammates is a nice twist and there are plenty of puzzles to figure out. I don't think I'd try one of the easier ones, but if there was another 4 or more starred difficulty one, I'd be happy to try it! read more

This is a well-thought, smartly designed, and better organized escape room type of game, and also the most logical and interesting game I have ever played. People were separately put into different rooms and would have to collaboratively solve the puzzle in order to get out of the room. Hints were provided on a limited basis, so lots of work would have to rely on teamwork. As a group of people who met each other the first time we played this game, I felt well about how we have tackled the puzzle and eventually got out of the room.
