The earliest appointment available was approximately six weeks away, and my parents had to drive an hour to get there. The appointment was scheduled for 11:30 a.m. I arrived at 11:23 a.m. and informed the front desk that my mother was still on her way and would likely arrive about 10 minutes late. I also explained that, because of her disability, she needed additional time to walk from the parking area and take the elevator to the second floor. I specifically asked whether she could still be seen, and I was told that as long as she arrived by 11:45 a.m., it would not be a problem. The staff provided me with a tablet to begin completing her paperwork. While I was finishing it, my mother arrived. I briefly stepped outside to direct her where to go and left the tablet on the table. When I returned, the staff had already taken the tablet and informed me that the doctor would not see her, despite the fact that it was only 11:44 a.m. and she was literally walking into the office. After I explained the situation, one staff member indicated they would try to work her into the schedule, while another said the doctor had refused and that we would need to reschedule. We then spent another 10-15 minutes discussing the issue, during which time the appointment could likely have already begun. What is most frustrating is that I was initially told she would be seen if she arrived by 11:45 a.m., yet that commitment was not honored. Had I been told from the beginning that there was absolutely no flexibility, I could have made other arrangements or sought care elsewhere. My mother has a serious eye condition and now faces further delays in receiving treatment. Given her disability, age, and the effort required to attend the appointment, I expected a greater degree of understanding and accommodation. Unfortunately, our experience left us feeling that her circumstances were not taken into consideration.

When the assistant came in I asked, "Is that it? He didn't examine my eyes." She said, "Oh yes. He's really fast." And that was it. I was stunned. I didn't even know his name. I had to ask. It was Dr. Colletto. He didn't introduce himself or say hello or anything. He was in the room less than 5 minutes.

Honestly, I was treated very wonderfully by the staff and by Dr. Colletto! They were all caring and understanding especially with it being so cold outside this morning that I was shaking, and my GPS was of no help (you have to love Siri). Everyone there was kind, attentive, and very friendly. I didn't wait long to get taken back to get tests before Dr. Colletto came in and they were busy! Keep in mind for some of the negative reviews just because your appointment is scheduled for a certain time, doesn't always mean you get in at that exact minute. No type of doctor gets right in at the exact minute. I don't understand the negative reviews, because I found my new optometrist and I won't be changing! Honestly, it was a 10/10 experience for me or should I say 20/20?

Here's my…read moreupdated and response: Rebuttal to Dr. Dutson: Dr. Dutson, I am absolutely a former patient of your practice, and I stand by every word of my review. It's disappointing to see you respond not by addressing the concerns I raised, but by questioning whether I was ever a patient at all. That's not only false--it's a deflection from the real issue: I paid for new designer frames and was given used/demo ones from your display wall. I wasn't even provided the proper designer case they normally come with, just a generic one that didn't fit properly. That is not acceptable, and it certainly isn't ethical. You claim to have searched your patient database but couldn't verify me--yet somehow you sent me a private message on Yelp with direct contact info. That doesn't align. You also claim I would have responded if I were a real patient. I did not respond because I already attempted to contact your office directly before ever posting a review, and I was ignored. Only after leaving honest public feedback did I receive any acknowledgment. This pattern of dismissing concerns and redirecting the narrative is exactly what motivated me to leave a review. My intent was not to harm your business, but to protect future patients from the experience I had. That is the purpose of reviews. I hope you will take accountability rather than attempting to discredit dissatisfied patients. Charlotte.

This office refused unless I scheduled and paid for another appointment I do not need. They lost my entire household as patients today. Then I asked for my medical records so I could take my care somewhere that actually respects patients. They wanted $35 per chart and tried to pressure me into paying over the phone. When I said I needed the records today, the response from Haley was no promises, maybe 24 hours. Then the office manager bumped it to 48. Medical records belong to the patient. Charging predatory fees and slow-walking the release when someone is trying to leave your practice tells you everything about how this office operates. The DMV form refusal is a billing strategy dressed up as policy. Find a provider who is not running their front desk like a toll booth.

Dr. Coletto's office never did fix this so we had to pay out of pocket. We stopped going there because of this for a couple of years. Decided to give them another try and the issues continue. This time my son and I went for an eye exam. We both ordered contacts. Mine came in in about a week. My son's took a month. I kept calling and asking about them and kept being told they weren't in. Finally after a month I called and asked that they could give my son another trial pair of contacts as he had now been wearing his current pair for a month since the ones we ordered have taken so long to come in. I was put on hold and after a few minutes, the lady came back to the phone and stated that oh they had indeed found my son's contacts and I could come pick them up. How they all of a sudden found them when I asked for another free trial pair is pretty suspicious. Fast forward to this week, my husband goes for his eye exam. It is a disaster from the beginning. Apparently they have had a large turnover in their office employees and most are new (not at all shocked given the clown show this place is). The appointment took over an hour, no one knew what was going on, and to top it all off, my husband's debit card was double charged for his $70 copay. When I realized this the next day after checking our bank account, I called them to ask that the second duplicate charge be refunded. This was at 9:00 am. I was told the manager would have to call me back. 3:00 pm comes and I have still not received a call. I called back - had to call 3 times in a row because they don't answer their phone either. I was told they would write my name and number down and the manager would call me back. I told them we've already tried that and I need to speak to the manager now. I was put on hold and finally the "manager" got on the line and told me that she had spoken to Dr. Colletto at lunch and he said we have to wait 24-48 hours to ensure the double charged isn't just pending and actually gets posted. Now, I work in AR. I deal with pending and posted transactions every single day. I also know how to read my bank account which clearly states what is pending and what is posted. Both charges posted on 9/2. I offered to send the manager a copy of the statement to prove the charge was duplicated and posted and she said she would have to talk to Dr. Colletto "next time he walks by" to approve the refund. I told her she had until 5:00 pm and that if she didn't call me back I would file a dispute with my bank. She never called back. At 9:00 am today I decided to give them one more chance to do the honest and right thing so I called back. I was told the "manager" wouldn't be in the office until 2:30 and she is the ONLY person who can do refunds. I hung up and proceeded to file a dispute through my bank. I have also filed a complaint with the SC Board of Optometry and the SC Division of Consumer Affairs which I also told the lady on the phone this morning. She couldn't have cared less. No apology- nothing. Lo and behold at 12:30 my husband received a voicemail stating they are trying to refund him and need to speak with him. Too late. The dispute has been initiated. I guess the "manager" isn't the only one who can do refunds after all since the lady that called was not the manager I spoke to and it was before 2:30 when she was supposed to be in the office. This place is a joke and the most unprofessional medical office I have ever been in. Everyone should double check their bank statements too if you have paid for anything with them. Apparently they like to double charge patients without taking ownership of their mistake and trying to make it right without first giving people the runaround. I will be taking my business to a reputable optometrist from now own.
