So the day of my appointment she sees my hair and goes "oh no there's no way that's all your hair" I said "it is haha" then we go to her tiny 4x4 suite with her 2 children & husband (overly crowded). I sit down and she only has TWO packs of hair??? And not even the color I requested... so I told her that's not what I wanted & she said "oh you have to go get it yourself then" so I go to the hair store and I texted her to see what brand to get & she told me then proceeded to say "and since you have a lot of hair you need to get a big container of this gel too" ??? Excuse me??! Just because I have a lot of hair doesn't mean I am going to do your job and buy the products that YOU should have already purchased. She was also VERY ROUGH RIPPING through my hair! No care in the world for anyone's hair & very unprofessional! Also I requested SMALL KNOTLESS (Any size any length!???) even sent her a picture of the style and she said she can do it. When turning in to the complex it is residential condos, but rest assure by making your way to the first tower you will find. There is NO sign until you pull up to a main door entry. I spoke with them on the phone to make an appointment for my son. They accommodated him quickly. I then had to call for directions a few times. Everyone was kind and helpful. When still unsure of location the owner Dominic came out the door to confirm. He provided instructions on parking. Look for visitor/open parking. There are reserved resident parking Once inside my son was introduced to Nancy, an older woman. The clientele is mostly retired women that live in the community. However, Dominic would love to dispel that. They are open to anyone in the community and traveling like us. Only caveat is to call for appointment, they are not walk-in. Nancy worked with my son to accomplish what he needed prior to a swim meet today. She was terrific to work with and completed a nice cut in 15 minuets, or so. Price $15 for child. I came in at 9:00 am (the only slot they had- they seem to book up fast), and my photoshoot was at 4:00 so I was a little nervous- but my hair held up wonderfully and I'm obsessed with the photos. The overall look of the salon was clean and nice but this specific person's work station was dusty and full of hair like they didn't clean it for a long time. I could've gotten over a lot of things (starting an hour and half late, the hair not being there when it was included, the wrong length being purchased, the hair not being human and synthetic mixed as advertised, the install being so tight I couldn't sleep without icing my scalp, the original stylist kindly loosening the locs but me still experiencing extreme discomfort, weeks of scalp irritation from the cheap hair, not being able to pull my hair up for a month, etc.). My soft locs with curly ends were cute and the original stylist even added some loose curls for me, so I really could've gotten over it all. However, the experience I had with the takedown is unforgivable. I'll preface by saying I took out the back two rows myself but stopped so I wouldn't accidentally cut my hair. When I called, the owner explained how important it is for them to take the locs out since they put them in. She said stylists were available and someone would take care of me. I got there and waited three hours for a stylist who ended up butchering my hair--chopping off three-four-five times its original length, in the back, top, sides, and front of my hair. Not only did she leave my Afro with complete gaps, she also thinned out and cut random places in my hair shafts. I included pictures of some of the damage. It's one thing to accidentally clip someone's ends but another to make the same mistake (significantly worse in places) throughout my entire head. Like what kind of "professional" does such a poor job? It's a miracle that I have as much hair left as I do considering how careless she was... She never apologized or gave me a heads up that she cut my hair. I only noticed when I pulled my into a high bun and had a chunk of cut hair sticking out in the back. When I spoke to the owner, she initially seemed like she could care less but when I started explaining and showing her the undeniable damage in front of customers, she took me to the back to talk. She expressed how it was supposed to be done very carefully and how she would've scolded and corrected the stylist (who is allegedly new) had she been there. The owner offered a free detangle, shampoo, condition, deep condition, and blow dry to compensate and make things easier for me when I got home to do my hair. I politely declined and told her I just wanted my money back and to go home. After what seemed like an attempt to guilt trip me and her husband acting like he didn't know how to work Zelle, I got my $97 back and left. They always have people in the shop for braids so I maybe I picked the wrong style but now I can never go back nor can I recommend the shop to anyone.

I went back to Mary on 03/02/2024 and received box braids with extensions. I brought my own human hair ($80) and Mary told me that the hair was "too slippery" but she still did the install. She charged me $100 (I gave her $150). Yet after a week the hair came undone. I reached out to her and she told me she would redo my hair but that she would provide the hair free of charge. I went back the following Saturday on 03/09/2024 and she redid the braids using some kanekalon (which I am not a fan of). Nonetheless, I trusted she knew what she was doing. Absolute mistake. First, the hair was unmanageable and stringy. I also itched. Second, the middle part was absolutely crooked and third she didn't seal or put rubber bands on the ends. That was when I reached back and told her that this was unacceptable (I still paid her the second time with a $30 tip). She told me that she would redo my hair free of charge and that I should just get the cornrows. Being reasonable, I agreed because I did not want her to do the same style again. Today is 04/03/2024, I have tried making an appt with her multiple times to no availability. She either ignores my calls or she's not available. It almost a month later. This is unacceptable and unfortunately it's indicative of her character and service. I hate to harp on someone's job but I was fair on my part and I guess she is only good at cornrows, but even then her customer service and attitude stinks.
