The optometrist is great. Easy to talk to, explains everything in an easy-to-understand way. I'm marking my review down because they didn't give me my PD (Pupillary Distance) measurement when I got my eyeglass prescription. They had asked upfront whether I would be buying glasses from them, to which I said no. I noticed only after I got home that my prescription didn't contain the PD. I called to get it and they said they didn't do that measurement but they'd be happy to do it for an additional $15. Honestly, it's not the money that gets me, it's that they intentionally gave me a prescription and knowingly not giving me the one thing I need to buy glasses. Now want more money and another visit to give it to me. Feels a little deceitful to me. read more

Dr. Kwong is extremely thorough and professional. I get my eyes checked every year because of family history of glaucoma and macular degeneration. I chose to visit Eyes on You because they had good reviews and were close to my office. I'm glad these requirements took me here, because it's the best optometrist experience I have had! This was the third optometrist I have visited in Portland in six years, and the first time I felt listened to. Dr Khong listened to all my concerns and needs (usually wear glasses due to all-day computer work, but I prefer contacts for when I ride my motorcycle) and advised me I have ridiculously dry eyes. Of all the times I complained that contacts were not comfortable, no one tested my eyes for dryness! Seems like a game-changer. Dr Kathy Kwong was amazing. She made me feel so relaxed and calm. She took the time to explain everything and made sure I understood. She put me right at ease. I would highly recommend her to anyone. She actually went to the same college that I currently attend and was full of stories about her time there. She was really personable and I did not feel that this was a trip to the optometrist at all! The receptionist I spoke to both on the phone and in person was so lovely and helpful. I can't say enough good things about Dr. Khong and her staff. I have been going here for two years and have referred several friends. Her staff is delightful and the office is pristine. Dr. Khong is incredibly knowledgeable in her field, thorough, and listens carefully to your concerns while even picking up on non-verbal cues. I never feel rushed or pressured while in an appointment, and appreciate her attention to detail. Also, my appointments have ALWAYS run on time; I've never had to wait beyond my scheduled appointment time. She has helped me tremendously with my contacts. I've been a contact wearer for over a decade, but was dealing with major discomfort issues. She had me try multiple different brands over the course of several weeks to really determine what was the best for me. I've now been in the brand she helped me find for two years and have never been so happy with my lenses! She also has you follow up a week after trying a new lens to see how it's wearing rather than just rush you to order. I benefited from this, bc my lens did need a slight adjustment after a week, and I wasn't stuck with a year supply of the slightly wrong kind! This office is also great about getting you in if you have an emergency or issue arise. Also, scheduling non-emergency appointments has been quick, and they send email + text reminders, plus have a nice online patient portal. She diagnosed a long-time condition I had that was previously misdiagnosed/untreated. I'm not impressed. While the optometrist is great, the sales staff is all about the high pressure. They turned my one appointment into three, took longer than they stated to get glasses, cost more and gave me flat-out wrong information (they told me Costco would be more expensive for lenses). Professional and thorough. I was delighted by how everything came together. I had a difficult time explaining some weirdities with my prescription, but Doctor Khong walked me through all the issues and we ended up making a tiny adjustment to my prescription -- tuning it. I don't know what the heck was up with my previous eye doctors, but I need to hunt them all down and smack them with cold wet fish. After receiving my contact lenses and then my glasses at Eyes On You, I am happy to report that my eyesight has never been better IN MY WHOLE LIFE! I had no idea until now. That's how great my experience was. And they're sci-fi fans, too, which I know is anecdotal and personal, but knowing that I can chat a few references from Firefly or Fringe makes the entire experience even more personal. I had a wonderful experience here, I promptly got a next day appointment and the doctor was very nice and knowledgeable. She spent a lot of time educating me and figuring out what was wrong with my eyes. The doctor pays attention to all the fine details, as she discovered that my current prescription was too high and was causing excessive strain. Dr. Khong will go the extra mile to help you! My only issue is that their selection of frames is rather limited and on the higher end, I would say the average price of frames is about $300, running as high as $600, and I was not looking to spend over $200. Even with my insurance I ended up spending around 250 but ordered a pair that I was happy with. Either way, I suggest coming here to see the doc, you can always order frames elsewhere. read more

I've seen quite a few eye doctors over the years, including a dry eye specialist at OHSU. I have never had such good care from any of my previous doctors. Dr. Khong really took time during my examination and explained things to me. I know more about my dry eye in one visit with Dr. Khong than from three years at OHSU. I went for one eye exam and had a great experience (including a sizing change for contacts that has been a life changer). The only reason I don't continue is that I found a place close to home that can examine without dilation, which saves hours of recovery time. Amazing Doctor and staff! Dr Khong wasn't able to get a solid read on my prescription because of underlying dry eye symptoms, symptoms that were never addressed by other doctors in the past. After suggesting an eye drop treatment for 2 weeks I had another appointment, free of charge, and she was able to get my eye glass prescription. Highly recommended! read more

My last eye exam was at a mall shop, and this was not even in the same universe. I had come across Dr. Khong's excellent reviews here, then a coworker highly recommended her as well. I went in expecting excellence, and even so my experience was above and beyond! Everything I needed to fill out was sent ahead of time electronically. There was one document for me to sign on arrival for my appointment (HIPAA), and I was impressed this was done with a reusable form (write on / wipe off) that they then scan into the patient's record, so no paper wasted! My visit with Dr. Khong started promptly, no wait at all. She put me at ease right away with her friendly and professional demeanor, which included carefully explaining each procedure as she was setting up for it. Her questions demonstrated that she had read the forms I filled out, which was so refreshing! She didn't just examine my eyes, she educated me in a very accessible way (no medical knowledge needed!) about a number of things I had questions on and several that I didn't ask about, but she seemed to perceive I didn't understand fully. With so much care and attention, I felt very confident that her recommendations were individualized to my specific situation and concerns, as opposed to cookie-cutter dictates given to all patients, as I'd felt at the mall shop. After the exam I got help selecting frames. They were expensive here, and I'll probably take my prescription to a cheaper place for additional pairs for less-frequent use, but I was happy with the no-pressure help I received as well as the frames I ultimately selected. I don't remember the woman's name who helped me, but she exhibited as much care as Dr. Khong in listening to what I liked and didn't like about each selection, and she used each bit of feedback in selecting a new pair of frames to try. I took a chance on this office because of the great Yelp reviews so far, and I was not disappointed! I have nothing but great things to say about Eyes on You. I had a wonderful experience thanks to James and Dr. Khong. Which is saying a lot - because who really likes eye exams? I had to get the works here - full exam, new glasses and new contacts. The entire process went very smoothly and I felt like James went the extra mile the whole way through. They simply have excellent customer service and make you feel important and taken care of as a patient. Both James and Dr. Khong worked with my insurance provider to make sure I was getting the full extent of my benefits, as well as making sure I understood them. Insurance can be a little tricky - especially when said insurance provider gives you different information each time you call - they were extremely patient and everything worked out very well. Dr. Khong is just lovely and definitely made me feel at ease. I'm personally not thrilled about the general invasiveness of eye exams, but she was understanding of my discomfort at times (none of which was her doing by the way - I'm 27 and I still balk at the idea of putting in eyedrops) and was kind enough to explain each step that she was taking so nothing caught me off guard. The exam itself seemed incredibly thorough and she was very knowledgable. I felt like I was in good hands. They have a really wonderful selection of high-end frames and were so patient with me trying on each pair at least twice trying to find the right fit. I also have to thank them for their honest opinions when it came down to frame shape/face shape! Even though I ended up choosing frames "out of network", the process was just as easy to get lenses fitted. I scheduled an appointment for Eyes on You, PC super last minute, and they totally fit me in so that was immediately awesome of them. I needed and eye exam and some new frames, but the last office visit I had (years ago) was so unpleasant that I have been putting off going. Because I wasn't super sure of where the office was located (the entrance is on Jefferson street,) I got there super early, but it ended up being perfect because I could look at as many frames as I wanted and had plenty of time to try on as many as I liked before making a small pile of selections. Dr. Khong was super sweet, very knowledgable, and was so helpful to explain different things to me as she went. I'm kind of a handful and ask a ton of questions, but she was very polite in answering every concern I had. It seemed like she did a few tests that I've never had done before, like walk down the hall and back with test frames just to make sure the walls weren't wobbly or something, it seemed like a great step for ensuring that I get the best frames possible. The staff was my favorite part, very friendly and gave me wonderful advice as to which frames looked the best on my face. I wanted to make sure I got frames that were on point without looking mega hipster, and they helped me pick the best frames as far as which went best with my complexion, eyes, etc... Aesthetic suggestions. How do you even search for that? It's a service that isn't really listed but was MUCH appreciated and totally helpful! I will admit that it's a bit more pricey than the old place I used to go to, although not significantly, and honestly it's a pair of frames that I'm going to have for years and years so that's not so bad. My experience was one of the most reassuring ones of my life, trust me. You can't always judge a provider by how WELL things go on that initial visit or purchase, but how the provider responds to problematic situations as they arise.. it's far more realistic to measure the quality of professional "service" by the latter yardstick. It almost became a comedy of errors.. the exam itself went well, Dr. Khong was every inch the thorough professional described elsewhere in these posts.. her technician James was equally informative and friendly.. but for whatever reason, the 2 pair of glasses (1 was a bifocal, the other a computer-use lens).. became a source of a GIANT migraine. I'm retired on a fixed income, and the final price which included --even with insurance-- both pair with frames, was both surprising AND painful. Nevertheless, the two pair I received were flawless in terms of refraction. Over the next 5 months I had to return 3 times because one of the lenses on EACH pair would not stay put, and popped out. Each time I returned, James dutifully --not to forget CHEERFULLY-- wrestled the lenses back into place. Finally, both Dr. Khong and James determined that the lab had not fit the lens to the frames ordered, and they totally reordered the lenses again.. and this time they fit perfectly. This certainly couldn't have been fun for either Eyes on You OR me.. but the end product is perfect, and I will always remember the "we'll make it right" attitude toward my situation.. I have absolutely no qualms about presenting this firm as a quality establishment for your eye needs. I can count on the fingers of one hand the number of recommendations I am able to submit in this fashion .. I am 76 years old and absolutely know wherein I speak. read more

What a great experience I had with Dr. Khong! I had an unexpected issue with my eyes, and needed to see an optometrist right away. I was so impressed with how attentive and thorough Dr. Khong was. She listened to everything I said and did the most thorough exam. She gave me a detailed explanation about my issue and suggested different treatments and ways to alleviate my discomfort.
