Sierra Touring Company to go ATV riding! We chose a 3 hour ATV tour, and had a blast! Beautiful views, terrain and an all around good time! Whether you're an experienced rider, or never been on an ATV before - they work with you and you will have a great time! The ATVs are well maintained and have enough power to have a blast, even while climbing up the mountain! They also can do team building and corporate events! So whether you have 5 or 50 people, they can accommodate your group! If there's enough snow, they can also do snowmobiling! I highly recommend them and especially Scott as a guide! This was an absolute blast! My 15 year old son and I took the two hour ATV tour with the trap shooting. We're both familiar with shooting shotguns and trap but my son was new to the ATV. Cassie, our guide, did an amazing job making sure my son was comfortable and she maintained a speed suitable for him until he gain more confidence. Safety and customer comfort were on the top of her list! The property is absolutely beautiful. Cassie stopped at several spots to point out wildlife tracks or other items of interest. When we got to the trap range, most of the equipment was set up and we spent some time blasting clays. Then back on the atvs for more riding. Time flew by and before you know it, we're pulling back into the lodge area to say our goodbyes. First time at this awesome ranch. We came up for a few days on 4th of July. We booked an AtV tour on Friday July 5th and we happen to be the only group. It was just our small family of 3. Grant the young man who took us on our two hour AtV adventure was a great guide. He stopped at different areas of the ranch to give us a little history. At the half way point we stopped at a cute little set up with water and snacks. Also a chance for my wife to catch up she wasn't as fast as my son and I who shared one ATV. Our 7 year old was too young to drive one of the big AtVs. He was a bit bummed about that. So when we returned to home base Ken the owner had a small AtV ready for my son to ride. He was super thrilled. They even gave him a surprise parting gift! Such a fun family experience. Will def bring friends and fam to check this place out. read more

We had a fantastic day here! My husband and I did the two-hour ATV tour along with about 30 of my co-workers. All of the staff we encountered were so friendly, welcoming, and helpful. The ride was a long one, and even with our large group, they made sure everyone was accounted for at all times and no one got lost or mistakenly detoured. The terrain was perfect, with just enough turns, small hills and whoop-tee-doos along the way! The scenery was awesome. Definitely plan your clothing accordingly as you WILL get very dirty, but that just adds to the fun. They provide you with all the gear you'll need, but you can bring your own riding gear if you wish. Husband and I are definitely interested in returning sometime on our own to do the snowmobiles. read more

We thought the Kauai ATV trip was fab, and it was, but this beats it hands down. Ken & Kathy Smith are committed to giving you the best tour possible, geared towards what you want. They're basically in the middle of nowhere on their huge ranch. You have a choice of an 8am or 1pm tour. We chose the 8am tour since it's cooler earlier in the day. No other tours were booked that day so we got a chance to know Ken & Kathy better than some will. We started in the barn which Ken has turned into a casual museum of the area. Lots of the artifacts came from the ranch itself. Then we were fitted with helmets (much cleaner than the Kauai ATV ones, which we appreciated), dust masks, goggles, and gloves. We were offered the choice of fully automatic ATVs or ones you have to shift, but not clutch - we chose the later ones for the extra power & gear control. We started on a flat area with instruction & then headed out on the trail. They paced themselves to us, and while this was a technically more challenging course than the Kauai one, it was more fun, too. The ranch is gorgeous & the views go on for miles when you get to the top of the mountains. Boy is it dusty, but that's what you expect... After the trip you clean up a bit & head into the barn for a tri-tip lunch & all the fixings - yum. Kathy's family showed up & the nephews got to ride around the practice circuit. It felt like we were part of the family & I don't think we left until about 2pm to head home for a much needed shower. Kathy took a bunch of pix - she's quite talented - and we look forward to seeing the pix - and for free, unlike Kauai where they charge you for the DVD of pix. We did the 4 hour Cystal Peak tour. Johnny's review was great, so I don't have much to add except a few tips: ATVing is more strenuous and requires more focus than I had imagined, so make sure you get a decent night's sleep the day before. My forearms are sore and my palms are bruised from the 4 hour ride, but I don't regret a minute of it. Drink water, lots of water. I didn't realize until an hour after I left Jay's house (where the tour starts and ends) that I should have drank a lot more water, and at each stop during the tour. The sun is brutal (even in late October) and the air is dry. Bring a bag to wrap up all your dirt-covered clothes after the tour. Your car will appreciate it. Lastly, the tour is conducted at a good pace. It's fast enough that you're constantly aware of your driving, but for a first-time rider thinking you're going to be racing your ATV, the trail requires some technical driving, so you're not going to be going that fast. On the flatter areas, Rachel would speed ahead so we could go a little faster, but we took it slow on the rocky and steep downhill parts of the trail. read more

My friends and I were in Reno over the Memorial Day Weekend and wanted to engage in a daytime activity other than gambling. We decided on taking an ATV tour and found High Sierra ATV Tours after browsing the web for ATV tours in Reno. One thing I'd like to note is that this place is not really located in Reno... they're actually located about 30 miles northwest of Reno (yes, you will cross back into the California state line since they're actually at the east edge of California), which was no problem for us since we drove to Reno. Before I get into the ATV tour ride itself, I'd like to make note of another observation I had... We actually decided to ride ATVs when we got back to the hotel room at 2AM in the morning and fortunately, they answer their phones 24 hours per day. However, when the person on the other line answered (Jay), it almost sounded like I woke him up from his sleep. And being that this is a family-run business, I'm now convinced that I did so I do kinda feel bad about that. On the other hand, this allowed us to schedule our ATV adventure for that same day (well, after we woke up and had brunch). On to the ATV Tour... These people are very accomodating. When I called, our group of four were planning to go on 3 ATVs (2 individual and 1 2-seater). However, when my girlfriend took a quick round on their 50' obstacle course, she chickened-out as a driver and rode with me instead. So now, our group was down to 2 ATVs (two 2-seaters) -- nonetheless, we still got our own ATV tour guide for our very small group. The 2-hour ATV ride consisted of us following our tour guide (Rachel) in her ATV. Rachel was awesome! She knew the trails like it was her own back yard (well, given that she grew up in the area, it more or less IS her back yard!) and set a really good pace for us to follow. Every so often, she would look back to make sure we were okay. When we reached a point in the trail that had either a view or something else worth mentioning, Rachel would stop and volunteered to take photos of us with our cameras. There was one spot along the trail where there was about 30' of sitting water from recent rain that covered the trail. Rachel decided it would make a great photo op for us and went out of her way to position herself to photograph us as we were riding through the water. Their ATVs appear to be very well kept and look like they're up to date on DMV (I think?) registration as there was a 2010 registration sticker on the back of all their ATVs. They also seem very organized... there is a room/large shed where they have helmets and goggles nicely organized by size on shelves. They even provided us with water during the ride -- totally unexpected and the water was very welcomed since it was quite warm that day. Overall, we had a very positive experience with this place and I'll definitely be coming here next time I'm in the Reno area! This is not to be missed if you're looking for other activities in the Reno area! And I felt it was very reasonably priced -- considering the length of the tour. read more

Best time ever. Will be buying atvs to supplement my westy and jet skis. Made a reservation Wednesday for Thursday morning. Showed up early and the atvs were all ready outside ready to go! Riding started out easy and got more fun the longer we rode. Cannot recommend this enough. Most of us were under 6 feet and 200 pounds and got yami 125cc atvs, my brother who is over 6 feet and 200 pounds got a 250cc can am. Great for our first time! Super helpful and friendly people. Planned a bachelor party with ken and he was super nice and accommodating. Got to the ranch and was expecting a ride similar to atving in Hawaii. This was 10 times better and at least 10 miles faster the whole time. Basically, we were seeing who could go the fastest up and down hills, over rocks and some decent size boulders, and the tight turns. Many times, either side of the wheels would be off the ground. We were all covered in dust in the end, one dripping in mud, but all had huge smiles on our faces. Then a delicious BBQ meal afterward. Great guys and a great experience. The Sierra Touring for the ATV adventure was a blast! The tour guide, Chris, was exceptional. The trails had various terrain and the scenery was beautiful. The location was easy to find being my first time in that area. The gloves and helmets provided are used but they served their purpose. I was with a group of 4 and we would book this adventure again. We did the 2 hour ATV tour. It was fantastic!! We were 3 - two adults and a teenager and everyone had a great time. The owner, Jay was very nice. We went out on our tour with Christina & Ty. It was very casual, we never felt rushed and the excursion did not feel like a 'TOUR'. It was just the 3 of us and the guides and they basically let us enjoy the ATVs. There were a few stops and they checked up on us from time to time. They provided us with water during the tour which was very nice. They are about 35 min from downtown Reno. You won't be disappointed! Great fun. Usually the tours lose their charm because of bureaucracy and paperwork. Not this one...family run business. They just tell it like it is and then you are literally on your way. We'll be back to do the 4 hour tour soon!! The ATVs are also automatic and kept up. None of this 'manual' driving business. Like the previous reviewer mentioned, they have a huge ranch with a purpose built ATV trail that winds though some flat areas and brush to get you warmed up and then goes up the hills for some awesome views and more technical riding. The brand new 3-seater wave-runners start at $90/hr with free launching at Frenchman's Lake and a nominal fee at any lake within 100 miles of Reno. Ken and his troupe lead a top notch tour of the 1700 acre ranch. The ATV event starts with a brief intro/training period. Then it's off to the races, going up and down some hand carved paths on the various paths and mountains surrounding the ranch. The path we took had a good mix of tight turns, hills, straight-aways, and mud. It was a blast. We went for a bachelor party. All told, it took a little under four hours including the amazing home cooked meal afterward. I would leave aside the better part of a day to do the event since it is about an hour outside of Reno. That said, I would do it again in a heartbeat. These guys know what they're doing. Bring extra clothes though. It gets muddy out there. read more
