I should give them one star but I'll give them 2 because they have a nice selection of glasses. I will not come back to purchase glasses there anymore, I would rather go to my previous provider and pay out of network benefits. I went to purchase a pair of glasses and told them to bill the vision allowance covered by my insurance. They couldn't seem to locate it so I paid the cash price. When I went to pick up my glasses, I brought them the insurance information that they couldn't find and asked them if they could bill and refund the difference to me and the manager said that they couldn't. Their only suggestion was to call my insurance to submit the receipt for reimbursement (which only can be done per my insurance if they are out of network providers which they weren't). I have worked in healthcare field for the past 12 years and I've retroactively billed insurances countless times for my patients if they brought their insurance information and filed manual claims. They wouldn't loose the money either way since my insurance would still reimburse them. I'll take the loss but after this experience, I'll go back to my regular location and pay out of network price or find another provider that provides better experiences to their customers as this is the first time I have had a negative experience with getting my eyeglasses. PS to the owner: I will not let you make me take my review down like I did on Google after you asked me to. Just so you know, I do have the form that you can complete and file a paper claim with my insurance and if you were to get reimbursed which I'm sure you will, you could have refunded me the difference Reply to the owner's response: You did bill my insurance for a complete pair of glasses but I work in healthcare and I have 2 vision insurance plans. You could not locate the second plan so I took my time to locate and bring the information. The superbill for reimbursement only applies to my insurance if you are a out of network provider and you are not so my insurance will not accept it but they will accept a paper claim from your office and reimburse you for your service. I decided to take my family to this place instead of fashion Island and it was a bad decision. I didn't get a choice if I wanted comprehensive exam or basic . I pad a lot more money with my insurance than I did without using my insurance ar the place I went to often. Once all done the girl in the front kept pushing me and my son to buy high end glasses $500 pairs. My eyes didn't get an exam to tell me they wanted a pair of fendi glasses. My eyes and my boys eyes came in for an exam for the better of our eyes not the glasses. Told her no more than a handful of times and she kept insisting on showing me more glasses and then saying I can give you these for 20% off. She became rude when I said one more time my glasses are fine and she said these are not durable.. I'm a mom, I keep my glasses safe and they are what I like and didn't need another pair. Then I call there another day to ask questions about my boys exam and she recognizes my number and says your boys just left here and try es to school me on the different shapes of peoples eyes. I'm a nurse and well aware of different shapes and sizes of eyes and even if I wasn't a nurse it's common sense. I ended up hanging up on her. Then I get my glasses and let me tell you, they were not the right prescription at all. I'm nearsighted and use glasses for driving in the night and could not see at all. It was like a joke. I went in and they wanted to redo the glasses knowing from a previous conversation we were moving out of state which means I wouldn't be here to come back and pick up my glasses. Thing to do here - asked all the questions about insurance coverage prior making the appointment. This place is pretty dishonest to trap you into doing a business here. There is a different exam charge between glasses exam & contact lenses appointments. At this place for VSP insurance , they will charge $ 250 to your insurance for eye exam. They will charge another $300 for contact lenses exam. This place leave a bad taste as the receptionist lied & argued that she informed $50 of cancellation fee during the phone call. I told the receptionist that she didn't communicate about $50 cancellation fee ahead. She didn't admit & kept arguing. I called this place to make an appointment. I explicitly asked whether they'll be requiring my DOB and that I'm not comfortable giving it considering how often the small medical practices get hacked. I was assured over the phone that they will not require my DOB. When I went for my appointment, the staff was persistent to get my DOB. They were also very rude. I denied the appointment and walked out. It was a waste of time because I took half a day off for this appointment. Later I called my insurance company and they confirmed that the business shouldn't have asked for my DOB as it was not required. I would have appreciated if the staff had told me over the phone upfront whether or not my DOB was required for an appointment when I had asked, instead of baiting me into scheduling an appointment and telling me about it while checking in. read more

Recently, I had a terrible experience at eyeXam Optometry Santa Clara. I placed an order for new prescription eyewear and later returned to the store to request a smaller size of the same eyewear. They agreed to make the change. After two weeks, I received a text that my order was ready for pickup. When I went to collect it, however, they had the wrong order - the original, larger size I had first selected. They had to place the order again. The nightmare continued after that. I was told it could take up to three weeks due to the holiday season and delivery of new frame, which is understandable, so I waited. After three weeks, I called to check on the order, and they told me they were still working on it. I waited another week and then went into the store for an update. That's when they informed me they had only received the frame two days ago and were still working on the order. They promised to "rush" it, and said it would be ready the following week. After another week, I called again, only to find out that the lenses had been incorrectly installed and failed their test. I was told to wait an additional 3-5 business days for the order. At this point, it had been almost two months since I first placed the order. With absolutely no update from their end, I reached out again after 3-5 business days, the order still wasn't ready. They told me they contacted the lab for an update, and then came back saying the entire lab is currently in training, which honestly sounds pretty ridiculous. I wasn't able to reach the manager or the person handling my order, as they seemed too busy to take the call. I got a call that evening informing order was ready at the lab and should be ready for pick up in couple of days, and it was ready for pick up the next day. In the end, I finally received my eyewear more than 60 days after placing my original order. I was told that the lab provided a slightly better lens free of charge to make up for the delay in my order. I've been a customer of this optometry for the past few years, but I won't be making that mistake again. I would highly recommend everyone to explore and exhaust all other options before even considering eyeXam Optometry. read more

Very modern and hip, across from Whole Foods Santa Clara, this optometry doctor office/store caters mostly the techies that live nearby in the also super cool apartment complexes. First impression is WOW, all yellow and gray, dual entrance, very airy and spacious. Customers get cookies, chocolates and even the aromas of fresh flowers (the ones who pay attention to details quickly realize that at Eyexam they really care about the small stuff too!). The cater hundreds of different models of glasses plus a fun 'eye bar' (similar to a brow bar that is now so fashionable but instead in a cosmetics store, in a different context and, well, is all about eyes and eye shadows and to make us looking great). I loved that concept, never seen it before. I also liked the customer service and the speed on how I got my glasses from their lab. Initially, I got help from Stanford Ophthalmology and Optometry Center for an eye issue, but as my condition deteriorated due to lack of knowledge of the doctor, they couldn't offer the urgent care I needed and asked me to go back to the emergency room and start all over again for an appointment with the specialist which by then, I would probably lose my eye. I came here for my annual eye exam as it seemed up-to-date with the newest technology. I tried scheduling my appointment a few times online, but was met with an error message. That wasn't much of a problem, I called in and told the receptionist but she didn't say anything about it. I was told over the phone that if they could not find my insurance, they would let me know. I asked upon checking in if they found my insurance. Instead of saying they had not, the receptionist said I may have spoken to someone else. There are 2 doctors here so if you have a preference I'd suggest letting the team know beforehand (just one doctor's name is listed on the drop down on the website, but if you click under "The EyeXam Team" there's two). You sign in on the iPad and have to "agree" to everything to complete the sign-in (I didn't want to dilate my eyes that day). The receptionist told me you may decline service later, but then what's the point? There's an optional scan for the back of your eye that wasn't covered under insurance (extra $39) which I decided to skip. Overall, alright but wasn't blown away by anything. read more

Made an appointment at 2:45pm, got there 5 minutes before the appointment. I waited 50 minutes to be actually seen by an optometrist for an eye exam. I chose this place because it was close by and had good reviews, but this wait time is ridiculous. I never waited so long for an eye appointment. If they can't handle the appointments on time, they should not book so many people. The optometrist was very nice though, and they have some fancy equipment but I'm not sure if it's enough for me to keep coming back. Update: I got computer glasses from the recommendation of the doctor saying it can help prevent headaches. I got the cheapest lens option since I don't really intend to use them for walking around. Turns out the lens is very reflective and very poor quality plastic, virtually unusable. I called to see if I could replace just the lens, and since I already used up my insurance deductible, I would have to pay over $400 to just add anti reflective coating. I had a scheduled appointment earlier this year, and I waited almost TWO HOURS past my scheduled time before I was finally seen by the optometrist. I understand that schedules can get crazy, but someone could have called me and proactively let me know that they were off track for the morning, or even updated me when I checked in, rather than hiding this information and stringing me along. Even worse, because they were running behind schedule, the optometrist was extremely rushed when she finally did see me. I think I was in the exam room for under 10 minutes, and after printing my prescription, she asked me to leave a positive Yelp review. Are you kidding me?! I initially wasn't going to write a review, but I've been experiencing pounding headaches for the last six months, and after chatting with a doctor, we think it may have to do with an incorrect prescription. I brought my 7 yr old daughter here because her teacher encouraged me to get her eyes checked. I paid a little extra for a retinal scan to also be done during the visit. The optometrist had some concerns with results and sent me to an opthomologist. We were told the estimate time to receive is 1 week. In fact, it took us more than 2 months to receive eyeglasses, and contacts are still pending. We understand there might be delay due to holiday season. However, they never update us the status actively. Avoid this place! They got my prescription wrong multiple times, wouldn't call me back, and refused to give me a refund even though I walked away empty handed. Ended up costing me over $1,000 and got nothing but frustration. On their first attempt, they got my glasses prescription wrong and told me the optometrist would call me to discuss. A week or so went by so I called them. They again said that the optometrist would call me back. Another week went by so I called again. Instead of talking to the optometrist, they scheduled me for an appointment to come into the office. This was frustrating as I already waited a couple weeks to talk to the optometrist. They could have just set me up with an appointment to begin with. Anyway, I went in and they agreed the prescription was wrong and would make me new glasses. I had to schedule another appointment to come in and pick them up. When I got the replacement pair, the prescription was wrong again. I went through the same routine of calling and being told that the optometrist would call me back. Again waited weeks with no one calling me back before I call to ask what was going on. They told me to come into the office again, but I told them that I couldn't keep taking time off work for them to correct their mistake. I asked for a refund over the phone and they refused. I dropped off the glasses in-person and asked for a refund but the person at the front desk said she wasn't authorized to issue refunds. She said that the optometrist wasn't available and that I would get a call. (Seems to be their standard response). This time the doctor actually did call me to explain that she couldn't give a refund because part of the payment was for the exam and custom prescription lenses which cannot be resold. I asked for a refund on the frames as these are not custom and can be resold. She told me that due to Covid, she can't even resell the frames. WHAT THE HECK DOES THAT MEAN? Does she mean that she's can't disinfect the frames because I tried them on? That makes no sense because it's typical to try on multiple frames before buying one. Or maybe she means her business is slow due to the pandemic and it's unlikely someone else will buy them? Neither are good reasons not to give a refund. I'm the end, I complained to my insurance company and disputed the charge with my credit card company. I went to another optometrist and they got my prescription right on the first try. All this ended costing me over $1,000 more than if I had just had gone to a different optometrist in the first place. read more
