Damn is the recession hitting us that hard? Is it that bad that I have to cash in my bling bling, gold chains, platinum grills for some cash? Cash that I could be paying bills with, but instead I'd probably spend it on food or some new place just so I can Yelp about it. Man times are tough, but fortunately we have places like Pawn shops and thrift stores to have our backs in times of need!! So I was out with mama the other day. She likes to get her hair and nails did at that Hollywood Nails place right there on Highland. I hate going there with her. I always end up sitting there watching people stare at me as they dry their nails under that UV light thingy...awkward!!..so I decide to take a stroll and see what other shops are right there in that plaza. I come across Express Pawn. Now I never really understood the concept of "pawning" things...only thing that came to mind that was close was "PWN'ing" someone...for all my online gamers u know what I mean(if not : PWN (verb) 1. An act of dominating an opponent. 2. Great, ingenious; applied to methods and objects. Originally dates back to the days of WarCraft, when a map designer mispelled "Own" as "Pwn". What was originally supose to be "player has been owned." was "player has been pwned".) ok excuse the geek in me...as I was saying...I really never knew the concept of Pawning till I walked in the store. I was curious so I asked exactly what they did. I guess from what I learned is that you bring in your goods and they give ya cash for it. Easy as that! Kinda like the thrift stores...I mean if you got extra stuff laying around why not right? So I leave the store with thinking about all the bling bling and gold I have laying around that I can trade in for cash......hmmmm.....thinking even harder.... This place is horrible! I brought in a Fender Kurt Cobain Jaguar ($1300) to get a small $200 loan. I kept telling the guy that it was a Kurt Cobain Jaguar because he seemed to have problems finding it on eBay. He didn't want to listen. Finally I pulled up eBay on my phone to show him and right away he got defensive saying that it doesn't matter what I can pull up on my phone and that I'm not able to view used prices on eBay mobile. Really dude? I buy used stuff from eBay through my phone all the time. Anyways, he then said the most he could loan me was $125. Are you serious? I once again told him that it's a $1300 dollar guitar and he smirked and told me it wasn't worth that much. Yes, it's 2 months old but he could've easily sold it for $900 if for some reason I didn't pay off the loan. Anyways, I left after the low ball offer and rudeness. I went down to the pawn shop in Chula Vista and they gladly offered me up to a $400 loan. I only took $200 though. Stay away from this place. Unless you wanted to be low balled or disrespected.
