I wanted to eat ramen, so being in the area Ramen Ya was my choice. Let's start at the entrance .From the parking lot my wife notice that there was a sign that said closed. Also a sign that said open. ??? We checked the opening times on Yelp and Google. While we were searching three big bradahs approached the entrance but didn't go in. A minute later they entered the establishment . I told my let's go their open. Upon entry we were greeted and told to sit at any open table. Water and menus soon followed.. Our server was pleasant and check on us frequently. So 5 stars for service. I ordered the Tonkotsu Ramen. This was Disappointing. I didn't care for the broth. And the egg was hard boiled. For a Japanese restaurant very sad. Enjoy

Taste and quality is good, the only thing is that they give a lot of rice in the plate. If you get a ramen set, it's basically 2 meals and everything tastes good.

10/10 I love going to Ramen-Ya and this time was no different. My friend and I were feeling a bit under the weather and decided some soup was the way to go. I got the egg soup and a green tea, she got fried rice and miso soup. It hit the spot as it always does. I get something different every time I come and it never disappoints. The servers are always so kind and fast at getting to you and never make you feel forgotten or crowded. The ambiance is cozy, it's cold but the soup will warm you right up.

    Terrible mini curry gyoza
    Dean H.

The combo A - mini gyoza Curry and shoyu ramen was terrible. Don't get that unless you want to be disappointed. The rice was mushy and it was a small scoop of curry. It was also put together when it was a takeout order. This is ok but as u can see the rice absorbed the curry. See picture. The shoyu ramen was just ok. The mabo tofu was ok for generic mabo tofu but again it was just ok. At least the rice was ok and they packed the mapo separate. They included a 4 piece gyoza which was mushy and very soggy. Bad. What was the kicker for me , was that they charged $33 for both orders. I am not an alien that just landed in Hawaii so I know they gotta charge what they charge but for the quality they serve that is theft. We rarely go to "generic" ramen places but we decided to go cause my wife wasn't feeling well and wanted udon or ramen. Big mistake. We have avoided this particular place for 4 years while we lived close by. For some reason we decided to give this place a chance. To be fair, I have had food from other ramen ya and it wasn't nearly as bad as this. We will not return, ever.

I got the meal deal for $19, which included the gyoza, a bowl of ramen and the chicken katsu curry. I was quite impressed with the quantity of food.

Family friendly restaurant, great for picky eaters too! Kids love anything crispy and fried rice. We were seated right away, wasn't too busy around 7pm. Waiter checked on us often for refills or needed anything. Food and service was great!

Go hungry! They give you so much food! Fast service and very attentive. I'm always satisfied every time I eat here.

Dropped the chicken on the ground, and put it in with the other cut chicken in the container with "extra seasoning".
    Cora J.

Service was okay. But for the food, I would probably rethink of eating anything that has chicken for a while from this place or maybe not eat here at all. So we seen them cutting the raw chicken, and I really thought to myself, what would they do if one piece dropped? Well we watched once piece of raw chicken dropped on the floor and it went straight into the CONTAINER of cut chicken!!! No, didn't rinse with water, just straight from the floor to that food container!!! I guess there was extra seasoning! Couldn't even throw one piece of chicken that fell on the ground in the trash. There's no video, cause it was caught off guard, and as soon as it dropped she picked it up and put it into the container with the other cut raw chicken.

Ramen--Ya is a solid affordable, super large portions, with quick service restaurant/takeout place. The food is delicious and comes out quickly, and definitely appeals to the hungry military and working class population in the area. The shop itself is small and the parking spaces are tiny, but the turnover is quite quick. We love the black garlic ramen, seafood ramen, gyoza and Mapo tofu, but have also tried their rice dishes and curries. Heads up, it is $0.60 for a takeout container, but unless you're as ravenous as my grandfather is, you'll probably need it.

Combo Set A ( this is the side: chicken katsu curry, sub white rice for fried rice)

Seated immediately, wasn't too busy especially on a Sunday. * they have happy hour for goyza, they just don't have a sign anymore, but ask to confirm!" Ordered combo set A with chicken katsu curry, fried rice to share with the kids. Tonkatsu was good, broth is rich!

    Shrimp tempura curry rice tho
    Samantha D.

I called in an order for pick up at 10:30, food was done and ready for me when I arrived shortly after 10:45. Staff was friendly and quick! Tempura shrimp curry over rice - great flavor, large portion. My only complaint is the rice to curry ratio was really off. I was given about 5 scoops of rice (filled the entire base of a large takeout container) and maybe one scoop of curry on top. I was full off of the top layer of curry rice tho! Tonkatsu ramen- can never go wrong with this one, the broth is flavorful and delicious Shumai- OMG SO GOOD They were perfectly cooked, with a zesty kind of tartar sauce aioli. In love with these.

    To-go Ramen with the combo!
    Madison G.

I can't believe that this meal was less than 20 bucks!! (Or $20 with a to-go tip!) The food was very good, it took less than 10 min from the time I ordered until they had my food ready, and I'm so satisfied! Easy, fast and yummy!

Mother Queen wanted Ramen but she doesn't fell like driving during rush hour. Ramen Ya is convenient for us, just a short drive. The staff here are warm and friendly. They prices here are reasonable especially the combo set. The Ramen is not the best I've had, but it's satisfying. Clean and organized dining area. Also plenty of parking.

Overall, the ramen was very good, but I want to share an important tip about their waiting system so others don't get caught off guard. When your name gets close to the top of the list, do NOT wander away. They will call your name three times, and if you're not standing there, they'll cross your name off immediately. What surprised me was that they start calling names before the current customers have even finished eating or paid their bill. I had made eye contact with the host, pointed to my name and party size, and he acknowledged me. There were still people sitting at the counter eating, and it looked like it would be another 10-15 minutes before seats opened up. I stepped away briefly and came back, only to find my name had already been crossed off the list. The party that was supposedly leaving hadn't even paid yet and was still sitting in their seats. When I explained the situation, the host simply said, "Sorry, your time passed already. I called your name three times." Their sign says they will wait 3 minutes, but in our case it felt more like they called the name three times in quick succession and then removed it. Thankfully, after some discussion, he agreed to seat us anyway. So my advice: once your name is within a couple spots of being called, stay close and pay attention. As for the food, we ordered the Oxtail Ramen (spicy) and the Cashew Pork Ramen. The ramen itself was excellent. The oxtail was tender, although it didn't have a lot of flavor on its own in the soup. They provide a separate bowl with ginger and what appeared to be a ponzu-based sauce, and the intended way to eat it is to remove the oxtail from the soup and dip it into the sauce. That definitely enhanced the flavor. The restaurant is set up with bar-style seating in a half-oval arrangement. Your party will be seated shoulder-to-shoulder, and guests will be sitting directly across from you on the other side of the counter. I'd estimate there are about 25 seats total. Service is efficient, food comes out quickly, and most customers finish and leave fairly fast. For reference, we arrived at 8:38 PM on a Tuesday with 17 people ahead of us. We were seated around 9:15 PM, our food arrived by about 9:30 PM, and we left around 10:00 PM. Overall, this would have been a 5-star experience if not for the confusion with the waiting list. The ramen is absolutely worth trying, but understanding how their queue system works will save you from a potentially frustrating experience.

Different than tonkatsu ramen in terms of the broth is lighter but still has that distinct pork taste. It isn't overly salty- just right so the broth is sippable and I enjoyed the ramen. Not only that, but I have to bring my significant other along to share in the deliciousness! I don't know how I'm just now talking about Marugame Udon. When I first came here, my friend and I decided to give it a try because we saw the longest line and wanted to see what all the hype was about. There was a couple in front of us who said they come here every time they visit Hawaiʻi and that it's a must-do stop on every trip. When you walk in, it's a small place. You can watch a team member washing the noodles and portioning them into bowls right in front of you. Then you choose your bowl size, small or large, and select your broth. After that, you get to choose from a variety of fried items and other à la carte options displayed on a warmer. Seating can be limited because of how busy this place gets. You line up to get your food, pay for it, grab your condiments, utensils, and a cup of water, then find a seat and enjoy. I've already been here twice, and after writing about my experience, I need to make a third visit happen very soon! There are not enough days off in a week to enjoy all of the amazing food on this island, but I'm going to do my best to experience as many places as I can. This place is totally worth the 45-minute commute from Wahiawa.

(They also have a cold vegan ramen) I waited until I tried all three of the warm vegan ramens to post this review. Each one has a different broth but all are topped with charred fresh vegetables that remain crisp yet melt in your mouth. Mmmmm! Love that they have eggplant and kambocha, simply brilliant! And the noodles are medium with a slight curl. They have great texture and a bouncy bite. But let's get to the broths. The first one I tried was the clear broth. It was light yet complex, fresh yet savory. The next one was the tan tan. It was creamy and nutty, rich but not gritty (like some tan tan ramens). The last one was the tomato broth, so unique and distinct. It was tangy yet sweet and aromatic. (note: they serve this with a shaker of Parmesan cheese to use as a topping, makes culinary sense, but I also don't consume dairy so passed on the topping). Now you're probably wondering which was my favorite. I don't have one. They are all different and delicious! No complaints. Only praise for three impeccably crafted dishes cooked with care. I adore that I can come back and eat whatever suits my flavor fancy. They also serve a vegan karaage. Crunchy on the outside and soft and tender on the inside but enough texture to make it feel 'meaty.' They do a great job with this dish serving it with a small salad tossed lightly with a goma-ish dressing. There is also a side sweet chili dipping sauce. I also am in love with their chips. Seems like a quirky item for a ramen menu but once you have it you realize how much sense it makes. Cut thin like air, the potatoes are cooked to golden perfection and sprinkled with Himalayan sea salt. It's a great crunchy starter before a bowl of warm sumptuous ramen and something other than your typical gyoza... Speaking of gyoza, they don't have a vegan option but my hubby tried it and always orders a side. They have options with cheese and garlic toppings too. Hubby has also tried their tonkatsu and shoyu ramen and slurped it ALL up. He was especially impressed with the shoyu ramen. All this deliciousness is enjoyed in an air-conditioned restaurant with an industrial steam-punk vibe. High and low tables accommodates seating for couples to groups. They also have a lovely lanai if you prefer eating outside. Street metered parking is easy to find, and they also have validated parking in the small lot. Junpuu is right across the Blaisdell Center so it is a great option if you're there for a fair, concert, or other event. The servers are courteous and efficient, and I give their playlist 5 plus stars. I usually find myself tapping my feet or humming along to the well-curated songs, classic and retro. If you are Gen-X you will totally understand! I came to Junpuu looking for a warm vegan ramen, I found three. And I'll keep coming back and rotating through their stellar selection of amazingly tasty noodle soups. Well, that and the karaage and chips. If you are vegan or vegetarian this is a MUST-try place. But you don't have to be to enjoy the bowls of culinary comfort that comes out of the kitchen of Junpuu.

Food was decent and Portion was reasonable. What I didn't like was how they kept coming up to our table and trying to take away our plate and bowl as if we were finish. Not once but 3x. Seriously, I still had ramen and char sui in my bowl. Let me finish!!!. It felt like they they were trying to rush us and mind you it wasn't busy at all. To add to it, when did they start automatically adding 15% gratitude for a party of 2. I get if its a big party but for 2 or even if by yourself is unbelievable. Save yourself the trouble and eat at another ramen spot. There is a few good ones around ala moana area or in the food court as well.

The price of the weekly lunch special with udon is amazing! THEY HAVE KAMA'AINA DISCOUNTS!!! The combo came with a regular size udon ( i believe there were three choices ), sukiyaki beef rice, and a side of cucumber salad. For $16!!! You can get it at that price from opening ti'll 5pm! The sukiyaki beef udon was spectacular! Our server recommended it and all I can say is that it's a must try! The interior of the store is really pretty. Lots of wood accents and love how the kitchen overlooks the store!

This was my second time here. I first came about five years ago not long after they opened, and I…read moreactually think it was better back then. We came for lunch, and while the service was pretty slow, the food was decent overall. I ordered the Hamachi Jalapeño and Seared Garlic Salmon hand rolls, and the Seared Garlic Salmon was easily my favorite. I'd definitely order that again. We also tried the scallop special, which was prepared with miso butter, mushrooms, and spinach. It was packed with umami and ended up being everyone's favorite dish at the table. The shishito peppers were my personal favorite. They came with an incredible sauce that I kept going back for. They were actually my boyfriend's order, but I somehow ended up eating most of them. We also shared the Wagyu Shabu Udon, which was decent, and the $9 house hot sake during happy hour, though the pour was pretty small. Overall, it's a decent spot with a few standout dishes, but I don't think it's quite as good as I remember it being years ago. I wouldn't go out of my way for it, but if you're in the area, it's worth checking out.
