I worked…read moreclosely with Jon, the president of the company, to make sure that he understood everything I wanted done. He was extremely courteous and knowledgeable about everything. It turned out that I had omitted an important piece of info for him, which was that the Mini-DV was recorded in Hi-Def, a medium which apparently is not commonly used. Video City did not have a Hi-Def Mini-DV tape deck. Instead of telling me that he couldn't complete the job and to take my business elsewhere, Jon went above and beyond and called camera and video stores all over the Philadelphia area to see if he could rent their equipment to finish my project. When he couldn't find what he needed, he drove outside the Philadelphia area and picked up the proper equipment himself. The final result was exactly what I needed, and I would highly recommend Video City for anyone who needs video transfer or editing done. Jon did way more than was called for, and this is an example of how a good business is run.

Some time ago, I used them to make a…read moredigital transfer of some old film footage and 1) it was expensive 2) quality of the transfer was just terrible- it looked like someone projected it on a screen in their basement and just shot it with a low resolution camera and 3) it took weeks longer than expected. There was a very prominent vignetting in all the footage that was not in the original, as well. I had it redone with a service in Old City I used before and while it was also expensive (same price) it came out properly. The girl behind the counter was also not helpful at all and wouldn't address any of the quality issues. She blamed it on the original footage quality, but when it was redone, it came out fine.

But as a photographer, it was an amazing studio to work with. The studio was modern and clean! They have a large studio with an expansive grid for lighting. There is more than enough floor space as well for housing props, crew, and equipment. There is also a seating area "upstairs" in the studio where I was able to plug in and edit photos while being out of the way of those still working but able to keep an eye on the shoot. There are multiple garage doors for loading in as well as a fridge, large sink, coffee maker, green room, two bathrooms, private parking lot, and a small conference room upstairs. I did leave my camera battery and charger there, so hopefully the customer service will show itself and help me get that back ASAP! It has all the top of the line equipment and pro tools. and the Sound Technicians are definitely experienced. It's smack dab in the middle of Old City, and they have the occasional live performance during a First Friday. It's free and they even give out wine. but they record the music when they do so it's best to keep quiet when the bands play.
