I absent mindedly scratched my cornea pretty terribly at 4pm the Friday before 4th of July weekend. Jenny was kind enough to squeeze me in that afternoon, before they closed for the holiday weekend. Dr. Jacobs deserves many thanks. I have very dry eyes and my old daily contacts (prescribed by my former eye doctor) were no longer comfortable after a couple hours every day. Dr. Jacobs was so committed to helping me that he remained patient through seven different lens trials until I found a suitable one! I really appreciated his can-do attitude. He told me that we would continue trying lenses until I found one that was comfortable, and we did. He also recommended an over-the-counter nighttime ointment for my eyes and provided me with a coupon for it. Fortunately, between the ointment and the new lenses, I'm able to wear contacts from morning until evening without pain. This practice is very disappointing. While Dr Jacobs is a competent provider his staff is subpar and off-putting. They refused to explain my insurance benefits to me in a clear way before my exam and then told me that I had wasted too much of their time and would not see me before taking a patient that came in after me. It is almost as if they purposely want their pricing system to be confusing because they are hiding something. They were difficult this way last year and I decided to give them another chance because I liked Dr. Jacobs even if his staff was frustrating. The thanks I got today for my loyalty was that Dr. Jacobs personally refused to serve me and made me wait until the patient scheduled after me, as if to punish me for asking questions. I am livid and this just confirms my suspicions that the poor service is mandated from the top. Very disappointing. read more

I bought a pair of prescript. sunglasses with my vision plan. My glasses came in and the lenses were backwards. (If you turn them upside down they were good.) This optometrist hemmed and hawed and was obviously angry because of the mistake and it seemed like he was going to kick me out of the store as I sought to find a solution to my problem. I supposed he realized his loss of a profit and therefore could stop being cordial to me? I've never seen someone behave so poorly when confronted with a blatant mistake on their part. Very nice doctor, doesn't force you to do tests you can't do (due to nervous issues or other reasons), lets you retake part of the "Number 1... or number 2?" test if you feel the result isn't quite right, and genuinely wants your eyes to be their best. I found some lovely frames from their fairly limited selection, and I can admit I have not seen this well in over 5 years. Very happy with the choice to come here. I just had an eye exam a few months ago at another optometrist, but left unhappy. During my exam I was never able to see as well as I know is possible, but was basically told that my eyes were degrading. I decided to see Dr. John with a clean slate (not bringing my previous prescription) and I couldn't be happier. He took his time during the exam and I left feeling confident that my new prescription was correct. As someone with a really strong astigmatism it was reassuring to hear "Wow, you've got a strong astigmatism!" instead of "Do you have an astigmatism?" The staff was polite and the woman who helped me with frames (I believe her name was Janet) helped me find a stylish pair of frames that wouldn't be distorted by my astigmatism. Dorothy is awesome!!! She's very friendly and has this positive energy that I like. The other two doctors are professional but she brings in the service. I went in one day with broken glasses and I wanted to see how much it would cost to fix. It was free. That motivated me so much to actually schedule an appointment. She called the day before to remind me and greeted me when I came in. She was like... I have the glasses that you like! It made me so happy. Then when I came back in to pick it up she was even happier when she put it on me. And I was like, yes, that's why I was so excited about these glasses. They fit like a glove and were super comfy. They have high tech machines and got my prescription so accurate. The only gripe that I have with this place is that they are always recommending the same Ophthalmologist which I heard from many people isn't great at all. Which kinda makes me question their affiliation with him. But hey, if you are there for glasses and a standard eye exam, definitely the place to go to. Would I go to again... yup. I went today looking for my glasses he said he sent out on Saturday. I live in the South Bay area, and coming from Wilshire should not take that long. Come to find out it was a fake label made, once I went to his shop and confronted him about the fake label fir tracking my glasses, and that need my glasses to work, he got aggressive because I called him out for lying. So he got very arrogant and claimed I threatened him which is crazy. Very manipulative person call the police saying get out of his business he feels threaten. I left because I'm a lady and professional, later he send a text stating if you are so intelligent you would see the glasses were shipped. I notice a new tracking number on the package and it was sent Tuesday afternoon, not Saturday and they attempted to deliver but he knew I was at work today. Now he wanted to stop communicating because I'm far from stupid. I sent him a screenshot of both tracking numbers. Proving he lied. My insurance company reversed the pending payment they were going to give him due to his fraudulent and they can see he was price gouging me and them. He don't expect people to stand up to him and he thinks he is privileged. He rude, arrogant, a bully and a liar and narcissistic behavior. I'll never ever go back. Good luck if you do. And get your receipt. He refused to give me a copy of my receipt of charges or my Prescription. Keep it we are done. read more

I would not recommend this office as their customer service skills are poor... I went there to have an annual eye exam. while my exam went well and the doctor was courteous and discussed any issue he saw with my exes, the resulting experience was not pleasant. After receiving my prescription, I order my contact lenses. I was told they would arrive in 3 days and I would receive a notification text upon arrival. Three days arrived and I did not receive a notification. Understanding that there might be a delay, I waited for 2 weeks. After 2 weeks, I still had not heard from them so I went to the office and asked for a status of the lenses I ordered. The receptionist was rude and in a dismissive tone asked me if I got a notification from them that it was ready. I said no , she then indicated that I should not have come to their office then. She mentioned that the lens can take longer than three days and I should wait for them to call me. Please know that she did not take the time to look into why my contact lenses had not arrived, she just dismissed me with a generic answer. I left the office then later in the day, I got a text from their office that my lens were on backorder. I was frustrated at this point as when I took the time to physically go into their office, she could have taken the time to look into my file to tell me that my lens were on backorder instead of rudely dismissing me. This would have allowed me to cancel my order or make other preparations. Furthermore they did not call me to tell me how long until they were no longer on backorder or offer me some lens for the interim time period until the box of lens I ordered arrived. Disappointed in my experience, I informed a friend of mine who had visited the office and had a pleasant experience about my situation. Concerned she called their office to let them know in hopes that they would show me some nice regard to smooth over my frustration. My friend just provided my name and said I did not have a pleasant experience there.. the receptionist then started to provide my personal detail to my friend. Explaining that I had ordered contact lenses and that they had been backordered etc. This was a violation of my privacy. My medical information should never be exposed to someone calling and providing my name. My friend even instructed them not to tell her my business...Luckily this was disclosed to my friend. What if it had been someone else? .. I then went by the office to pick up my contact lenses that had finally arrived 3 wks later and the doctor and receptionist accused me of bad mouthing their office and spoke to me in a defensive and argumentative tone, never apologizing for their rude behavior or for disclosing my personal detail to someone over the phone.. I am very disappointed with my experience here and will not use this office again. This was my first time using this office and it will be my last! read more

Dr. Jacobs is an awesome doctor, he took the time to explain all the different tests and what the results were and what that means to me in laymens terms. All the while chatting with me about my interests to keep me calm and make me feel comfortable. The office is beautiful, and very clean, their eye glass selection is awesome, he had so many great frames it was hard to choose. I am also a first time contact lenses wearer and he was patient and took the time to teach me how to put them in, take them out, and clean them properly. He even called me a few days after my appointment to check and see how everything was going and if i had any questions or concerns. This is an overdue Yelp review...I was reminded I needed to post a great review because it's time for an eye exam again. I went to Eye See Optometry last year for an eye exam. My husband and I went together, and while my husband was getting his exam done, I was helped by Karen in the front with sunglasses. I must have tried on 40 different pairs of glasses! She was so honest and helpful with her opinion....she let me know which framed my face well while which were not so flattering. I ended up getting a pair of sunglasses. The eye exam was also amazing. I have had several eye exams in the past. The equipment was new and looked to be state of the art. Dr. Jacobs was amazing and really took the time to explain everything he was doing and why. I remember feeling so great about the experience. I'm actually not dreading going back for an exam this year! Overall, I would highly recommend that anyone visit for an eye exam or even for a new pair of sunglasses. They had a huge retail selection of top brands, so that was definitely a plus! read more

I recently moved to LA and was looking for a good optometrist so I decided to try this place out on the basis of its solid Yelp reviews. I wasn't disappointed. Dr. Jacobs really is as great as the reviews say. He gave me one of the most thorough eye exams that I've ever received and was able to answer all of the questions I had. I was particularly impressed because he is the first optometrist who has ever asked me to try on two different pairs of contact lenses in order to examine the fit. I will definitely be back there next year for my eye examine and would encourage anyone looking for a good optometrist to give Dr. Jacobs a try! They accept VSP Vision Insurance so my total co-pay for the exam was $70. read more

I'm very pleased with my experience here. I made an appointment for my first visit and didn't have to wait at all upon arrival. Dr. Jacobs and his receptionist were both incredibly friendly. I had the typical check-up to renew my contacts prescription, and Dr. Jacobs gave me some helpful advice about eye care (e.g., avoiding cheaply-made sunglasses) that I found pretty useful. I later found that the brand I renewed for was getting really uncomfortable, so I dropped by the office a few months later and Dr. Jacobs was willing to see me within a half-hour, without an appointment. I eventually decided to change the type of contacts I was using (even though I'd purchased a year's supply), and Dr. Jacobs switched out all the remaining boxes, no questions asked. I decided to go to Dr. John Jacobs for an eye examination because I was unhappy with the current lenses I was first prescribed. During the exam, Dr. Jacobs found an abnormality that my previous doctor had not detected and referred me to a top of the line retina specialist. Additionally, his wife, Karen, spent a great deal of time with me to help me find the version of lens that work best for me. They both took a great deal of time and care to answer all of my questions. Not only do I have a great pair of lenses that are working wonderfully for my needs, I am also working on the issue of my eye abnormality. I had my first visit today. Dr. Jacobs is really friendly, gentle, laid back and also very professional. The eye exam was really easy and straight forward. He was patient throughout the entire process. His staff is also really great. After our exam, they helped me pick out frames and gave me their opinions on what looked best on me. I had to go back to work right after so Jacobs suggested that I come back another day to do my full dilation so that I wouldn't have to work for the rest of the day and drive home that way. My insurance covers this so he told his staff that when I'm ready to come back, it would be okay to do it at the end of the day so that I can drive home once it's dark. I chose this place for proximity and these reviews really helped me to pull the trigger and try this place out. Can't really imagine a better experience. It's right next to Black Dog Coffee. I had an eye exam here and ordered my contacts afterwards. They told me that I could come and collect them in 3 business days. More than 3 days passed and I kept calling to see if they had arrived. I was leaving for vacation and called desperately once more only and was told that they would call me back to pick up the contacts. I NEVER received a call back and tried going in the next day only to discover they were closed on a Saturday they should have been opened. I ended up having to go somewhere else to get another eye exam I didn't need just to get my contacts before my vacation. Had to pay $170 out of pocket. A ridiculous level of unprofessionalism was displayed. I'm never coming back here. read more

I have been going to Dr. Jacobs and Eye See Optometry since 2015. I found out earlier this year that they incorrectly billed my insurance which ended up unnecessarily costing me hundreds of dollars out-of-pocket*. When I went to their office they refused to give me reprinted receipts. I requested these so that I can research the incorrect claims and be specific in what I would ask them to resubmit - I had to insist to get even a few. One of the women who works there - I think her name is Janet or Janice was unnecessarily rude (again**). When I wanted to talk to Dr. Jacobs himself about his rude staff, he refused to see me - even for 5 minutes. All I wanted to say was that I wish his staff would be more helpful especially in light of a problem. Brittany who works there was helpful; She printed out some receipts and handed them to me before I was encouraged to leave because they had patients (am I not a patient of Dr. Jacobs?) and told me to "come back on Monday." Like many - Monday is the start of my work week, and cannot come see them. I am disappointed to learn that this doctor was not in the slightest bit helpful when something went wrong. The sad part is that the insurance claims/billing portion is a fixable issue, but the fact that this doctor and one of his staff couldn't care less about me as a person today, much less a returning customer who has referred at least two patients. All they needed to do was print out a few receipts - or email them to me - and make copies of the claims they submitted - or email them to me. Instead when I asked for copies of my bills I was told "no" several times and that they will "deal with this on Monday." Keep in mind, I was already there - physically in the office and up until the point in which that lady was rude to me, I truly felt that though the mistake was a major and costly mistake, that it was an honest one. Today they made a decision that keeping a repeat customer/patient by taking a couple minutes out to give me some paperwork was not a priority for them. Up until today, Dr. Jacobs was a great person to deal with. But let me ask you this - when a problem surfaces, do you want someone who is willing to help you? Do you want someone who can at least feign like they feel bad about a billing mistake that ended up costing you hundreds of dollars? Today, I realized that I definitely expect a doctor's office to take the time out help me. I deserve that much. **Regarding Janet or Janice - She took great pleasure in telling me "no" repeatedly today. But this isn't the first time she was rude. She constantly talks over me when I call or when I'm there. There have been several times when I have tried to ask a question - but she interrupts before I've even completed the question! Then I have to ask the question again, and maybe then another time depending on if she lets me finish my sentence. In the end it took the office manager LONGER than "Monday" to get in touch with me and I ended up going to a different place for my services who fixed the issue with insurance and agreed that this office should have been more diligent towards their customers' insurance claims. read more

Yesterday I had THE most thorough eye exam I have ever had in the 10 years of history I have been receiving optometric care. Dr. Jacobs explained absolutely everything as he did it, and was able to put it into terms that the every day individual can understand. I was a few months over my annual check-up and he put me at ease knowing my eyes were absolutely okay. He was patient, reassuring, and used our one-on-one time with a fantastic quality of care. The entire staff is so knowledgeable and will take time away from whatever they are doing to ensure you understand everything from prescriptions to insurance information. The COVID regulations that have in place, as well, made me feel comfortable and safe, and confirmed that they care about each and every patient. I live in Long Beach, and I will gladly make the drive to LA anytime for the care of Dr. Jacobs. Not to mention, the glasses selection is lovely, and they take time to look at your face to help pick what works for you, so you don't have to worry about spending 45 minutes trying on every pair. The Doctor is alright but his staff is completely unprofessional and has terrible customer service. Every time I've called the office they've just been completely rude and seem to have zero patience for someone simply trying to ask questions about their prescriptions. When I went in for my first appointment I ended up waiting for almost an hour and a half to even be seen by the doctor because of the receptionist couldn't figure out my insurance. They also overcharge for contacts and glasses, I was able to find my contacts (same brand and prescription) at other places for over $100 cheaper. Dr. Jacobs has been my phenomenal optometrist for the last few years. I'd switched to him because I did not appreciate my previous optometrists' beside manner. With Dr. Jacobs, however, I am always seen promptly, he is always warm and jovial and takes time to answer any and all questions that I may have without feeling rushed. He has eased a lot of fears I'd harbored regarding my eyes due to wearing such a high perscription and I've even brought my son to see him for his own visit which was also a breeze. I was in need of finding an eye doctor in Los Angeles now that I've been living here for a few years now. Dr. Jacobs was super professional and really kind, and the front desk staff was really personable. I was able to get a thorough eye exam with all of my questions answered and I even switched to daily contact lenses as a result of gaining great insight from him. My lenses arrived in less than a week and they also provided me with an eye dilation procedure to check my entire retina and its nerves.
