NOPE, Absolutely the worst experience ive had with a storage facility. IF YOU CARE FOR YOUR BELONGINGS, DONT STORE IT HERE. Even with the gates, security pad, storage alarms, and cameras how in the heck do storage rooms get broken into with no info on how it happened and when it happened? A majority of my belongings were taken and when I filed a police report, they advised I was the 4th person to call them about a burglary at this exact location in the past month. DO NOT USE THIS PLACE, YOUR LOCKER WILL BE BROKEN INTO, YOU WILL DEAL WITH DRUNKS AND VAGRANTS AND THE UNIT IS LEFT UNSECURED. HORRIBLE COMPANY!! I have had a storage unit here for years. It originally started great, but over the past 4 years it's become a horrific experience. They seem more focused on not filling up the garbage dumpster than anything. A Flood one year closed the facility for several months and I could not access my demonstration equipment, but that the gate is always broken so left wide open, i was put near a guy who was always drunk and passed out in front of my locker, one time I had to call the police to get him to move so I could access, he was angry and threatened me when I woke him up to move so I could access my locker. This week I went to get my Christmas stand and lights, there was a different lock on my unit. I went to the office and the manager (Sal) , asked if I had changed locks, SMH. Then he checked my account, all paid as I have for the last several years. I asked him if he had any theft on site and he said "No". He cuts the lock off my unit and it's been ransacked. All of my good stuff has been stolen. I found a wedding dress and other things that Sal said were from another locker around the corner who had her locker broken into and had also been robbed. My cut lock was on the floor. I asked him when she had been robbed and it was several months ago, I asked about the cameras and alarms, apparently the alarms had been disconnected in May when they replaced the gate. So my locker was completely unprotected. I asked if it was safer for the lockers closer to the office and he said no, that thieves had also hit lockers close to the office. So no place is safe at this facility. NO LONGER HAS ALARMS OR SECURITY. Sal seemed very pleased though with his 90% occupancy rates. I had to go to the sheriffs office for a report, the insurance they make you take covers 2k and I am missing 5k worth of household items and personal items. I had to fill out police report 1hour and now waiting for the adjuster to call. IF YOU VALUE YOUR SAFE STORAGE OF YOUR BELONGINGS, THIS IS NOT THE PLACE FOR YOU. HE SEEMED LIKE HE DIDN'T CARE AT ALL. More costs for less security. The only good thing is that the crooks left a wedding dress and photo album from another locker that was broken into at the same time. The used to have alarms for the units but no more, they let people come and go, they will cut your lock as they did mine, and the management doesn't care. read more

RENTER BEWARE - Your initial agreed upon rental rate may not last long. I started my rental agreement with this Extra Space location in May of this year. Rate they quoted me for a large unit was reasonable for its size. I asked if it was a promotional rate and they confirmed no, it was a normal rate. As it is a month to month contract, I asked if they typically raised rates and they said they "occassionally" adjust rates based on market changes. Today, less than 6 months later, I received notice in the mail that my monthly rate would increase by $35.00 (16% increase) starting next month. I called their corporate office and the person I spoke to said I should talk to the specific branch manager, as prices are set locally. So I called the manager for this site (Sal) and he said that its corporate that decides when and how much to adjust rates, that he had nothing to do with that. He did say that the first rate increase typically happens 5-6 months after first renting; and then expect additional increases of about the same month every 8-12 months thereafter. Although he did not say this is a policy, he described it as "what typically occurs". So what you can expect from Extra Space based on my experience: 15 - 16 percent increase after first 6 months; and 15-16 percent increase every 8-12 months thereafter. To put that in persepctive, a $230.00 montly rent can potentially increase to: 265.00 within 6 first months. 300.00 within 14 months of initial renting. 335.00 within 21 months of initial renting. I'm now looking for a new place to store my stuff. If you know you'll need long term storage, consider choosing a place that leases yearly instead of month to month. Yes, your explanation that Extra Space "occassionally" increasing rates is exactly what the staff at the Harbor Drive location told me when I first signed in May of this year. Here's the thing: Increasing my rent 35 dollars in the first six months, followed by anticipated additional similar increases every 8-12 months thereafter (as explained to me yesterday by the local manager) is not "occassional" increase; rather that is systematic incremental rate raising. I currently pay $230.00 a month for an extra space unit, which was NOT a promotional price. To increase the price by 35.00 in six months with expectation that it will increase by same price again in less than a year after that increase is quite frankly, predatory, unethical bussiness practices. I am not alone in this experience, I have seen numerous other yelp reciews expressing this same concern. If Extra Space beleives this it is acceptable to raise rates so quickly, at least consider being more transparent to your customers at time of signing so correct expextations are set. And 888-STORAGE was the very first call I made yesterday and I was informed I needed to discuss my concern with the local branch manager. Happy to call again, assuming Extra Space is willing to remedy this price increase practice. But if all Extra Space is going to do on the call, is explain why they "occassionally" raise rates, then no thanks, it was explained to me once already. Let me know. My romance with Extra Space Storage just keeps getting better. I drove by today and noticed they were running a special on larger units. I haven't been in my unit for even a month yet, but I went in and inquired about the special. Within ten minutes we had signed paperwork, they transferred my year lease on my current unit over to a new, larger unit at the great promotional rate, and they did it all cheerfully and without any bureaucratic, we-just-work-here-the-home-office-won't-let-us-do-that mumbo jumbo. The kicker? They interpreted the rules to mean that I can use the spacious Extra Space moving truck for another day, for free. I'm bringing these guys a box of chocolates this week, or if it stays beastly hot like it is today, a couple of icey cold beverages. Update entitled: Men talking at me, Volume Infinity+1 Subtitle: Not today, not ever, Guy In response to a flood that occurred on the top floor of the building in March, where I was not eligible for insurance reimbursement on ANY of my stored items $200 a month for 5x10 space. Expect rent to go up around 10% or more every year, this year it went up twice. When I first rented the space 2 years ago, it was $130 a month. The amenities have not gotten better and with exception of a recent flood that had the facility closed for nearly a month with all of renters' things held hostage, on top of the water damage destroying a decent amount of my stuff. When I, as a customer, walk into a business I shouldn't be the one who has to provide the smile and customer service etiquette. That's what you do, guy. So don't be taken aback when I loudly and frustratedly say 'HI' when I enter the small space of your office and have to walk around an employee sitting in the only customer chair that's partially blocking the doorway and still somehow be ignored by both parties. In an otherwise silent trailer that had loud metal steps that I walked up to get in and I have neon orange hair, you both somehow did not see me. I'm not invisible. I know I'm not invisible. And now I'm going to make it very hard for you to ignore me by asking that you do your job. After I had to greet the men, I was acknowledged with a, 'it'll be a just a few minutes and someone can take you to see your unit'. Ok. I go outside but there's nowhere to sit, cars and trucks keep pulling in, there's direct sunlight and also- you've held my stuff hostage here for the last month where I've had a storage unit I'm paying $200 for that I can't access and have to drive around with a bunch of sh*t I don't have room for in my car. Maybe try a little harder with your customer service angle to provide some chairs, shade, a friendly greeting. I didn't wait long before I went back inside to ask how long it would be and they told me the name of a woman who was showing someone else their unit but should be back in a few minutes. This frustrated me because HUNDREDS of units were flooded and damaged and you have ONE person taking people to their units. Only after I ask why there's just one person doing that job did the man who was standing in the trailer eating chips say he can take me back to see the unit. We get up to the 3rd floor and he briefs me to look for anything with paper or fabric because it can get moldy... which is obvious except it seemed odd to me that he was using a future tense, as if my stuff that's been wet, in the dark, and in a hot non-airconditioned unit wouldn't already be moldy and ruined. I open the unit and can immediately see that all my ground level boxes have water damage, my speaker/amp, all my work supplies on the lower half of my unit - wasted. He takes some pics, I take a ton of pics. He starts telling me what I need to do (that's already very obvious) and pointing out all the stuff that was up higher and didn't appear to get ruined. I stop him because I don't need this dude to tell me what's salvageable, I need him to tell me what I need to do to get reimbursed for all my stuff that's now ruined. Dude straight up huffs and puffs before going over the actual pertinent and important information. As if he's trying to help me by pointing out the single tote bag that didn't get wet. I don't need someone to tell me I was smart for putting stuff on shelves, I know I'm smart and it has nothing to do with shelves. Stop wasting my precious time with fluff and let's get down to business. I start to toss smaller boxes into the hall area and ask if they can send someone to help move the larger stuff so I can check and claim the lower box damages. He tells me their guy for that is helping someone else but I can come back this weekend. Again HUNDREDS of units were flooded and you have ONE guy helping. I bring this up and the guy not only tries to immediately backtrack but interrupts me (oh no you did not), and then tries to blame me for not coming over the weekend when they suggested. I interrupt him right back. Because A. I was at the facility 45 minutes before they opened the facility back up a week before, when they could have told me then. There's 0% chance they got everything cleared and drafted an email to go out to everyone in under an hour with the very specific instructions on visiting the unit, and wanting people to drop everything they have and come to their facility in 36 hours on the weekend to pick out water damaged stuff. Some people don't plan their lives around their storage unit so no I did come here at your convenience over the weekend B. I'm the only person allowed to be frustrated in this situation C. I don't have enough characters to fully detail how poorly this situation was managed across the board but I did remove all my stuff as soon as I was able to and moved to larger and more affordable storage facility read more

Extra Space Storage on Harbor Drive in Belmont is wonderful. We just rented an indoor unit. I called the website number (which is a central corporate number) to find out - given Covid19 - when the Belmont office was open. The corporate person was very nice, professional, knowledgeable, and helpful. She said that the office was open normal hours and provided a great deal of specific information about the Belmont site. She also asked when we would like to visit the site and view the unit. I specified a time and corporate said that someone from the Belmont office would contact me. Sheri from Belmont called and we went to the Belmont office to rent a unit. The unit itself and the Extra Space Storage facility as a whole are spotless. The security of the facility seems first-rate. The process of renting a unit is straightforward and efficient. Moving items from our car to the indoor unit is as effortless as moving items can be - we can park our car at the entrance to the building, there are plenty of carts near the entrance on which to put our items, and the trip inside the building to our unit is hassle-free. We cannot say enough nice things about Sheri. She is knowledgeable, professional, efficient, friendly, and helpful. She patiently and pleasantly answered all of our questions. She made the process of renting a unit pleasant, stress-free, and efficient. We highly recommend Extra Space Storage in general and the Belmont site in particular! read more

They do raise the rates after 4 months. You need to ask a lot of questions. Like the first month, FREE is only good for you if you plan on staying there less than 3 months. The price per month is a lot less if you don't take the first-month free deal. It is better only if you stay longer. My rates are too high. I also don't like that they make you pay for insurance and an extra $15 a month depending on how much your stuff is worth. If you can get insurance to insure your things in a storage unit? Do it. My insurance Nationwide told me most companies wont insure a storage place. Public storage does the first month and you can cancel it anytime. You don't have to prove your insurance will cover the price of your stuff. Here at Extra Space, you have to prove you have insurance for your things. The positive things about this place. It is really safe and secure. The alarms go off every time I'm there. They have the best video surveillance I've seen. I haven't been to the inside units. I have a drive up one close to the gate. It is very clean outside. I drive around the middle units when I leave. Not the friendliness men there. They aren't mean either. The restroom is available when they are open. I have never been there at night to see how well it is with the lights. There is not a light inside my unit.the alarm goes off about 6 times in less than 2 hours. It is really dark at night. Not enough light for driving around the parking lot to get out. There are no light inside my 10x15 storage. There is one on one side the garage door. I have a drive up unit. I want to get out of there. There is a place down the street and around the corner. The price for a 10x25 is $400 plus insurance. No drive up unit available. read more

That was way too easy! From beginning to end, the process to rent a storage unit at Extra Space Storage in Belmont was seamless! I saw the web special and reserved a unit online. Then I spoke to Mariah on the phone and she answered all my questions; walked me through the lease; took my payment; and emailed me my confirmation, assigned storage unit number and access codes, etc. When I arrived at my storage unit an hour later, it was ready for me. Also, there was a tag with the manager's phone number. Since I was moving my things to the smaller unit on a different floor, Salvador made the necessary elevator arrangements to expedite my move. I was running out of room and needed some more space.. One thing that is very impressive is this company is extremely service oriented and seems to have it's priorities straight (the customers satisfaction is Number One!). I only ended up renting from them for about a month and two weeks. I got a move-in special rate and then totally expected something bad to happen, because I was moving out after the first month. I couldn't believe it..... There were NO extra fees, NO early termination fees, or NO required second month...etc and the manager even pro-rated the extra two weeks! Crazy, huh? The people are nice here. But here a few years and like clockwork every year they raise my monthly price by $10 for no apparent reason. Just watch out for that initial low price to get you in and then they gauge you more and more every year. (And they try to get you on the insurance thing too which other Yelpers mentioned.) RATS! Yup, rats got our stuff and they've done nothing about it. After moving cross-country, we had all our stuff in storage here for about 4 months while we found a place to live. We went to get a few things about 2 months in, and no problems. But when we went back with movers to finally move out, half of our boxes had been chewed through and there were RAT FECES AND URINE covering most of our stuff. We ended up having to trash a lot of items, including sheets and towels that had been shredded by the vermin. They ate through beloved books that can't be replaced. We had the Extra Space Insurance and filed a claim, but guess what? It doesn't cover vermin: EXCLUSIONS: We do not insure: b) Against loss or damage caused by or resulting from... moths, insects, rodents, vermin, mold, mildew... So keep that in mind if you decide to insure your stuff. I have personal property insurance that also doesn't cover vermin, so we're basically out a lot of extra cash, not to mention general peace of mind, from our move. Has Extra Space refunded our money for the 4 months we were with them? Heck no. BAD BUSINESS, Extra Space, in this world of Yelp reviews. read more

This place is full of lies and deception. When you visit they will tell you about the wonderful security system. What they don't tell you is they don't investigate the alarms triggered on your unit. I had about $3000 worth of belongings stolen. They said my alarm tripped a couple of times. They never once bothered to investigate. I asked why and they said we don't have time!!! No shit!!! When I went to the unit I couldn't figure out at first how someone could break in. Well their units have an Aluminum "bar" over the roll up door. This "bar" is easily bent down allowing some to climb into your unit. Then the person unscrews the latch from the inside to get out. When I filed a police report the office said this has happened a few times and been going for several months. So the management at Extra space knew the customers were getting robbed and did nothing to prevent this from happening. They didn't even try and secure this flimsy "bar" with something that can't be bent down. Or what about securing the latch bolt so the repeat offender would be trapped inside??? At least do something!!! I understand that robberies can't be prevented all together but some level of diligence should be applied. What about protecting the customers? They feel they are doing you a favor by renting their units. horrible service and worse experience. MOVE ON AND LOOK SOMEWHERE ELSE is my recommendation. read more

My brother George rented a space for almost a year in 2010. They make him buy insurance for an extra $9.00 a month, even though he didn't want it.. His $1000 bicycle was later stolen out of his storage space and their insurance company would not pay on the claim, even after the copy of the Police report was submitted. Extra Space storage is a decent storage facility, and there's one simple reason they get a 1-star review. Once you move you things in, they start jacking up the price. I am currently paying more per month than I did when I started. They've increased the price twice on me, but the "new customer" deal on their website is less than what I pay. When you sign up as a new customer, there's no indication that this rate is for a limited time. But once they have you in there, they jack up the price every few months, since you agreed to pay or move out. read more

I signed up for storage approx. 4 months ago at this facility. Upon my arrival, the manager informed me she would be able to set things up as long as it was before her lunch!? That was my first "WTF" moment with this place. She seemed off put that she had a customer in her store around 11AM and I felt like a burden. I stood up and said "don't worry, I'd like to stop. I feel rushed and there are plenty of other places, of which are also cheaper." Her attitude immediately changed and she entered kiss-butt mode. Magically, an outside, larger storage area had opened up and the rate someone became better. I do like how clean and secure the facility is, but ehhh. Anyway, I did rent with them, however when I went to pay my bill online right now, my rate went up by $25 to $175 without any notice from the company. Recently, my wife and I had to locate a storage space while we are moving. Fortunately we found Extra Space Storage in Belmont and are happy we did. Salvador and Armando have been fantastic in getting us set up in several units that meet our storage needs and budget. Their follow up and helpfulness throughout has been wonderful. I checked out a couple other storage places in the area and they were all pretty dingy, open to the elements etc. I got a storage space at Extra Space which was clean and air conditioned. The first month was practically free, they have some setup fees and insurance stuff, but I think it's like 30 bucks. You can pay your account online too which is convenient. I think it might be a little more expensive than some other places but at least my stuff isn't covered with dust. read more
