I loved my watch so much that when it started having trouble a few years ago, I wanted to buy another. I couldn't find one new but did find a used one. With my favorite watch finally dead, I took the new used one to Watch Hospital for a battery and size adjustment. There were no customers in sight and about 5 people working behind the counter. It was a clean store, which with the use of the mirrors, appeared to be nearly as large as an airplane hangar. I explained the above to the woman who wasn't unpleasant, but had the personality of a box of hair. I was asked if I wanted it sealed for water proofing. Huh? I asked. It's just $75, she said. Um, no, just a new battery. And I would like to have a few links taken out as this is too large on me. She measured my wrist, wrote some things down, asked for all my contact information. I thought this was odd for just a battery and links removed, but OK. It is a hospital, after all. Finally, I was told it would be $16 for the battery and $17 for the adjustment. Oh, and I'd have to return to pick it up the following day. In my 45 years of wearing a watch, I have never in my life had a battery replacement or links removed that didn't take at most 15 minutes and cost no more than a ten spot. When I used to have it done at the local mall, there wasn't even time to grab a pretzel before the watch was ready. And I used to have a collection of over two dozen watches, so I have had a few new batteries and adjustments over the years. I took my watch and thanked the woman who never smiled or asked how I was doing, and stated that was too much money for such a simple task, which should have been done while I waited. She didn't bother to try to win my business over at all. Just stood there as I walked out. Fortunately, I found a place that A: replaced my battery free of charge and B: adjusted the watch, asking for $8 for the service. They didn't try to up sell a useless $75 action or ask me to return the following day. And they gained a lifetime customer. The epic fail by Watch Hospital was a blessing in disguise for me to take my business where I felt like a human being, not just the ambulance service bringing in a patient to see the doctor, who may get around to it in the morning. They try telling me that acid from battery caused the damage. When it was still working when I dropped it off. They suggested having watch smith check it out. Why it worked when I took it. The lady try telling that they really work Rolex. REALLY I told her. So beware if you are not taking a Rolex for service they could care less how they handle your watch. I am a watch and clock collector with many years experience buying pieces that need repair. I am capable of installing a new band and batteries on occasion. Since 2008 when I moved into the neighborhood, the folks at the Watch Hospital have repaired things for me that required special expertise and tools. The turnaround time for estimates and repairs has always been reasonable. The prices have always been fair. I always feel better off with my watch repair than the amount that was paid. I have started using Yelp more often to find telephone numbers and noticed the reviews. The Watch Hospital deserves my highest recommendation. To the one person who wrote about a poor experience: I can only imagine that the Dr. was in the middle of a frustrating repair that was absorbing his concentration. He is a kind and caring guy who does his best to satisfy. We all have moments we would change if we could. When my mind reading skills are perfect, I remember that I am human too. This is a decent establishment with friendly customer service, however maybe not the ideal service for all. Pros: *Excellent customer service *The staff are friendly, informative and polite. Even the primary accredited watchmaker was very friendly and transparent. *The environment of the shop appears professional and organized. Cons: *Was quoted $850 for a service overhaul of my Omega Automatic Speedmaster 1151 movement. This is more than Omega has charged and with half the warranty. *Front desk staff could be more educated about watches. I witnessed the front desk personal attempting to reset my chronograph as if it were a quartz movement, I repeatedly told her that it would not work as it's an automatic movement. She said "oh I know, this just works sometimes." Indicating that she had no idea what she was talking about and potentially causing further damage to one of my favorite watches. *Turn around time. It takes them 1 week to give you an estimate, and an additional 5 days simply to adjust the hands on a watch. That's nearly two weeks for a very simple and quick adjustment. All in all, it's a nice establishment and I do like to support small business, but ultimately I'm a consumer and I'll do what's right for my wallet, if I'm being offered a service with less features and benefits than Omega, for more money...that's a no brainer. I understand that businesses need money to run, but you have to work on your price strategy to remain more competitive. They may have lost out on $500-600 (my top price point for this service) from me simply because they quoted more than Omega. read more

I took a Maratac Pilot automatic watch in to be lubricated and adjusted as it was running fast. After about a week they called and quoted me $300 as they said I needed to replace the entire movement. The watch only cost $250 so I picked it up. I went on YouTube to see what I could learn and did the adjustment myself in about 10 seconds and now it is keeping perfect time. I priced the movement and it is $60 to purchase a new movement for this watch. I have now learned how to replace a crystal, adjust the timing, and clean/lubricate my automatics watches so that's a plus. I would say the employees were very nice and professional. ABSOLUTETLY AVOID THIS PLACE!!! I took two Seiko Kinetic watches in to have the capacitors (batteries) replaced. They quoted a price of $78 each and gave me two tickets showing the price of $78. There was no mention that the price might change. Three weeks later they called and said the price was now $245 each, claiming that they had to do a complete overhaul on each for "corrosion". I knew that the watches were clean because they had never been near water nor any kind of unhealthy environment. One of the watches had a complete renewal at the Seiko facility in N J only about two years ago. Needing a watch, I told them to do nothing to one watch and to proceed with the needed work on the other. I was deliberately led to believe that my total cost would be $245 and on that basis I decided to go ahead. When they finally completed the job at almost six weeks, and I went in to pick it up, the price is now $265 "including tax". They knew all along that I probably would not have agreed to pay $265 for a watch repair so they got the price up in steps, the last being on the day I picked it up. They REFUSED to give me a detail breakdown of how the jacked--up price was calculated. Just "that's it for what we did." There is no doubt that they practice deception in pricing. read more

Stopped by the watch hospital a few days ago with an antique watch needing a replacement crystal (or so I thought) and a band extender. The girl behind the counter was nice enough in trying to help, but the gentleman that does the repairs was very rude. I had a series of questions I would have liked to have asked him, however even though he saw me standing there conversing with the young lady- she acted as messenger walking back & forth because he refused to take a few minutes to come speak to me directly. Never even so much as made eye contact with me. He acted annoyed when he stopped what he was doing to take a look at my watch & issue I had, then just shook his head seemingly disinterested- telling her there was 'nothing they could do' without leaving it there for an estimate that may take a week to get back. I was very unimpressed with the place & didn't feel the least bit welcomed into the environment enough leave an antique diamonds & gold watch behind. I was told the crystal I had brought them, wouldn't fit....and it does. I actually have since installed it myself after speaking with another watch repairmen who said that it would fit. I was also told that because the band of the watch is 14k gold...that I *had to have a custom extender link made for it, when I specifically stated from the beginning that it didn't have to be gold.... stainless would be perfectly fine with me. Just seemed a little curious as to why I would *have* to have one made of gold. Anyway- less than impressed is an understatement & it's unfortunate bc not only have they lost my business, but I will not recommend them either. read more

They quoted me a price over the phone ahead of time ($10 per watch), which might seem high but I found it to be reasonable for what I got. I dropped the watches off and came back two hours later, so that they could be precise and not feel rushed. They took their time in measuring out each additional hole so that it didn't look like they had been punched after market, and matched the size as well. I needed a battery for a Seiko watch. For years I have paid $5 to have the battery replaced. However I was not anywhere close to the shop that has served me for years. Needing a battery and being in a hurry I dropped into the Watch Hospital on 1960. First, the lady at the front counter was clearly having an off day and was quite short with me. She informed me the battery was $19.95 installed! I about fell over. But being in a hurry, I paid it. Then she tried to upsell me on a "manufacturer recommends this watch be sealed - Only $90!!! That is nearly half the cost of the watch, and has never been recommended in the 20 years I have owned the watch. I purchased a used Omega Seamaster from an online watch retailer, and wanted to bring it in to have its authenticity verified, a pressure test completed, and a new bezel click spring installed as the one in the watch was quite worn. These guys know what they are doing. Completely went over my watch with a fine tooth comb and pressured tested it free of charge. I was very impressed. They were also kind enough to let me know the version of the cal 2500 movement in the watch, because some of the older versions you can no longer get parts for. They ordered the bezel click spring for me and will install it for a very reasonable price. As a recent example I brought two watches to them for maintenance, one rather expensive and the other not so. They performed repair on one and maintenance on the other but about 11 months into their 1 year warranty they both failed for different reasons.
