I found Ken on the internet. He repaired / rehabbed a hundred year old Waterbury Kitchen Clock that I recently inherited. It would not keep time, and the chime was off / not lined up with the correct hour. This clock had been in my parents' house, and the sound of that clock ticking (it has a pendulum and makes the classic "tick-tock" sound) had been sort of the heartbeat of the home. Being able to hear that, and to see it work correctly, and to hear the chime on the hour, does me good. He fixed it, gave me a tutorial on how and when to wind it, and how to adjust it if need be. The price was fair - not cheap - and I had no issue with it. Ken is friendly and easy to deal with. His business is appropriately named - he really is an expert. I have been visiting this watchmaker for a few years. I think of him when I need something small, like a battery replaced or a bracelet repaired, because they will take care of it on the spot in a few minutes and charge extremely fairly. (His competitor Andrew, just a few minutes north on Jones from him, will tell you to come back in an hour, or even keep watches for a day, for something as simple as a strap change.) I've taken a few watches to him where he is up front about their ability to be repaired (or not), which I appreciate - I very much value his honesty above being told something else, and having a problem made worse, or wasting my time. I had given this place a good rating in the past. I took my recently purchased Rolex to this man for a bracelet change. After a few minutes he came out to my truck and told me I had a fake I asked how, and Why. He said that he could tell by looking at it. I asked him to open it up and verify the inner workings. He exclaimed that he was an expert and could just see it!! I asked why he could not change the baracelet and I was told that because it was a fake Rolex, that his tools would not work on this watch-what a joke. I took it to a jeweler that sells Rolex and he confirmed that it is Genuine!!! He listen to the movement. This other jeweler told me that a Rolex makes a distinct ticket sound that any EXPERT watch person would know! What a Fuking idiot this guy is! Never use this man!!! read more

I used this place to do complete overhauls on a cuckoo clock, and a grandfather clock. I picked up the grandfather clock 3-4 weeks ago. There was a small clear box of probably 10-15 pendulum suspension springs in the bottom of the clock when I dropped it off. Recently I remembered the parts and checked the clock for them inside the clock. They were not there. I called the shop and they denied having them. Both my wife and I remember leaving them when we dropped off the clock. I thought I had found a good clock shop. I guess not. I will no longer take my business here and will have to look elsewhere in the future. I was told they would call me if they find them. I'm doubtful I will hear anything but if so, I will update and change this review. read more

Took my watch to Expert Watch & Clock to have it's battery replaced for $10. After Ken Nguyen's wife, or assistant, replaced the battery, the watch was returned to the counter to notify me that the 12 is detached now. I was given the option to remove the 12 for free or pay $15 to have the XII replaced. It was removed for free by the assistant. The watch was returned after the assistant was finished. Once outside the shop, the watch stem is now silver with a black tip when my original piece was gold - the body & stem colors were gold! I went back in and confronted him over the difference. He yelled that he had spent too much time on my watch for free and screamed for me to leave his store. I do believe that his wife/assistant broke my stem but whether she broke the 12 off the face when opening the back of the watch ... I can not answer that part, but the two of them would not tell the truth about my gold stem. I will never do business with them from this point forward. read more
