Also look at reviews under Expert Handyman - same address but different name?? Do not use them for door replacement. I hired them because I had a good experience when they installed a pull down entry to my attic. However, bottom line is there is minimal communication with you or internally. I had to do all of the quality control - called them back because of poor caulking on all three doors. Then, two separate times the technician told the office admin they were done and I found significant quality issues they should have caught. Each time, the office only pursued final payment - never asked if the issues had been corrected or if I was satisfied. Their priority is payment, not quality. I still needed to clean paint and caulk out of my kitchen sink and off the counter, pick up garbage outside and inside (nails and screws in the living room), and still have to figure out how to get caulk off the brick front porch. This business is not reliable as the workmen not only did not complete the work on the first go but they did not advise or consult me on repairs I had asked them to complete. When I approached them about it I got a bs answer of oh the men consulted us. If you don't consult directly with me that isn't consulting!! Absolutely horrible company. Stay away at all costs. We trusted them to remodel our home and were rewarded with missed deadline after missed deadline until what was supposed to be a 4-6 month project dragged out to be 18 months and still not finished. When they demanded that we pay the final payment early despite them not being anywhere close to finishing our project, they left the project and we had a house that was unlivable. Emran Kabir was the head contractor for our project and I couldn't imagine working with a more unpleasant, incompetent, and vindictive human being. When I asked the other owner of the company, Hugh Sutherland, to help with the project since it had so many issues, he said that he would look into it immediately, meaning absolutely nothing changed. We had to get another company to not only finish our project, but also fix several major problems involving everything from plumbing to electrical, which cost an exorbitant amount of money. Let me start by repeating other reviews; the workmen do a fine job. That being said, the time management of this job was atrocious and I would not recommend this company. There were more competitive bids but I wanted to try this company to be our handyman service. I had work done in a rental unit, where an electrician cut through eleven pieces of drywall/plaster. The goal was to have the room fixed and painted before the tenant returned from vacation. The company owner and a supervisor came out to bid on the job. They turned the bid around in hours and said the job needed to be booked right away to guarantee the tight time frame. The first day, the worker arrived at 8:15, looks around and say he needed to go for supplies. I thought he was going back to his truck, but he left to go buy them. He returned at 10 and started working. About 2 pm, I asked him how he was going to get the painting all done and he says, "I will need to come back." I called the office to ask if I needed to block a second day right away and the woman on the phone says, "I guess so." The painter arrived on day two at 8:30. The room is 12'x9' and needed the ceiling, trim and walls paint. It took twelve hours! At 5 pm, when he indicated that he had several more hours to go, I called the office and the person indicated the worker was very thorough. He said I should also be glad the job was quoted as a flat price and not by the hour since it was more than they expected. I asked why they didn't put another painter on this and he said the holidays left them shorthanded. The only offer was to come back a third day so I stayed until 8 pm On top of that, they charged me $325 for supplies even though the owner estimated supplies would cost $111. The painter bought a gallon for the trim, a gallon of stain blocker and a two-gallon container of ceiling paint. (Reminder, this room is 12'x9'.) Since I was buying my own color for the walls, so they told me to buy two gallons. However, the painter showed up with three gallons for the walls, even though the estimate said I was buying my own. (Three gallons for one room and I had to pay for that.) When I called to have the cost of the supplies adjusted, they reduced the cost by $100 AND then asked to pick up the three unused gallons and the 2-gallon container of ceiling paint. And for the record, the ceiling peeled two days after they finished. I wrote the supervisor who did the bid and never heard back. A handyman service is about creating a trusted relationship. There are plenty of handyman companies to choose from. I would pass on this one.. read more

Terrible attitude, Unhelpful. Rude. Not worth it. Heard some terrible things about the support staff but decided to give it a shot as we were in a bind. Called for a quote and was told by the unhelpful receptionist Page she'd need to have someone contact me for that. I said I just needed ballpark after giving the dimensions and she was still dumbfounded, said she didn't know. Why have a receptionist if she can't give you the simplest info? Might as well have the actual person who can given approximations pick up the phone! Seems like her position is utterly useless. Called back a while later to see if I can speak with someone else and she picked up again unfortunately. I tried giving her even MORE information (size, exactly the paint we wanted, etc) and she was still just as unhelpful as the first time. Literally can't tell if she's just new and needs guidance or if she's just useless. And when I told her she was not being helpful, she just kept repeating herself...that she'd need to have someone reach out to me. I even heard her exhale a few times as if I was annoying her. Terrible customer service. Someone needs to teach her a thing or two or perhaps hire someone else. She needs to check her attitude at the door. Called Alexandria Home Improvement an hour later and they were able to give be a general ballpark and fit me into their schedule in September. I feel misled by the positive reviews of this company. My personal experience with them is quite unpleasant. The initial phone conversation went well but it all changed on the day where I was supposed to get serviced. The handyman arrived late and when he got there, he told me it would take two people to get the job done, and we'd have to reschedule. I was told someone else would join him later that day but he wasn't aware of that. Despite all the confusion and lack of communication between the employees, I agreed to reschedule for the following week. While we were on the phone, the customer service rep informed me that it would have to be done the week after (2 weeks or more from the time we agreed on). I think this company is inconsistent, misleading and unprofessional. To be fair I can't attest for their work since I did not have the door installed, but the customer service was substandard, unprofessional and very misleading. The price I got quoted for also kept changing. Think about it twice before you waste time and shop around. read more

This company undermines the value of service, honesty, respect, and clearly lacks any modicum of business ethics. When I wrote in for an honest quote and job - needing a medium sized mirror hung and mounted on my drywall - Mauricio asked erroneous and irrelevant questions to prod and continue a presumably running joke that this would estimate at about $1,000. The mirror is an embellished antique passed down to me and I did not want to take a chance either stripping my walls or it collapsing and subsequently injuring my toddler and dog. Their callous response in a jeering tone was without reproach and I will be sure to inform all of my friends, neighbors, and family of their response to my VALID inquiry of service. Do not do business with a company who finds your job too small and goes out of their way to call you and mock you on the phone with such a response and to top it off - after mentioning the one thousand dollar estimate, Mauricio proceeded to ask if I'd like a detailed workup. No, thank you I am not the butt of your joke. If this company is too busy to be bothered by a handyman related request, advertise accordingly. Why dignify my request in the first place if your company is so very much above it, Mauricio? Cannot recommend as of this date. Review in progress as work is not yet completed and I am hoping they come back to fix the items, but I am getting major pushback. Short version is that they installed bathroom tile, vanity, flooring etc poorly/incorrectly, they damaged items in my house while working here, lost some of the materials I provided them for installation, and then caused water damage by failing to solder a water pipe to the shower incorrectly. This would all be workable, but the customer service is not responsive and now I am having to re-debate with them each issue. I will post in detail after this is resolved. read more

We were offered a bait and switch for a quote on home projects. I requested quotes for several jobs around my house. I clearly explained we would not do the projects all at once. (I had a long conversation with the owner about budgeting over two years to take care of all the jobs.) Expert Handyman sent quotes, but when I scheduled only some of the projects, the company informed me of the price increases and material increases since I "wasn't doing the whole project." The prices were 30% higher than before. I canceled immediately. I should've read the Yelp reviews for 2018 before calling them. read more

And, even worse, because their administrative staff is so poor, when they failed the show the second time, and I contacted them (no one contacted me), they blamed me instead of owning up to their mistake. Another review for another outstanding job! After doing a small job with House Doctors (now called Expert Handyman), we decided to remodel both of our bathrooms with them, and were EXTREMELY pleased! As always, the business side of their house is responsive, communicates clearly, and follows up to make sure you are happy with the job. The Handyman side of the house-- and in our case, James-- was amazing. A talented renaissance man, James was able to do plumbing, electrical, tiles, installing toilets and sinks, drywalling, base boards, painting-- literally, everything needed to update our bathroom! James did a great job, and was very flexible and adept at dealing with unexpected challenges (as they often do in an old row house). In short-- another great job. Would HIGHLY recommend. read more

I think that this company is probably fine for small jobs. I hired them to redo floors, remove a wall, repair a staircase, and move some electrical components. They were very responsive during the estimate and at the beginning of the job, but as the project started to derail I felt that my project became less and less of a priority. They seemed concerned about doing a good job, but did seem very proactive in making sure that all aspects were being addressed. The job lacked strong project management and the project was plagued with half-finished work and projects done out of logical order. My project ended up taking twice as long as estimated and I didn't have power in my master bedroom for 6 days during the project. Angel, the flooring contractor was really good and was genuinely interested in making sure that work was very customer service oriented. read more

"This was my first experience using the services of Expert Handyman, but it won't be my last. I had a deck that I'd been advised earlier probably needed complete replacing, even though the foundation was still sound, and the primary problems consisted of several rotted planks and warped hand boards and steps (plus, worn hand rails and many nails which were popping out all over the deck). I requested estimates from several handy man/ deck repair services through Yelp, after reading a number of reviews. Expert Handyman were the first of the four to respond to me, and I sent several photos and described the problems with the deck. I had a detailed estimate sent to me by them the very same day, and was advised that the project -- power-wash, replacement of planks and steps, repair of warping boards, and painting/sealing, etc., could be completed before the week's end. In addition to providing the most competitive bid, they were the only ones who could provide the services within a day or two of my request (and this being October, I had to have the job done now, before the cold temperatures precluded being able to paint and seal the deck, after the repairs had been made). The two-man team arrived right on time, and completed all the structural repairs and power washing the same day. The next day, final prepping and the first coat of paint was applied. And the following morning, the final tweaking, additional paint/sealing, and complete clean up were accomplished, resulting in a deck that literally looks and feels brand new. This project has saved me thousands of dollars, and my deck will now not need replacing for many years. Dealing with the personnel at Expert Handyman -- Amanda, Brennan, Zack, and the other workers was a delight from start to finish. (I even got a call back on a holiday, after leaving a voice message with some additional questions.) I'm attaching photos of the before and after condition and appearance of my deck. The job was first rate in every way, and I cannot recommend Expert Handyman services any more strongly. I'm through with the big box franchises for my home improvement products, and will be returning to Expert Handyman for several other overdue home improvement projects on my list in the very near future! I had a very bad experience with these people. They gave me an estimate for some very basic work--installing some wood framing in an unfinished basement so we could install some shelving and dry wall. They did the work and charged me more than twice the estimate. It's not as if they ran into unexpected conditions, like they removed drywall and found something that they didn't anticipate. The work to be done was open and obvious. They either just mis-estimated the job or it was bait and switch. As was the case with another reviewer, they also offered me money if I would stay off of social media, so you have to wonder whether there are more people out there who have had problems with them who are just not reporting it. My advice: avoid these people like a plague. BTW - this is the first time I have ever gone on social media to give a contractor a bad review, and I have used dozens over the years.
