Every time I come here it is inspiring! They've expanded and now stock a lot of bag making patterns and supplies calling with fabrics. They have bins full of headstock cuts of fabrics from knits to denims to cottons so it's fun to hunt. They also stock zips and threads and teach sewing. They are a janome dealer too. Prices are reasonable and selection is across the spectrum from home decor to garment and bag making. They also stock fun notions for gifts. read more

My wife was upset with the closing of JoAnne Fabric stores and was looking for new places to find fabrics. I saw a review by Yelp CM Hayley H. about this place and told my wife about it. The next thing I knew I was forced into the car and found myself driving her to Los Alamitos. The store is actually a combination of two businesses; the LA Finch Fabrics store and also a sewing school called Sewing Lab, which has a separate Yelp listing (at https://www.yelp.com/biz/sewing-lab-los-alamitos-los-alamitos-2?osq=Sewing+Lab+Los+Alamitos). This quick review is just for the fabric portion of the store. They are a small shop, not nearly as large as JoAnne Fabrics was, but they have a surprisingly large selection of fabrics to choose from, as well as a vast array of remnants. My wife found several fabrics that she loved and purchased multiple yards of. The women who work here were extremely helpful and congenial, providing exceptional customer service. They also sell sewing machines and a plethora of sewing accessories. I think the non-fabric items are sold by the Sewing Lab side of the business but honestly I was a bit confused about the division, but it really doesn't matter as it's all available for purchase. read more

LA Finch Fabrics had been my go-to for online fabric. Josie always lists detailed and accurate descriptions of fabric and information needed. During the scariest moment of the pandemic I wrote to Josie and told her that I needed certain fabric for masks that I was making for my local hospital and she suggested fabrics and sent me some extra pieces that would work- for free. Josie gets to know her clients and when I finally met Josie- she said she imagined me in head-to-toe denim because I buy so much of it! Too funny. When she listed a particular fabric that I wanted (the knit with birds of prey)- I DM'd her and she set so e aside for me (I guess I was worried it would sell out????). If you are nervous to buy fabric online- don't be- Josie will answer questions you might have and even if you are still nervous- her prices are so good- just pull that trigger! Josie the owner is amazing and she has amazing quality fabric. I mostly order from her online store and she is great about answering questions you may have about the fabric. She has a wonderful selection of fabrics and labels you can add to your projects and a few Indy patterns and notions. The Instagram account gives you updates on new fabrics so I recommend you follow and the Facebook group gives updates on store hours and you can talk with fellow sewing friends. This past weekend I was finally able to make my first trip to the physical store and it was easy to locate and was full of wonderful fabrics I could touch. If you see you know how touching fabric is more fun. Josie was amazing as always and helped me figure out the denim fabric I need for a Mc Calls pattern pant I want to sew. I highly recommend you pop in for a visit and if you live to far her online store is easy to navigate and your questions get answered.
