He mentioned that he no longer sells clocks because he stays too busy and doesn't have time to deliver, but the shop still has some really neat clocks and artifacts throughout the store along with paintings and photos of him and his family everywhere. It gives the place a warm, unique feel that you do not find often anymore. I came in to have links removed from my new watch and to get batteries replaced in two other watches. Even though it was pouring rain that Saturday, Van kindly offered for us to stay and wait out the storm. That level of hospitality really stood out to me for an all-around great experience. He definitely has my business for life.

I had to just wait and come by when I thought they may have been done with the watches because they would not call me when they were ready. I went there thinking an old watch repair place could fix an old watch. Apparently, they cannot. After spending a few hundred dollars there I am looking for another repair shop for both watches. The clock's movement hadn't been serviced in over 116 years according to the 2 November 1910 inscription on the pendulum bracket by its previous servicer. Also, the clock's marble base was missing most of the Roman numerals that were formerly attached to it to serve as the dial. Bernie Maya of Chappell Jordan completely cleaned and serviced the movement and bell such that the clock mechanism now looks brand new and the clock runs like new. Bernie also polished the marble and installed new Roman numerals for the dial on the clocks marble block. What a magnificent job ! Chappell Jordan hit it out of the ballpark again !

Between my grandfather and I, we had six watches needing repair. Did my research and wanted to support small business. Found this shop. Called to ensure he would be open if the current pandemic situation. Answers the phone with simply "hello". Is this the Watchmaker Specialist?", I ask. "Yes." I then asked if he would be open the next day to drop by with the watches for repair. "No problem. I will be here" he responds. "Excellent. See you tomorrow." Today (the next day), I picked up my 89-year old grandfather to drive 25 miles to his shop. Arrive to the office building, then had to had to show my driver's license to a security guard. It has to be shown to a video camera where they take a picture of your license. Was not crazy about that given identity fraud. But had to do it to gain access to the building. Made our way up to the 7th floor, found the suite, only to find the office locked. Sign on door says call the number. So I do this and again, simply "hello". I let him know we were standing at the front door. "Who's this?", he asks. "A customer" i replied. "Oh, I am not there. I went to get some dinner. Can you wait 30 or 45 minutes?"........ So he wanted my grandfather and I to simply hang out and wait for him. Not very good customer service especially after I called beforehand to verify it was good to come down at that time. Which it was. But he left us in the lurch. We went someplace else. Was not a goid customer service experience.

It took 4 months for them to realize they could not properly service a watch I brought in and made no effort to reach out and notify me that was the case. Upon retrieving the watch they could not service, I was given the watch back with the caseback not affixed. Please do not bring your watches here. Go somewhere that treats customers with even just a modicum of decency. I brought in a friend's watch and was initially told it needed a routine servicing, which would take 6-8 weeks. I heard nothing for nearly 3 months and had to call back for an update, being told it would take "approximately 2 more weeks" and that they would call me back with an update. A month later with no contact, I had to call back AGAIN for an update. This time, I was told they were having issues sourcing a part and would call me back the next day for an update. Unsurprisingly, there was no call back and I had to call back YET AGAIN for an update just to be told the part could not be sourced and they could not properly service the watch. I'm beginning to think if I did not repeatedly call back to push them for updates, they would have never reached out and would have ultimately sold the watch, as the signs in their shop indicate that would be the case. Horrendous business practices.

I had to take a nail file to it in order to buff it off as it was too uncomfortable to wear. The work is holding up so I am happy with that, I just think if the time was spent to polish the earring, why Wasnt the site of the re-attachment also cleaned up?
