The Doctor is nice and the staff is overall nice, but it has been over 2 weeks and My eyeglasses are not even finished yet. Dr Vipapan is overall quite good, but was pushing for me and my wife to both return for a repeat clinic visit to have our eyes dilated. As a physician, I know that it would be unlikely that he would see anything on a dilated eye exam when the non dilated exam is normal in 2 young healthy adults so this is basically a cash generating attempt. Moreover, I was irritated that the staff needed to unlock each cabinet for me to look through the selection of glasses every time. It took an extra 30 min for me to see the selection. I have been wearing glasses for 30 years and I have never experienced this nor have I ever waited over 2 weeks for my glasses to be done. Unacceptable, especially for an office with such great reviews. Addendum I initially gave these guys 1 star but I will bump it to 4 stars. The service is actually excellent and the glasses are perfect ( although it took 2.5 weeks for me and 4 weeks for my wife's glasses). The important factor is the overall quality if the glasses which is excellent and they offer free adjustments as needed. If don't need your glasses immediately, I would highly recommend this place as the Doctor and his staff are excellent. read more

They even give you advice in order to maximize your benefits. I don't live in the area anymore, but I drive here a few times a year for my eye check-up, contact refills and of course for their eyeglass selection. I discovered Dr. Vapipian after doing a yelp search when I moved to Pasadena eight years ago. I was looking for a new optometrist because the one I had gone to was much too far away after my move. I have to say that my family and I are very pleased with the excellent service that we receive from Dr. V and his staff. He is congenial, knowledgeable and just an all-around good optometrist and person. When I go there I feel like I'm not just going to my optometrist but to a second family. Dr. V makes you feel like you are a VIP patient. He takes his time to examine your eyes and explain to you the results. He has the technology to provide the best eye exams. His staff are just the most wonderful, friendly and best people you'll ever meet. Great optometrist-very thorough and accurate exam. He provided clear evidence for why I should switch to newer contact lenses without pressuring me. He also provided two different prescriptions for the new and old lenses and gave me time to decide which would be best. Also I called the day before and was able to get an appointment at the exact time I wanted. From that very first phone call, the customer service was EXTRAORDINARY. I usually don't review non-restaurants, but Eye Place Optometry is one-of-a-kind, especially if you're covered under insurance (mine was with Davis Vision). It's definitely one of the most thorough exams I've had, and unlike at other places where one can feel rushed, Dr. Vipapan makes one comfortable and - more importantly - well informed about their care. To resolve my dry eye issues, he offered multiple brands and types of contacts for trial, and there was never a push to purchase from the store. I had received my prescription from another location and came to Eye Place solely to buy frames/lens. The staff was helpful and always made sure to open the cases and let me try on whatever I wanted. I found a perfect pair of frames that I've always wanted! They thoroughly explained all of the lens and coating options and how they differ and helped me make the right decision based off of my VSP insurance. I LOVE my new glasses and the lens are so lightweight. The only reason I removed 1 star is due to the fact that my glasses took 3 weeks to come in. When they finally came in, they told me that the delay was due to the fact that the frames had been damaged and they had to re-order them. I would have appreciated a follow up call to let me know why it was taking so long (I had called at the 2 week mark and they let me know they weren't ready but couldn't provide any details). It wasn't urgent but they had originally told me 1-2 weeks so I would have liked at least an update. read more

Full disclosure: I don't Yelp. I receive bad service...I don't go back. I receive excellent service...I tell my people, and I return often. I make this exception, because I was desperate to find an optometrist who about my eyesight as much as I did and wasn't driven by profit motive. So, I searched here. I found the listing for Eye Place, and I was struck by all the positive reviews. I showed the page to my girlfriend, and she said, "Eye Place? Oh, yes! That's where I went for my last eye exam. They were great!" So, I called and made an appointment, but I still wasn't sold, because I have a very long history with one optometrist in Pasadena, and if you know the area, you know where I'm talking about. I was a customer there for over 30 years. Ever since the move to the latest place...no bueno. But, I digress...back to happier subjects! Dr. Vipapan gave me the best eye exam I've had in decades! Very patient...explained every step and what he was looking for...the best part was that he took my current set of glasses, measured the lens prescription from there, then sat me at a machine to measure my eyesight BEFORE I sat in the chair and looked at the eye charts! There was a marked difference between my eyeglass prescription and the prescription based on my actual sight. Now, the glasses he measured I got from someplace outside of Pasadena, but I know the last pair of Pasadena glasses I got would be closer to reality, but not ideal. When he was done, I had a sense of confidence and relief about my new glasses that I literally haven't had since the mid 1990's. Then, we get to the optician. Mindy is the best. Hands down. No comparison. No equal. Knowledgeable, gregarious, patient, funny, thorough, energetic...if you need an example of a person who enjoys their job and projects that feeling to her clients, it's her. I completely lost track of time and could have been there another hour and not noticed. It takes a very special person to make choosing frames and lenses an entertaining experience, and she's it. I realize the double-edged sword with writing a review like this is the threat of popularity. It was a week and a half before I could get an opening before this review. Amazing! I don't think I've ever felt the need to get an optometry place and their workers 5 stars before. Just a heads up, they do fill up fast, so make sure you call in advance for an appointment. From the moment I called to make an appointment, I had the best service. The receptionist took my information over the phone so I wouldn't have to deal with it when I went in. Upon my arrival, I filled out a quick form with my medical history and current information. Dr. V was also terrific. I happen to be thai... but a failed thai because I am very limited in my abilities to communicate. Not a problem, he made me feel comfortable and didn't push me to speak thai. He took his time with my appointment to make sure the prescription was correct, as well as cross referencing it with my current lenses. Althought the rx was different, he didn't push me to get new glasses unless I wanted to. I got exactly what I wanted, an updated prescription for my contacts. When I went out to pay for my contacts, they explained what my insurance covered and how it worked so I left very informed about my insurance. If you're looking for a new optometrist, I would absoloutely recommend this place. There is parking out front- however it is metered. Seriously the nicest people you will have checking your eyes. I have been going here for years, along with my daughter. Other doctors told her she would never be able to wear contacts. Thanks his was my first eye exam for a couple of years. Decided to try this place because of the great reviews even though I have to wait almost 2 weeks for the next appointment. This was well worth the wait. It turns out that my previous doctor over prescribed my left eye. It was a little tricky since my left eye was toric. Dr. Vipapan decreases my left eye .25 and changed my toric also. Now it is clearer and more comfortable. read more

Really nice eye place on South Lake. I was initially going to go to another doctor but that doctor got sick and couldn't see me in another two weeks. So I went on yelp and found this place and was able to make an appointment for the next day. Receptionist was very friend over the phone and in person. No pressure to buy anything after the exam. They checked my insurance (VSP) and called back to confirm my appointment the very same day I made it. Dr. V is a very soft spoken and kind person and he was very thorough with my eye exam. Parking can be a hassle as it shared with the other businesses in Shopper Lane so try to make an appointment before or after lunch hours, or else you will be searching for parking for awhile. Overall, I'm pleased with finding Dr V and his staff and look forward to my yearly appointment. I highly recommend this place!! read more

I LOVE EYE PLACE OPTOMETRY! Dr. Vipapan is the best optometrist ive ever been to! he's very thorough and takes his time to explain everything to you in ways that are really easy to understand. He is super nice and super patient. Most places are concerned about getting you in and out as quickly as possible, but not here! you really feel like the doctor cares for you and the well-being of your eyes.
