EoS - Encinitas (16th EoS weve visited) Yep, brace yourself for another gym review, bc the world clearly needs more of those!! This one's hidden like a secret boss level in an industrial park. But surprise! It's got a 2nd floor outdoor view that slaps... like Mother Nature decided to flex on your cardio session!! It was so breathtaking I had to catch my breath in between stretching!! Not your cookie-cutter EoS, which is refreshing. The downside? Only 2 racks, layout is a bit cramped. No Cryo Lounge. So, for post workout recovery? Ehhh... you'll have to settle for compression boots and massage chairs, which is still nice but basically, the spa equivalent of a firm handshake instead of a warm hug. Still a nice gym though. Staff is helpful and friendly, parking is plenty. read more

I did a one-week pass for around $35 while visiting family down the street and thought it was generally a good modern gym, although it tended to be very crowded on weekday afternoons. They have some wild equipment there on an outdoor astroturf area like a wheeled and weighted pushcart for legs and lower-back and a giant monster-truck tire you could hit with a sledgehammer. In other parts of the country, those things would be considered a job and not something to do at the gym, but ok. One complaint I have is that they strangely had no abdominal machines but one small decline bench hidden under a stairway. I would give them more stars if they extended their free 7-Day Pass promotion to non-residents like me. read more

Wasted our time. We spent 20 minutes doing a tour and explaining our needs, and only at the end were told we couldn't use the 7-day trial because we're not Encinitas residents. That should've been shared upfront. After letting us start working out anyway, the staff came back onto the floor to interrupt us and pull us aside again -- unnecessary and uncomfortable. EOS fitness is such a con. Overcharging is a constant problem. It's difficult to cancel membership and cancel training. Although not receiving any training and asking for my training to be canceled, I still get charged $50 every two weeks I have written a letter to the general manager of EOS who overseas the clubs, and haven't received any response. I have met with two trainers and both of them were incompetent and harmful. read more

I really like the gym overall. I like the layout, it has two really nice outside areas that are really breezy and cool. It seems to be pretty clean from what I've seen. Machines are in good working order. The only reason I gave it a four is because there are so many members that it's often hard to do what I need to do a lot of this is due to the plethora of 20 something year-old boys who hang out there for hours with their friends working out and hog the Smith machines and towers for hours. Not sure why they're not at work or in school, but that is aggravating. I also wish they had two of the hip machine machines that you can do clamshells on. At least I can say I tried. But no. I'm used to a different caliber of gym. This place is dirty, disgusting, people are awful. The hoops they make you jump through to cancel is preposterous. Let's see, force me to go in to face you monsters, to be told now I have to do it online. Then says something else. Now admittedly I'm so annoyed and defensive, as I should be. Wait you need to create an entire profile and account just to cancel. It's like being a hostage. Then there's a credit card issue because the brain surgeon says it has to be a 'good' card, I know it's not because we got hacked. I cannot be more annoyed now. And thank god because I purposely was so annoying so he would just say f it. He did. I win. Finally done here. No longer have to worry about some unnamed parasite I'd pick up. I'm genuinely stunned by how I was treated by Chris, the regional manager at EOS. I approached him calmly--though admittedly frustrated--to ask if there was any way to either donate our unused personal training sessions for a tax write-off or receive a refund, given how poor the service had been and how we didn't use them all. I wasn't trying to argue; I was asking about our options and explaining our reasoning. Instead, he raised his voice at me, huffed and puffed, mocked me, and said things like, "You're not listening to me," and, "You've made it completely clear that there's not a day on God's green earth where you would ever recommend our training." He also said "you're not the first person in the world who has gotten pregnant and needed to transfer or freeze your sessions" after I just told him for medical reasons during my pregnancy I couldn't use the sessions . Stunned and somehow not raising my voice back at him I responded with "yeah, I would imagine" since it's never what I was implying. His tone was super aggressive and completely unprofessional--especially toward a paying customer seeking a fair conversation. We were told clearly at sign-up that the sessions would never expire. That's what we based our purchase on. There was no paperwork to suggest otherwise--just vague terms and a quick "sign here" approach on an electronic pad. We would never have invested in this if we'd known how awful their service (or lack their of) and training program would be. The training itself was extremely disappointing- low quality, inconsistent, and trainers were constantly changed without notice. My husband sometimes would show up for a session and it would be a new trainer- that he never had met and wasn't told a thing! He had this happen multiple times. Eventually, we stopped using it because it just wasn't worth our time which was our reason for finally calling to see if they could make the best of this situation for us (but haven't). We understand policies exist, but we were misled from the start--and then treated with total disrespect and a demeaning, aggressive tone and response when we tried to ask questions. A (much) different response and handling of this would've made the world of a difference (like any good business would know). read more

I always enjoy any EOS fitness when I am visiting out of town. This one has an outdoor patio for some of the workouts which I appreciate because it changes it up. However, the equipment is limited and very old. They try to upkeep the area which is nice, but can use some new paint and buffing of the equipment. They also have an outdoor volleyball court which is very San Diego! Nonetheless, this gym got the job done. They just need a few more squat racks and more Sani-wipe stations to keep up to par with the other gyms. read more

I have trained with Jennifer Young for about 3 years now and she is one of the best trainers I have ever had. She is not like other trainers in that she knows so much more about the body mechanics ( being a extremely strong athlete herself). Each session is unique and different and her positive attitude is contagious. She keeps me motivated and she is such a good role model for anyone who wants to get in great shape. First of all, I have no idea why so many people are so unrealistic about what they expect to get at a gym. There are other people there and the equipment gets used. How can that surprise you? And the people complaining about the locker rooms, I have no idea what you were expecting also. And the fact that most people are simply gross with the reality that they can't clean up after messy people every five minutes means you might have a bad experience once in a while... Shower at home. Second, and most importantly, this place has tons of weights and machines that you don't normally see at other gyms. It's spread out nicely and this also tons of cardio equipment. The price point and value of this place is also the best I have seen in the area. If you want fancy showers and free orange mocha Frappuccino, go to equinox. read more

I was really hoping to write a positive update, but unfortunately EOS Fitness continues to disappoint. I finally got in touch via email with Markki Petrina, the District Operations Manager who responded to my first review, and was informed that EOS would be issuing me a refund to be processed within 7-10 business days. It has now been six weeks and I still have not received my refund. I followed up over email three weeks ago but received neither a response nor the refund I was promised. It has now been four months since I initially reached out to EOS with my concern, and it still has not been resolved. I am disappointed but not surprised. read more

1st complaint is that the music at this gym is so loud. At 6am in the morning, the last thing I want is to hear the gym music overpowering my music that I'm listening to on my headphones. It's even worse in the locker rooms and showers. 2nd complaint are the showers. The curtains need to get replaced or washed. They smell and look gross with all the stains. The bigger shower for disabled/elderly has a leak when you turn it on, it's unusable. The sitting stools in the showers are also all broken and unstable. 3rd in the women's locker rooms, majority of the people don't use locks and so it's frustrating to find an open locker especially around peak time. There was also a lady who accused me of going through her bag, when I didnt. She didn't even have a lock on her locker and the staff came up to me to accuse me of something I didn't do. read more

The 5-star review went to a 1 star. Actually really bummed to be writing this review. EoS decided it would be a better idea to have a recovery room (so sweaty gym goers can take turns sitting in a massage chair) than continue their amazing kids club which allows parents to work out and have exceptional child care for their kids. That childcare has to be one of the best-run gym kid's areas I have ever seen. KC is a saint. She is so engaging with the kids and goes the extra mile IN A GYM KIDS CARE. I would have thought this was a high-end preschool with the amount of care and thought she puts into the activities for these kids. My son absolutely loved it. Also, it's really sick to terminate employees who put years into Kids Care for something as gross as massage chairs branded as a "recovery room." EoS was amazing because it was an affordable gym in Encinitas that had wonderful child care for parents. We went and checked out the child care at the EoS in Oceanside and it wasn't nearly to the caliber as this one. Bummed we, and many others, have to discontinue our membership. My wife loved coming here with our son and it was certainly a win/win scenario with the gym/child care. read more

We switched from Chuze due to their toxic gym environment where I was bullied and harassed and even assaulted but they never did anything about much of anything so I went to the nearest gym La fitness and then to eos to see which gym would be a better fit and my wife and I both thought eos was the better choice for several reasons...they are very nice and polite and their colors and lighting aren't as bright as the other places which is great for my sensitive eyes and it just felt right...we have not experienced the same type of bullies at Eos and they don't put up with that type of attitude and that's really refreshing tbh...and everyone that works there is very friendly and fun to chat with...I wish that we made the switch earlier tbh but I'm just glad that we made the switch cuz no one should be told it's my machine and I'm on it now which is what I heard way too many times st Chuze...they have several fun classes that my wife enjoys doing and we like their saunas and recovery room with massage chairs and hand held massagers and leg compression too and I luv the outside things like the heavy bag and the speed bag etc...it's a win win...thanks for everything...we truly enjoy going to eos and we are there almost every day even if it's just for the recovery room which is called the tank... read more

This location particularly could have so much more potential but they choose to stay small! Honestly I won't be keep my membership here long after noticing the hours they are open. They close extremely early it's the biggest inconvenience that they close at 7p on Sat and Sun! I mean 10p is already an inconvenience especially during holidays but I wouldn't want to inconvenience their front desk staff! Showers are always gross and broken with no where to put your things while showering. Locker rooms are gossip station all morning! I've caught the gardeners that come here blow dirt all over all the cars. All around layout of the gym is not women friendly. read more

This gym still hasn't fixed the problems that plague it. The Bathrooms smell. Prices so low they attract homeless people showering and the gym constantly has new age narcissistic kids with tripods and cameras filming machine lifts. Encinitas deserves better. read more

My prior review of this gym which you may reference gave it three stars - and over all, as gyms go it still gets three stars, but I gave it four today because it is at least open post-coronavirus, and does seem to be doing a responsible job of keeping things clean and safe, Today was the first day for re-opening of the gym, since mid-March 2020: three months closed! The current system requires you to make a workout reservation, up to 24 hours in advance, via their new EOS Fitness mobile app which actually seems to direct you to a regular website where you must pick, every time you book, the state and exact location of your gym, and then enter your name and email after selecting a one or two hour time slot. The reservation system allows up to 100 to book per time slot, and I ended up booking last minute for Friday morning, and noticed 77 spots available when I booked - so there seems to be no mad rush to go back to the gym, but also - this gym is rarely crowded and I have been going to this location since it opened in the early '90s (as Frog's). Upon arrival, you will find all staff wearing masks - no temperature check (you self certify when you make the reservation that you are not sick and are not experiencing any fever or other coronavirus symptoms). My level of membership at EOS does not include towels, so I brought my own workout and bath towel, but I am not certain that EOS has resumed towel service, for anyone, quite yet anyway. Inside the gym most everything is actually the same. There was some effort to move some exercise or aerobic machines farther apart, but most are exactly where they always were. Every other machine is marked with Yellow, to indicate that it is open for use (Blue means - off limits, although, I did see many people using weight strengthening machines notwithstanding their big blue stickers). The upstairs outside area is closed off - the turf on the ground seems to have been removed. This closed area has a few TRX straps, matts and exercise and medicine balls for floor exercises. Downstairs I did not notice any missing equipment other than some light dumbbells normally located near the medicine balls at the far end away from the rest of the weights were gone. Bosu, exercise balls, medicine balls, resistance cords, all still there. While working out, I took the time - as suggested by the email we were all sent - to wipe down equipment I used before and after, but I didn't notice too many doing that. For this they have set out a large industrial paper towel roll and spray bottles, and also there are the wet wipes that come out of the dispensers. There is one EOS staff assigned to the floor who is constantly cleaning equipment, and at one point she was joined by two other staff members. Hand sanitizer stations at each end of the gym. When I arrived at the gym I was wearing my mask, but took it off as I changed in the locker room. Only certain lockers - spaced apart - are marked and designated for use. Friday: June 12th, almost no one was wearing a mask on the workout floor. Saturday, June 13th, things had changed - the mask rule was being enforced and almost everyone, including me, was masked while exercising. Coronavirus protection-wise, I understand that the mask protects more from giving rather than receiving the virus, which means that in order for someone to be protected, everyone in the room would need to wear a mask. People were being mindful to distance socially, and it was clear that everyone there was just grateful to be back in the gym. I did maintain an every other day semblance of workout (Arnold Schwarzenneger's at home) the past few months, but it was nothing like lifting heavy weights. I found that I was about 5% weaker on some of the exercises, such as chest and shoulder press, which isn't too bad, but then usually after a break my first workout back I seem stronger than I really am, and by the next workout or so, as I get sore, the loss of strength from not having worked out seems more pronounced. I expect it will take a good two months to get back to my prior strength. My aerobics capacity seemed about the same, but then we did start putting in some long distance hiking on decent grades lately. The sauna is closed - showers are open. The middle shower is closed, to promote social distancing of course. I got the feeling by the time I was ready to leave that the reservations are there as a precaution to keep the gym uncrowded, but that if I had arrived without one they would have just let me in anyway. At one point I did notice a staff member counting the members, but I doubt there were more than thirty of us anyway. There was no system in place to make sure that someone left within the hour or two reserved, but then I was done at about the hour and a half mark, and for most people, two hours is plenty especially since there is no sauna open. In all, a good job by EOS, and glad to be back! read more

Been going to this gym since I moved here because of our inexpensive and clean it is. Love the views from the gym but I went to cancel because I haven't been going to the gym and when I call this guy tells me i HAVE to do it online. I tried it mine which was like finding a needle in a hay stack. I couldn't find anything about cancelling. I go to call back to the Encinitas location and another man answers who goes "I got your number I'll cancel" then get NO cancellation confirmation number or anything. No stars for EOS. They have handled me coming in very poorly since day one! Starting Oct/ 2024. They charged me for membership fees and claimed they were unsure about this. I came in with my insurance plan providing a code and they still didn't know what they were doing?? When I came back in Nov 18th 2024 I sat down with Sujay (,manager) he said he would cancel and start new. Thiing he's a manager I really thought that. When I saw a month ago the charge on my account went through and Sujay did NOT do what he said. I called him right away! Ever since I have NOT received my money back in any form! I keep getting the run around with people in front and Sujay as well! Its disheartening because I don't have money to flaunt and in the middle of the Holiday season. They took my money and don't care!!! Its unacceptable behavior for a business to abuse customers and play monopoly with our money! This is my way of having my freedom of speech and that you all are careful when you give access to your account like business like EOS GYM. read more

*Childcare* While I am happy with EOS as a whole, I want to specifically review the childcare. I have been a member at many different gyms over the years, but the childcare at EOS Encinitas has me driving further, past all those other gyms to come here. My daughter (5yo) loves that the staff is very hands-on, engaging and truly caring and loving. They do elaborate art projects and activities with the kids. Sewing projects, face painting, resin pouring art, little sculptures, you name it. They're constantly running around with them outside, flying kites and doing bubbles. It's more engaging than her preschool! I feel 100% safe with my child in their care. They are quick to call me, or even run through the gym and personally find me, if needed. EOS itself is a decent gym. It's clean-ish. New-ish. It works. I like that there are several different corners and little areas you can find to do your workout, and have a little privacy. Sure, there's cheaper. There's fancier. And I've done those. But the peace of mind that my kid is happy and excited to come here is my motivation to keep going. read more
