My review is really a 3.5, 4.5 for service, and 3.0 to 4.0 for the food. It was pouring rain when we picked up daughter and SIL from the airport. They wanted rice and SIL suggested this Ramen-Ya since it was the closest fast place to eat without driving elsewhere because the traffic on the freeway was very heavy. Service was quick and very good. Staff are friendly and helpful. It was crowded but they took care of us rather quickly, considering. Menu is the usual Ramen-Ya fare. SIL got the katsu curry. It was HUGE! The plate was full of rice and had a large serving of tonkatsu. He said it was good and while he can usually finish everything, he left a little this time. Hubby had the tonkotsu ramen and finished it, said it was good. Daughter had a combo (A?) with ramen, gyoza, and fried gyoza curry on rice. She said it was good. Gyoza was the usual, fried gyoza looked great. I had the black garlic ramen. It was delicious, with plenty of crispy fried garlic, except for the egg - it was hard boiled! (Hubby's was, too but since he gave it to me he didn't care.) Other than the disappointing hard boiled egg, everything was good. But hard boiled was a spoiler for me. (I read someone else's review after and they mentioned the hard boiled egg, too). I wanted to eat ramen, so being in the area Ramen Ya was my choice. Let's start at the entrance .From the parking lot my wife notice that there was a sign that said closed. Also a sign that said open. ??? We checked the opening times on Yelp and Google. While we were searching three big bradahs approached the entrance but didn't go in. A minute later they entered the establishment . I told my let's go their open. Upon entry we were greeted and told to sit at any open table. Water and menus soon followed.. 10/10 I love going to Ramen-Ya and this time was no different. My friend and I were feeling a bit under the weather and decided some soup was the way to go. The combo A - mini gyoza Curry and shoyu ramen was terrible. Don't get that unless you want to be disappointed. The rice was mushy and it was a small scoop of curry. It was also put together when it was a takeout order. This is ok but as u can see the rice absorbed the curry. See picture. The shoyu ramen was just ok. The mabo tofu was ok for generic mabo tofu but again it was just ok. At least the rice was ok and they packed the mapo separate. They included a 4 piece gyoza which was mushy and very soggy. Bad. What was the kicker for me , was that they charged $33 for both orders. I am not an alien that just landed in Hawaii so I know they gotta charge what they charge but for the quality they serve that is theft. We rarely go to "generic" ramen places but we decided to go cause my wife wasn't feeling well and wanted udon or ramen. Big mistake. We have avoided this particular place for 4 years while we lived close by. For some reason we decided to give this place a chance. Ramen--Ya is a solid affordable, super large portions, with quick service restaurant/takeout place. The food is delicious and comes out quickly, and definitely appeals to the hungry military and working class population in the area. The shop itself is small and the parking spaces are tiny, but the turnover is quite quick. We love the black garlic ramen, seafood ramen, gyoza and Mapo tofu, but have also tried their rice dishes and curries. I was craving a nice hot bowl of fresh ramen and decided to go check out Ramen-Ya at the Moanalua Shopping Center with my mom. I ordered their popular Ton Katsu Ramen and my mom ordered the Won Ton Ramen. We also ordered a few sides....shrimp tempura and shrimp siu mai. With our ramen orders also came 4 pieces of Gyoza. Service was fast and the size of everything was perfect. In fact a little too much we ended up taking it home. My ton katsu ramen was GREAT. Anytime I have fresh ramen I always taste the broth first. This broth was nice and slightly cream like. Had a good amount of salt and seasoning and the noodles were perfect. Not mushy at all. My mom loved her won ton ramen as well. Our sides were great as well. Shrimp tempura was crispy and accompanied by a good sauce. The shrimp siu mai was pretty hearty as well with what I'm assuming was kewpie mayo for a dipping sauce. The gyoza was perfectly made as well. Overall I really enjoyed my food and hit curbed my ramen craving. This place is small and quaint. Nice ambiance and good amount of seating. Tempura shrimp curry over rice - great flavor, large portion. My only complaint is the rice to curry ratio was really off. We were in the area and wanted to get something to eat. We haven't been to this Ramen-Ya before and decided to give it a try. We got two bowls of ramen. We ordered the Black Garlic Ramen $14.95 and Curry Ramen $15.95. Both bowls were watered down. It barely had any taste. This place serves hard boiled eggs in their ramen. I much prefer my ajitamas. Ordered won ton ramen and it was not very good - broth was bland (and I prefer it less salty so that tells you something), there were very little noodles and it was on the mushy side, with a lot.of short pieces, like it had been sitting in the pot for too long. The won ton filling was very tiny and the wrapper was falling apart as I picked it up. It just didnt seem fresh. So disappointed. Husband had mabo tofu ramen and had no complaints. My husband and I got two Combo Ramen Sets (A) and the food came out pretty quick. It came with a mini ramen (it was a very good portion), gyozas, and a selection of your choice. I got fried rice and my husband got chicken katsu curry, both pretty big portions of food. My husband never has ordered curry anywhere and said "it was extremely flavorful" so shoutout to the chef. The food had a lot of flavor and was not bland one bit. We ordered a few too many items: ramen set A with paitan broth with egg and chicken katsu curry side of gyoza, ramen set a with tan tan broth and chicken karaage with side of gyoza, croquette, edamame, fried noodles and fried rice for the girls. The food came out piping hot. The chicken karaage was too big for me personally. I like the bite size pieces. However, these were nice and moist so that was nice. I really liked the croquettes. The fried noodles were burnt tasting. The value for the amount of food was so good. All the food and two sodas was only $86. We went home with three takeout containers full. Service: the food came out quick. Servers were available and attentive. We had no issues. Parking is an open lot. This place is SOOOOO COLD that it makes it hard to eat without shivering. The ac is blowing so hard on you. The food gets cold so fast because it's so cold. They should make it a comfortable temperature for everyone. We also miss the Christmas music during the holidays. This is our go to for ramen. The food is good for the price. Glad we're able to change our soup base but with additional charge. Combo A is good because you get a little bit of gyoza, small serving of main dish like chicken katsu curry, beef curry etc & a small ramen.
