Smoked Elephant 7/2025
Keith B.

So this was picked totally at random. We were staying a little north, and my girlfriend wanted to drive down to Boca Grande, so we picked "The Pink Elephant" sight unseen. Oh. My. We weren't necessarily going for food, but the menu was enticing. We kept it simple. French Onion soup (amazing - simply amazing), Shrimp cocktail, and a Caesar salad, add chicken. Kind of light, not too crazy. But damn was every bit of it amazingly delicious. The staff: fast and attentive. Very friendly and they moved in the small room like it was nothing. The decor is definitely of note - the wood, the elephants, which made me wonder about flooding and how they combat it. The drinks: different without being esoteric where you have to convince yourself you like it because of the price tag. It wasn't the cheapest meal on vacation, but it was probably the most remembered one - to the point we make book at the inn next time.

We had a wonderful day experience at the pink elephant. Service was extremely competent, friendly and wonderful!! And selections were very creative and delicious Atmosphere was just beautiful just on the outskirts of the downtown Boca Grande overlooking the golf course. I definitely plan on coming back!!

Fabulous historical restaurant on darling Gasparilla Island. The food is phenomenal and the drinks have tiny pink elephants perching on the edge. Make reservations well in advance for upstairs, but choose a mid-week afternoon for a lazy lunch on their patio. Worth the drive x 1,000!

This is the bacon?

Not only was it not high season yet, we had to wait considerably for a table but the prices were extremely high and our service wasn't great. The worst thing though, was the $16. 1/2 BLT sandwich (and cup of soup). The soup was fine but the BLT was served on cold toast and after a couple bites I couldn't taste any bacon; I thought they forgot to put it on. When I opened the sandwich, this is what I found; a meager amount of bacon bits. I swear they were the fake crap you buy in a jar at the grocery store! See photo below. I'll never go there again!

Oh my gosh. Cannot recommend this place enough. The wait for an outside table was quite long but we were perfectly fine eating inside. I went based off the reviews and they are completely accurate. It is pricey but you're getting SUCH high quality food. We shared oysters, Thai chili shrimp, and the tuna tartar. I didn't even get a picture of most of the apps because we DEVOURED them. They were by far the highlight of Boca Grande. Our server was so friendly and visited the table just enough. It was a little dark inside, would like to see some more lighting during the day but otherwise not a complaint. The little pink elephants on the drink were the perfect touch. We ended the meal with a cookie skillet. I would pass on this next time only because I was so full from the amazing apps I didn't get to fully enjoy it. Cannot wait to visit again!!

This is a beautiful restaurant in a beautiful setting! We had drinks here and loved every moment! Our server was cheerful and our drinks arrived quickly and our order was perfect!

Ambiance is eclectic and very old school vibe. Go for the drinks and French onion soup - delicious. The rest of the food and service were just okay.

Filet with asparagus and potato

Made a reservation for a nice dinner one night of our vacation without dragging our daughter along. The service was fantastic from the moment we walked up until we left. Our drinks were always topped off, dirty dishes instantly cleared, and constantly being checked on by multiple people. My wife loved the soup of the day and she loved her Thai grouper dish. She ate the entire thing so fast and is still talking about it. I had the filet with a loaded baked potato and asparagus. A very traditional dish compared to my wife and it was just average. The meat was pretty tough and slightly overcooked and lacked amazing flavor. The potato was massive and I enjoyed it. The asparagus were cooked nicely and the portion was fair. Overall, an old person vibe of a restaurant where the majority of younger people are there with their kids and parents that they are clearly visiting, just like us.

We got there around 12ish and were seated right away. There was plenty of parking and the staff was really nice. Our waitress was Eryne and she was really nice. The inside was air conditioned and outside they had fans and umbrella. We got the tuna tartar which was good. The shrimp and crab Ceasars salad was our favorite! We also had the tacos and fish of the day was mahi. We didn't really like the taste and the salsa they put on was overpowering, I would have ask on the side if I knew.

I got the grouper with sweet corn soufflé, and my bf got the grouper with Asiago potato. Yum!!!!!!

Spectacular food, ambience and all around amazing dining experience. Both had the grouper and it was delicious!! Our server Miguel was friendly and attentive. The view was pretty. We will be back.

Relaxed and casual a great service watch your head. If you go back to the bathroom, that ceiling is pretty low!

Food was good, service was good. Place was dated. Could use some updating with the decor. Felt like we were in a basement.

The dock was well maintained and the restaurant/bar has a decent feel with sand all around. It was a super hot day so we made our way inside and snagged one of the few tables that was in there. My brother and I made our way to the bar outside to order drinks for our group. We ordered 2 watermelon mojitos, a margarita, and a strawberry lemonade. The drinks were all served in regular plastic solo cup size cups. I paid $80. This is astronomical especially for what we received. I'm not new to the island hopping life but this was way overpriced. The Watermelon mojito had a sort of phoney taste to it. Maybe it was not fresh juice used. I was told the margarita was just mehhh. But that price for 3 alcoholic drinks and 1 plain lemonade still gets me. This is definitely not the spot to stay for a long time and enjoy many drinks over an afternoon.

Also, the bartenders lie about the prices to intentionally mislead customers. Extremely OVERPRICED drinks! I'm debating alerting the BBB about my experience. Mainstay offers a 16oz glass or a 20oz 'bucket' mixed drink choice. When ordering, I asked the male bartender on 3/17 (St Paddy's) the difference in prices and was told that "The bucket is a better deal if you plan to order two or more drinks since it's only $2 more and you only pay the extra charge for the bucket on the first drink". Great - i planned to order 2-3 drinks so it made sense for me to pay extra for the 20oz 'bucket' drink. When I went up to order my 2nd drink it was a female bartender who took my order this time. I held my empty 'bucket' up to show her I had already purchased it and ordered the Mai Tai in a bucket. I asked if I need to give her my bucket to refill and she said 'no, hold on to it we'll give you a new one'. Well, she did give me a new one but she also charged me $13 AGAIN for the 'bucket' charge. So I paid $20 for the drink + $13 for the bucket. $33 for the drink. The 16oz drink is $18. Bartenders intentionally mislead customers. BEWARE OF THIS PLACE.

Anyone looking to support a quiet waterfront community should certainly consider this gem. Parking in navigation can sometimes be tricky. So consider utilizing the paid parking and security offered by the Pineland Marina Safe Harbor next-door. The twisty windy Road past the historic post office, the Randall research center, and all the grounds of this archaeological treasure trove is worth the drive. But I would not encourage anybody to bike or walk due to limited unsafe pathways and frequent flooding. But once you find your sweet parking spot and don't have to worry about anything. Have lunch at the tarpon Lodge and then walk all through the community of pineland and gaze upon this country club-esque neighborhood that is anchored by an abandoned golf course. Local wildlife is rebounding in this potential preserve. Bird watches especially have opportunities to check rare sightings off of their ornithology list. Including spring time elusives like the Chuck Wills Widow nightjar, white pelicans, juvenile bald eagles looking for their life mates, pileated woodpeckers and so much more. And if you're lucky and you play your cards right, a local might give you a couple fishing tips and some secret spots. So always have a fishing pole and bait ready.
