Wow! What a find. This store has a great variety of different fabrics at amazing prices. And the trims and ribbon selection was exceptional; not only for clothing but home decor as well. I first checked it out on a Saturday. One person was working that day. I was never greeted, or acknowledged. I went back a few days later during the week with my Sister. We were greeted by 2 staff members as soon as we entered. There were other customers in the store as well. The staff was interactive and very helpful with those customers. When we brought our selections to the counter, we were giving the same great customer service. We are both happy with our purchases and will definitely return. read more

Awesome prices and amazing selection. This is the spot for ALL FABRIC And RIBBON. 1.25 or lower a yard for beautiful fabric and ribbon. Some heavier materials might run $2 to $3. But in comparison to Joann's...super great deals. Some ribbons are .50 a yard!! Omg. I went crazy for bows for fall and Christmas crafts. This place used to be open M-Sat until 7pm, which was great. Since La Pandemia it has changed its closing time to 5pm. Who are all these people who are able to shop on weekdays at 10am, 2pm? I'm not quite sure who the target demographic is: The unemployed? Retirees on a fixed income? If your business model does not include getting with the times and realizing that most people who have money to spend on non-essential retail are WORKING till at least 5pm, I don't see how you're going to make it. Get with reality and stay open to accommodate working people's lives. I used to come here several times a month; but they have pretty much lost me with their new 1950s open hours. read more

I would give this place no stars if I could. I used to love coming here with my mom when I was a little girl but now when I come I'm left so frustrated! All the ladies that work there are VERY RUDE. When I tried to ask them where the silk was, they acknowledged that I was in front of them and needed assistance but kept on talking in Vietnamese while glaring at me. When they finally allow me to ask my question, she just pointed towards a general section and went back to her conversation. There's a handful of different fabrics but the store is a bit messy and cluttered. Also makes you feel claustrophobic. When I went to checkout, the lady (again), glare at me and then after waiting 5 minutes watching her talk away, she finally help me. It was a bit odd because when I tried paying with my card, she claimed my card got declined and kept angrily saying that I have to pay a different way. I check my account and had plenty of money. Ultimately, I guess she just wanted me to pay cash. When I was leaving I said thank you and goodbye and she just glare... Really terrible experience that ruined my day. On knott & ball (like 3 blocks away) there M & L fabrics. Go there!!! They're so much nicer and have way more options. read more

Today was my first time going into this store. I was a little apprehensive about going in due to some yelp reviews. I couldn't have been more pleased. They have the best selection of Minky prints I have seen, other than online. The staff were so nice and helpful. One of the comments said they weren't measuring the fabric correctly. Don't know what more they can do? They use a yard stick like everyone else. I'll definitely be going back there again. read more

The entire store is a bit dusty but the prices are hard to beat. Jumbo spools of thread for sewing are $2 for black or white & colours are $2.50. Anywhere else they run for triple that price. They don't have too great of a selection if you are looking for a specific print, but if its a generic theme (xmas) or solids...they have plenty. p.s. I should've took a picture for proof but I picked up some white material & it had $8.95 on it but I was charged $13.96. First off, this is by FAR my favorite fabric store. When I sew, 9 times out of 10 it's apparel, so this place is just freakin' amazing. Most of the negative reviews seem to all complain about the same things. Look. Do not come here if: * You're looking for specific patterned fabrics. Go around the corner to M&L. This place is not for you. In my opinion, they DO have a lot of patterned fabric, it's just hard to sift through. However, I am not a quilter so I trust the other reviews when they say that they look "weird and outdated." YMMV. * It's your first project ever and you have no idea what you're looking for or how to identify it even if you do. The customer service has been fine for me, but I've never asked for a lot of help. If you wander around the store groping at different fabrics, eventually you'll find the section you're looking for. * You are claustrophobic. The aisles are narrow, dimly lit, and rolls of fabric are piled up high. You will be surrounded by fabric on all sides, it could come caving in on you at any moment (it won't). Consider taking some klonopin in advance. * You're in a hurry. Unless you know EXACTLY what you're looking for and you've been here before and have some understanding of the layout, you're not going to get in and out in ten minutes. There are some labels but you're going to have to dig to find what you're looking for. * You have a shitty "the customer is always right and I expect to be catered to" attitude. The employees here have NEVER been rude to me, but it's a business and they have certain policies. If you are polite and respectful, they will respond in kind. Almost like they're human beings. Shocking. It's a minimum 1/2 yard cut, but the fabric is ridiculously cheap (ESPECIALLY when you consider the fact that they're mostly 60" bolts as opposed to the majority 45" you get elsewhere). If you want less then that, feel free to go to a JOANN Fabric and pay three times as much for less fabric overall. If there's a only a little bit left on a bolt, it might be all or nothing. Sorry. They are a small business, and they don't rip you off on the per yard price, so they can't afford to turn the rest into remnants and call it a day. Now on to the good stuff! DO come here if: * You know how it feels to search every aisle of a chain fabric store to find that ONE fabric that you desperately need, only to leave empty handed, defeated, and hopelessly thinking "Maybe what I'm looking for doesn't even exist." Don't fret, it probably does. * You know how it feels to search every aisle of a chain fabric store to find that one fabric that you desperately need, only to find ONE option that ISN'T even exactly what you were looking for and also it's $32/yd. Never again. * You are cool with, or even enjoy, feeling up hundreds of different types of fabric to try and find the perfect one. Unlike my past experiences (see previous two bullet points), I've actually come away with SEVERAL fabrics that meet all of my criteria and I'm forced to choose between them. What a luxury problem to have. I'm not saying you'll find literally THE fabric of your dreams (or sketch). It's still a fabric store, it'll be hard to find an ultra specific pattern along with an ultra specific knit or weave with whatever level of stretch or pile etc etc. But if you're used to the selection at chain stores, prepare to be delighted. * You don't want to spend a boat load of cash. The fabric is very reasonably priced, and the craft supplies (which are very few), are DIRT CHEAP. Side note, don't expect to find a lot of notions here. If they even have them, they're in an as yet unexplored corner of the store and I've never found them. If someone else who's been there reads this and knows where to find buttons and zippers and so on, please reply and let me know! * You really like being left alone to do your shopping. Personally, I hate it when I've wandered around for a while and some sales person walks over and says "Hi! Is there anything I can help you find today?" As a matter of fact yes, I've *just* lost my train of thought - can you help me find that again? I know, that's super unfair - they're just trying to be helpful (or they're worried I'm going to steal something). While I appreciate the offer, I much prefer to find things for myself. If I really get stuck, I'll ask. * You are claustrophobic, but you have pills for that. You will be okay. It's not the *perfect* store, sure. In an ideal world they'd have three times the floor space with wide brightly lit aisles and everything would be within easy reach and neatly labeled. But if they had all that, they wouldn't be able to offer the stellar prices for such an extension selection. This place is worth the extra effort. read more

I love shopping at mom & pop shops, especially during these trying times! They have so many types of fabrics and selections. Besides fabrics, they also have other things for your craft projects. 1/2 yard minimum per fabric. If it's like a flower panel fabric, you will have to buy that whole panel, which is basically a yard. It's only fair for the next person or the person before you did that, otherwise you'd be stuck with majority plain colors and half of the actual fabric design. The prices is so comparable to Joann's when they're on sale/with coupons. Here, no need for coupons because it's not marked up. Easy to spot. Parking is towards the back. Came here with a friend to buy some fabric to make our halloween costumes. The place is Vietnamese-owned and the size of this outlet is pretty decent. There are lots of fabrics to choose from, you just have to spend the time looking. At first I was not impressed with the service here. My friend and I came in at 6pm on a Friday. I almost felt like the lady who helped us was rushing us because she told us to make sure we are done before 7pm because that's when she closes. Eh? I just nicely told her not to worry because we have a good hour left. Besides that, she was actually helpful. My friend and I needed to get fabrics of different types to make five costumes. The lady who helped us became patient and waited for us to make our fabric selections and she cut them all for us. However, she kept commenting on how little we were buying whenever we bought 1/2 a yard of a type of fabric. Sorry lady, we buy how much we need so you would stop?! =[ Anyway, we bought over 10 different types of fabric, about 10 yards worth for 5 costumes and that came out about $30. Not bad! read more

We were searching all over for discounted fabric to use in baby nursery. This store has great options, really good organization (we found other places had good stuff but it's hard to find/disorganized) and reasonable prices. But honestly, the best part was the customer service. We found a fabric we liked and Brianna offered to pick up more from the other location. She was proactive in communication and really provided service that is above and beyond. While we didn't end up buying the fabric, I would 100% recommend this store and shop here next time. All I can say is WOW. I have been in here many times over the years. Back in June I was here and of course I got a great deal but I felt overwhelmed and it didn't seen the most organized. Today I walked into a very different feeling. They are currently organizing the store in a much friendlier shopping experience. It feels cleaner. I appreciate that so much. I'm a freelance costume designer and seamstress -- and I live 2,000 miles away from this store -- however, when I visit my friend who lives in San Diego, we make the 2-hour trip North to visit this store, without fail. It is my favorite fabric store in California by far. It's just my style - self-service (the owner leaves you at peace and allows you to search to your heart's content, which I love). It is a old-school style store with piles and rolls galore -- tons of trim, and loads or hard-to-find dressmaking fabrics, as well as unique novelty items such as buttons, rhinestones, beaded appliques etc. The prices are great (especially for California) and everything is pretty straightforward. I would highly recommend this store to anybody. If you need to be waited on hand-and-foot or are looking for uber-fancy service, you might want to head to L.A -- but if you are hands-on and excited to go on a treasure hunt, this is your place. Messy and not helpful. I went in expecting to not get help from customer service due to the other reviews. The owner is pretty rude, so I can see where they're coming from. But I figured that doesn't matter, because I'm just here for the fabric, but there are some annoying ways she's running the store. 1. Minimum 1 yard of fabric 2. Doesn't honor the price stated... I found fabric at a $3-$6 area (no price tag), brought it, and she charged $6.99 (of course it was the highest one). Then, she changed her mind and said it wasn't supposed to be there, and charged $9. It's fair to charge me the real price, but it's not very honorable to go with the highest one that wasn't told to the customer. read more

I purchased fabric to recover our dining room set and bar stool in Pismo Beach last year... we still get compliments on the fabrics beauty and durability almost daily. It was so easy to work with as well, so when I decided to refinish some vintage side tables that had leather tops I wanted to find some silver metallic waterproof material with a bit of texture to replace the current ugly, damaged leather. I came back to Dorell Fabrics and found exactly what I wanted and instead of the $125 quoted for fabric I really didn't care for, it cost me $18 and change plus a little elbow grease. Hi Store! I came in today, I was the girl with the light green hair. I'm 45, and have lived in HB pretty much my entire life. I've been in Westminster last 8+ years, just off Beach. So I don't know why I've never stopped by since you've been in business for three decades plus. You have the most incredible, most stunning fabrics I have ever seen!! I have never seen the traditional textiles you carry outside of photos. Readers, you need to check this store out!! The store footprint doesn't look too impressive and large from street, but when you enter its a wonderland of all things textile: fabrics, ribbons and lace. Their lace is like nothing I have ever seen!!! Yes, some is traditional, but they have gorgeous, more modern lace I've never seen as well. Prepare to spend some serious time here to take in everything!! You won't find this caliber of textile outside of Taiwan, let alone at any of the familiar chain stores. The prices are unbelievably low too! THIS IS A MUST STOP, even if it's just for the love of all things textile. You'll be able to recommend this store to someone if you just browse.
