Friendly, efficient, great price. Simply drive up near the storage tank, towards the shed. Owner(?) filled our 20gal tank in a couple minutes (~4.7gal pumped I believe), came out to $18.61 out the door. He has a card reader for credit cards, but it didn't work when we tried, so I paid in cash and got a written receipt. Combined with buying the tank new from Costco ($42.99) + the tank fill, you're coming ~$8 ahead compared to buying a new filled tank from a gas station or U-Haul ($69.99?). But the real cost savings comes from refills--instead of paying $30-$40 for a tank exchange, you're paying less than $20 for a fill and get to chat. Looks like he had different tanks for sale if you wanted to get everything there (I might pick up a 30gal in the future) and prices seemed reasonable. Not sure if he sells/refills small camping/hiking tanks..I assume so but will ask next time. It's only a couple minutes off the 163 so easy to get to as well. New hours yay! They are open 7 days a week which just gave you the extra star! Before I would have to check if they are open and Sundays they were not open, so we would always time it against our errands. We like this place because you pay for propane you need to fill it even if it's not completely empty. This makes it easier because I can never tell if there's more in it when I exchange. Now I use what I need to and get what I need to filler up! The man here is super, super friendly. Some days there's a back up with customers but other days we drive right up. It's like a drive thru so just stay in your car and line up. No need to park and walk up to bring the tanks to get filled. When it's your turn take out your tanks and he will fill them up! read more

I've been going to this place for at least five years. I went this morning and the grey haired super rude guy was working. I proceeded to pull up like I have for the last 20 times. I get out to get my canister to get refilled and the donkey asks me if my truck runs on propane???!! Right away from his attitude I knew we were going to have a problem. He starts telling me I parked in the wrong spot even though it's exactly were I park every time?? He starts acting like it's a real PITA to help me out, so I said I'll just go somewhere else. I told him F OFF!! I'll never go to that place again!! I'd rather pay more than be treated like that by some old grouchy prick. read more

The best place to get your propane tanks refilled. This is a better alternative than exchanging your tank at Walmart or Home Depot. It is much more cost-effective to fill your propane tank as opposed to exchanging it for many reasons. One is that you can maintain your tank, and the other is that you are not ever returning any propane. They also fill your tank more than the tanks that you exchange for have in them so it is a better deal. read more

I live way down south but, when I need a propane tank refill for my office heating, I usually head for Expo on a day I have to be up north anyway. The two dudes that rotate shifts there do what they do well and with a corny and sometimes witty humor. If I spent most of my day in a little shack, I'd be just as crazy. ;) The price is the best in the area. If you can go outside of normal busy times - don't go when everyone else is trying to get a tank filled during their lunch hour - there's usually no wait. If the line is long, go get lunch and come back later. :) Note that they are the *only* place that *won't* fill a tank if the date code shows the tank is too old or if it's too rusty. Most places don't even know about the date code laws. (I'm not criticizing them for this, but know this before you go: If your tank is too old, go someplace else and swap it out instead.) Note: I've had less luck with any of this at their downtown location. This is *only* about the Kearny Mesa location. read more

I was a first time propane buyer today, and decided to come here based on the pretty positive yelp reviews. The attendant who was working there was very nice, answered all my questions, took my empty tanks and filled them. Right now, the price of anything petroleum based is quite high, but I would say it felt like the price I paid was very fair. I bought my empty tanks from Ace Hardware, but in retrospect, I would've preferred to have bought them from them because they sell empty tanks at a very reasonable price, cheaper than what I could get at the hardware store. Definitely recommended. Quick service too. read more

No propane for you! Cracked your driver's door open before it's your turn while in line )15-30 minutes) No propane for you! Pulled up too far or too close or past the (imaginary, they have none on the ground) lines around the filling area...you guessed it....no propane for you. You can't even pull your credit card out too soon without getting yelled at by this guy. And Bread?! You wanted bread?! (To insert your card rather than tapping it to pay) expect a major meltdown by the propane N@zi the likes of which will make you NEVER want to return. UHaul will continue to get my propane business. UPDATE 3 YEARS LATER: Been going here for the last 3 years to refill my bbq and RV propane tanks, the service has been excellent every time. I've been coming here on n off for around 3 yrs to fill my RV propane tank and various individual tanks. Problem is that very frequently there is no one here when they are supposed to be. Very frustrating to load up tanks and get there and find no one is there. I arrived today a little before noon again there was no one there even though this was in the posted business hours. Been going here to get my propane. I came in today and asked if they give veterans discounts. The reply was " no they don't deserve it". I then asked if he was a veteran and he said " no I am not that dumb". I went to pay and he quoted it was $27.15. I told him I had the .15 cents. He said "don't worry about it".
