The staff here is always so pleasant, They all work efficiently to serve their customers. I come for their rice cake and add a few other items. Because all of it looks delicious! Their steamed rice cake is very delicious, if you haven't tried it. Order one or two on your visit there. Today 3/29/2026 there were steamed manapuas in pastel colors. In celebration of Easter. Very festive! Of course I had to get me not one but two manapuas. They were warm & soft. These fluffy buns are filled with a perfect amount of savory char siu pork. There's indoor seating-dining area is clean and well maintained. Upon entering there may or not be a line. Be sure to stand in that line if you'll be placing an order or picking up your preorder. Parking can be a bit challenging depending on the time you're there. However, there is ample parking stalls so eventually you'll get parking. Update - Finally got my half moon! Went earlier in the morning and ordered a quart of zucchini, mushrooms, chicken to take to a party. Usually I LOVE chicken mushrooms/zucchini elsewhere but I was disappointed because there wasn't much flavor and the chicken was a little tough. Won't get this again. However, also ordered steamed char siu Bao and this time I got my Half moons! Bao was delicious as ever. Will continue to order this! Half moon was different from traditional Chinese dim sum places but was very tasty. Plenty of shredded char siu and less veggies than most half moons. After going to their Ala Moana location, I had to come to another to see if it was true. The size of their manapua have been reduced! They taste the same but the size of their baked char siu and baked hot dog are smaller now and the char siu is not filled as much as before. This is disappointing. Inside was bright and clean. I haven't been to this location in many years, and am not usually the one who orders, so I was a little overwhelmed by how busy it was. I didn't get the worker's name, but the receipt says Xierra (so I hope this is the actual worker who helped me). She was so patient, helpful, and kind. 10/10 service. Thank you so much, Xierra!! I hear this location is always busy which is a good sign. I tried; Pork Hash - stuffed with a lot of pork and a thin layer of noodle holding all that delicious pork in. I haven't been here for years. Now I know why. The sui mai - ugh - not how I remember. The wrapper just fell off in one piece for each one. First impressions are lasting impressions! First time to this Chun Wah Kam, and the last time I went to one of their places must have been over 8+ years ago at the Ala Moana location. Nice, that one has breathing room as a floor sign says to wait at this point until called, as there are other customers already choosing their selections of what they want to have. Even while standing in line, the smiles and one on one interaction for that personal touch stood out! The smiles i saw lasted from once you get called to completion=== very, very good signs that the owners of this company want to show that this sincerity will only bring back the customers for future purchases! A win-win for both parties! Odd to me as this was my first time here and to the close immediate right were the entrees and at the far back were the starches. Stupid me, thinking what? they will put the entrees on the plate first? No, they don't they will call you to the back to select your starch choices which i did, choosing their so called two starches of ginger fried rice and chow funn. *Their website is more accurate as it states 'UP TO two starches' than the signage up above the counters ... I asked her if there was any spicy entree available... she said their really ONLY spicy dish would be their spicy garlic chicken, but the cook had not made them today... Shucks, and I heard about this one entree to get! Then we walked over to the entrees' section and i was curious about the taste of that fried fish i saw with jalapenos, green and red bell peppers... she gave me a fork and napkin (a napkin!) to taste it... I liked it so i chose it... along with the beef with long beans in black bean sauce...there were many others that made my mouth water... but I need to get through these two first to see if they will be repeat entrees of mine! Their 3-compartment plate lunch container is a hybrid of more soft cardboard which will de-compose quicker and good for them thinking about the future (yes, as it is a mild hybrid container, it shows sagging compared to what most other places NOW use)! She was very nice in suggestive selling of their other products ... asking me if i needed manapua, dim sums, pork hash... I told her why yes, I wanted to try that 'spicy pork hash' that was posted on the wall to the right as we waited in line... She apologized but said they don't have it in yet as it comes from their Kalihi St. location... Oh, wonder if that is their central kitchen location as I know this is where Chun Wah started out way in the beginning. I told her that's all right, nothing else for me... They were seating on both sides of the entry that can seat at least 30 persons... the modern, interior warm lighting was welcoming for diners eating inside being not overly bright with day-time lighting, nor dim. My early lunch filled my stomach well... deeliciousssss! I would select that beef with long beans in black bean sauce again, but up in the air about the fish...perhaps they should mix the entree inside of its chafer pans ever so often so the sauce will mix with all pieces of the fish, etc and so the flavor will be more. The ginger fried rice was very aromatic and with its strong ginger taste that some may not like. The chow funn was slightly bland and in need of some dashi flavoring or something else to make the noodle dish 'pop' ! *The finishing transaction with the smile by her as she handed my change and receipt and thanking me --- i consider their *customer service* to be 5 stars alone! If this matters to you, their chopsticks they provide is of a longer in length and highER quality along with the provided four (4) good quality thickER napkins! Stopped in for lunch and our family had recommended this shop and location to our long time family friends from the mainland. It was a bit of an interesting experience and felt the need to elaborate a bit more. First we loved the fact that it wasn't just for take out and that they had a dine in seating option. And secondly known for its Manapua and fresh noodles and plate lunches here we knew that our friends would thoroughly enjoy this meal. The food itself is great! Everything cooked and baked fresh and absolutely delicious. It's a local favorite and we love it. The interesting part came with the fact that although we got a big table to accommodate all of our party ready to feast and enjoy, we were a bit shocked to learn that they do not carry any plates. Yes that's correct...no plates. But yet there is Dine in service? So now we were left with trying to figure out how to split all of our side orders which we ordered a lot of to share with everyone and also eat in. It may seem a bit trivial but it is a bit concerning if plates are not available just because we order all side ala carte orders instead of full plate lunches. They were unable to provide us the take out plate lunches containers although spending well over $100 on all of the meal and to be honest it was a bit disappointing. The employee whom we appreciated tried to accommodate their no plates available rule and we all together configured a plan of using the clear small manapua paper square that you use to grab the manapua with to eat as plate alternates. We placed them directly on the table and put our rice, noodles fish pork hash all on the little squares. The ambiance overall is good but it felt a little weird & I'm sure the visitors to Hawaii noticed too. Would love to promote the delicious food more as the Garlic fish along with the noodles and pork hash and steamed charsiu manapua are my favorites not only at this location but others as well read more

Mana oh man! I haven't gone to Chun Wah Kam in years! We were hungry after walking around the swap meet and I really wanted some Mana Pua. We stopped at Chun Wah Kam on the way home. They only had steamed Char siu Mana pua left and a handful of flavors of the minis. So I ordered 4 regular steamd plus a few sweet potato and kalu pig minis too. Had to also add in a bunch of pork hash and gau gee too! Although everything by the each is decent in price, it can add up pretty quickly when buying for multiple people and ordering when you're really hungry! Lol. Service is super fast and friendly, and very helpful. Most people just come here to take food out, but there are a few tables available to dine in too. Been coming here for ever since I grew up in Hawaii. I had to show my daughter this spot and she wasn't disappointed. She just wanted to sample the hotdog Manapua and she liked it. It's a hot dog with a backed sweet bread around it. Trust me it's delicious! They have the best manapuas around especially their pork hash. We ordered almost everything before we boarded our flight. The most beautiful orange box around the islands.... move over pink box! We love Chun Wah Kam and I know others do too because there's ALWAYS a long line that can go out the door when we go here. There are several locations throughout the islands, but this one is the most convenient even though the parking can be very difficult! They also have plate lunch, but I have not had an opportunity to eat these so I cannot speak to these items, but the a la carte dim sum items (manapua) is sooo good. We typically buy a huge box of JUST steamed manapua (char siu). I have not had the mini manapua (flavored) but I want to try these next time. We also love the crispy kau gee (a little oily, but that's OK), pork hash, and the rice cakes (which sell out fast). FYI- they take card, but they check ID "100%" so make sure you have it handy Pro tip- go early as some of their most popular items run out fast! read more

Today was an excellent day for choosing to come here to pick up food. There was no line and the employee that helped me was very efficient and thoughtful. After she made my plate and asked me how many chopsticks and hot mustard she asked if I wanted a bag. First time a worker placed the container of food with the sides taped in a clear plastic bag with the napkins and chopsticks on the top. No spill, no mess. Anything else? Hot dog, pork hash and half moon. Sorry, no half moon today. She was so pleasant. I paid 35 cents for the carry out brown paper bag with handles. Such an efficient employee. I had very low expectations when I visited this location. I have been back 3 times since. I went for the manapua. I got the baked char siu manapua, some pork hash, and a hot plate. The first two times I visited, there wasn't a line. The staff was very polite and patient (more than I'm use to at other establishments on island). The establishment was properly lit, and looked well maintained. I went around lunch time on a Friday and the line was to the door. I tasted the Filipino influence and some other things. Thought I'd put this out there...ordered their steamed manapuas twice in 2 weeks and there was an intense "chemical" smell each time. The first time last week, the manapuas tasted okay but the "chemical" smell was off-putting and mildly affected the taste. The second time purchased this week (2nd try), the chemical smell altered the taste of the manapua. The manapua smelled like heated plastic and tasted like it, as well. Our ohana would always buy from the Waimalu location however, in the past several days we have noticed that the quality of food has gone down. We don't know if it's a new cook but our recent pan order of their beef and broccoli was so disappointing and highly embarrassing for us. We decided to bring their beef and broccoli to an informal local style gathering and so dismayed when we brought it out. The meat looked very old looking (no color; just pasty), there wasn't any seasoned taste to it and the broccoli was so overcooked, not crunchy at all and there hardly was any gravy!! Our host was tempted to make some gravy but didn't want to hurt our feelings. Side note: she should've because it possibly would have spiced up the flavor. Then this past Saturday, we were gifted with their huge box of baked manapua. Now we like their manapua (altho other family members think there's too much bread than meat) but this dozen of manapua was so darn salty. We seriously couldn't eat it. Now some of you might think with age the amount of salt differs, and you're correct, but between my hubby and I (in our 60's), our son and daughter (in their 20's), we all concurred that it was absolutely too salty. I wish we took pictures of the beef and broccoli but we didn't. So we're going to have to say aloha to Chun Wah Kam and find somewhere else to get our manapua fixes and catered trays from. Five stars for having these fresh noodles available. Five stars for superb customer service. Five stars for separate line of phone orders/pick up, lights, and easy to read signage. I'm not a fan of their manapua (char siu bao), pork hash, various fried rice, and premade orders even though I've tried it from my husband, funerals and parties. I appreciate that they got rid of the number system and since Covid the crowds have gone down big time so everytime it's smooth sailing. Da aunties behind the counter always hook it up with big portions as always whether it's the new bowl or plate etc. While I admit I miss the furikake fried rice and the fact that spicy garlic and minit chicken is not always available and is now made to order only I do appreciate the transparency and relatively fast speed that it does come out as I can't leave without it.
