My daughter had an initial consultation and treatment, which went well. I was less than happy about all the product pushed, but know that I could find similarly effective products for a better price in the future, and the treatment was helpful as well as the additional coaching for my daughter. The "Acne Safe" app is extremely helpful as well. Her initial results were great and she was very satisfied. However, in her follow up visit 2 weeks later, the esthetician said my daughter's skin was exceedingly dry (despite the two other moisturizers I'd already bought that she'd been religiously using) and recommended yet another moisturizer. My daughter felt the coaching that session was less than helpful (vague advice about her diet), and I felt very pressured by the receptionist to schedule future visits. I declined as we were heading into the schoolyear and would have limited, if any, availability except on Saturdays. Later I was informed that the initial process entails several visits, 2 weeks apart, to find an equilibrium, but that was not the understanding I had at the time I booked the first to consultations. Lesson learned. But most egregiously, the esthetician accidently burned my daughter's face. By that evening, my daughter's face was red and hot and swollen, as if she'd been sunburned. She could not even use the most gentle cleanser we have (Cetaphil) without discomfort. By the next morning, it was hot, puffy, and cracked, like a wind burn or eczema patch, all around the area where product was applied. It took her 4 days to recover, and she is still very unwilling to return for additional treatments. I can't say that I blame her. I believe in acne treatment, and the extraction and coaching are helpful to teens who need that extra support, when a daily cleanser and moisturizer are not enough. The product lines are fine, and you can always say no if you don't feel like you need it. But a burn on a 16 year old's face is, although accidental and unintentional, really not acceptable. The clinic manager did reach out, and it is very obvious that the team at Face Reality really care about their patients and successful treatments. Although initially defensive in response to my frustrations with the experience rather than seeking to understand my point of view, eventually we were able to communicate clearly with one another. Kudos to the team at Face Reality in Danville for being willing to listen, and take learnings from mistakes and turn them into positive change for future clients. read more

My first facial during the pandemic and you don't know how ECSTATIC I was. They recently moved facilities and are located on the second floor of The Rose Garden Shopping Center. The space is open and inviting and I was kindly greeted by Kylie who checked me in. Brandon was my Acne Expert and was nothing but pleasant. Ive tried a couple of their products, they are ok - not that I would repurchase by any chance but they didn't irritate my skin so .. However, their sunscreen is literally a disaster - it is super drying yet feels extremely heavy on the skin, my skin becomes flakey every time I apply it on. Extremely disappointed and turned off with my experience at the face reality clinic in Danville, they do not care about their customers they only care about squeezing as much money as they can from you. I have been a loyal customer to face reality for years. I see a face reality esthetician who gave me a routine with the right products that will work for me and have spent thousands on treatments/products. Since my esthetician doesn't sell these products anymore I came in to pick up some more products from the Danville clinic but the older clinic manager Amy Jo Lustan was trying to force me into purchasing an unnecessary $90 consultation in order for me to purchase the same products I have been using and recommended by my face reality esthetician. This is ridiculous as she would not allow me to purchase the products without also paying for an unnappointment first just to be recommended the same products again. I am a college student and drove very far hoping to have a good experience here but after this interaction I would never recommend anyone to go to face reality as it is a big SCAM. Amy showed deep lack of compassion and made my customer experience extremely unwelcoming and upsetting. I will also be letting all my friends in the skincare community know about my experience. Their products work!! For a mild adult acne client, I've been satisfied and loyal for years. The combination of their products and using make up free of pore clogging ingredients, I've seen results! My first appointment with Face Reality was about 5-6 years ago. They put me on a regiment that I have since tweaked to make work for me. I use 2 products that help keep breakouts at bay. The reason for my 3 star review is the approach of most of the staff. If you come for a facial and you have major breakouts they interrogate you about your regimen, what you might be eating to trigger breakouts and how much and how often you are using the products. If you come for a facial and have a couple blemishes, they ask where are your breakouts? In other words, you don't need to be seen for acne. Ok - Obvi your products work! I'm here for a maintenance facial. It's like I'm sorry so do you want my business? I say business because this is not a medical office this is a for profit company. Be nice to people paying you for a service. If my acne in their eyes is not bad, I'm ready to go back to spa facials elsewhere! At least you relax and get pampered. But bottom line - this is an acne clinic. If you have severe acne, they'll help you out. Just make sure you stick to their regiment. I guess my time has come to move on. read more

This place has been a game changer for me and my skin. First off my aesthetician Lisa, is not just the most amazing and talented and knowledgeable employee but also a wonderful person. I have been working with her for the last 6 months and my journey to clear skin has been wonderful. She guided me through skin care routine on every visit. Did a whole bunch of acne clearing stuff on each visit that made my skin feel lighter and healthy. I have been suffering from acne for the last 15 years and have seen multiple doctors . Anyone who has acne must have done the same and knows the pain of taking antibiotics, putting multiple topical creams, and all to no avail. The treatment I was given at this clinic changes everything from day one. Their treatment plan is very transparent with no hidden costs. Their goal is to help your skin and help you feel better about your health. They don't pressure you to visit more often to make more money. Instead after a few visits they will recommend infrequent visits and give very tailored skin treatment. Their products work very well as they are custom to each patient's needs. I purchased the virtual Acne Boot Camp package at $250 which consists of an initial consultation with an aesthetician where pretty standard content is reviewed. It was not an overly customized process to be honest. Just reading through worksheets FRAC created. They sent me my regimen which amounted to $206 and was included in the $250. In addition to this, they advertise 2 follow up consultations. I had one follow up in response to my negative reaction, it was maybe 15 minutes and just me expressing my concerns and being told how to add the actives. The third consultation was set up for two weeks later and I was told that would only 15 minutes too.... I guess I'm confused on that, I assumed the 2 follow ups would be spread apart more as you make progress over a period of time.... Not in 1 month and just to add products to your routine? Idk, just feels like it could be more meaningful than that. So here's where the 1 star comes in. Unfortunately these products do not agree with my skin. For starters, i mentioned to the aesthetician that coconut derivatives need to be avoided and she said there are none in their products; however, caprylic/ capric triglycerides (aka. Fractionated coconut oil) are in some of their products which I gather is what is causing me to break out. One observation I've made in reading the businesses responses to disappointed customers is vehement defense that it's not their issue... which was my experience when speaking with their lead aesthetician and my aesthetician, over and over they kept saying "you're purging." I expressed I am not purging because for 1-2 weeks I was only using the cleanser, calming toner, clearderma moisturizer, and spf.... All of which have no actives so no - that's not purging... that's straight up clogging your pores. I let my aesthetician know of my issues and agreed to proceed with the actives to see how things would go. As a result, 1.5 weeks later, I ended up with more acne and dryness.... "but purging takes 90 days" no, Face Reality, just no. I know my skin. Now, research will show that purging usually occurs in places you normally break out in... this was not the case for me. I was breaking out in places I do not usually and the acne was very angry. I've used tazorac and more intense actives than mandelic acid 8% and have never had this kind of "purging." Example - I don't breakout on my forehead, never experienced purging on my forehead with tazorac which is the most aggressive Retinoid... yet, Face Reality made me break out there. So, now that's out of the way.... I have asked 5 times now to return my products for a refund. (1. Called their warehouse and was told someone from the clinic would call me.... No call, 2. Called again, was transferred to clinic, told to talk to my aesthetician, talked to my aesthetician and agreed to start actives, 3) called clinic again asking to return for refund, spoke to lead aesthetician, he said my aesthetician would call me the following day to sort it out, no call 4. Lead aesthetician called me to reschedule my appt not realizing he spoke to my yesterday about return, he said I can get an exception to their policy and return the products and someone will be in contact with me to move the process forward 5. Today, 8/19 emailed my aesthetician asking for refund and recalling convo with lead aesthetician... no reply) Per their e-commerce website they specifically state you can return products with at least 50% product remaining within 30 days. Their lead aesthetician told me they could make an exception for me but they usually don't accept returns for opened product. I understand their e-commerce may be different than their clinic; however, I was a virtual client and they literally share the same phone number so it's the same company as far as I'm concerned. Ok, so back to the refund "exception," he then said someone will contact me to set up my refund... yeah, this is the 3rd time I've been told I would be called back to discuss and no one has. Super disappointed because it seems to me they don't want to give me a refund and are brushing me off in hopes I'll give up. I think I'm being reasonable... I don't expect the full $250. I think it's fair to give $50 for the consultation and get $200 back for the returned product. So- Face Reality, please do the right thing. Comply with your return policy as the FTC would be sure to make you obliged and secondly, acknowledge that your products will not work for everyone. Some people have allergies or sensitive like ahem me who specifically said I can't use coconut and not that I expect your aestheticians to be chemists but they should understand/ research ingredients when someone mentions sensitivities. I've worked in the manufacturing side of supplements and beauty products, most companies have to gather data on adverse events to report to the FDA, so I think it's important to acknowledge that CAN happen and it's not always "purging." read more

Just wanted to provide an update as I've been receiving services with Face Reality for a few years now: During the COVID lockdown, my skin definitely suffered but totally bounced back once I started receiving treatments with Face Reality again. Their products were able to sustain most of the clarity in my skin and the glow has definitely been restored now that I'm receiving maintenance treatments at the clinic. Since being back, I've been seeing Michelle for treatments and she is awesome! Michelle is very warm, knowledgeable, and thorough and I've really seen an improvement in the texture and tone of my skin. After 2 years, I took my son for a facial this morning. Face Reality Clinic relocated to Danville and opened their doors this week. I was lucky to book an appointment for my son. The minute we walked in, we were warmly greeted by Alex. She immediately remembered my son as he, at some point was her client. My son received an amazing treatment. His esthetician was Michelle. My son enjoyed his facial and said that Michelle was gentle on his face especially during extractions. At the end of the visit, we purchased a few products and was given acne med for free. However I was pleasantly surprised that whatever magic Marcela worked made it painless as possible. It was a very rewarding experience for me and I loved the way my face felt afterwards. I've been frequenting this place for 8 or 9 years. They will get you clear and keep you clear. Period. And not just the acne; they can clear the lingering hyper-pigmentation that happens w/ dark skin too. The only caveat, you have to follow their instructions; and not just the stuff pertaining to the ingredients in skin care, hair care and make up products. Follow their suggestions and change your diet too. When I first started going here I only sorta kinda followed their diet suggestions (cutting back/out on dairy, soy, peanuts, etc.). Then I did a round of Whole 30 (with no thoughts about my skin in mind) and continued following my skin care routine... My skin became this ethereal, clear, pore-less thing. You can see just about anyone (which will be the case unless you specifically ask) and they will know what to do. I can tell they all have been trained in a certain way and they stick to it. Some may not like this approach, but it works. One esthetician may be more aggressive with extractions than another but overall, they seem to be using the same play book. And it works. I can not stress this enough. So why only 3 stars? I've had a few interactions w/ the front desk over the years that have left much to be desired. For instance at one point I was on mandelic acid. I ran out and came back to purchase more. I used it for about 3 days and my skin was on fire. So I stopped. I came in for my facial the following week and come to find out I was sold mandelic 15% when I was using 8%. I had no idea at the time there was a difference. However, I was not offered a refund or even an exchange since the product was open. From that day forward, I have been hesitant and cautious with my purchases from them. The next instance came when I had to reschedule an appt. I called @ exactly 23 hours prior to my appt and they were seriously going to try to charge me the less than 24 hours canceled/missed appt fee. I wasn't even going to miss the appt. I just needed to come in later or the next available time. And I had NEVER missed an appointment or even been late in the past. It went to the business manager guy and he sorta hassled me before realizing I wasn't an habitual abuser. I didn't have to pay the fee but it should have never even been an issue in the first place. So yea. There are a few more instances that have transpired but you get the point. They pretty much taught me how to take care of my acne prone skin from the inside out. And I truly appreciate it, but because of the front desk type issues I've started to taper off from them. I can't say I won't ever be back but I know of a 1 or 2 Face Reality trained estheticians in other spas/offices in the Bay Area. I will probably transition over to one of them. read more

#MiddleAgedProblems!!! I did a very silly thing and did not research the generic substitute that my insurance plan allowed for my birth control pills. While some BCP can actually be beneficial to your complexion, other formulations (and methods) can do just the opposite! I didn't have an acne crisis, BUT I did have more stuff going on with my skin than I had in memorable history. Since I've taken care of my skin, it was baffling and disappointing to feel like I had to wear any product at all to color correct and "even out" my skin tone. For a 38-year old skincare fiend, it was beyond annoying. I went to the same MedSpa, and renewed my diligence with lactic acid (no down-time, gentle) peels and facials. And what got me thinking about FR was reading my gal pal Robin L.'s review of this place! I also noticed that Simone F. and Mary J. had also given 5 glowing stars, but of course, I kept asking myself: CAN IT REALLY BE THAT GOOD??? I read through the website, and I conferred with Robin L., who does have absolutely radiant skin - I NEVER would have guessed that she'd struggled with her complexion. I think it's extremely brave of everyone who's posted their candid experiences. While I was prepared to follow the product and 2-week facial routine, my first experience was less than an hour, start to finish. I'd been advised to allow 90 minutes for my first appointment which included a consultation and treatment session. My first aesthetician was chirpy and followed the program script excessively, to the point that it felt like I was a one-person infomercial audience. It made me kind of queasy, to be honest, and I was really grumpy during the 'consultation' phase which just felt really contrived. I've been seeing paramedical aestheticians since I was 25, and I've had a lot of regular and advanced treatments: facials, a range of peels, Pixel, photo-facials... So it seemed odd that I'd get a better result with a place that doesn't have a board-certified dermatologist and clinical nursing staff! Happily, I was WRONG! After just 2 weeks, my complexion is smoother and more even. The occasional lumps and bumps are gone, and yes: my pores have been meticulously purified. Go. Go with an open mind, and commit to following directions. Be prepared to make changes to your diet, grooming products and even laundry habits! My second visit was much better; Kathryn is very knowledgeable and I definitely felt like she was prepared to answer my questions directly, not with a flash card. She was very effective, and not as heavy-handed as the first experience, which made me tearing up for 20 minutes, straight. I can take a lot with the extractions - I'm very used to it. I don't like foo-foo facials; I prefer them to be therapeutic, not glorified face-washing. Perhaps I just had a lot of stuff embedded in my SKULL that needed to be excavated the first time around. After Kathryn's attention, I didn't look or feel like raven's had pecked my face to shreds as with the first appointment. Good news: you will get fresh pairs of eyes on your skin frequently. Bad news: you cannot be guaranteed a specific provider without paying a $25 fee, and even then, I am not sure it's 100% certain. The idea is: congested pores are like landmines, waiting for the right trigger: hormones, dietary agitators or stress to BLOW UP in your skin. Face Reality protocol = clean them out before they get inflamed, control and reduce existing inflammation and medicate your skin so you have no opportunistic junk in your pores at all. It sounds ambitious, but seeing the difference in how my skin responds to FR facials vs. others I've had, even the SAME problem spot that just never seemed to completely go away, is now almost vanished! I don't know why I've never sat down and wrote a review for this place but this place honestly saved me. There was a point where my face broke out like super crazy, I'm telling you not a single spot on my face was clear. And I didn't know why it happened within three months I was going through it. So I just took the jump and came here. Within 3 months my face cleared up right away, of course I also had to kinda cut out dairy to help but over all! Clear, saved me. After a little over 2 years.... I am finally free. Free of having to wear thick make-up to cover clogged pores. Free of always feeling like I need to wear foundation. Free of my super expensive facials every 2 months because I need the extractions. FREE! Truth be told, my skin experienced a major transition just a few months after starting at Face Reality. And I've been able to maintain clear skin by what I am now calling the magical 3: 1) Products: I use most of their products which as I mentioned in my first review, are actually cheaper than the products I was using before. I use their cleanser (I skip the toner), their mandelic syrum, their sunscreen and their acne med at bedtime (the one with the sulfur for spot treating is like magic but I use the regular one consistently and it's cheaper here than I can buy at a drug store). ***Also, under their advisement I buy pure aloe vera to put under the acne med rather than using their hydrating emulsion. I feel like it is thicker, provides more protection and of course, it's so cheap! 2) Tune-up Appointments: Every so often I go in for a treatment where they can get out things that I can't. For me, I don't have to do this very often and I usually just book an appointment when I know I am going to need products. 3) Diet/Lifestyle changes: It's amazing but some subtle changes, like not drying my face with a towel after I've washed it, changing my pillow cases more frequently and not eating soy has cleared me up (did you know that soy is a big cause of breakouts!) I never thought I'd be one of those people that would ever go out of the house without makeup....but I do it now all the time.........because I'm FREE. I would like to address a few things: 1. The professionalism of the eathetician, addressing personal issues to customers, like issues at work place, being isolated during break time, stealing her customers, bullying her etc.. that made me feel uncomfortable. It's not like we became friends and started hanging out and whatnot. Plus, i am not a therapist and i came to face reality for a treatment for my skin issues. 2. The treatment that i got made my skin worse. And i was told that it will get worse before it gets better. As a person that has worked in the beauty industry, been trained about skin for many years, i have never heard of any product in the world that will make your skin worse before it will make it better. And then i stopped using it and i started using my own AHA 25% and it helped, the pimples went away, i told her... but she blamed that and told me that it is why my skin broke out even after explaining it is why it went away. 3. I went to get my blackheads extracted professionally, i don't have acne but i figured they will be really good in extracting acne... and i really wanted the pores on my nose cleaned out.. she said they don't extract those because they are just sebacious blah blah.. no need to.. even after saying it over and over. I guess they don't care about customer's satisfaction? When i got home, i noticed one blackhead she extracted was not extracted properly and after two days, it got even bigger, i had to extract it myself and since i know how to do it, i saw that the sack was not removed. The hygiene was also questionable. I have been to many spas in my life. This clinic is different, as an acne clinic, wow, it needs to be more disinfected and estheticians need to show they are careful and clean with their process. 4. I brought my son because he has a huge pimple on his nose and tons of whiteheads that have been bugging me. So, again, no solution to it, blame it to the no lancet policy in the clinic. Hmmmm.... acne clinic with none of those... and if the treatment does not work, why does the esthetician blame the customer? If the treatments do not work and break out the customers' skin, why do the esthetician blame the customer? All i can say is, i would like to get my $600 back, i spent both days as the esthetician's therapist. I think it's just fair. Plus, my skin got worse, and the treatment did not work at all- and according to the esthetician that does not want to make me happy- it is my own fault. She does not want to listen to my concerns and she does not care. So i really do not want anything to do with this clinic anymore, i can return all the products, please give me a full refund for the services, tips and products as well. I will trully appreciate it. I wrote a review before this, but it was really bad, so i composed myself and thought of a better one. This is longer, but i think it is more pleasant. I am, however, really really upset, not sure it you can tell, but you have to know, i'm very unhappy. So i want my money back. I do not deserve to pay for this type of treatment only to feel this way. Face reality reached out to me, in all fairness, they care about their customers! They have refunded all the money i have spent and took care of my concerns and listened carefully about everything i felt during both visits for me and my son. I have no idea what happened to the unprofessional esthetician, but i'm sure what she did does not reflect to face reality's ettiquette.
