Shaka Ramen was good. The garlic black ramen was the highlight, and I'd definitely recommend it. The broth was great. It came out hot, had a lot of flavor, and was powerful without being too salty or too rich. The black garlic gave it a deep flavor, though it did get slightly bitter toward the end, which I think is just part of the blackened garlic style. The ramen itself had good taste and texture. The egg was pretty typical, but solid. The pork was great. There was one piece, and it was super soft. It was not heavily soy-flavored, which I actually liked even though I usually like the soy flavor The big surprise was how good the sides were. The fried rice was excellent. It had good flavor, was very moist without being soggy, and had a nice smoky flavor with enough salt and egg. There was even pork in the fried rice, which made it feel more complete. With the naruto and everything else mixed in, it was really good. The gyoza was probably frozen, but I can't really complain. First time at this place and my wife any I both got the combination sets. I got a black garlic ramen with fish katsu and fried rice and she got the shoyu ramen and the curry rice. The char siu piece in the ramens were nice! Service was prompt. One thing to note is if you get curry rice as part of the combo, no beef pieces are included. We got the special combo, Fried rice was so good with a lot of fried rice to share The shoyu ramen was a good broth, not too salty just right My favorite broth was the tonkotsu, such a perfect broth Gyozas were great I like that they offer garlic chips on the table and shoyu vinegar tobasco and gyoza sauce you don't have to bother them for sauce lol. The udon noodles were cooked so perfect. Chewy, soft, long, and delicious! The gyoza could have been pan fried just a tad longer, they did not have much of a crisp to them, but the flavor was spot on! The ramen had al dente noodles that were very good with the perfect texture and flavor. Adding soy sauce may the bite perfect. Last time I was in this location was the previous ramen shop.... Wasn't that good. However Shaka Noodle stepped up and is better. Food selection and choice of noodle is the way to go for their dishes. Service was great for a casual dining restaurant. The staff was attentive making sure your needs were met. The bathroom is outside the front door to the back of the restaurant- a door leading to the kitchen, then a sharp left to the potty. Read the reviews, and I know it's been around for several years, but never tried this place until I decided to ask my friends to go since we were around the area. Black garlic ramen - 4.5 stars. The charsiu is unique because it has a smoky taste on the sides, and they give thick slices. Huge servings of every item we ordered. The soup was pretty good, but it didn't have a strong black garlic taste compared to other ramen restaurants. My friends ordered the oxtail and shrimp ramen, and lots of oxtail as well as large shrimp on top of the ramen. They loved the soup. The chicken katsu was huge and flavorful, but a little on the oily side. Service - 5 stars - service was great. Server was friendly and attentive. Parking - lots of parking, but crowded. I did not see a sign to scan the QR code for the parking as we drove in, and turned right into the front of the restaurant, as other yelpers mentioned, so not sure where it is, but at least nothing happened to my car. read more

Parking is odd because it looks like free parking but you have to scan this QR code and enter your license plate to me its more bs. first 2 hours free then it $5... really wierd. Noodles, katsu and char siu so thick, you won't need to eat anything else! Located conveniently in Aiea off of Moanalua Rd, they offer the best broth you could ask for in a ramen. We had tan tan ramen that hit just the right bit of spicy. The tonkatsu ramen was pork centered and delicious. Their servings are plentiful and side orders like gyoza are also wonderful. Felt like eating ramen and remembered about this place located in Aiea Town Square right next door to Young's Kalbi. I ordered the Special Combo which comes with ramen and 1 or 2 choices of entrees: - For the noodles, you can choose between ramen or udon, choice of Miso, Shoyu or Shio broth OR add $2 more if you want TanTan, Tonkotsu, Curry or Black Garlic broth. I chose the ramen with Miso broth. It didn't have too much taste and did not taste like miso. - Entree choices are Mini Curry Rice, Mochiko Chicken, 4-piece gyoza, Calamari, Mini Pork Fried Rice, Takoyaki, Croquette, Shrimp, Fish, Chicken or Spam Katsu. I ordered the Mini Curry Rice and Chicken Katsu. Both were okay...nothing stood out except maybe the katsu sauce...this was good. I was disappointed with the katsu pieces...it didn't look at all like the pics people posted on Yelp or their menu. What I received looked like scraps, it had more batter than meat. For the amount of food I got for $15.25, it's pricey...a little over $5 a dish but I'm guessing it's because you're paying for a variety of food you receive. read more

Okay I've eaten here three times as it's literally at the bottom of the hill from our house. I'm a fan of Mapo Tofu Soup, love the spiciness, the thicker viscosity and the silky tofu that together makes this a perfect soup for me. Unfortunately both times I've ordered it I was disappointed. This last time the soup broth was too thin, I didn't even add the accompanying miso because it was so weak. Once I pulled the udon noodles through the gravy broth it was watery and nearly flavorless. There was maybe half the amount of tofu and it was cubed too small so they just broke apart. The gyoza I ordered were fried nicely however they were sweet which was off putting. Not sure it they actually added sugar instead of salt or because there were carrots in them. I've never had carrots in gyoza that I remember. I did enjoy the Soba salad that I got after an appointment at another business but it's pretty hard to get that wrong. Ordering was very easy over the phone each time and ready when we got there to pick up. The workers are pleasant and accommodating. Parking is in a shared and is the location of the old Daiichi Ramen business. read more
