this has changed names to mall storage and literally you can smell the lack of maintenance that has been goin on since the takeover. the smell of rodents is overwhelming once you walk in the doors to the storage area now, whereas before didn't have the issue. look at other mall storage locations and see their poor reviews. this place was clean before. i had a 2 year agreement and no problems before the takeover. run away. extra space has uniys 1 mile east for half the cost. read more

This is not your typical self-storage facility! This place is immaculately clean and the air is fresh. The manager, Michelle, was extremely helpful in finding me an indoor storage unit that met my needs and budget. Michelle took me to the unit I rented, picking up minute pieces of paper and wrappers along the way. She was very polite and helpful filling out rental forms. Extra Space is a scam. They will quote you a rate, get you on autopay, and then raise your rate by 50% in 3 months hoping you'll just let the autopay continue to roll. When this happened to me, I decided to quickly empty my unit and say goodbye. Interestingly, the only other person in the facility when I was emptying my unit stopped me to ask "did they jack up your rates?" Extra Space clearly has a business model designed to bait and switch. I rent unit 1151. I get 2-3 rate increase notices a year. I started renting 3 years ago for $60/month for a small unit. The increases have now gone up to $107/month. This is absolutely absurd. The only reason this place has good reviews is the pressure customers into leaving a 5 star review on site while you are signing your contract. The facility is nice, but I'm getting off of this ride. Hope the increase was worth losing a customer over. read more

I am very disappointed with my experience with this storage facility. My first bad experience was I had a unit on the lower level. I loss thousands of dollars of my possessions due to mold. I had the insurance that is offered by extra storage. The policy excludes mold and therefore absolutely nothing was reimbursed! Camping gear, kids clothes, wood furniture, etc all lost! The manager then offered me a larger unit on the main level and offered to charge me the same rate of my smaller unit due to my loss. Now in just a year they doubled my rate so they completely went back on their word. I would never have taken the larger unit but now I'm expected to pay double the rate or move out. I also used to be able to pay for a year and then the rate would hold but now they make you pay monthly so they can hike up your rent whenever they choose. Don't recommend extra storage in Glen ellyn. The rate you pay will keep going up once they have you! read more

I was looking for a storage space close to my house at a reasonable monthly rate. My search led me to a business on North Main St in Glen Ellyn called Extra Storage Space. I had driven by this business dozens of times, but was unfamiliar with this brand since it's not one of the 'big' names in storage (at least as far as I knew). I reviewed there business online and saw they were very reasonably priced. I called to make sure they had available space and talked to Michelle. She was very pleasant and helpful. I stopped in to see the units for rent and was very happy with what I saw - clean and welcoming. Michelle gave me the tour, I picked out a unit and I was in my way in less than 15 minutes. All my contracts were online, so no paperwork to complete. If was a smooth and easy process. I would highly recommend Extra Storage Space on North Makn in Glen Ellyn. I own a small moving company and I refer my clients into storage units frequently for the past 30 years . Rented a unit for 6 months and have no complaints! No rate hike. Building feels secure. Facility was always super clean whenever we'd stop by. Karla is great! Always friendly and smiling. Clean, new facility but a couple months (literally 2-3 months) in and we already received notice of a $10 rate increase. Feel this is not a nice way to welcome new customers and potentially previous customers once my husband finds out the unforeseen increase so soon. Staff was pleasant and helpful. read more
