My family has been a client of this optometry for about 3 years. The experience has always been…read moregreat: eye exams were quick and informative, front desk employees were always helpful and attentive. However this year's annual visit was anything but. It may be due to the change of ownership (I believe it happened either late last year or this year), but my experience with the front desk employee (Sam) was not great. Per usual, the exam was quick, the new doctor was nice and informative, and the other front desk employee (male with glasses) was extremely attentive and helpful. The issue came about a few days after my exam when I decided to use my annual frame allowance for sunglasses (I've had LASIK correction for a few years now). I called the office, Sam answered and I explained what I wanted to do - I've been utilizing this allowance for years. Sam looked up my insurance and asked if it was for prescription glasses. I said, "no, non-prescription". She then quickly told me that I couldn't use my insurance allowance for that purpose. I asked if the insurance had changed in the last year because I've been doing this for years. She said no, it's always been like that and that there's nothing they could do. After letting her know to double check the clauses of the allowance, she checked and noticed that clients with lasik procedures are allowed to use their insurance for sunglasses. She didn't apologize for initially providing me with incorrect information, she just went on and asked what frames I wanted. I told her the model and she noted they don't carry those. I thought I had gotten the same brand from them the year before and said "but I got them last year from you". Quicker than lighting she had already pulled up my prior orders to correct me: no I had not ordered that brand with them! She seemed annoyed that I was even asking. She proceeded to tell me that if I wanted that brand I would have to go elsewhere and referred me to a competitor. She didn't give me options to go online and use a prescription to order them myself, or anything else. I asked for my prescriptions (mine and my husband's) and headed to their competitor. Blessing in disguise - the front desk employee at this new place was a delight, the optician helped us get the sunglasses we needed without much hassle and we proceeded to schedule our 2026 annual eye check with them. This experience may not be representative of the entire practice, but it shows you that customer retention is just about being nice and patient with your clients.

For a long time I've been unable to have a full range of vision with previous contacts, so this was very welcome information. He took the time to patiently explain how it worked and answered all my questions. I purchased a pair of frames they had from a local area business, Shwood, who has a great selection of natural looking, wood frames. I paid and began my standard two week wait for the glasses. Then things took a turn. I learned that the high index lenses I bought would be indefinitely delayed and they tried to help by suggesting a slightly different product that would even be less expensive. I ended up learning that even those would not be done in time for a very important out of town trip and I began to get very frustrated and voiced my frustration with the staff who called. Even though my frustration showed through, the staff stayed calm and professional, and tried to do what they could to mitigate the impact and explained the delay was due to a wide-spread supply issue. I realized it had something to do with the shipping bottleneck that has been in the news recently (Hormuz) and it really was out of their hands. I could tell they tried everything they could to still meet the initial deadline. It's not how I wanted things to go, and it would have been great if I received my order on time. But that's just how things go sometimes. Upon reflection, the important thing to me was the people you had at your side when things DID go wrong. And I found that they were as professional, courteous and conciliatory as you would want in that situation. They really wanted to do what they could to help. So even though the experience didn't turn out perfect, I feel it was 'the people' who wanted to do what they could in an imperfect situation that makes a place worth your patronage. The service is civil and they take time when it's clear you're going to be dropping serious money. But, after dropping over 400 dollars on lenses (I brought my own frames to them, but read on about that) and I asked for a box to put my new glasses in, they said "Ten dollars". Really? After all the dough I just spent? It left a bitter taste in my mouth and I probably won't go back because of that petty gesture. Ironically, the frames were purchased FROM THEM two years earlier for a few hundred bucks. Not a good way to end what was a good experience. There are too many other choices in town. Good bye, Blink. You lost me.

This was just insulting. It's my health, and it's my money, and I have the right to opt out. I'd like to think that professionals could take a hint that money is clearly an issue for me without me having to say HEY, I'M FUCKING BROKE, I'M JUST HERE TO GET A PRESCRIPTION SO I CAN BUY CONTACT LENSES. The icing on the cake was not being given (or emailed) my new prescription at the end of the visit. After I emailed them asking for it, there was another little passive aggressive cherry on top -- part of my prescription was left blank, and I had to dig up my old prescription to find the number (the BC, or base curve, which is either 8.4 or 8.8 when ordering contacts online). So thanks, ladies! Very professional.

Dr. Polsinelli was so thorough and has the nicest personality! Turns out he's married to his partner optometrist, Dr. Miyamoto, who graduated from the same high school I did! Such a small world. His exam and explanations were beyond my expectations. I mean I've been told for years that I had dry eyes, but no one ever said how to treat it other than buy eye drops. Dr. Polsinelli actually gave me a lesson on home remedies and what causes the dry eyes. Kudos to the Eye Studio. Cons: Oh the one thing I didnt like was the constant messaging and reminder's once you've scheduled. If I dont make the appointment just charge me the $30 that you all have listed in the sign up process. Please please please do not blow my phone up with trxt, emails, or calls. I promise you I got it! You and every other appointment service I have scheduled does the same thing. Makes me place your number on mute to avoid the annoying reminders.

Original review posted on 6/4/2013. For some reason, this business (with my review) does not show up when you search for it but this is the actual business's Yelp account. So I'm writing a review after I've been back a couple times. I was referred to this place by my insurance company. Love that it's close to my work so I can just take off early and head to my appointment here before going home. This is a brand new clinic that just opened up at the Unitus building. My first appointment was for a regular eye exam for glasses and contacts. I found the optometrist to be very thoughtful and thorough. Listened to me rambling on and on about my eyes and what I do. She made a couple suggestions regarding my glasses and then for my contacts, offered me a different brand to try than I was used to. The best part was that she told me my eyes got "better" (slightly lower prescription!). That may not be her doing, but she delivered the great news! lol. I went back a week later after trying the contacts out to check the fit and comfort. I totally love them so we went ahead and ordered me a year supply. When you order a year supply, they offer to ship it to your house for free!!! I was told it would take a week (ordered on a late Thursday afternoon), but I came home today (Tuesday) to find it on my doorstep. Wow! Much cheaper than if I ordered on my own too. I'll have to make time to go back and check out their frames. Recommending to my friends and family to come here! Huge tip: park in the Unitus public parking. They validate 2 hours here. No need to worry about finding or paying for street parking if you have to drive here! read more

Prior to the appointment, she was asked about medical insurance, which caused confusion, as this was an annual routine eye appointment. I called the office seeking clarification, but Dylan could not adequately explain why the visit was billed as medical. I was told the office manager, Chrissy, would call my wife the next day, but no call was made. When I followed up that afternoon, Chrissy stated, "I had no intention of calling or apologizing because I was too busy doing other things and credentialling another doctor." Chrissy had time to listen to the recordings of my wife making the initial appointment and my conversation with Dylan, talk to the front desk staff, talk to the examining Optometrist, and review the billing for the visit, all prior to our phone conversation. During our conversation, Chrissy fabricated that my wife "came in concerned about her cataracts and eyelids." This is flatly untrue. Rather than addressing our concerns, she focused on my tone and accused me of being rude and condescending. She also minimized our concerns by stating that, "the medical portion would likely be covered and that we would not receive a bill." We have still not received a clear explanation as to why a routine vision exam became a medical exam. During the exam, the doctor confirmed my wife's existing cataracts were unchanged and briefly discussed drooping eyelids, which my wife declined to pursue treatment for. At no point was she informed that the exam was being converted to a medical visit. My wife has been a patient at Cascade Eye for years, and her cataracts previously documented during routine exams, without the visits being billed medically. We feel it was disingenuous that she was not informed of the change in billing status and was asked by receptionist Kathy to sign treatment consent forms after the exam. My wife has since called the office and requested an itemized bill from Dylan. The staff's poor communication, inability to answer billing questions, and dismissive response to our concerns caused unnecessary confusion and stress. Instead of receiving an explanation or apology, we encountered contentiousness and contradictory information, including statements that previous visits were not billed medically because a prior doctor had "shoddy paperwork.". We invite the clinic owner to listen to the conversations I had with his staff on August 11th & 12th. In particular, the office manager completely failed to represent Cascade Eye in a professional manner, and instead deflected blame onto the front desk staff, previous doctors, my wife, and myself. This was an awful patient & family experience filled with unclear, dishonest staff communication and misleading billing. My Wife also needed her prescription checked but she also needed to try out some contact lenses. The staff here is amazing. Very friendly and helpful. We were able to pay for my Wife's Trial Contact Lenses contactless. Awesome. Less than a week later, My Wife's Contacts came in and she was able to make an appointment for the next day to check them out. The Dr was super friendly and made my Wife feel at ease. She even mentioned possibly putting in a application. I'm glad we found a great optometrist so close to my home. My Wife couldn't be happier.

Destiny carefully selected frames based on our individual face shapes and must have pulled 20 or 30 different options for us to try. She had us comfortably seated the entire time and made the experience feel relaxed and enjoyable. Her feedback was thoughtful and spot-on, helping us narrow down choices without ever making us feel rushed or pressured to buy. She is incredibly professional, patient, kind, and friendly, everything you could hope for in an optician. It's clear she's extremely knowledgeable and genuinely cares about her clients. Prescription eyewear had to keep being sent back, we had to have them call Destiny and Dr Pierce more than once, to hold their hand walk them through how to make suitable prescription glasses that would work for a patient like myself. I truly cannot rave enough about everyone in this office and their amazing business practices, professionalism, pricing, and high-end service. I will violently accost people on the street who I hear pondering their next Optometrist needs and point and rant that there is really only one place 'You and Eye' will get the best quality eyecare & eyewear in The Greater Portland Area. During my visits, I was impressed with their friendly and professional attitude and willingness to accommodate my request to use my deceased father's frames when completing my prescription reading glasses. The result was awesome, and they even saved his old lenses for me without being asked (I didn't think of it, but was glad to have them). The experience felt "bespoke" but the price was very reasonable and I will certainly return!
