We used these guys to move and couldn't be happier! Highly recommend to anyone who needs anything…read moremoved. The guys were amazing with not only our things but our dog as well, they even tossed his ball a couple times for him! Not only was this move the smoothest we've had in a long time but the three guys doing were a dream team! We had a blast chatting with them and hanging out, felt like friends came to help us move! I'll never use anyone else now!

The WORST moving company I've ever dealt with. 801 Moving…read moreCompany is a complete disgrace. If you care about your furniture, your time, or basic human decency -- DO NOT HIRE THEM AND DO NOT BELIEVE THESE REVIEWS. I went out of my way to clearly communicate my expectations before the move: everything needed to be fully wrapped and handled with care. They acknowledged it. They agreed. And then they showed up and did the exact opposite. They didn't even bother to wrap my furniture properly. My dresser and my nightstand were rolled out on a dolly with just a blanket draped over the top -- the entire bottom fully exposed and unprotected. I have photo evidence. This wasn't a mistake. This was how they operate. One of their movers was missing for half the move, and the rest of the crew took 30 minutes to drive across the street. Yes, literally across the street. The level of carelessness and unprofessionalism was beyond anything I've ever experienced. When I confronted them with proof, they first admitted the crew took shortcuts -- then quickly flipped the script and tried to claim that throwing a blanket over a piece of furniture is their "standard practice." That's not a standard -- that's pure negligence, and they had the nerve to defend it. They refused to take accountability. They denied the damage was their fault. And instead of making it right, they offered me a half refund and called it a "goodwill gesture." This company is a scam. They cut corners, gaslight customers, and hide behind empty policies when they're called out. Avoid 801 Moving Company like your furniture depends on it -- because it does. I wouldn't trust them to move a cardboard box, let alone real furniture.

I had mixed results with them, but ultimately things worked out. I was quoted four hours plus an…read morehour of travel, but the move ended taking double that--and because I was paying them by the hour I was pretty frustrated. There was also some confusion over "travel fees" vs "fuel fees", but that appeared to be an error on their end. After talking with them on the phone on the day of the move, and then working with them in the week after the move, we were able to agree on a price that was fair, and I feel like it was appropriate. The movers were extremely friendly and polite, and we never had any problems with damage. They treated all our possessions with care. And the corporate people I worked with were eager to make things right.

I'm absolutely livid about my experience with them…read more First, when I called for my estimate they quoted me $189 per hour, and said it would be about four hours plus an hour of travel. They pressured me into making a down payment to lock in the rate, and I did, because the estimate seemed reasonable. Well, the move ended up taking all day. From 9 till 5. And the workers seemed to be doing everything to draw out the process. One guy was on his phone with friends multiple times. We overheard another telling the new guy "if a job goes past 3:30, they won't make us do a second." And they were so inefficient! The truck had a ramp and an elevator lift, and they used the lift for every single box. They were taking their sweet time. When we got to my new house the foreman handed me an iPad with the charges, and--before I said anything--told me that if I had any issues with it I should call corporate. And then he sat down and got on his phone. Listen: I get that there are travel charges. But we traveled, one truck, from North Salt Lake to Millcreek--maybe 20 miles. So why was the travel charge more than $500 and an ADDITIONAL fuel charge more than $350? And that's to say nothing of the "packing materials" which we never asked for or were quoted about--another $240. And of course now labor was nine hours, not four. And they wouldn't unload the truck until I paid. They were holding my furniture hostage. Well I paid. But I have been told twice over the phone that they are going to investigate, and it's been ten days of nothing. Do not use this company. Especially not the Utah branch.

Business owners keep throwing around "inflation" as the cause, inflation will cause prices to rise maybe 10 to 20%, not 100%.

I gave Smart Move 5 stars then, and chose to use them again this time, despite them being slightly more expensive. We were downsizing from 2400 sqft to a 1200 sqft condo. We had very little furniture and no appliances. The crew arrived on time and seemed physically capable. The loading of the truck went quickly - loaded in about 2 hours. The only plastic wrap used was on a large wicker basket end table. Not our glass gun case, not my piano, not the 1 dresser, not TVs, nor bookcases. The only complaints I had at that point was that we were repeatedly told "that" can't go on the truck. It's too fragile. It will get broken. Isn't that why I hired movers? I understand the cautiousness and can appreciate it to a point. When I questioned why our floor lamp and 4 table lamps could not be taken, I was told - "well if you don't care about them, we can put them on" and finally "you'll have to take off the lamp shades", which we did. The lamps were then neither secured nor wrapped in the truck. We have a 12 year old son with autism who struggles with change and anxiety. He overheard one worker say to the other that his roosmelled like sweat and Cheeto dust. I went ahead to the condo while my husband stayed behind to bring the remaining items. This is where the problems started. I suddenly felt like I was working with a bunch of teenagers that needed to be babysat. All semblance of professionalism was gone. The workers were very loud and disruptive, laughing and joking, despite there being many tenants at home on a Sunday at noon. Their cigarette butts littered the sidewalks. It was at this point I approached the truck to hear them laughing and referring to me as "that bitch". When I waited at the truck to direct things to the garage or condo, two of the three workers took forever coming back. When I went to the condo to direct there, they wouldn't bring anything up from the truck for extended minutes at a time. I estimate the group took 3 or 4 - 15 minute breaks in the 3 hours it took to unload. I can understand the need for frequent breaks for such difficult work, but not when no work was being done, and I'm paying by the hour. Despite there being three dollies, only one was used. 48" TVs were hoisted sideways overhead, while a box of bows and wrapping paper were placed on a dolly and gently monitored the whole way. At one point, my cedar chest full of items was dumped upside down and sideways on a dolly, unsecured and hauled off. When I mentioned the fragile nature of uhhh... everything, I was told oops, sorry. Another time a nicer foyer table was plopped on a dolly with a cube toy cabinet stacked on top. The next trip was a single barstool. I started feeling like my items were being held hostage. It wasn't until my husband arrived and was able to babysit upstairs and I at the truck that the move finally progressed. There was minor damage to a few items. Nothing that we reported. A wire shelving unit with broken assembly pieces, punctured and torn upholstery on a kitchen chair, joints to a bookcase jarred and separated. We understand risks like this are inherent to moving. We paid too much money to have our belongings disrespected and mistreated. The disrespect to myself and my family were a bonus, I suppose. I have pictures I will try to post. Sadly, I recommend going elsewhere.
