My appointment with Dr. Furman was great and she was very informative and eager to answer my questions, which was much appreciated. The selection of glasses is wide and the customer service is great. The front desk lady is very willing to help select a frame that works well with my facial structure. I had to have my glasses readjusted twice and was pleasantly pleased by the willingness to help. Overall, a wholesome family ophthalmology office. Will be back in 2020 for another pair and another exam!

I wanted to replace the lenses on mine and they quoted me about $450 with insurance. At Costco, I had to pay $90 without insurance. If you've had lasik in the past and currently need contacts, the optometrist will have no idea what to do with you. She kept giving me soft contacts when they were clearly the wrong option for me. I had to read up on it myself. Lasik flattens the cornea and creates small irregularities in it, so soft contacts do not stay in the correct place and usually do not provide the correction you need. She could've done some research instead of asking me to go back to try on different soft contacts. The optometrist actually said I had to go to her again (!!) and try another type of soft contacts before she would give me a referral. I almost rolled my eyes. The poor girl was clueless, and I had better things to do with my time than to hang out at Optyx. I don't know what the rule is for optometrists, but physicians have to prescribe what's best for you, not what's more or less OK.

He said it was $50 (lowest price I have ever heard) and that I need to come in wearing my contact lenses (unheard of for an optician place where I'm coming in supposedly to have my eyes checked). I went in anyways out of desperation - I was on my last pair of contact & need a cheap prescription. Similar to what another customer said before, he has an extremely rude attitude. When I asked him why he needed my address (which he wrote down on a piece of paper, no computer registration no form no anything), he became angry and basically kicked me out. I was so shocked I didn't know how to react, and I was also confused - I was being perfectly polite, why would I get kicked out of the store just by asking a reasonable question? Then I realized that it is illegal per New York State Law to underwrite a prescription without examining the patient, that's exactly what he's doing, and that's the reason why the prescription is so cheap. On top of the illegal practice, this is the first time I have ever been kicked out of a store (without doing anything). TL:DR this is probably the sketchiest/cheapest optician place you could go in nyc. You could basically get a prescription without a proper exam, as long as you shut up & no questions are asked. If you ask any question you will get treated rudely + kicked out. I would have filed a complaint with the state if I weren't this busy.

It took me a long time to straighten it out (with no real help from billing rep Rukshana or manager Sergio). Once that was finally resolved, I was told I could bring my daughter in to get frames. When I showed up, I was told to leave because 'they still didn't have the information.' This was after both Rukshana and the store (over the phone) assured me they did. I got Sergio on the phone, and he said to pick frames (but gave no details on which ones). Then Amina, who I wasn't even speaking to, ran up, shoved a piece of paper in my face with the wrong information, and told me I was wrong. When I pointed out the mistake, instead of addressing it with me, she tried to explain to my minor daughter how I was wrong. I asked her to speak directly to me and stick to facts, but she refused and told me to leave the store. Two other employees just stood there, silent. This was my third wasted trip because of their mistakes. I could have dealt with the errors, but the rudeness and unprofessionalism? Unacceptable. They just lost three customers, me and my two kids (we've been with them 2-3 years). There are plenty of other options nearby, and I would highly recommend avoiding this place. Empire eye care is a good, efficient place to get eye exams, and glasses…read more A family member recommended Empire eye care, being that I needed to get new glasses. The location is easily accessible from all trains, and highways. The exam was good, the eye exam testing equipment was state of the art. Impressed by the newest technology for testing vision. Picked up a pair of glasses. Grateful to the guy that did my exam that helped me choose my new pair of frames. There is a 7 day wait to pick up new frames. However it seemed that my glasses came back fast. Overall my experience was okay, and hopefully yours will be as well.
