The person behind the desk said there was a problem with my insurance not being accepted in their computer when I checked in for my appointment. Long story short there was not, he just didn't want to call the number on my insurance card. This caused my appointment to run longer than expected and Dr. Nguyen got caught up with the next patient right after. I asked to have my receipts and prescription emailed to me and I got the receipts, but not the prescription. My appointment was in October 2024 and I have not received a response from my follow up emails. read more

Dr. Truong was very thorough with my eye exam. He explained what he was doing and how it helped him to provide the best eye care for me. I felt comfortable asking questions. He politely answered every question I had. His assistant was very patient and he explaned my billing. He knew my vision insurance and he willingly looked up an answer for an insurance question. The person working the front has no interest in customer service. It was like pulling teeth to get a modicum of assistance. And the assistance was pitiful. However I still bought a pair of glasses because I was in a pinch, but now they're ill fitting and he was not happy at all that I asked for an "adjustment." I will go elsewhere for a real adjustment now. He seemed legitimately mad that I asked for a print out of my prescription and my receipt, which was never given to me in my prior two visits. Now I'm stuck with a pair of glasses that look too big and don't feel great. Having him working there in malpractice!! I want a refund or replacement frames at this point. read more

The attendant at the front desk was hella rude. He was very unprofessional and not friendly at all. Totally acting like I was putting them out for coming in to pick up what I bought. The optometrist was really nice and professional. She was great and really really liked her. This guy (just wanted to be behind the computer staring at whatever they thought was captivating , since they were glued to that spot) for some reason was really mean and rude to me. When I came in the first time and again later when I came in to pick up my order. If people are on here just writing nice things JUST to get the starbucks gift card (there's a sign at the front desk asking customers to go on yelp and write a review for compensation) then thats lame. Dr. Thuy is the best optometrist I've ever had. I have the world's most difficult eyes and I swear she's the only one that can help get them feeling better. She's so kind, warm, friendly and knowledgable. You really feel important and taken care of here. I don't feel like I'm stepping into some cold medical office. The place is beautiful and decorated so wonderfully. It's not trying too hard to be trendy and hipster. Barf. It's just a wonderful place to walk into. Even though the the decor is swanky and the place feels very expensive, it's not outrageous at all for prices. They take my insurance and the prices are good for all eye care needs. The staff is super friendly as well. Everyone that I've met that works there is super helpful and is genuine and wants you there. I'm so glad they're open and I finally have an optometrist I can trust and feel comfortable with. I was lucky enough to be able to make their grand opening event for customers and it was awesome. I have been looking for a new pair of glasses and looked on Yelp for stores near me that have good ratings. This place showed up as one with ppl raving about price and collection. I finally got to visit but it was a huge disappointment. The store is modern and clean and fine. But the only person working there (a young man) was as if he was glued to his spot behind the cashier desk. I browsed around, he did ask me the standard question of us there anything I was looking for, I said a new pair of glasses. He did not move out from his spot that's relatively pretty deep in the room and far from me. Well, I felt an immediate turndown for this place. But I wanted to play fair and give him another chance. So I elaborated that I am particularly looking for a lightweight pair. To my surprise, he still decided its best to stick to his spot and not come out to interact with me or show me any frames. He only mentioned a brand name to me that has the lightweight stuff. To which I had to ask which one and he pointed from his spot to the shelf of the glasses. Wow. I can not believe a word the other reviews said! This place is NOT friendly and warm AT ALL! I felt pretty folded out and decided to leave. I didn't really find the selection to be great anyways. They are mostly if not all Luxottica mass production stuff anyway. I would much rather buy from unique independent designer brands than this huge group that controls 90% of the eyewear market. My experience at EyeQ was out of this world! This is what Portland businesses should be like. I went to 4 other places trying to use my VSP before the end of the year before I found them. I'm so glad I held out! They have the biggest selection I found and I was blown away by how many were so affordable. Did you know that there are local Portland brands of frames in totally reasonable price ranges? Neither did I until I got here! This shop is family owned and the space is gorgeous. I will tell everyone! And I will definitely be back here for all of my exam and frame needs from now on. read more

Um hello, this place won my vote for best eye doctor in town. Their space is very modern it's nice , the staff is kind, but that's not what won me over, it was the doctor. Listen going to the eye doctor isn't first on my list of things I love to do- it's just kind of annoying, The doctor here made my appointment so freaking easy I will continue to come back to this place every two years when I need my prescription. Firstly the front desk couldn't find my insurance information no fault of their own they just couldn't find it because I just signed up, so instead of making a stink about it, the doctor just let me pay when I pick up my contacts. My initial appointment was so fast I didn't even need to park in the one hour parking space. I have astigmatism and the doctor explained to me what that means for my eye in a way that no one else has ever explained it to me, not to mention it's a chick so that's bad ass! I will say, I didn't really like the glaucoma (puff in your eye) test and the other places I've been to in town had more advanced technology that didn't require the puffs of air and did a digital test. Which is cool and all but I think it probably cost me a lot more money to do it that way. This place made it so easy for me to get my renewed prescription and order contacts that I'm kind of dumbfounded it was one of the easiest appointments I've ever had and I'd recommend it to anyone! read more

Had an appointment here a couple weeks ago. The doctor is very friendly and fast. Not to mention this is one of the few places you can drop by after work (I had my appointment at 5:30). Yesterday I went in to pick glasses. The person at the front desk asked if I needed help and let my browse by myself. Once I selected my pair he helped me make all the choices that we're best for my vision and lifestyle. He actually told me my current glasses had a lower bifocoal and helped me decide what a good point would be for my new pair. I'm a heavy contacts user and only wear glasses for a couple of hours every night so wasn't really looking for new pair of glasses until I saw their great selection of glasses! My exam was quick, easy, and Dr. Thuy did an amazing job educating me on some options I have when it comes to contacts lenses and the brands that are out there. The staff did a great job helping me select some frames. The first frame I picked were Shwood but after having my Rx lenses on them, they were heavy in weight and also heavy in appearance on my face. EyeQ let me return them to pick out another pair! I ended up going with an Iconic clear frame with pastel blue sides that I am absolutely in love with! Both optometrists that I've had experience with there make sure that you have an approachable understanding of what is happening to your vision and how they intend to correct it. I had a really great visit here. This is my first time I've had to get my eyes checked since I was a kid, so the staff was super helpful in explaining everything that would happen and what my insurance and co pays would be before my exam. I was in and out with a completed eye exam and a pair of frames in 40 minutes. Dr. Thuy was SO nice and explained everything she was doing and why. She listened to all of my issues gave me a lot of good advice to maintain my eye health and ease issues. When the exam was over, the front desk crew helped me pick out an awesome pair of frames (they told me to pick my favorites then they would help me decide from there). I really appreciated the second opinion! Then they explained all of the types of lense options and had a sample to show me how the lenses would look. I only had to pay around $140 to cover the eye exam, some nice Oakley frames (just the frames without insurance were 175), and some nice lenses (upgraded from plain plastic). All in all, GREAT experience and I'm glad I found my new vision care on the first try by going to EyeQ. I am excited to pick up my frames in a week or so and thank the crew again! read more

I recently got my very first prescription for readers. Having never worn glasses in 40 years, every style looks very "weird" on to me because I'm just not used to them- so this means I am trying on over a dozen pairs to see what best suits me. I actually had my exam done at another place, but decided not to purchase frames there because I felt they were impatient with me and was made to feel like I was just being difficult when I wanted to try on many pairs of frames. I dropped into EyeQ to try on frames, anticipating it would be a similar dreadful experience, but I was pleasantly surprised. Thuan at the front desk was extremely professional and understanding. He didn't rush me at all and gave me space to try on as many frames as I wanted, but also gave me great advice on selecting my first pair. For example, as I need them only for screen work and reading, he suggested erring on the side of functionality- what would be most comfortable to wear for 8 hours, rather than just aesthetics. I ended up selecting a pair I'm happy with in both style and function. I think I tried on close to 15 frames and nothing was a bother to him. I highly recommend this place. I feel terrible because I can't recall her name, but the optometrist was amazing and did such a thorough exam. She was so informative and helpful and took so much time explaining things and answering all my questions. The staff was friendly and they have a great selection of frames. My glasses came in a week later which was great as it's taken up to 3-4 was at other places I have gone. The absolute best part of all of this is that this is the first time my prescription has been done correctly. I just started wearing glasses in the past 5 years and I have always ended up with glasses that were too strong so I couldn't wear them, had to have them sent back, or have a new eye exam somewhere else and get a totally different prescription. I have never been able to just put my glasses on and them feel perfect right away! I am so very happy!! read more

Don't be intimated by the boutique atmosphere. Incredibly professional with impeccable customer service (I haven't ever said that about an optometry practice before). They carry a wide selection of frames- both name brand as well as local brands. More affordable than you would think. They accept my vision insurance and the amount not covered by my insurance, I was able to charge to my HSA (health savings account) card. Park in the lot between EyeQ and the Matador. Kid friendly!
