I speak both fluently, but prefer English. So the men came out to look at the HVAC unit, at 18 years old we knew we may need a new one. I got some pretty good competitive rates from a few people. This company wasn't the cheapest, but they weren't the most expensive either. I wanted something additional done, & Tony explained to me I could spend the money on it but that it wasn't entirely necessary because of the size of my house. Ended up saving me $1500. The workers were respectful of my children and my property. They took precautionary measures to ensure my carpet was protected. Upon completion, they walked through with me to make sure everything was working to my satisfaction. They also made sure I understood the new thermostat and the new filter process. During that time I tried to trouble shoot the issue myself by replacing the capacitor and the switch block. Both did not yield any result. The unit was getting no power to it at all. I figured there was an issue with the Air Handler unit in the attic. I know that was going to be over my head. So I needed an AC person and did not know anyone in the area Solution: I called Precision AC based on a friend's recommendation. I am so glad that I did Scott came by with his assistant Rider listened to the issues and steps I took to troubleshoot. Scott also checked the wiring on the compressor unit and said that everything is pretty much in place. They looked at my Air Handler in the attic and found the issue with the unit. Scott says that a wired had burned out and blew the transformer. Scott and Rider fixed the issue and got the Air Handler unit working. Scott really knows his stuff around AC units. The blowing cool air was music to my ears. Results: If you want a expert on AC units Scott is the person to call. He will troubleshoot the issue and you will find his pricing very reasonable. I can't thank Scott and Rider enough for getting my unit fixed. They saved my from getting cooked in my own home.

It took me a little time as usual to walk up and let him in. I requested him to take his boots off, change the filter in the attic, use the back door to get outside and find me in my room when he was done. Then I took my Asiago cheese and jalapeño bagel I had picked up on my way back and ate it. I worked in my room till Omar was done. I asked him to come in and take care of the invoice and such. He finished off, made sure to lock the back door and let himself out the front. I will lock the front door when I make my trip to the kitchen. I am scheduled to meet a friend of mine in the medical center for lunch. I asked him to meet me at Five Brothers Burgers which is another place which keeps me going back with their great burgers and service.

Anyway, since I had the luxury of shopping for bids during our winter, I opted to get 4 bids before deciding on a final contractor. Think of it this way: How often do any of us shop for central air/heat? I think we shop for cars more often so I wanted to be careful in such a big decision. Here's the rundown: * Fly Comfort Services: Recommended both outside compressor and inside air handler be replaced for $4,700. Cash discount of 2.5%. No charge for evaluation. Found these guys via a fellow Yelper. They were flakier than a Crisco crust on writing up the bid in a timely manner (not a good impression for all that money they wanted to charge me). * Comfort Star: Recommended both outside compressor and inside air handler be replaced for $4,500. Cash discount of 2.5%. Charged $45 trip charge. Found these guys via Yelp search. The owner (Mr. Khoury) was very patient on discussing details and the technician's visit was very thorough (about 1.5 hours). * AC Repair Houston: Recommended only the outside compressor to be replaced for $1,850. No cash discount. No charge for evaluation. Found them via Yelp search. Mr. Jack Jensen is the salt of the earth; actually mentioned that many of his AC brethren have reputations similar to used car salesmen. * M&L Air Conditioning: Recommended only the outside compressor to be replaced for $1,700. No cash discount. No charge for evaluation. Referred by my Realtor who I've worked with on the buying and the selling sides. Winner: M&L Air Conditioning! Mr. Atkins was friendly, down-to-earth, approachable, and informative. He didn't try to sell me on anything unnecessary and even pointed out the pros, cons, and secondary alternatives of the replacement options. He's so confident in his work that he doubled the usual 1-year labor warranty for free. He provided an arrival time window (10 to noon) but, unlike the evil Comcast, he arrived at 1010 AM for his projected 3-hour installation. He even finished 20 minutes ahead of the installation timetable, despite my periodic questions of "What's that?" I wrote him a personal check for the $1,750 once the Goodman 13 SEER 2-ton compressor, condenser pad, and programmable thermostat were installed and tested. With the blizzard of contractor visits, I've learned a lot about the old and new refrigerant standards, the minimum SEER ratings, air handlers, compressor-condensers, pads, duct work, and fair prices for all of these items. I also got pretty dang good at verifying their licenses at the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation website, too. I'm almost sure that I could get an AC contractor license easily with the volume that I know now. Shortly thereafter, Voytek, the owner, arrived and identified the problem: the coil needed to be replaced so he ordered a new one. While placing the order, he learned that it was still under warranty. He also checked for proper vacuum, pressures, voltages, etc., all of which were fine. He also noticed that we needed new hard start kits on both of our units and ordered those as well. He returned the next day and installed all of the above, and also replaced part of the attic duct which needed updating. All parts and labor are under warranty for one year, and the coil for 3 years. We couldn't have been more pleased and appreciated Voytek's professionalism, pleasing personality, thorough inspection, quick service and fair price on what was a very hot time of year.

I can not say enough good things about Gerardo and his company! We have had constant issues with…read moreour AC due to the way the original company installed it. They tried to force it to lean so it would drain and even left a pump sticking out of a whole in the ceiling. They actually did that!! The unit itself should never have been installed in the first place as it did not fit in the space but we had no say in that. So Gerardo had a job on his hands and he did an amazing job! He corrected the drain issue left by the original company, removed the ridiculous pump, rerouted the drain the way it should have been in the first place and even put a second drain to be doubly sure. Now we have a drain connected to the sink plumbing, the tub plumbing and the overflow. We hired him again when we broke it during a remodel by running the AC while we were sanding drywall. It had to be removed from the ceiling to clean, which was a massive job. We recently had a third issue which he corrected and wasn't even going to charge me. I paid him anyway because it had nothing to do with the previous work he had done. I will also point out that Gerardo returns my text and calls nights and weekends. Twice he did not charge me for the visit. I think his prices are reasonable but I have not compared them. I will say, this guy works his butt off and he won't quit until it's working properly.
