When my mom moved here over a decade ago we needed a place that was close by and climate controlled. Since we live near by we selected this place. We have used them for two units up until this weekend. We (my bother and sister) cleaned out the 2 units and while the process isn't much fun the woman who works there made this a lot easier. She was kind, understanding, and helpful during the check out process. I had lost the keys and she helped cut off the locks, she helped us when we needed a broom, and did it all with kindness and a smile. Her kindness is appreciated. read more

My storage unit was broken into, along with several others, despite Extra Space Storage's claims of it being a secure facility. Extra Space Storage never told me it was broken into -- I only discovered it myself six months later. They also refused to give me a copy of the video for my insurance claim. I rented a storage unit from Extra Space Storage in July of 2017. I went abroad for a while, so I moved all my stuff into it and left the country at the beginning of September. Only a week after I left, a guy that lives next the storage unit building broke into my second-floor unit and several others. The units have wire mesh roofs, so he cut the roofs of the others. With mine, he pried the sliding lock from the latch so he could open the door of my unit. I had two padlocks on mine, and neither were cut. The guy stole four nice bikes and all of my tools -- about $5000 in stuff. He walked all over the rest of my possessions, damaging lots of stuff. The police quickly caught the guy -- he's a well known thief, and given the location, they went right to him. The police recovered two of my bikes, but not the other two, and none of my tools. Despite the break-ins of other units and my storage unit having damage that was clearly visible from the outside, Extra Space Storage never told me that my storage unit was broken into. I only discovered it when I returned to the US six months later. Since the latch was damaged, my storage unit was left unlocked for six months. The thief was arrested, tried, and sentenced by the time I returned to Baltimore. Normally if someone steals your stuff, you can file a restitution claim, making reimbursement part of their sentence. Had Extra Space Storage told me in September, I could have filed a restitution claim, and I probably would have had a better shot at getting my stuff back, too. I asked Extra Space Storage what happened. They told me that the guy broke into the building, the alarms went off, and the police caught him coming out of the building. The police said something totally different -- that other people reported the thefts, not Extra Space Storage, and there weren't any alarms. I also asked Extra Space Storage for a copy of the video for insurance purposes. My claim will go more smoothly if I have a video showing this guy walking out with my stuff. Extra Space Storage said they deleted the video!!!! Why, when a bunch of units were broken into, and in an era when a one-terabyte flash drive is $15, would you delete the video?!?!? So basically, Extra Space Storage is not at all a secure facility, they tried to evade responsibility for the thefts, didn't tell me when my unit was broken into, and wouldn't provide the video from the thefts. read more

They have collected thousands of dollars from me (over $3000) with On time payments for over a year and a half. They have no concern for customer service or owning up to lack of follow up. This complaint has been filed with the Better Business Bureau as well as I will be contacting the states attorneys office. If they decide to honor my original cancellation notice and stop with threatening to place liens against me and send my account to collections, I'm happy to remove my negative reviews and agree that there has been a simple misunderstanding. In May 2016 my home in Baltimore Maryland was involved in a house fire. I needed to store some of my belongings that made it through the fire at this location on Falls Road. At that point in time it was owned by Devon self storage. I was set up with automatic billing and made my payments on time without issue. When I went in to turn off the automatic billing of my account my account went in to delinquency buy my own fault. I was never notified originally that my account was past due. I never received any letter or documentation from Devvon self storage or extra space storage. When I found out that I was past due, I reluctantly paid the late charges and told the manager via phone and the online account system that I would like to cancel my account. I have documentation that I canceled the account. During the phone call that I had with extra space storage when I first realized that my account was past due they told me I no longer had access to the facility and that my lock was cut off. When I made the payment to catch up on my account, I submitted a request for cancellation. My account was not canceled and has since gone past due again. I did not receive a phone call or a letter stating this until I was told that it would be going to collections in a lien placed against it. I've been harassed by her phone and when I requested follow up about prior conversations regarding my cancellation and payments, no one followed up with me. I've been harassed and threatened with collections and liens on an account that I paid for. I did not return to the facility with the key to my lock because I was explicitly told via phone that my lock was cut off and I no longer had access. I excepted an original error on my part and paid my bill in December. It is now February and I'm being harassed and threatened with collection and lien notices. I had no intention of having a house fire in May which resulted in more than enough problems. I've been harassed by the storage place with phone calls that never leave any details via voicemail. I've only been made aware of information via Phone calls that I have had the opportunity to answer and by that time with no information forwarded to me it was too late. I will file a complaint with the state attorneys office and dispute any allegations of late payment after December 2017. read more

The elevator is painfully slow which will cost you a fortune if you are paying movers by the hour. The staff is not helpful and a bit rude.

This was very lousy service! I wouldn't recommend this unit to anybody! Their customer service is totally crap! Half the time when you need to speak to someone in the office nobody is there or you have to wait an hour! Second of all the people in the office are rude! The storage place decided for no reason but because of the fact they were greedy to raise my rent $30 per month in addition to that I moved and I attempted to give them a 10 day notice but no they wouldn't dare refund my bill but they will quickly grab more money before the day is over if you have to upgrade to a larger locker. I'll tell you all one thing this will be the last time I ever do business with Extra Space and their lousy service explains why they only have 1 star out of five stars. With these kind of reviews I'm sure they would hope the dog eats it because as a business owner I would be ashamed of my self with this lousy service but at this point I say forget them! read more
