However, from the moment I contacted Extra Space Storage for a quote to the day of my move-in, I received nothing but exceptional customer service. On moving day, I realized that the unit I had reserved wouldn't accommodate all of my belongings. Store Manager Jalena D. went above and beyond to help. She quickly found an additional unit--conveniently located directly across from my original one--and walked me through the entire process of adding the new space. She even offered water to my movers during the transition. Customer service means a great deal to me, and I would be remiss not to acknowledge the outstanding level of care and professionalism Jalena D. provided. Raw sewage extra space storage! Units flooded get your stuff out now. No one called us!

Horrible customer service! They did not tell me about the need for a cylinder lock when I moved in and then stated that I needed to get one over a month after I moved in. I believe my unit should have been grandfathered in and a lock should not have been required. Also my unit is high up where you need the ladder to get to so that is an added security feature. The manager stated she would charge me $21 for this lock and mail me the keys. Just rude and unprofessional. I asked for additional time to secure my lock and the manager just told me she would charge me for the lock and add it to my bill. Why ? My lock IS sufficient and secure. Just very unprofessional. Also the doors sometimes don't work and can be opened by hand. I had to open by hand one evening as the code to access the building wouldn't open the door and yes I was able to slide the doors open with only a little bit of force. read more

We were planning to be great, long-term, tenants at this neighborhood Extra Space Storage on Edgewood. As soon as our payment was drafted for our 3rd month, we received a postcard notice that rent was increasing by 80%. They baited us with an enticing $118/mo rental agreement, then after just two months they almost doubled the rent to $211/mo due to "market conditions." We were completely in SHOCK when we saw the postcard. My heart breaks for others who may fall victim to such a scam as this (a true "bait-and-switch") who won't have the time or resources to handle vacating and finding a new storage facility that has better business ethics and practices. Someone who doesn't promptly check his/her mail, or anyone could easily overlook a "notice" like this (that honestly looks like a piece of junk mail) and then SURPRISE your credit card is suddenly charged double and you have nowhere else to go. I contacted the manager (Karen) at the branch and spoke in a very calm manner, explained that I was confused, honestly thought this must be a mistake. We've barely been customers for 3 months, how could "market conditions" almost double in just two months? The manager offered to send a note to corporate to request a 50% increase instead of 80%. I was blown away at the audacity of that statement and those numbers. I decided to end the relationship immediately. I could understand a 5-10% market increase after a length of time, say 6 months or a year, preferably. But 80% increase? Almost $100 more per month? After just 3 months of rent has been paid? You've lost your mind. The manager reminded me on the phone that their lease terms "say there will be rent increases as market adjustments are needed." And she's right about that. That is indeed in there. And I certainly agreed to those terms. But who would have ever thought such a thing would occur this quickly or dramatically. So let this review serve as my warning to others: Renter Beware -- This facility will hook you with a reasonable rate, DOUBLE it on you after two months, and then pray you overlook their little postcard, or don't have the time/energy to save yourself from their scheme. In the interest of justice, as a resolution, I've now devoted more time and resources to move-out before the next billing date - simply on a matter of principle. I've rented a truck and secured an identical unit at a neighboring facility for $108/mo - and locked in that rate for one year. This will never happen to my family again. I will not allow Extra Space to take another dollar from us. Lastly, I stress that the issue is not wholly focused on the pricing, but more so simply an issue of ethics -- treating others how you want to be treated, and doing business (earning profits) in a fair and honest way. Nothing about this experience has been honest or ethical. In my family, we only do business with people we know, like, or trust. You must fall in to one of those three categories. Extra Space Storage is none of those. At a corporate level, they are bad people. At a local level, they are bad people. To Extra Space Storage we say: Good luck renting our old space for $211 in the current "market conditions". Across the street it's just $108. I also see the unit currently advertised for $126 online. Extra space on 5027 Hixson Pike was purchased by another company and Extra Space is managing the location. The units across from me and beside me came opened. I've been at these units for several years. When it was owned by a different company. I seen the new manager and the assistant manager wiping down the walls inside with hand towels and cleaning solution. The inside of those units looked brand new. The new mangers got the job in February and he's making big improvements to the property. He was working here off and on for weeks. Mainly his attitude and personality and the other gentleman that works with him as well. This is new management not previous employees. I see a lot of people complaining about rates on line I checked around since Extra space took it over I found them to be well in line. The management staff is making a difference. I enjoy coming to my warehouses now. Just to show you that this is an honest review I have no family or friends that work here or for the company. Just sharing my experience for the last couple of months from the last several years. read more

The sign up experience was very easy and the space itself is nice and clean. I had two problems, the first and most important one is that the representative didn't advise me that there were certain times to access the facility. Soooo, I'm there with a truck full of furniture and two workers unable to enter the facility. I contact them right then and the representative had a very nasty attitude. In turn, I had to find somewhere to leave the truck overnight, find new workers the next morning and wind up spending an additional $350. Will I ever use them again, NOT IN THIS LIFETIME. read more

Buyer Beware classic Bait & Switch Con 01/23/2017 After touring facility and seeing comparable 10X10 vs 10X15 storage units to rent, it was decided that Extra Space Storage was best to meet our needs. Reservations were made online as suggested by the friendly Assistant Store Manager and when appointment came this is what was offered, a 10X10 storage unit with concrete beam? Of course this was the "only ones" available and thankfully I did not waste any more time as I am sure they had other units available without a concrete beam to switch into at a higher price. After voicing concern to this dubious practice, I got perplexed looks from the management team and insincere apologies with no business acumen to resolve this lost customers issue. You live and learn. Follow Up: Chrissy Miller the area manager calls me right away to explain how if I had reserved unit I saw that day I would have had that storage unit without concrete beam we had looked at. My point to Chrissy was lack of transparency and disclosure that was important for the units that have these issues. Of course it is logistically impossible for Extra Space Storage to mark units that have a concrete beam or any type of obstruction out of the ones that don't. I say baloney. Oh here is the disclaimer from the webpage: Unit sizes advertised for rent are approximate only and units at the self-storage facility may differ slightly in shape and/or size. Customers should inspect the actual unit to be rented before signing a rental agreement and should base the decision to rent on the inspection of the unit and not on the advertised unit size. The lady by the name Karen lied and was very rude. She wrote 6 fake complaints about me that was never true or real. And lied and said I never paid for storage space which I did. She showed me the wrong unit that was never mine and it belongs to someone else. She called the police on me for no reason just so she can kick me and my kids off the property. She will turn off your access code so you can get into the building to access your belongings. She lied on my kids (8,9,13,18,26) and got them scared cause they way she came at the talking and acting crazy my kids had to call the police so they can get the rest of our things. She discriminate on people very Karen is very racist to people. As long as she works there go to another place for a unit cause she is going to take your money and lied and said that you never paid. READ THE FINE PRINT!!!! First of all I began renting a 5x5 unit in July 2022 and here we are 3 months later getting a rent increase of $18!! Needless to say when I moved in the so called 5x5 unit was not a true 5x5 seeing that a concrete column runs down one side of it. When I inquired about this, they said that it's an approximate size. I let it slide bc hey, $62/month. It was reasonable. But then I get that notification that my card was just charged $80 and will continue to be that from now on. When I called they said it was in the contract that within 4-6 months it will be subject to a pay increase. Well, it has only been 3 months and also, that is something that should be discussed up front! This is corporate GREED at its best!!!! DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME WITH THESE FOLKS!! read more

Raised the rent by $80 with no notice. Doesn't seem legal to me. They don't care. Canceling and never returning.

I am extremely disappointed with this faculty and facility. After 6 years between $600-$1150 a month, long standing history, they increased my rates without notice. They state in the lease they can go month to month and increase rates at any time. It is absurd to have landlords or storage facilities raise your rent during a pandemic, and when you request a review of the account, they decline the request - mind you, without any notice once again to let you know your request for refund was declined. Poor customer service, no trash facility on site, limited hours. I would highly suggest keep on driving to find a better solution - this has no care for customers - and I mention this after finally hitting my last straw. I canceled my 7 year agreement today after what appeared to be a regional manager standing in the room, and she just watched on, she could of engaged seeing the customer resolution was not satisfactory. After renting a unit at this Extra Space Storage location for several months, I think more affordable options, for the same amenities, exist. Things that prospective renters should know: **** I. SPACE & LAYOUT Sizes include the following: 4x5, 5x5, 5x10, and 7x10. Small lockers also exist, but I don't know the dimensions of those. I had the 7x10, and I had no problems with the actual space. I appreciate how well-lit the place is, although, like what Ben G wrote, someone needs to change that terrible radio station. Pop music just doesn't go well there. Units span several massive floors, and they utilize street names to help patrons find their way around. I had a locker on the sixth floor, and no problems navigating in and out. II. SECURITY & ACCESSIBILITY I believe they have security cameras hung about, but that's about it. A code is only needed for the door, and the only security a storage unit has is its lock. Honestly, I think it's too easy to access. This Extra Space Storage is accessible 24 hours, for users. Office hours are typical business hours. It's best to call and confirm, since they could vary. III. PRICES Due to the random increases in prices (over $50 per month over a course of several months), I decided that other storage unit locations offered much more affordable prices. I paid $180 for a 10x7 unit. That falls roughly about $65 more than what's listed on their website. The storage unit I have now is much less than this one. IV. OVERALL I don't need a storage space to be fancy. Just decently clean with solid security at a competitive price. Thus, I've taken my business elsewhere. And when I told them I would close our company account with them, they didn't seem to care. read more

I've had a storage unit at this Extra Space Storage for a little over 4 months now and I have to say that I'm a much bigger fan of this location than my previous one. The staff is great, the grounds are always clean, and there are all of the amenities you could need while onsite -- great bathrooms, plenty of parking, dollies, carts, good lighting. The best aspect of this location is the rear entrance and loading dock. There is a lowered lot that pulls right up to the back door which is controlled by a keypad lock. I always feel good about this entrance as it is still super safe. Also, having the dumpster for garbage right there is wonderful as well. My only complaint is hardly a complaint at all. More of a joke/rant -- PLEASE SOMEONE CHANGE THE RADIO STATION. Worst music. Just terrible. read more

The location is excellent - very convenient to my home. I have been renting a unit at Extra Space Storage for a little more than a year. While management is friendly, the company makes minimal effort to secure the the premises. The video monitoring is limited to entries/exits which is of little value. I have just had the second break-in at the unit in six months. In July, the first incident occurred. i raised security concerns following the break-in. Nothing was done to address the concerns and clearly given today's finding of yet another breach in my unit and missing articles, it's clear nothing has changed. I'm hoping the latest incident will encourage action from the company that will ensure greater security and surveillance. I have rented storage space in 3 different cities.This is by far the most flippant approach to security I have ever experienced. Extra Space Storage patrons do not store valuables here! read more

Security and customer service issues. The facility is clean and newer and in a good location. Maybe I was spoiled by being at an extra amazing facility before having to move to this one, but compared to my previous location the customer service and security are way below the standard set by ExtraSpace. First, the parking and dumpster area are not gated. I have to go early in the mornings and in the evening sometimes, and it makes me nervous to be walking with huge boxes in my hands in unsecured areas. Sometimes homeless people hang out at the dumpster, and one guy asked to take my boxes. He was nice, but it's still a scary feeling to be approached by a man alone behind an empty building. Also, sometimes there's no parking in the back area, and I have to wonder if all the cars are really customers or just people parking there. They should enclose the parking and dumpster ASAP as they do at other locations! Secondly, the staff is fine and polite, but they definitely don't go out of their way in any way. I've been there less than a year and had several times when something was delivered and still not put in my unit by the next morning. I was told it was because they were delivered after the 2:00 cutoff. This week, a package was delivered at 11am, and I really needed it the next day so stopped by first thing in the morning. No package in my unit so I had to wait until someone came to the office at 9:30...there was a new customer signing up so the lady working said from now on she'd stay late if she has to make sure I get them in before the next day from now on, made it sound like she'd go out of her way. A couple days later I get a call that I got a new delivery and that it's over the requirement of how many packages they have to deliver to the unit (I got several packages all under 20 lbs) so they won't do it. I never had issues like that at my last location. So now I'll have to take time out of my workday just to go take the packages to my unit as they're going to let them sit in the office for several days while I'm out of town rather than take them to my unit a couple at a time. Maybe they don't technically "have to" as she said, but don't act like you're going to go out of your way in front of a new customer and then a few days later tell me you're not doing anything over the bare minimum...especially since it's not a repeated issue getting that many packages at once. Finally they lost my key once, so I had to get a new lock, and they finally provided one but at first acted as if it was my responsibility even though they lost their copy. They said the delivery guy lost it when he took the samples to my unit, but if the delivery guy takes them, why are they at the front office when I need them the next morning? Maybe I was just spoiled because the customer service was above and beyond at the Cheshire Bridge location, and I usually never write negative reviews, but there have been so many instances now when I wished I was back at the old location! read more

As storage places go, this one is fine except the price is outrageous! I've had 2 units at different times here, and both times, after 6 months they raise the price pretty significantly. The storage facility itself was nice and clean, but the customer service here was terrible. As they should know, moving is a very stressful experience! We moved to Atlanta from the West Coast and were staying with friends until we found our own place, so needed a storage unit. After multiple games of phone tag we were told that we couldn't confirm a unit (there's always "just 1" available) over the phone with a credit card because we had to come in person and sign a contract (email not allowed) which was impossible b/c we were 3,000 miles away. e previously were told that reservations were good withing a 30 day window, then we finally spoke with someone who was helpful and she recommended going to a local location (in WA) to secure a unit which we did. We crossed all the t's, dotted all the i's and confirmed that we would have a unit for our movers to pick up our stuff in OR and drive to our unit in GA. Well a few weeks later we meet our moving truck at the unit and go to the front desk with our ID and say we have a unit reserved but she can't find us in the system. Our stomachs drop. We start looking in our phones for our confirmation #'s and start chatting with her and she says "Oh, you have a confirmed unit. Not a reservation?". Why can't you check both screens before making us nervous!? She just wasn't friendly or helpful at all. There are two levels to this location and we needed to go down to the bottom one for our unit. The driver of the semi truck is there and he is asking if he can fit down there. Again, she's very unhelpful even to the driver and tells him which way to go - as soon as we take the first time it says "NO TRUCK". We eventually figured it out but the gal working the desk the few times we were there really made the experience harder than it needed to be. Teach your employees some basic customer service etiquette - and maybe some manners! read more

So many issues with this place. First I got movers to move by stuff into the unit and I had purchased the unit the day before... by the time I got there my unit was not unlocked so I went to the office (which says opens at 9a... no one showed up until close to 11. Meaning I had to pay my movers for 2 more hours. Miami (front desk) apologized and offered me next month free. Which of course the next month I was charged. Called multiple times within the week and no one answers or calls you back. So I had to take an hour to drive down there in which I was informed I would be charged w late fee if they refunded... even though it was their fault. Britany at the front desk was so rude and not helpful. Stay away!!! Store ANYWHERE else. Lesson learned. read more

If you ever want to access your stuff, DO NOT RENT A UNIT HERE. After a couple of hours running around this place trying to figure out how to access my unit (along with about six other upset, paying customers), I left yesterday without being able to access my unit at all. The claim of 24/7 access is simply not true. I arrived at the facility only to find the elevator disabled and no stair access (the door to the floor of my unit is locked). I called the national office only to be told that there's nothing they can do and to come back when the on-site office is open. I was told I'd receive a call from the local manager, but I never got that call. I was also told that the elevator was likely disabled by someone smoking in it. There's a sign posted that says if the door are held, the elevator will stop working. If the elevator can be so easily disabled, why isn't there a contingency plan for this? And at the very least, why isn't there stairway access to every floor? I'm in the process of moving out of state, and I traveled here from New York just to get some things I need out of storage. I now have to leave today empty-handed. It's overpriced for what you get, they'll raise rates on you out of the blue, and if anything does go wrong no one will try to or care to fix the problem, locally or at the national level. If you do rent here, at the very least insist on a unit on the same floor as the office (floor 4), where you do not have to rely on the elevator or stairs to access your unit. Regardless, I strongly suggest you take your stuff--and your cash--elsewhere. read more

It was an easy process to get set up, and after showing me the 1st unit that had a smaller door than I needed, Susie showed me another unit that works just fine. I had to organize a move from across the country into this Extra Space storage location and everything about my experience was great. I reserved a space through the easy to use website. Since I would not be on hand to execute the contract, the manager Joe recommended I go to an Extra Space facility near me in California to set everything up. The manager in California did the contract in 10 minutes, called the Edgewood location and coordinated directly with them. Super smooth! The move-in day went smooth too. Now my things are safe and sound until I return next year! I've been renting storage space from various facilities for many years and my experience with Extra Space was by far the best! read more

The facility is great, as others have noted here before. Super clean, nothing sketchy if you're entering solo and are of the female persuasion. I was in the middle of a stressful, crappy day with grumpy movers when I first drove up. The sign up was quick and the movers were able to get started while I signed in. The lady in the office was awesome. It was a weekend but since she knew I was coming, she actually CALLED ME BEFORE SHE WENT TO LUNCH!!! She didn't want us to arrive at the facility while she was out. Because of aforementioned endless, stressful move it was another couple of hours before we arrived...but even though it was the end of the day on a Saturday night she was super cool and helpful. This moving stuff is BS. But these guys made it a lot better. The rates are competitive, customer service is great and as long as the place doesn't go up in flames, I'm a happy camper. And also, I disagree with Benjamin!!! I actually *liked* the music...but then again I'm a 13-year-old girl on the inside. read more
