We just completed a major primary bathroom remodel with Express Tile Design, late 2025. Florin, the owner, and Jose, his partner, are absolutely the best and here is why. The final payment and the estimate of the time were exactly as Florin provided initially, no surprises. They both are superior craftsman providing all work with precision and exceeding our already very high expectations. Florin is especially customer friendly spending hours with us at the tile store and helping select fixtures before we even committed to him to make sure what we selected were the best including quality, colors and style to match our architect-built original home. Florin went well beyond typical contractor work providing many unexpected extras such as using self leveling concrete and setting the tiles so flat and with consistent grout lines, you could play billiards on them, taping off the rest of the house with plastic sheets to prevent any dust and dirt getting anywhere else yet with a zipper to allow us to get into other rooms, draping the floors, carefully salvaging the existing expensive glass blocks, completely cleaning up every evening, adding many new parts to the existing toilet when they replaced it, making sure the six shower fixtures were exactly positioned symmetrically, considering placement of all fixtures to make sure the existing lighting was optimized, patching the existing textured walls perfectly and making sure everything worked perfectly. Florin and Jose did the tile work in our primary bathroom. Before he started work (and before we even had a contract in place) he stopped by a number of times to help me plan things out. He also helped with tile selection - notably noticing that one of our tiles we selected early on was of lower quality. He helped me with choosing a number of sub contractors as well. When it came to actually doing the tiling work Florin and Jose did the job quickly and with minimal mess. We had an issue with a Schluter part failing (not Florin's fault) and Florin has been helping us navigate warranty stuff with Schluter even though the job was over a while ago. I think most contractors I've worked with in the bay area just want to get in and get out as quickly as possible and get paid. That's all they care about. Florin was different in that I think what he wanted was for my project to be successful. This is a very, very different attitude than most contractors I've worked with and for that reason I expect to have him do more work for us in the future. I strongly recommend Florin. read more

My wife and I are extremely pleased with our new floor. Florin recommended two tile stores: Hera Tile and Stone and Bullnose Tile. We went with his first choice, Hera Tile. Florin's friend Turk, at Hera, helped us select a beautiful set of Travertine tile and Florin beautifully installed the tile using a Versailles pattern and a grout in the perfect shade to match the tile. Florin is hard working, sometimes staying up past nine. He is honest, conciensious and has a good work ethic. The original floor was sloped horribly, but Florin expertly leveled it. The original floor also did not line up with the adjacent living room hardwood floor. After Florin's finished the job, they are flush. Finally, he was very pleasant to work with. I had Florin of Express Tile Design install floor tiles in 3 bathrooms in my house. We agreed o n this scope of work - I would remove the old floor, baseboard and toilet, andselect and purchased the backerboard, new floor tiles and thinset. Florin installed the backerboard, cut, position and lay the tile for me, and then I would come around and do the grout and sealer myself Florin is very professional in his work. The tile looks great and the floor feels rock solid from the backerboard and the surface is even from tile to tile. Florin even told me which grout to buy, how to mix it for proper consistency and how to apply it. He spent a good 15 minutes showing me how he does it with his own tools. In addition, he was adamant that I use a good sealer (511 impregnator) so that the water doesn't penetrate the grout and stain it. I would totally recommend Florin to anyone who wants to do tile. I'm usually a DIYer but I know what I'm capable of, and judging when it's best to let the experts handle it. I'll be giving Florin a call next time I need a new tile floor, that's for sure! read more
