We came here for dinner after 2 days on the road; my parents remembered the location from when they lived here as Jack's on Marion and said the decor etc is much the same, but the name has changed to F.M.DON'S. It's on the corner of Marion and Taylor with lots of outdoor seating, but the head lights of cars swinging around the corner can be distracting, even inside. Fortunately, ensconced in a clubby booth I didn't notice. Everyone enjoyed the food: dad got fish and chips, and mom and I split items from the "starters and sharing" menu: coconut shrimp with warm mango chutney and a ball of goat cheese with apricot coulis and macadamia crust (accompanying pita was lackluster but the bread from the appetizer bread basket substituted well! The butter that had come out with said bread was as hard as a rock, so needed to come out of the fridge sooner!) Our waitress was friendly and quick with refills etc. One thing i did not care for: we were among the last people in the place and were wrapping up our check. I guess the guys cleaning up at the bar thought they'd let us know it was time to get out because they started getting really loud, yelling to each other etc. Well okay, but the check isn't done yet! Kind of rude. Overall, good food, but hospitality could use a bit of polishing. read more

Food is inconsistent and wait staff is extremely slow. We've been there when it's low season and when they're busy and it's still not good. People seem to go to drink and listen to a couple who sings outside. read more

this place was great. good service and yummy food. we had fried calamari which was very fresh, spicy and not your typical traditional calamari we enjoyed it. cesar salad was great along with the barratta salad. yum. I had the filet mignon they cooked it to perfection exactly how I asked for it. came with mashed potatoes beans and asparagus in a mushroom demi.. YUM!! my husband enjoyed the shrimp and grits. we finished off with the pecan pie and it was very good aswell. very good will definitely be back ! read more

We held a wedding shower luncheon for 25 in the rear room. Plenty of room to mingle. Staff was very friendly and allowed us to bring decorations and flowers. The menu was perfect. Would definitely recommend. read more

The only thing that surprised me was that I ordered an iced tea and a refill. I was charged for the refill. First time I was ever charged to refill my iced tea at any restaurant ever. read more

Very disappointed with the food and poor service. The food was overcooked (I ordered it rare and it was served well done). The waiter did not take the time to ask how the food was, refill our water or refill drinks. Service was very slow to take our order and get our bill. I would not recommend FM Don's if you are looking for a good meal. read more

The in house many conflicts with their current online menu. Two of us ordered Paparadelle chicken. What was served instead was the Pappardelle with pork Ragu with pieces of chicken mixed in. I tasted mine and returned it. Waiter stated he'd let chef know. offered to remake. Not interested after the time we waited. Other diner who had ordered and others tasted said the chicken tasted like freezer burn. I did not taste chicken so no opinion on that. Very average dinner menu in house disappointing. read more

I have been to FM Dons twice. Both times were excellent! The service is prompt and courteous and the food was very good. The wedge salad on romaine was one of the best ever. I had it on both occasions and it was very consistent. A little loud at busy times, but other than that, Don's is a very satisfying place to dine. I'm going back! read more

We enjoyed a nice dinner on the patio before an evening Tribute Show. I had the short ribs and they were outstanding. Sweet carrots and mashed potatoes were cooked perfectly. Short ribs were fall off the bone tender. My wife had the shrimp aioli salad. She said it was fresh and delicious. Wait staff was attentive and knowledgeable about the food choices. read more

I don't understand all the stellar reviews. Am I at the same place? * No setups (had to ask the server to bring them AFTER) we got our food. * Crabcake was burned on both sides. Sent back for another. * Asked for dressing on the side - got none and none on salad. * Asked for water - got none and server never asked if we wanted any. * Server thought "Blanco" tequila was a brand name and didn't know what they had. * "Roasted" beet salad had soft, mushy, almost canned beets. * Healthy bowl supposed to have avocado. It had 1 small cube. * Shrimp was spectacular * Crab cake was great (the new one) with lots of crab... not bready. Prices were reasonable for the area. Server appeared to be untrained... a management issue. Not the best! read more

On our 2nd visit we ordered the Barbatta salad and the Swordfish dinner. They divided them into 2 plates each for us to share ( at no extra cost). The salad and dinner were awesome. The house red wine was $4 per glass. We will definitely be back soon. read more

Fantastic service, food and drinks. Highly recommend. We spent the whole week eating at mediocre places that were supposed to be "great" and #1 etc and were always disappointed until tonight. Our waitress Denise was spot on with suggestions and we loved everything we had. Loved the goat cheese appetizer, salmon and shrimp and grits and the key lime pie. The food was amazing! My mother had the scallops that were perfectly seared and melted in your mouth. I had the recommended pork chop, which was cook beautifully, and incredibly tender. Their wine selection by the glass is broad and fits the need. To cap off the wonderful food was the excellent service. If you have the opportunity to eat here I hope you get Doug as your waiter. He is a genuinely warm and caring person who makes great recommendations. Enjoy! read more

Where to start... let's take it from the top. Our hostess was very polite, engaging and happy. A+ for her. We were escorted to our booth seats and as we were sitting, from a distance we heard "oh come on! Can't they sit at the bar?" This came from our waitress. She continued to complain to co-workers how busy it was and how she couldn't handle it. Finally she slapped on a smile and greeted us and took our order. My wife and I ordered the Ahi Tuna tower as an app and their Greek salad with Salmon to share. My wife ordered a dirty Martini and I ordered a Budweiser draft. The drinks were great. The martini was proper and the draft beer tasted crisp and fresh. The glasses were nice and clean as well. A+ for drinks. Soon after our drinks arrived our Tuna Tower arrived although it was more like a small tuna mound. The tuna was as fresh as a box of chum one would find at a bait shop. The scent of fish was very apparent and strings of fish slime would extend from the pieces as they were pulled apart. The wontons served with the tuna tasted stale and smelled of old grease. It is obvious this appetizer is plated in bulk and left in a refrigerator waiting for guests to order. Horrible quality of fish. The salad was a solid 6 out of 10. Nothing special. The salmon was cooked medium to medium well even though our waitress stressed to us how the Chef always cooks it medium rare. This is a place you could go for some good drinks and maybe some fries but do not expect to be impressed with their cuisine. I would call it a sad effort by the kitchen staff but in order to do so they would have had to at least put some effort into their product which they obviously didn't. I got dressed up and walked over there. My table was ready on time; it was in the lounge area of the restaurant. They offered me the table or said I could sit at the bar. I opted to sit at the bar. The bar was almost full but people were leaving. Apparently people eat early there. The bartender was swamped but smiled and got me a glass of water. Soon I had menus. I like that they have a regular menu as well as a specials menu, including the usual cocktails and some special cocktails. I ordered the conquest, which seemed like a twist on an old fashioned. They offered bread or focaccia bread, I declined. And heads up- bread service is not included. It's an up charge. Normally I don't care but I was having dessert, not bread. I had the halibut special. It was phenomenal. One of the guys from the kitchen dropped it off and asked if I needed anything'- I replied salt. I find that I need salt often at restaurants. They brought the salt out real fast! I had a bite and determined it didn't need any more salt- it was perfectly salted! Woohoo! Fantastic. I ate my whole dish and then I savored my cocktail. The bartender wasn't much for conversation , as she was very busy, alone, covering the entire bar and drinks for the whole restaurant. She did invite me to try dessert, and mentioned a coconut cream cake that was not on the menu. I agreed to it and it was heavenly. Seemed like cheesecake icing with fluffy layers of cake and subtle coconut flakes throughout. The chocolate ice cream was weird at first but then I realized it's like almond joy/ mounds - coconut and chocolate are often paired. The espresso crumble gave it a nice crunch and there was caramel all over the plate. Wow! I took the majority of the cake home. It was a large portion and indulgent. I paid my tab and finished my drink. I was not rushed. I would go back again. It's a bit pricey. The fish special was $58. The cocktail was $17 and the dessert was $16. So one person, who did not add on the bread service, was $91. It's expensive. I would emphasize you can probably get a seat at the bar if you can't get a reservation. Also- the entrance is hard to find. It's in the parking lot and not facing the main road. I got a little lost walking there. The signage is poor. I can't imagine going there the first time in the dark. So give yourself a couple extra minutes if it's your first time going there.

My server was Amanda and she was prompt. I started with a cocktail - the mango tango- and asked some questions about the menu. I had never heard of this Quahog, which apparently is a noreasterner kinda thing. Ok. Chopped clams, bread crumbs, bell peppers etc. why not. I'll try it. Bad choice. It had a good flavor but I kept crunching on shells!!! It seemed like eggshells were in it, everywhere. It was horrible. I kept thinking the next bite won't be like that- but it was. So many bites were bad. I asked the server what was up- she figured it out. It's not shells it's SAND!!!!! They're not cleaning the clams well. Bro. Rookie mistake. This is why I never order scallops. I hate when they're sandy. And now clams?!? I have to stay away from clams?!? Sheesh. She asked if I wanted bread- I said yes. I wasn't sure if the bread was included? It is not included and is an up charge at other restaurants (The Perfect Caper is an example of that, as well as Ortigia). She gave me one piece. It was delicious, served warm and crispy, and the whipped butter was fantastic. I asked what the butter was a Wisconsin country cream. Clean ingredients. Lots of salt. Yum. I also got a small cup of their soup. Amanda said their soups are always good. The soup of the day was braised beef noodle. It was really good. I could see having a bowl of that and a piece of bread and being totally happy. I was torn between the meatloaf and the Portuguese stuffed shrimp. She recommended the meatloaf. Oh boy. That was a great choice; it was huge. Smothered in bruleed cheese and sauteed onions. Lots of gravy. Lots of skinny green beans and a big scoop of mashed potatoes. Wow! What a meal. So good. I got my leftovers wrapped up. I took a piece of the birthday cheesecake home. It was listed on the specials menu. It looked really nice. However, it was not my favorite and actually, I would not recommend it. It's not cake, it's cheesecake, but the sprinkles just ruin the texture and flavor of the cheesecake, which wasn't a great cheesecake to begin with. Skip it. When the bill came, I was surprised the Quahog was on there. Especially because it was so ill prepared and I complained about it. But whatever. I thanked Amanda, paid, finished my cocktail and left. Parking is on the street or in the parking garage structure on the road behind them. Bathrooms are in the back along the long hallway, I didn't check them out. They have a large bar up front and what looks like a room they could do private events / meetings in. They have a new summer menu where all items are $20. I think that's a good deal. They have a lot of great sounding items on their menu and I heard the shrimp Mozambique is amazing. Maybe I'll get that next time.

One guy had a huge crescent wrench hanging out of his back pocket....I'm pretty sure he wasn't there as a mechanic. Where I'm from, that's a weapon. Beers were cold.
