It's stood the test of time. I used to bring my daughters here often when they were young. As we entered there was a couple on the first table... but as soon as we chose our table groups of 3 and 4 entered so all tables were filled. When we were about to pay our bill another couple came in and sat at the counter where one customer waited for her takeout order. Hubs had a won tun ramen and I got the mochiko chicken curry udon- oishi(delicious), flavorful nice and hot. The noodles were cooked perfectly. I gave hubs my mound of bean sprouts and he ate all my mochiko chicken even the cabbage beneath except one piece. We didn't order any gyoza today cuz we can't have any left overs by tonight. Small, satisfying restaurant shows it's been around a long time. There is one tell tale sign giving that away. Three employees were visible and perhaps were there long enough to perfect their separate duties to be able to turn out meals so tasty quickly. Updated 2 years later - lowered my rating. Spur of the moment stopped in for gyoza. As I sat at one of the tables waiting for my order, I saw the cook pick up the gyoza with his bare hands to place in the wok. No gloves was a turnoff! As I sat at one of the tables waiting for my order, I felt so "unclean" looking at the floor especially. The whole place felt unsanitary. Looks like personnel changed. Saw just one cook (no apron on) and a waiter who also rang me up. I did stop in real quick a few weeks previously to inquire about gift certificates. I saw the same two guys. Service wasn't enthusiastic or welcoming but he wasn't rude. The waiter patiently answered my questions about prices and portions. He apologized because what I ordered wasn't what I got. It may have been partly my fault for not being clearer - and he not repeating the order. I placed another gyoza order and waited again. The place wasn't as busy with only one couple at the table. I think if my memories are right....Ezogiku was started by a Japanese ramen chef too long to remember when he started! We went to their ramen restaurant to remember their ramen. Although chefs are trying to make it the ramen we knew it's alright but unfortunately we were not fully satisfied with their soup and toppings. I myself a kitchen helper staff during my college days and thereafter the owners especially the Japanese chefs were always strict about on how we place the condiments of the teishoku (various kinds of mini dishes all in one bento style boxes) and in the ramen toppings! May I say that when serving Japanese ramen the chefs put on the condiments nicely not only to appealingly to the eyes of the clientele but their long hours of standing and cooking time. They have a Three Item Combo if you order any Ramen Entree or Rice Bowl Entree, you can get a Mini Fried Rice and 4 pieces of Gyoza for $5.95...we ordered 2 Combos. The ramen and broth was good and I really enjoyed the charsiu so I think I'm going to order the Charsiu Ramen the next time to get 3 pieces. We liked the gyoza but as for the Pork Fried Rice...it was AWESOME! I love eating fried rice but just couldn't find a place that stood out...this one did! When I looked at it, it didn't look like it would have too much taste but looks are deceiving...It was sooooo tasty! Had leftover, so took it home and it was still tasty the next day. I came back to order just the Pork Fried Rice 2 more times after that...all in January 2026! It was tasty just like the first time! I'll be back for the charsiu and fried rice! We love this shop. We've been coming here for so many years, but with kids and a stroller it does get hard to come and eat out because this place is a little tight and small inside so bringing strollers/wheelchairs would be a little difficult and uncomfortable. With that being said, there is usually one person taking orders and serving and ringing you up so it does make up for the place being small because they are able to get to each person without too much of a wait. Every single time you come in here the food is always consistent and that's what we love about it. Also their combos are great and well priced and you do get full. We usually always take home food, no matter what because with the 3 combos, it does feed you well. Rice, ramen gyoza. Or the curry. Yum. Inside is a bit rundown, but they've been here for so long. You can tell that they're one of the OG's in the block. OM GOD - After this evening's shocking experience "What could improve" ?!!! - Just about "EVERYTHING" !!!! I am a long time customer and over the years have touted the "outstanding and exceptionalnist" of this old-time RAMEN noodle restaurant especially in light of the booming popularity HERE and on U.S. Mainland - All over Japan and South East Asia. CHINA where "ramen" was originally invented and developed to such a high degree for centuries is still unmatched. Anyway enough history - I am overly concerned and frankly upset with what I just observed tonight after finishing my "Won Ton Ramen / Gyoza side-order" - As I was paying my BILL I happened to notice the main cook, and probably OWNER, dash to a portable AC unit that was situated near the front door entrance and with his bare hands pickup a sopping wet green hand towel that was just laying on the floor that had been soaking up all of the excess running water pouring from that AC unit. He then ran back to the stove area and dropped that filthy soaked green hand towel onto a large open pot that was used to replenish the boiling water that the other pots required as the cooking liquid slowly began to cook away. Ewwww I was "SHOCKED" and suddenly got sick to my stomach with the food I had just consumed from those same cooking liquids in those open pots. I ABSOLUTELY WILL NOT BE RETURNING TO EAT ANYTHING FROM "EZOGIKU" IN WAIMALU EVER AGAIN !!!!!!!!! I obviously have the extremely urgent obligation to also make a very "SERIOUS" complaint to the Hawaii State HEALTH Department first thing in the morning !!!! read more

on a cold weekday the fam was craving some saimin. we decided to drop in to ezogiku. place was full of locals as usual but we got a table right away. we picked our meals and unks took our order right away. old school ambiance reminds me of small kid time. we decided to deviate from our normal orders and try something new on the menu. we went with saimins only and I tried a chicken vegetable just to see what that buggah tasted like. was definately different but I ate it all. flavorful chicken broth and alot of vegetables with pieces of chicken I tried different sauces. enjoyed exploring the menu. was a very inexpensive adventure. read more

Longtime Mainstay in Aiea, located in the Waimalu shopping center, havent been here for a while and was craving miso ramen so drove down for a late lunch. Place was empty when i arrived, ordered the miso ramen with the 4 piece gyoza and mini fried rice set. Prices have gone up considerably since i last was here. Ramen came first piping hot, which was a plus. Charsiu was much thinner and the bean sprouts sparce as compared to before. Gyoza size looked smaller along with the Fried rice portion also. Service was nonexistent, Ordered food, got it, no refill on water. Had to flag down the worker to get my check. Very unfriendly. The waitress was kind of rude to us, then a Japanese lady and her friend came in and she was so friendly talking Japanese to them and took their order right away before us even though we were there before them. Nostalgic place that has a solid bowl of ramen and fried rice. Ezogiku used to be on University Ave and it brings back those memories of eating there with friends. The Office quote hits hard with this place, "I wish there was a way to know you're in the good old days before you've actually left them." Is it from a certain prefecture? Probably not. It has basic flavors like shoyu, miso, shio, and a few others. What is my go-to? Well it's won ton ramen with fried rice. I sometimes get it with gyoza, but they can subtract it and adjust the combo cost. The fried rice is wok tossed and has a nice flavor...Pork fried rice is just great. Always good. Never had a bad scoop here. The won ton broth is clean and has a hint of ginger or that might be coming from the won tons? The prices have gone up through the years, but that's to be expected. Main thing is at the end of the meal I'm full, satisfied and didn't spent over $20 for lunch. I love that you can see them make everything at the bar. They have no back of house here. I would normally go to the Pearl city location, however after they closed, this was my place to go. Shrimp fried rice always hits the spot and their gyoza is one of my favorites! I am not too much of a fan of Ramen however, I tried it this time still rather have the fried rice. The location is very small and limited. no entertainment just so quiet like it's a library. I was visiting my parents in Aiea from Texas and I was so jonesing for ramen couple of days ago, but due to the bad food we were served many years ago, we haven't been back to this establishment we once frequented prior to. I told her it's been many years, so we should try this place again and she agreed. I've learned that this establishment has changed hands since we've been here last. I ordered seafood champon and gyoza(4 pieces)and my mother ordered ramen, fried rice and Gyoza combo and she chose Chuka ramen(Chinese style ramen with roast pork). Mine was very good and the noodles were al dente. I was pleasant surprised. The only thing I would ask next time is that I'd order without the pieces of fish, bc I didn't know what kind of fish it was(I only eat certain kind of fish)and I was scared to find out since I already drank the broth(So delicious). My mother also agreed that the noodles were al dente and delicious, but the broth was too dark and it wasn't to her liking. Gyoza was very good, but we each only ate one and took the rest home for my father's dinner along with the fried rice. She said she took one bite of fried rice and said it was very tasty. We initially started coming here after UH football games because they were one of the few places near the stadium that stayed open late. They are close enough to the freeway on-ramps and worth the stop to enjoy a steaming hot bowl of ramen. This unassuming restaurant is not as flashy as the Waikiki location, but they sure can crank out perfectly cooked noodles! The owners are very friendly especially the wife. Miss seeing her and chatting. Now that there are no football games at the Halawa stadium, we don't go as often to dine in, but have been ordering takeout. The items are always packed nicely, steaming hot, ready in no time and delicious! If you are a bean sprouts lover, you can request to add on for a nominal charge. If you can't decide what to order, get one of their combo meals...a little bit of everything. My spouse introduced me to Ezogiku (the beloved and long-gone Waikiki location on Kalakaua, to be exact) in the early 2000's. Slowly by slowly their other locations (Don Quijote, Royal Hawaiian SC, University and Pearl City) started to close, leaving this sole location sporting the original menu. The name still lives on in Waikiki via a new restaurant but it features a different, smaller menu. ATMOSPHERE: Located in the Waimalu Shopping Center, parking is adequate. The inside brought back memories of the unkempt Kalakaua location, complete with the green Formica countertops. The only downfall is that it's not clean. Dust on the ledges, grease spots abound, clutter and even two newborn roaches (the size of ants but still a roach nonetheless) that made an appearance on the countertop where we sat. MENU: Ramen, rice and gyozas. FOOD: Fried Rice Oh man, these guys make the tastiest version ever! Looks plain but it has a unique flavor, possibly from that well-seasoned wok! Comes stir fried with egg, pork, green onions and kamaboko (fishcake). Highly recommended! Shoyu Ramen - $9.50 For me, this is the benchmark for all shoyu ramens. The simpler, the better, I say. The piping hot broth was perfectly balanced in boldness, savoriness and garlicky notes. Toppings were bean sprouts, kamaboko slice, green onions and a thin slice of charsiu. Noodles were eggy and al dente. Two yums up! SERVICE: Welcoming, friendly and attentive. The food came out lightning-quick and hot despite have just one chef in the open-view kitchen. These guys have been around longer than Ramen-Ya. The saimin is way better and they give a bigger bowl and quantity of it. They serve less fried rice though which is still better than Ramen-Ya and other places similar to it. The price for a two piece shrimp tempura was $6. Way too expensive. Stopped by for a quick lunch on a Saturday after 1pm. Got my choice of table, so I picked a counter seat. You get a good view of the chef preparing your meal, so I recommend it for those who like to watch food made. Ordered the mini combo D with a mini Wonton Ramen and 4pc. Gyoza. The ramen comes with a slice of charsiu, 4 wonton, a piece of fish cake, and green onions. The broth is shoyu flavor and was no too heavy. The noodles were on the thinner side, but well cooked with a good chew. The charsiu and wonton were delicious and the wonton had a nice porky pop when you bite into them. The Gyoza were juicy and the cabbage had a bit of crunch left for a good texture contrast. The wrappers were thin, but had a good chew and held the filling in well. They have sauce bottles on the counter and tables so you can customize your dipping sauce to your liking. A nice place for a solid bowl of Ramen and Gyoza for a quick meal. Ezogiku is located at the Waimalu Shopping Center. It is a small restaurant with limited seating. The parking lot is shared with the other businesses in the center so it can be hard to find parking during certain hours. My dad, sister, and I came here for an early lunch at 11:00 am on Sunday. There wasn't anyone dining in at the restaurant at the time we went so there was no wait time to be seated. I ordered the Beef Sukiyaki Bowl. The bowl comes with rice, beef, noodles, tofu, cabbage, and red pickled ginger. The portion is generous and fulfilling.
