Hands down earns the "BEST EYE DOC I've ever been to award." Dr Yee deeply cares about the health of her patients and does the most thorough eye exam I've ever experienced. She's a wonderful conversationalist and is genuinely interested in you as a person and not just as a patient. I'm always a bit wary when I have to try a new doctor for anything, but I saw that Dr. Yee got exceptionally good reviews on ZocDoc, so I scheduled an appointment for my annual check-up and to get new glasses - and I'm very happy that I did! Dr. Yee was very nice, personable, friendly, and was both patient and helpful to make sure that I had the best prescription for my eyes. She made sure that I was comfortable with the prescription she was about to give me, that things looked clear both in the exam room and looking outside. The other staff in the store are also very nice and super helpful. The lady at the front desk (I feel so bad not remembering her name now) was very patient in going through nearly all of the frames that my insurance would help cover, and helped me choose the best frames for my face. I am definitely going to come back here next time (I've pretty much gone to a different eye doctor every year for the past several years because I wasn't particularly thrilled with any of the past ones). read more

I went into this shop because it was close to work and convenient. I was greeted by Yamil and I asked him about my glasses coverage with UHC. He looked my insurance up in the system and gave me a breakdown of my costs. He told me that insurance will cover my glasses for up to $130 if the glasses were under $230-250..if they cost more then they are considered luxury eyewear and I would have to pay my glasses out of pocket. That is the first time I have heard of that but sure. (Later I called UHC and they told me there is no such thing and they can cover up to $130 no matter what type of glasses) So I ask him to show me what are the glasses under $250 and he shows me a wall full of Ray Bans and some low grade brand. Not much desirable options. The good stuff were on another wall..with brands like Kia Yamato , Oliver Peoples and italian brands. Of course these were $350-500 and up. I tried on a few pairs and fell in love with a pair of Kia Yamatos but they were $525 and he can't give me a discount because apparently my insurance would subsidize my purchases with lenses. He said or else he could have given me 10% off. I felt like I was being scammed for some reason so I took down the model number and told him that I would try to find this pair of glasses cheaper somewhere else and come back for the lenses which he told me was $90 for anti glare coating (did not give me other cheaper options i can have like $40-70 for medium grade coatings). Of course I was able to find another store that sold the pair at $450 but then found something even cheaper from an online store all the way in Toronto. I got the Kia i wanted for $322 USD (minus insurance coverage). I will not go back to get my lenses but elsewhere that will be more upfront about my options. He picked up a phone call while I tried on glasses and begin helping the person on the phone and i left the store. Thanks Yamil but no thanks. read more

Disgusting attempt at deceptive practices. I brought in a prescription for eyeglasses that was to be covered by insurance. The young lady/assistant told me that it would take 2-3 weeks to get my glasses through the insurance plan, but if they sent the request to their own workshop, it would take only a few days and cost me $295! Needless to say I left the store. There are other optometrists in this city with higher levels of integrity and decency than this one. read more

BEST CONTACT EXAM EVER! Needed a contact exam & I wasn't looking forward to searching for an optometrist that took my plan. I called & spoke to gentleman who was incredibly friendly, yet genuine. He was fantastic, as a customer service manager, game (or shall I say professionalism) recognizes game. After calling, I was actually looking forward to my appt. I've walked this block for close to 20 yrs& never recognized this hidden gem. Upon 1st glance, I was like oh no not another chi-chi boutique shop... but hey I was already here. Dr Yee was amazing & very down-to-earth, not what I was used to when using employee benefits. My exam was extremely thorough & educational. She actually spent time, trying several different lenses on me. Not the standard, we measure you for glasses, but I'll only let you try on 1 pair of lenses. This is the type of experience that I'll come back for - whether I have insurance or not. And I will definitely refer people here. Love this place! I've been searching for a good optometrist in Upper Manhattan for 3 years. I've tried 3 places, but Eyewear on Madison was the best by far. Dr. Elaine Yee and her staff are great. At other places I either felt ripped off or misdiagnosed, but not here. Dr. Yee is patient and ensures she gets it right for you, not to mention she's very cool and down to earth. I'm a full-time professor teaching in the city, so being able to see clearly is super-important for my job--I'm seeing better than ever now! Please beware of this optomotrist Dr,Yee and the rude sarcastic staff of this upper east side Eyewear on Madison. Dr. Yee did her exam and saw something wrong in my left eye she couldn't understand and told me i would have to come back because she had another client coming.No other client came unti lhey closed and the sarcastic staff [a man and a woman] in this vey narrow store told me someone had come but walked out when they saw me arguing because they wouldn't share the information.Yee had gathered.. They called with all three on the phone [two of them laughing] my insurance carrier [with all three including Dr.,Yee listening {in all 3 on the phone} to see if I could get it because.I told them not to charge me since they wouldn't give me the information or a prescription. They couldnt get an answer and said they wouldnt charge me but would not give me any of my test information to carry with me.Two weeks later I went to an opthamologist and found there is bleeding behind my retina. and i am in pain. I would not have delayed two weeks if I had been given the basic information gleaned from the test given by Dr, Yee to whom I had given my current glasses. She did show me {but did not give me the record} that my left eye had changed from 40 to 50 according to her interpretation of her tests. In act"uality according to an opthamologist the vision in my left eye had become 10 times worse "400] than the prescription my current glasses have for my left eye-- That is incompetent in my opinion for her not to at least have given me information in writing because if she had i would have consulted an opthamologist sooner and learned about the bleeding. This used to be a good eye place. Its in my neighborhood but was bought by a new owner about a year ago. My advice-go elsewhere to avoid sarcasm, rudeness and uncaring. Such a shame because the former store was great. In my opinion,t hey exploit the former store's reputation and the fact they are very near to Mt.Sinai.They also have a very sparse selection of inexpensive frames. read more

Nothing gets better than visiting a doctor's place where the doctor gets you in and out without beating around the bush and give you the results that you need. Dr. Yee is very personable and she seems genuinely interested in you as a person. It got even better when I asked Preet for my prescription to take out and without any hesitation she printed me one where as at my previous doctor, they gave me hard time. I wasn't planning to buy anything here but asked if I could look around. I never went to a place where I would try so many glasses and they all looked great. Preet is really good at what she does, she knew exactly what works for my face and knew her stuff when it came to lenses part too. P.S. they have way more glasses than what they display.
