After giving him a very high level description of the type of glasses I was looking for, "ummm, plastic ones would be cool," Sung immediately handed me a few glasses to try on, and surprisingly, I liked all of them. I recently came in to see whats new in the eyewear world and to top of the cherry of Eyetailor's great service... they now do eye exams with or without appointments. Had my exam done on the same visit in less than 10 minutes, which was awesome because I needed an updated prescription. Note: Sung and Cesar mentioned the exam was not a full and comprehensive exam, which is okay with me since I always go to my eye doctor for a yearly eye check up anyhow. I have been lucky enough to always be able to buy expensive glasses and have thus been to many shops like this in LA and San Francisco. This is by far the best. When you pay more you expect to get more and at Eye Tailor you do. I have never experienced better customer service anywhere. It's what small business is all about: you might pay a little more but you get a better product and better service. I have purchased several paris of pricey glasses (in my opinion; over $400) from here and they have been a bargain due to the excellent service I continue to get. The glasses last seemingly forever and when they do have a problem you just go in and they fix it every time. Loose frames, worn plastic, lost cases, no problem. Agree with the more negative reviews, and I wonder if the many 5-stars are legit. The selection of frames is terrific, but the service is totally lacking. Not friendly. No helpful advice. No standing behind their product. First time I went was about an hour after their opening time and the door was locked. The owner came by several minutes later and never apologized or explained being over and hour late to open his own store. When I bought glasses the prescription was off. When i brought them back after giving them a couple weeks to get used to, all he did was refer me to a doctor for a reexamination, which I didn't need. Instead I went to a different optometrist to have them made correctly, but I wasted hundreds of $$ on the bad lenses. Just kind of slimy. Makes you feel bad giving him him your business when most folks are more appreciative, nicer, more helpful, and committed to getting your glasses right. read more

Never write reviews, but this shop is amazing and the owner is fantastic. The owner has a great sense of style (you should see the glasses he wears; they're perfect). Also, his work is meticulous. I went in today with a new pair of Warby Parkers and he said there was no need to make the bridge smaller; he just did a quick free adjustment instead. I was super impressed with the work he did before, to make my other pair of glasses fit, but now I might be more impressed with his integrity. Highly recommend this shop to everyone. read more

I had my new glasses lenses made and fitted here. The craftsmanship and attention to detail is absolutely apparent! My previous lenses were done at some LensCrafters downtown, and boy am I glad I came here instead. Mr. Kim made sure I was well taken care of, he gave me a fantastic price, he even cleaned my frames for me! A wonderful experience all around. Wow - the best shop! I stopped in to fix a favorite pair of Balenciaga glasses as one of the hinges broke. Scott from the sister store (vintage eyewear shop around the corner, Cateye) was helping that day. He was extremely knowledgeable and told me that unfortunately the type of hinge on my glasses couldn't be repaired. He could have easily stopped there. He searched through the stores' great glasses inventory to see if he could find a match but did not. I left him my number in case he found a pair but didn't expect a call. Scott called me very shortly after to say he found a very similar brand of glasses for sale on eBay and sent me the link. I couldn't believe the lengths he went to for me. I ended up buying that pair but I still liked mine better. I brought the eBay pair in to see if the hinges could be swapped for my pair of glasses. Sung looked at both glasses and said he wasn't sure but gave it a try and it worked. What did he charge me for all of this incredible service? $10!! Now that I know about these treasures of stores and employees I will definitely go back for new or vintage frames. If you wear glasses, you definitely need to put these shops on your list!! read more

One of my Rayban Wayfarer Polarized lens broke about a year back and I took them to Sung. I got the glasses new on ebay for $85 and sung informed me (after looking up the price in a book and contemplating the amount of profit he might be able to get from me) that new polarized lens would be $90 plus shipping (ie: far more than I paid for the frames and lens). I decided to wait about a year to see if I could find new lens on ebay, which I did...for $35. I watched a few youtube videos on how to replace the lens, and was fairly confident I could do it, but rather than risk it, I mistakenly took them back to Sung. He told me he would charge $10 to replace them (a process that takes under two minutes) and I reluctantly agreed. He disappeared behind the wall and came back with a frown on his face and my glasses. While doing the very simple task of switching out lens, he broke my very expensive Wayfarer frames, and then had the audacity to say he would do me a favor and only ask $5 for his services. $5 FOR BREAKING MY GLASSES. This guy is a joke that takes advantage of people who are willing to pay high prices for his convenient location. read more

awesome boutique glasses shop! i am SO glad i found this place!! thank you yelp :) i have previously only been to big-box chain lens and frame stores and even purchased a pair recently through my insurance. it was cheap, but it took weeks to get my glasses, and the lenses werent centered properly and the glasses were basically useless. i was going on an international trip over the holidays and needed glasses for traveling, and was desperate to find a place that could fix the ones i had or help me get new glasses ASAP. i searched on yelp, and luckily found this place due to the great reviews. from the start, they were amazingly helpful, and were able to fit me in right away and get me new glasses and lenses, as well as install nose pads, all within 3 days over a weekend! it was a little expensive, but well worth the cost. after all, what's the point in buying cheap glasses when they're basically useless and you have to return them anyways? parking is a little difficult but not impossible. i was always able to find parking on heliotrope around the corner. read more

I've read a couple negative reviews below about sung's customer service so I wanted to share my experience. I was looking for a great set of frames and started my search at gogosha in silver lake. it's a good shop, but a little over the top for me. my fiancé recommended the eye tailor, she's a stylist and had found some very rare frames from sung in the past and had a great experience. my buddy and I cruised over and were pleasantly surprised by sung's selection of frames for both of us. he's got a great eye for individual character and tastes. my friend and I both eventually bought our frames there. I've gone back several times to get the fit adjusted as frames tend to naturally loosen over time. sung is super gracious about it every time. I had a screw fall out on one occasion and he replaced both screws with longer screws with extra threading so they wouldn't fall out. he also noticed the anti-glare coating was peeling off of my glasses. unsolicited, he reached out to his glass vendor and they agreed to replace my lenses. sung cut the glass and had them ready for me to come in the next day to switch them out. I've since bought another pair of frames from sung and have been extremely happy with all of my experiences with his shop. 5 stars. read more

I bought a pair of Lindberg glasses a few years ago. When I broke them, I settled for a different brand as my optometrist at that time no longer sold them. Being unhappy, I did an online search and found "Eyetailor" that made/sold Lindberg glasses. The store was not only full of many other fun styles but was able to provide an even better pair of Lindberg glasses than I had. I don't just like them. I LOVE THEM!! The lab is on the premises and the precision craftsmanship, quality and care of each pair made was quick, accurate and prompt and with the upmost care. I waited a bit before writing this to ensure my eye wear pleasure wasn't through rose colored glasses. Mr. Kim does not just provide great customer service with his suggestions and attention to detail but is an artist. Other reviewers have commented on the excellent service and selection. What isn't mentioned enough is the quality of the glasses-- the workmanship is exquisite. Most other opticals send out their orders to outside labs to grind the lenses, but here Sung does them himself. I wear a very high prescription. Even with the highest index lenses ('compressed') the edges of my lenses are thick and usually show beyond the frame edge. Sung made my glasses so that the thickest edge of the lenses are flush with the frame, hiding how thick they are. He also modified my glasses to put in custom nosepieces since I don't have a high bridge. They are made of a clear plastic that are disguised well. The optical centers are right-on. The frame is a beautiful Paul Smith model. I actually enjoy wearing glasses now! I highly recommend this place. read more

I found the coolest pair of Blinde sunglasses at a garage sale for $1.00! But as I got in the car noticed the area by the bridge was cracked because apparently the glass lenses expand with time! Quite simply, Eyetailor is fantastic and Sung is a genius. With his patient and caring demeanor he brings a certain calm to what can be a stressful and overwhelming process. His inventory is tremendous and he is a master craftsman at grinding lenses, especially those with my heavy prescription and astigmatism correction. And when I needed an adjustment after a few days I simply visited his shop and he was happy to oblige. I recently purchased a new pair of glasses from another optical place. Sadly, the frames kept slipping down, so I googled nose pads and found Eyetailor. I came in on a Saturday afternoon and I got a call less than 24 hours later indicating my nose pads were put in and I can come pick up my glasses. This place far exceeded my expectations and I love the new nose pads. My glasses are finally sitting where they should and not being propped up by my cheeks. Mr. Kim's shop and business is truly a wonderful experience. He spent more than an hour with me whilst I tried on numerous glasses from his extensive selection. He actually gave me opinions on which glasses suited my face and style. In my experience most people working at eyeglasses shops try to remain neutral in their opinions at all costs. Sung Kim has a warm personality and is an excellent craftsmen. He does ALL of the work himself and is more than happy to customize lens shapes or reposition nose piece mounts to suit your face. His selection is large and you will find all kinds of glasses from hip and cool to classic. I settled on a pair of handmade buffalo horn glasses that are absolutely beautiful. They are one of a kind and tailored to my face. I have worn glasses since I was in second grade, and in 20 odd years I have never received such attentive service and custom made glasses. I always take my time to find the perfect pair of eyeglasses. My aunt was an optician and she always made sure to take her time to help me pick the perfect lenses, so even when I had my prescription I visited several optical shops before I finally found Eyetailor, and my experience was great. One of the first pairs of eyeglasses he put on my face was already perfect, and after debating, and putting several lenses on and off, I finally decided on a brown and beige cat eyes one.
