I scheduled my daughter for a trim with hair stylist "MICHELLE" . Worse service I've ever received in my life!!! I asked her to not cut my daughter's hair so short, that we just wanted a trim. She became noticeably upset and began to speak to me aggressively and loud. She didn't provide a towel to dry my daughter's hair. I walked in for a quick trim today, no appt my cuts take about 10 minutes. Ive been coming here to the greeenbelt store for about 6 years. The person in the photo just told me she is working but she won't take me because I didn't like the way she cut my hair, which is not true. She's been sitting in that chair doing nothing for the past 40 minutes and she didn't check with anyone else to cut my hair when I came in. She never smiles, doesn't interact positively with customers and has a chip on their shoulders all the time. She needs to be restrained or retooled. My stylist at the Hair Cuttery in Greenbelt is Jameela. She does an excellent job with caring for my hair. She washes your hair and make sure it is squeaky clean. She will ask you how does it feel before she starts to condition your hair. She does a superb job with flat ironing and curling my hair. Overall, she has a pleasant personality and I would recommend to her manager that she should be on staff more than just Tuesday's and Sunday's. Previously, I would get my hair done on Thursday's. That was the perfect day for me. I would like to have more choices than just those two days to frequent that shop. if you're looking for a stylist, I would consider you making an appointment with Jameela. The ladies at the front were kind, asked for layers and the lady who did the service did terrible. She asked "how many inches?". I told her 2, she cut off way more. My hair was medium length, and I ended up leaving with a bob with chunky layers. Before the service she was asking if I would like to get my hair washed. I said no assuming she was going to at least spray my hair with water for her to be able to cut my hair. She didn't and then said "it's easier to cut hair with wet hair". Normally, when I get my layers cut at other places, they at least spray your hair with water before the cut. Will not return. Don't recommend. read more

I have visited this Hair Cuttery before and generally had positive experiences, but my visit today was deeply disappointing. I booked an appointment for a deep conditioning treatment and blowout for my neck-length natural, textured hair. Given my previous visits, I expected the same level of professionalism and care but unfortunately, this was not the case. From the beginning, the experience was frustrating. During the wash, my stylist Aliya handled my hair in a way that created more tangles rather than reducing them. Her technique not only encouraged breakage but was also painful-- she was essentially raking through my hair. I politely asked her to hold my hair at the roots and detangle from ends to roots, which is standard best practice for natural hair. Despite my request, her methods remained rough and careless. As the session continued, it became clear that I would not be leaving as a satisfied customer. My roots were still curly, and the back of my hair was damp. I had to specifically ask her to go over the area with a dryer and brush again. However, instead of drying my hair section by section-- an essential step for achieving a proper blowout-- she brushed in random directions, further compromising the outcome. When I pointed out my discomfort, she claimed that my sensitive scalp made it difficult to do a thorough job. She also stated that because I have tighter curls, pain during the styling process was to be expected-- a response that felt dismissive and unprofessional. When I asked if she had experience working with textured hair, she stated that she did. However, her defensive attitude when I inquired about her tools suggested otherwise. I specifically requested that she use a round brush, and her reaction was unnecessarily combative. At one point, she even suggested re-washing my hair so another stylist could show me what brush they would use, but I didn't have time for that. After some back-and-forth, she offered to pass through my hair with a blow dryer and paddle brush one more time. Overall, I left feeling that this stylist lacked the skill, patience, and receptiveness necessary for working with natural hair. I would have appreciated someone who was more professional and open to feedback to ensure I left with a style I was happy with. It's worth noting that other stylists at this location have handled my natural hair with care and achieved excellent results. This experience proves that it is possible to style natural hair without causing pain or breakage--it just takes the right knowledge and technique. Unfortunately, I'm not sure I will return to this salon, and I will certainly avoid this stylist. read more

I requested a wet set with Jennifer. She gently washed and conditioned me. What a great hair wash! All the time she was washing, she was asking if I had any itchy spot. She addressed the itching areas. She was pleasant and did not stop until I said the itch was gone. She worked quickly rolling my hair. When she put me under the dryer, it was nap time for me. I always ask for Tam to cut my hair. She knows just how I want it cut and it stays looking good for several weeks after the cut. Tam does a great job, is friendly and professional. She's very patient in dealing with my hearing problems, as I can't really keep my hearing aids in during the shampoo and cut. Look, I don't have time to be sitting in a hair salon all day to get a trim so it is common for me to pop into a HC, because in my mind everyone's (yes everyone's) that has gone to somebody's mamma 'n nem's beauty school should be able to provide me with a trim. I should have listened to the reviews. I received the worst haircut of my life and the worst customer service here. I called before I went in, I was told that it was a 30 minute wait. When i showed up just 5 mins later, it turned into 2 hours. I stuck around because i didn't want to drive home and come back. I saw a two employees outside and wanted to know who the best person was to go to and they looked like I shouldn't even talk to them. My hairdresser esteranga (i may have spelled that wrong) was not pleasant. When she started cutting i let her know that one side was shorter than the other. She seemed to be getting an attitude and a bit frustrated with my concern. Eventually i just said forget it because the more she messed my haircut up the more hair she would cut off. Ladies if you looking for a straight blunt cut i wouldn't recommend going to her. I even told her that i was sorry for being difficult, her response was "don't put words in my mouth". This location has gone extremely downhill. I used to come here regularly for wash/blowdries and was always charged $36. The last time I visited, I was asked to pay $50 with no explanation as to why. Today, I made an appointment to be seen at 12:15. I called and let the receptionist know I was running 15 mins late. She told me it was no problem and she'd let my stylist know. When I arrived, I was told I needed to wait until 1 and my appointment was considered a "walk-in" because I didn't request a specific stylist? I finally sat for my service and received a very sub-par blowout that I could've done myself. At the end, I asked to pay a portion in cash and a portion on my card. After 10 mins of trying to figure out how to do that on the computer, I was told I was being charged $8 on my credit card. I was charged the full amount of the service plus tip. read more

Came in for a wash and blowdry and feel I was overcharged. I was charged for having "long hair" but my hair was in a bun when I came in and BARELY goes past my shoulders. Hair Cuttery is fairly close to where I live, and so it's pretty convenient for me to get here. There is Starbucks nearby that one can leech off the wifi for. I'm Asian, and I have an Asian shaped head. If you don't believe me, look the place where the neck meets the back of the head on the next Asian guy (or one with short hair in the back) you see. The backs of our heads are a lot flatter than Caucasians. Just a fact of nature I guess. That's why I like to go to Asian cosmetologists. They understand that better than most. When I want a haircut, I either go and wait or make an appointment with Tam. She's Vietnamese and consistently gives me a fast great hair cut. I've had my hair cut by others in that shop, but they don't do as good a job as she does. Therefore, if she's not available, I reschedule. Tam has always been nice, she recognizes me and I really never have to wait more than 20 minutes to get my hair did. read more

I've been trying this location off and on for about two years now because of convenience, and they've been getting progressively worse, both in the quality of the haircut and customer service. I went into the Hair Cuttery today looking for a simple trim. The instructions I gave to the stylist were that I wanted her to take two inches off the bottom and add some layers. The results were tragic. A small child could have cut my hair better than this stylist. One side is completely shorter than the other and the layers are way too harsh and not blended at all. She was also kind of rude when my head wasn't at the right angle and she would forcefully move my head with her own hands without warning me. read more

I randomly selected a stylist and when I got to the appointment, my stylist politely informed me that she would not be the best to do my hair. I can respect that. I didn't know what to expect. I'm African-American and as such took a chance on a stylist without knowing whether or not the stylist could manage my hair texture. (I've been to places before where I was told that the stylists weren't able to do with my hair.) Pre-Covid, I'd occasionally visit Dominican hair salons. In any case, I wanted to try "something different"--less heat. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. I received the cut and color (highlights) by Esperanza. Initially, I was nervous: I rarely cut my hair, but I'm glad I took a chance. I will be returning in hopes to receive follow-up services by Esperanza. Overall, all Hair Cuttery did an excellent job in servicing and receiving clients, safely and professionally. I was treated with with the utmost respect and provided excellent customer service! They lack the proper techniques for black women with natural hair. This review is based on 3 ignorant mistakes I experienced on my visit. 1. When conditioning natural hair, one should detangle the hair while the conditioner is setting. 2. After wash, detangle hair. START AT THE TIP OF HAIR, THAN WORK TOWARDS THE ROOTS. 3. Before applying heat, moisturize and coat the hair with a oil that will protect from heat damage. My hair was not properly detangle during the conditioning process( this leave loose hairs), the lady combed my hair starting from middle than force the knots out (causes hair to break and rip), and she used a blow dryer on my hair with out mosturizing it.....literally from the sink to the blow dryer( causes dry hair, more likely to be rip) read more
