Found this place to be nearby and highly rated on Yelp so I decided to get my annual eye exam here. What a pleasant experience! And I will be endorsing them to all of my family and friends! Dr. Polsinelli was so thorough and has the nicest personality! Turns out he's married to his partner optometrist, Dr. Miyamoto, who graduated from the same high school I did! Such a small world. His exam and explanations were beyond my expectations. I mean I've been told for years that I had dry eyes, but no one ever said how to treat it other than buy eye drops. Dr. Polsinelli actually gave me a lesson on home remedies and what causes the dry eyes. After talking about my life changes, he also told me he offers free pediatric eye exams to children 6-12 months old. Wow! I just can't say enough about his practice and I look forward to meeting his wife one day! read more

Excellent optometry care! Dr. Polsinelli was personable, great listener, up to date on all the research/literature and clearly interested in my eye care. I felt the exam was very thorough and I left with a much better understanding of eye anatomy and best preventive care to ensure great eyesight for years to come. Staff were also welcoming and knowledgeable. A good assortment of frames to check out. Located in a large parking lot with lots of lunch options and coffee shop nearby (AVA Roasteria). I was indecisive about glasses and contacts and everyone patiently worked with me to ensure I ended up with a perfect fit. Dee was very knowledgable about glasses and can help find a style you like, as well as make small tweaks to each frame so they adapt to your face. Lisa is so friendly and accommodating with scheduling, looking up insurance benefits, and sitting with patients through the sometimes long process of learning to put in contacts. Dr Polsinelli has a professional relationship with Kaiser Permanente NW. When Kaiser could not get me into their clinic it was possible to schedule appointments for me and my husband at his office. We were very impressed by the professionalism of Dr. Polsinelli and his staff. They were efficient and did a very in-depth evaluation in the exam. I was diagnosed with a retinal bleed and Dr Polsinelli was very proactive in getting me seen by a retinal specialist as soon as possible in the Kaiser facility. He followed up with a call to me to make sure I knew that Kaiser would contact me and then followed up with an Email to make sure I had an appointment. One thing that was very comforting was that he can explain things very carefully and wanted to make sure I had all my questions answered. His service feels very personal in terms caring about the problems that were diagnosed and following throught in a way that one finds surprising in this post-covid medical world. I really appreciate the expert care and attention Dr. Polsinelli provides, not just in terms of getting my vision 20/20 but also occular health. This place is new in west Lake Oswego. All the current Yelp reviews come from the owner's (Elio) business in San Francisco. The 5 star reviews are very much earned. I'm leaving on a 3 week trip and really wanted to get new eyeglasses with my new prescription. I called several places closer to where I live and they all said 2-4 weeks to get my eyeglasses. Elio committed to having them in a 8-9 days. I visited his shop to look at eyeglasses. I was pleasantly surprised at the amount of eyeglass frames that he had in stock. I love the eyeglasses that I selected. I know that that personally went to FedEx to overnight express the frames I selected to the lens producer. Son of a gun...the eyeglasses actually arrived EARLIER than promised. They take their time fitting the eyeglasses to their customer. I had my first eye exam with Dr Polsinelli yesterday and it was the best eye exam I have ever had. I learned more about my eyes than I have ever before, and he took so much time to answer questions and explain how my eyes work so that I would understand why I have certain symptoms, as well as the various aspects of my vision. Dr. Polsinelli has the worst bedside manner I've ever encountered (I'm a nurse, so I know what I'm talking about). And that is a non-negotiable for me when choosing a doctor. He was so rushed and short with me it was literally offensive. I know I have a lot of questions, but that's part of your job buddy, sorry. His exam was so rushed, and his answers so abrupt, I almost got up and left. If you don't have the time for new patients, just say so and provide excellent care to the ones you have. AND THEN...he proceeds to tell me, "your optic nerves don't look right, it could possibly mean you have multiple sclerosis" WHAT? WAIT! (ok so that's not verbatim, but close enough. And for an anxious person like me, that's all I heard). If that's the case, there is an appropriate way to tell a patient with some tact and compassion. That is not news you drop on a person, and then rush them out the door practically in tears, and then try to sell them $700 glasses. I turned out to be just fine, but thanks for the scare of a lifetime and the disrespect. Stop investing money in that fancy office and invest in a people skills training course. WILL NEVER BE BACK. read more

Dr. Polsinelli is a great optometrist. He is incredibly friendly and really knows his stuff! First, the location is convenient (metered parking out front) and the office is clean and nice. They have a large wall of lenses you can try on, with a variety of price points. Of course I liked the Chanel ones the best, typical! I came in needing a general check up and had no idea what to expect. I never had my eyes checked before! Dr. Polsinelli was so informative and walked me through everything he was doing. I also was able to ask questions and he never rushed me. He taught me some tips for better orienting my monitor at work since I am always on the computer. My husband had an appointment here as well and had a good experience and feels the same way as me. It isn't every day that you leave a doctor's office and your wife has a practically childlike joy bubbling up to the surface. I mean, I gather this is what it's like the first time she sees her child on an ultrasound but Dr. Polsinelli is an eye doctor. This was somewhat unexpected. A minor clarification: Dr. Polsinelli was Nicole's very first eye doctor (not counting the guy who came to her school in the fourth grade) It says a lot for the man's character that he seemed to enjoy being the first as much as Nicole did. I would imagine it isn't every day that someone gets to make this sort of an impact on a person's life inside of less than 45 minutes. When we decided to find an optometrist for Nicole, we did so because she is starting a doctorate program of her own in a little over a week. Nicole has always had to sit in the front of the room and gets headaches when she reads. Her eyes focus differently on the page depending on where she is reading it. Honestly, I don't know how she's done it all these years. The rings around lights at night should have been a hint but I didn't know about that part. I suppose it must not have seemed important after so many years. On first impression, the office looked more like a showroom than an actual doctor's workplace. I mean, really? Someone actually spent all this cash on the latest & greatest equipment? Awesome! I feel the same way about Dora Gavros dental practice in Tiburon but it's a rare find when it happens. From what I gather, the examination itself went as well as everything else. Nicole won't have her new glasses until the middle of her first week of school but the experience of looking through the test lenses and being able to see - really see - for the first time in her adult life when she hadn't even realized her eyes were more than just "a little off" was remarkable. She didn't stop grinning the whole way home. I'd like to thank the entire staff from the front desk to the optician with impeccable style (You rock Adrienne) who helped Nicole help pick the right glasses for her face. Dr. Elio Polsinelli is a rare find! I've been having eye problems for the past year and a half and Dr. Polsinelli is the first clinician that I walked away from thinking, now I can sleep at night, not worrying that I've been misdiagnosed. It's such a nice feeling. I was impressed with his knowledge, compassion and attention to detail. I have never had such a thorough eye exam in my life! State of the art equipment, meticulous testing, extensive questioning and he really listened to me. He was able to pinpoint the problem, give me background on why this was happening and even give me nutritional guidance to help to counteract my condition. His office is beautiful and in a great part of town and I actually found some great frames from the extensive collection. I'm going to go back with my girlfriend and pick out a pair of glasses soon. While I was there his assistant, (can't remember her name) was very helpful and even adjusted my old glasses for me! I'll be back every year! read more

Hi All! Dr. Polsinelli is awesome! He was friendly, informative, and thorough. If you need contacts, glasses, sunglasses or anything eye-wise, this is the place to go! I've worn glasses since I was six, so this wasn't my first walk in the park, and this was the best experience I've ever had. They have high tech equipment, a very comfortable and aesthetically pleasing office, and friendly Staff. I do want to remark that their Receptionist, Martha I believe, was super helpful, efficient and pleasant from my initial call to paying and leaving. The examination is very thorough, they will try to get you to take every test in the book, but it is all included - no extra costs. You can opt out of some tests like the pupil dilation, etc. if it isn't immediately necessary and return to have the tests when it is more convenient at no extra cost. Dr. Polsinelli even took the time to explain color vision to me from a medical perspective (I'm color deficient) and I learned that I actually see different colors then you Norms because my cones (type of eye cell that processes light on the color spectrum) process light from the color spectrum differently. My first visit with Dr. Polsinelli was years ago when he was at the West Portal location. At that time I was super impressed with how thorough, knowledgeable, and his willingness, patients, and reassuring manner with answering ALL of my questions which were not only about me but my teeny tiny baby girl. I liked him so much i got my entire family to switch "eye guys" (that's what I call em') so all 3 sisters, mom, step-dad, the whole clan. about a year later I wanted to book a new appointment for me and my kiddy (he mentioned that he specialized in child Optometry) but he had left to start his own practice. I had my visit with the old place and well ... let's just say they let me down. i had to cancel my daughters appointment because the service was far below par and told them I would rather wait until Dr. P opened up his place. Just recently found him again and all is not only just as i remember it, but better because he has all freedom to do so much more at his own place. he was great with my daughter who is 4 and super duper shy with new people. He had her laughing and and actually speaking and interacting... and OMG! she was so comfortable with him she asked him to put drops in her eyes (which he did to dilate her eyes)!! she doesn't even let me do that; I typically have to wrestle her down and pop em in . I was very proud of her and very, very grateful to him for making her first experience such a great one (she hates going to doctor visits usually) It was so funny she was all having a conversation with him about how if she does well at her visit she would get ice cream, and it's safe to say she did. Dr. P I totally owe you an ice cream too. My visit was just as great as before and i give him and extra kudos for fixing my mangled glasses, which saved me from having to buy new ones. Although i didn't need new glasses his assistant Karen, i'm bad with names but i'm pretty sure that's her name, helped me browse all the cute frames. She didn't try to push anything on me and was very nice. She and I narrowed it down to two possible frames and then Dr. P priced them out with or with out the extras and calculated the insurance stuff for me. I will totally keep going back to him with my kid, and now i gotta tell my sisters and parents to move to Dr. P too. I was recently told that I would be needing glasses and had my eyes examined/ got my first prescription for lenses, etc., back in November '10. (Not with Dr. Polsinelli, but with Lillian Shen at Golden Gate Optometry--also 5 stars, if you're wondering) Anyway, because of my insurance I had to wait until VSP kicked in at the beginning of the year so I had been waiting to get lenses and frames. I had gone to a number of places and they just seemed really interested in setting me up with expensive frames, and not much knowledge or info on how my insurance was going to handle it. Basically, just trying to sell. I'm pretty wary of the "Oh, your insurance can handle all of that for you, just give us the $630 and you just send this receipt to them" speech, ESPECIALLY when it comes to vision/dentistry. "Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice...strike three." Dr. Polsinelli was the complete opposite. He let me spend time choosing frames, went through all of my options. Showed me clearly what my insurance covered, what it didn't cover and what my responsibility to pay was going to be long before we even approached a cash register. Basically an extremely straight shooter and a pleasure to be a customer of. He's definitely got my business from now on. read more

ok 1) you need to know that many, many health problems can be spotted first with a good optemetry exam: diabetes, hihg blood pressure, etc. SO 2) getting a doc who will realy, and i mean, really check out your eyes not for the sake of your vision but for the sake of you overall health is muy importante. I have NEVER had such a thorough exam for my general health and for my eyeballs. Dr. Polsinelli's shop has a good energy, employees who are really super-engaged and helpful and frankly, even if I had to pay cash to see him and had no insurance at all, i would consider it money well spent. He has some great frames that are more hip and many are unisex. He will take the time to explain everything to you and teach you something cool about your eyes you will repeat at happy hour after your appointment. read more

His eye exams are efficient and thorough, and he takes the time to answer all your questions with a detailed medical rationale. At the same time, he makes you feel comfortable in all the small ways--by making conversation with you and sharing personal anecdotes with a sense of humor, both of which infuse a sense of personalization in what can otherwise be a rote and depersonalized process. When he says he will follow up with you within a given time frame, he follows through. All that's to say, I love this guy and this place, and I don't impress easily. I'm so glad I found this place! Booking an appointment online made the process so much easier. The day before my appointment, I was also able to fill out my paperwork online, which made the appointment even faster. Dr. Polsinelli is really nice and very professional. He talks to you a lot about about what he's diagnosing and explains how the eye works. Who knew going to the eye doctor could actually be interesting? I waited about 10-15 minutes for my appointment since it's a busy time of year, and the staff was so incredibly apologetic. I was used to routinely waiting over an hour for my previous eye doctor! Their efficiency in maintaining their schedule meant that I was able to get my appointment done over my lunch break. As an east coast transplant, I'm frequently impatient with long SF wait times. Yelp comes through on this one! Saw Dr. Polsinelli for the first time yesterday and am thrilled. -I've been to lots of optometrists (30 years' worth) and this guy was just top notch. Though I went in thinking my eyes had gotten weaker, as I assumed they have slowly done over the years, he actually corrected my old prescription (that I'd gotten from prestigious Columbia in NYC) to a less strong version, explaining that the end-of-day fatigue I was feeling was due to my eyes working all day against a too-strong prescription. He let me compare the old and new corrections in his office and the difference was noticeable and continued to be for the rest of the day. I'll give it a week to know for sure, but so far so good! He was speedy (he's originally a New Yorker) but quite friendly and thorough, and the whole appointment was a breeze. -The office staff was also friendly and easy to deal with. read more

I've never felt more confident about my eyes before! Dr. Polsinelli puts you at ease from the first moment, and meticulously tests your eyes until you're confident you have 20:20 vision. Although it's a long process, trust me, it's worth it. I was shocked that I was living with the wrong prescription for a year.
