Never thought stories like this exist anymore... Walked up to this store 5 minutes after they were supposed to close. As I was approaching the door, the owner (then I learned - his name's Mike) was locking the door, and I was expecting the usual shoulder shrug, like sorry, we're closed. I was trying to fix my glasses that had the little screw lost, hence the glass was constantly falling out (what a pain!) from one side. And I never get a chance to get off work early enough to find a store that's open to help me fix that. So I was pleasantly surprised that Mike opened the door and invited me in. I told him that I wasn't planning on buying anything, just needed a small fix, so I felt bad to bother him from going home on time. Mike told me not to worry and get in. He took my glasses, put in a brand new screw and fixed the other side as well, plus did the frame adjustment. The frame was horrible due to multiple falls and "sit ons" that it experienced over its lifetime. So I was ready to pull out at least a $50 for service. And to my surprise, he wouldn't take a dollar. Well, I told him, I do need another eye exam soon and the new pair of glasses, so he promised to match pricing even though I was always shopping for eyewear at Walmart before. Overall a very rare these days experience of good ol' local comradery. Just like it used be. This is now my new one stop shop for eyewear, no doubt! Will recommend to everyone I know! read more

I dropped off a pair of sunglasses to be repaired. Came back in a few days later and my glasses were returned to me like new. Not only did they do a great job but they gave them back to me free of charge! I was pleasantly surprised. Definitely earned my business that day and I will definitely be referring my friends in the future. Gotta warn you, the parking here can be a pain, but well worth it for the service. I had been carrying around a prescription for new glasses for a few months because I didn't like the glasses at the place I had my eye exam at. I was looking for very specific glasses at the time and did not find them there. Instead I stopped by here randomly after having dinner in the area. As soon as I walked in we were greeted. We told them that we wanted to look around and they weren't pushy. I wanted to look at the different frames they had and then they there were. The specific frames I had been looking for, Ray Ban "LiteForce". Many of the stores I had went to a handful of different optometrists and no one had these. I picked up the glasses and went up to the counter and was greeted by the most wonderful lady. She was so helpful as I explained to her that I already had an eye prescription and that I only wanted the frames. At first she gave me the pricing which was going to be around 400+ without insurance. I then told her I had the basic VSP Insurance and she looked it up for me and my total ended being 200+ instead. We put the order in for my glasses and then I was all done. In less than a week I got a call from them saying my glasses were ready. When I went back they had me try on my glasses and asked if they needed any adjustments. They then told that if my glasses didn't fit right to bring them back whenever I wanted and they would adjust them. Thank you for such an awesome experience. read more

They are covered under my insurance, so it wasn't too bad. The optometrist is cute and answered all my questions. Pregnant since I last went, but glowing... My out of pocket was $176, which will be covered by my FRA. Their frames selection has changed a bit since last year and I wasn't able to duplicate what i got previously. So, I am now waiting for my new frames and will take my old ones in for them to repair when I get the new ones. Will see how that goes. Update then?? read more

Dr. Yan is amazing, one of the best Optometrists I've been to, answers any questions you may have and gives a thorough exam. Would not recommend. The doc was pretty good, if a tad dour. The frame selection is pretty good; they have a nice selection of designer frames to choose from if money is no object. There is also a case of sale frames to choose from. Aside from that, the upsell in this place is just too much. I hate working with people who work on commission. Good customer service involves being UP FRONT about charges and prices. Don't let somebody spend an hour picking out a pair of frames, write up the order, swipe the credit card and THEN tell them that "The frame you picked out does not allow us to give you the discount as allowed by your insurance company". WTF? Why didn't you tell us that up front? It would have saved us tons of time, and we would have picked out another frame. Instead we cancelled the order. Also, I asked for the contact prescription so I can order them on line. They hesitated and said "Well, you won't find them cheaper"....LOL...wanna bet? I'm not a newbie when it comes to buying glasses and contacts. The only way I would get them here is if they price matched a lower price that I found online. Also, they have a hard time adjusting your glasses here. Mine were so bad that I went over to Lenscrafters in Fashion Island to have them adjusted. Eyestyles is nice, they definitely have great selection and are pretty accomodating in getting you in shortly. The reason for 3 stars is they SO oversell. I am aware that in the eyewear and dental business most practitioners work on commission, but no where was this more evident than at Eyestyles. It overshadowed every other part of the experience. When I didn't want to pay for extra screening for glaucoma, etc. (I was 30 at the time of my first appt) they re-asked me "just to make sure" 3 additional times. The upselling was worse than a nail salon - every detail I was offered something more. What bugged me the most though, was that when my glasses were broken, I went in to re-order and no offer of a discount or anything UNTIL I mentioned going to Costco. I then got a long lecture about how poor the quality is at Costco, but an offer to match their price on the lenses. Well, I decided to buy my replacement at Costco. My original pair was $208 AFTER insurance (Progressive bi-focal w/anti-glare) at Eyestyles. My Costco pair was $227 TOTAL (no insurance) and it was identical to above PLUS transitions lenses. I noticed no quality difference. I'd go back to Eyestyles as I still have the same insurance, and would negotiate better EXCEPT I just don't have the energy to deal with the non-stop sales pitch. I get it - more $ = better quality. Maybe tone down the sales pitch a bit, because I am willing to pay more for expertise and service - but this was a bit over the top for me. read more

Okay, my last eye exam was about four years ago (somewhere else...not here) and all I remembered was the eye dilation part (horrible, blinding experience). I was traumatized because I knew I needed new glasses but didn't want to deal with not being able to drive, or even see for that matter. Well, a girl that I used to work with (I just quit my job for those of you who don't know me...long story) heard me complaining about how I needed glasses because somehow my driving glasses now worked as reading glasses and I was pretty sure the lenses hadn't magically changed. She said she went to the best eye place (Eye Styles) and told me to ask for Mike, who would hook me up. So, I drove over there and they were soooo nice! They were playing 80's hairband music (Poison, Warrant, etc) and as cheesy as it sounds, it actually made the atmosphere really fun. Anyway, I asked for Mike and he was awesome. He had me fill out some paperwork and then a lady with blond hair (I forgot her name...sorry) did my exam. She told me that they have this new camera thing that replaces dilation for only $20 more. Of course I chose the camera thing. Well, my eye exam was completely painless and the doctor (Dr. Robert Glass) came in right away. I didn't have to sit around waiting forever. He was really friendly and nice. He looked at my results and told me that I had become nearsighted, as well as had an astigmatism, which was why my driving glasses now worked as reading glasses. He explained all kinds of things which I never knew (and would take forever to tell you) but I finally learned how my eyes work. After the exam, Mike helped me again and we picked out frames. He was so incredibly patient. I must have tried on over 50 pairs of glasses (I needed two pairs...one for reading and one for driving). He knew I was not made of money and tried to steer me towards the generic frames (I was shocked because most places try to upsell!). Well, I don't know if he was trying to use reverse-psychology, but it worked because I ended up buying a pair Dolce & Gabbana frames and a pair of Bulgari frames. Now, I don't know if it is because I was referred to him or maybe he is just really nice, but he gave me 50% OFF MY EXAM and 50% OFF MY SECOND PAIR OF FRAMES!!!!! (The second pair of frames [the Dolce & Gabbana] were originally $300 and I got them for $150!!! I won't tell you what the Bulgari ones were....but I'm glad Top Ramen is cheap since that is all I'll be eating for a while). And I was so excited to get them that they put a rush on them (at no charge) and I had them in less than a week. I LOVE being able to see now!!! I don't know if he'll do the same for you, but it can't hurt to ask. If you need glasses (or contacts or anything having to do with eyes), definitely go here. Be sure to ask for Mike and tell him Michele (the blond girl who was referred by Sara) sent you. Tell him you want the same discount! And let me know what happens! read more

How can you NOT love an optometrist whose name is Dr Glass. Talk about a calling...getting your glasses from Dr. Glass! A star for being unintentionnaly witty! Dr. Glass actually found out that the glasses I currently use are too strong for me now and solved that mystery as to why I'd get headaches if I had my glasses on for too long. He also did bring up the topic of contacts, but there wasn't any pressure into getting them since I really didn't need them (he suggested a pair for weekend wear so I wouldn't have to use the glasses when going out at night...I reassured him that after a trip to the bar, I usually can't see straight anyway, so it was a moot point). Also, the guy out front (didn't get his name) was helpful when picking out frames, steering me clear from a pair that apparently "made my face look sad"... guess that's a lot better than him telling me they made me look fat, so that's definitely a plus there! read more

I saw the Groupon for this place and after reading all the positive Yelp reviews I purchased it. I went in today for my appointment and had a great experience! I saw Dr. Spurling for the eye exam and she was very friendly and answered all of my questions(and I had quite a few!). Since the Groupon gave me $150 towards a new pair of frames I then went on the hunt. I really wanted to write this review for Flora. She is who helped me find my frames. She was so sweet and patient with me. I must have tried on over 20 different frames asking her opinion about every one (multiple times to be honest). She was so helpful and really made me feel like I wasn't being overly picky which I probably was. Even when the store got a little busy with people walking in to shop around she never made me feel rushed. I would definitely recommend this place. The people were nice but when you pay cash for something and you tell them you cant see, but they tell you to try them for a few days and you still cant see you should get your money back. But they would only give me 500 dollars in store credit. What am I going to do with credit from a place that cant get my prescription right? I bought a pair of polarized Oakley Tungsten Crosshairs and wanted lenses, now. Oakley wanted $400 and 14 days which wasn't acceptable, and everyone else wanted 7-10 days; which still wasn't acceptable. Most places use the same lab/s to get work done, which is why you'll notice that they all have roughly the same turnaround times. So, I ended up calling this place. They actually have their own lab, and product stock. If you have ever looked around for custom tinted lenses, you'll know that this is pretty rare. The person I spoke with was extremely helpful. I told her which glasses I had, and told her that I'd prefer a matching lens, but would settle for black; and I told her I wanted them immediately. She calls me back, tells me they have matching stock, and can do the job within 2 hours. The lenses are almost an identical match, and I don't think I'm sacrificing quality from what I would have got from Oakley. Not only were my lenses done in 2 hours, but it only cost me around $150. In fact, the polarization is easier on my eyes than the stock Oakley lenses. Two weeks later I took a solid hit in the face with my glasses on. They were still under warranty from Oakley, and I was tempted to take them back. Instead, I took them to HQ, because they guys said they could fix them. The lenses weren't scratched, but the frames were warped. The guys there did an ok job, but as I continued to drive home, the less satisfied I became. I decided to stop here as a last resort, before taking my glasses back to the Oakley store. Again, they exceeded my expectations. They adjusted my frames, and they fit better now than they did when I first bought them; which probably means that my face is crooked. I cannot rate the quality of the doctor here, as I had my prescription done elsewhere. Also, I have rated this place as inexpensive because of the time/money saved here as opposed to going with Oakley. read more

Had a great experience at this place. Receptionist/Pre-eye exam tests- Super helpful/friendly staff, I think this place did a good job hiring people that can work cohesively together. I normally hate those vision tests where the machine blows into your eyes but the person that helped me (female, young, brown hair) was pretty good at her job being able to ease me through everything. She was pretty eager to help/give advice on the whole process. Eye Exam- I would say at least 50% of the eye exams I've been in, the optometrist has had difficulties finding my prescription. 25% of the time, after I get my glasses, I'm super dizzy trying to adjust and end up not using my glasses. Dr. Glass was highly knowledgeable and didn't give me the run around trying to upsell me anything I didn't need. Process took maybe a quick 20 mins and I'm pretty pleased with my prescription. I would definitely go back to him for an exam. Frame Selection- I would say the selection they have is at least above average being that they actually had some Tom Ford stuff. It's not the latest line so I was slightly disappointed that I couldn't find a pair of Tom Ford's but they have sufficient inventory to fit anyone's face, price was reasonable. Also, I believe the lab was in-house so it took me maybe 3 days to get my frames back. Pretty quick for High Index + Anti- Reflective lenses. Mike was probably one of my favorite people there, super funny, really good at his job. I think he deals with the more technically stuff with the lenses/frames maybe? An experience at Eye Styles will make your day. I wandered into the place in the mid afternoon, the sun was burning my corneas and street signs were blurry. I knew I needed prescription sunglasses but I was also afraid to shell out the dough...being that I'm uninsured. Well, I got an eye exam, incredible service and a hip pair of Carolina Herrera sunglasses in my prescription all for under $400. YES. When I got my new shades two days later, my vision was blurred...not because the shades were bad but because my eyes were welling up with tears of joy at how amazing my new sunglasses were and how kindly the people at Eye Styles treated me! I feel back home again! After a 10-year absence, my insurance included Eye Styles and they are just as great and consistent as my experience before. Dr.Glass has been my barometer OD over the years, and since he wasn't available when my schedule opened, I was hesitant. Plus, I didn't realize I would be fighting with the terrible OC Fair traffic (1st day) and it was a hot day. Checked in, great reception staff...warm and friendly and go beyond traditional customer service (like Nordstrom). I was impressed they still had my info and really feel they are more of an advocate to their customers than a go-with-the-flow demeanor with the insurers. My OD experience: He was very attentive...since I had a complex situation, he recommended I have my eyes dilated. I felt the opposite of feeling rushed and appreciated his thoroughness. It was especially difficult to see things near, including data on my cell phone so I was there for a while. When it came time for selecting frames, Morgan helped me narrow the search making sure the frame fit on my face properly and attractive. Did not make the final selection as I wanted my fiance's input, but will post a follow-up. The overall experience diluted a few things like parking and being their over 3 hours due to my eyes being dilated. Fortunately, there is a Starbucks a few stores down and the nominal cost for refills helped deal with the heat, time, and stamina. read more

I always drive by this place so i decided to go in to get some new frames and lenses. It seems most people have a problem with this place due to the prices. If you don't have insurance then, yeah, I'd pass over this place. They have a lot of nice frames but it was hard to find frames that were less than $150. I have insurance so it wasn't too bad. The girl who was helping me was friendly and not overly bearing with upselling. Even though i didn't get any of the lens upgrades (tint, polycarbonate,etc.) , she still threw in a %20 discount. Your results may vary, but I was hella flirting with her so who knows. Ended up with $195 frames and paying $58. I just went, so if anything comes up when i get my glasses, I'll be sure to update. But so far so good. UPDATE: So i got a call yesterday saying my glasses were ready and I went to pick them up. I upped them to 5 stars. Less than 2 days. Definitely going back. read more

I was meeting a friend at Starbucks yesterday and having just broke my prescription sunglasses the previous weekend, I wandered over to Eye Styles a couple doors down to see if I could get a new pair. I have never been in before and the place had a stylish vibe with a nice selection but as soon as I asked to see a frame that was behind a counter, a rude woman snapped at me that she was in the middle of something and I would have to wait. Since there wasn't anyone else in the store, I figured whatever she was doing was obviously more important to helping me. I was just about to leave when a pretty brunette (Natalie) came in from her lunch break and was extremely helpful in helping me pick out some new frames. I haven't ordered them yet, but I will surely be back to order them from her. I am giving Eye Styles one star for their nice selection and one star for Natalie. read more

Eyestyles has THE worst customer service and is extremely expensive. I went in based upon a recommendation from a coworker and got an exam. They prescribed me contacts and told me to try them out. I went in about two weeks later saying the lenses they prescribed me were blurry and made my eyes dry, therefore wanted something different. The changed the prescription and gave me different lenses, but they charged me again for a second exam! Naturally I had to pay for this out of pocket because my benefits only cover one exam a year. Because their prices were astronomical and it would have cost me almost $400 to get new lenses with my SAME frames, I called back another time asking them to fax my prescription over to Lenscrafters. The first woman I talked to complained that she was busy and it would take 30 minutes. 50 minutes later I called back and a different woman answered that was extremely rude to me when I let her know I was waiting for the fax. She said she could not fax over my prescription to Lenscrafters due to HIPAA laws, then proceeded to call that Lenscrafters and yell at the employee who was helping me as I was standing there. Absolutely ridiculous and I will be sure to tell everyone I know how awful they are. read more

Competency for the win. The screw holding the right arm of my sunglasses sheared in half. Took my Raybans to three places (all at The Block) and no one could extract the screw from the frame, presumably because they're morons. I then proceeded to go to Eye Styles and the manager (I think he was the manager) extracted the screw in 3 minutes. He then cleaned and fitted my lens back in at no charge. "Not a big deal" he says. I didn't even shake his hand... all I did was thanked him and left. I feel like a jerk so I wrote this review to make up for it. I found my new Optometrists, Dr. Willey. She's a fellow UC grad and she's super sweet and nice. Everyone that works here is actually nice and they're pretty quick which is nice for people that are in a rush. This place closes at 7 which always gives me plenty of time after work to drop by and pick up some new contacts. If u need glasses or contacts drop by this place and get an eye exam. read more

Dr. Glass is great! I originally went in for a medical concern a few years ago. He gave me drops and glasses and went back for the correct pair of contacts for my eyes. He explained to me the what and why of my problem. Since then I lost my vision insurance and tried other doctors that were less expensive and found the same starting because the doctor gave me the wrong prescription for contacts. I went back to Dr. Glass and he told me that I had been given the wrong prescription and brand to use. The staff worked with me on pricing so that I could afford my visit and new contacts. Everyone there is always so nice and helpful. I will not go to another doctor, even if that means I have to commute! read more

Mike told me to come in after he had his lunch in about 30 minutes. I was so pleasantly surprised with the doctor, the staff and the selection of frames that I've referred family and friends. They are very thorough, knowledgeable, and courteous. The location is easy to See, the parking is a bit more challenging. There is a Starbucks in the same lot so with a little bit of patience you will see your way to an open spot!! read more

So, I finally got a chance to go back here in the attempt to schedule an appointment and finally get my glasses. I was super psyched to get it going because I have been waiting for so long to get them. That psyched feeling quickly turned into disappointment. The girl who had helped me before who was really awesome apparently no longer works there and instead of the feeling that I had the first time I had gone in (that the people who work here care about their customers needs), I was treated as if I was a nuisance and that the girls who work there were way too busy with other, non-apparent things to help me. It was very off putting. I can now see why Jenna would say they treat you like a lower class citizen. It felt like they were doing me a favor by even talking to me at all. Maybe it's all in the hiring, who knows...Seems to me though like they lost their one nice sales girl, and they lost a potential customer. I can't say enough good things about Dr. Glass. I'm a Veteran with double vision from a TBI in service, he handed me another pair of a lesser prescription of Prism, worth 350, to see if I can't correct it by weening myself down. I've seen double since 2009. read more

Dr. Glass unfortunately doesn't work on Saturdays, so anyone with a job has to see the other doctor, who is very nice but got my fit wrong twice, trying to blame my hygiene in one instance (I have OCD and have been wearing RGPs with no problems for 15+ years). That resulted in a sent back lens and a lot of extra visits. The salesman and receptionist made me feel a bit like a bother in spite of the fact that it wasn't my fault. In the end I settled for not using the lenses I'd bought and wearing glasses for nearly a year. Oddly, they sell hard lenses but don't have solutions for them at the office for when you need to take yours out. I had to bring mine with me twice and send their salesman to a drugstore another time. The sink doesn't have a drain plug, either. Very odd. Pros: they have a truly amazing selection of eyeglass frames. They did a very good job with my eyeglasses and they did help me get the most out of VSP. I am switching optometrists this year. read more
