Only adding an extra star for the person who helped me with shade matching, she was so sweet and genuinely helped me find my perfect shade! I'm not sure what her name is but shoutout to her she was so kind :) My issue was with one of the associates I asked a question to regarding a product I was interested in. After she mentioned she's never tried it, she started asking me what my skin care routine was. Honestly I had no issue with that, my issue was her hella critiquing my skin while making these faces (which I don't even think she realizes she makes). It definitely did not make me as a customer feel welcomed, and in the moment I literally said "I know my skin isn't the best right now" cause she just kept it up with her faces and comments. As I was mentioning my skincare routine before applying makeup, she cut me off asking if I exfoliate since she saw I had a few blemishes here and there, and this whole convo wasn't even supposed to be this deep about skincare. I was literally just asking about a makeup product... As a college student with acne prone skin i'm very aware I don't have glowing skin, it's a work in progress. But those faces and attitude was straight up unwarranted. I literally had to just walk away mid speech about her being a "skincare expert", like girl I get it you're trying to be somewhat helpful but there's other ways to assist customers than the way you did. This review is for the salon only. I was very shocked to find that Ulta actually has a Hair Salon. So after a recommendation, I went and got my haircut and was extremely pleasantly surprised. It was very affordable! I paid $48 to have my hair cut, washed and styled. Of course, that doesn't include the tip. My stylist was incredibly knowledgeable. DO NOT GET YOUR HAIR DONE HERE. They made me look like Cindy Lou Who on one side and like I was in a wind tunnel on the other side. Look how it's sticking out! My appointment started at 2:45 and ended at 4 PM... I included time stamps in the photos on this review because somehow the "experience manager" needed proof of the timing. The stylist kept saying that it was going to get better and I kept trying to be encouraging. It did not get better. Her next client showed up so... she decided it was done and gave me back my glasses. I looked at it in the mirror quickly and then left. When I was trying to look for lip gloss, someone else who was shopping gave me this look like and I knew it was really bad. The store manager said my hair looked beautiful in the store..... and in the moment, I was like... maybe it's not that bad?! IT WAS THAT BAD. Ducked out of the store as quickly as possible - so embarrassed. I've been to the store three times now trying to ask for a refund. On my last visit, the salon manager literally shushed me. To be clear: I was not yelling. And because the store manager liked it after she saw it, they're wasting more of my time trying to get "all sides of the story." The ends of my hair were literally white from all of the powder that the stylist used on my hair. Because of all of the product, I had to wash it out before my formal and start all over. I was very pleasantly surprised by this location and the ease to access it. Inside, it did not disappoint ; it has many fragrances that I wanted to try out before forking out $170+ and commit to a scent for 18 months. I was also able to shop for fun yet quality product for the birthday party my tween is attending. The disappointment came in the show of the staff who just not carry the brand at all. Warning. Long Review: I went to this particular Ulta location with my daughter today, 2/5/26. We went in to exchange a Miss Dior perfume that she did not like. Our plan was simple: go to Ulta, exchange the perfume, then smell some lotions and find some oils to purchase. So that's exactly what we did. There was one person in the hair area who acknowledged us and asked if we needed help. After that, we proceeded to look around and ended up in the Hempz lotion area. We started smelling the lotions and began picking some out. While we were there, this associate started walking around the area. I had three lotions on my arms, so I decided to grab one of their shopping bags to carry the products. I could feel her eyeing us. I brought the bag over, put the lotions inside, and continued smelling the lotions. The ones I decided to take, I placed in the bag. She kept hovering around the area we were in, and not once did she ask if we needed help. Eventually, I started thinking, is she eyeing us in particular? But then I brushed it off and told myself I was probably imagining things because this has never happened to me before. Mind you, we took a while smelling all the Hempz lotions and other products around the area. My daughter and I are really into lotions and body sprays and all that right now. There was also another guy nearby pretending to smell things and look at products. I didn't pay him much attention at first. We finally finished picking out the items we were going to purchase. I commented to my daughter, "Is it just me, or was that woman eyeing us?" She said yes, she felt it too. She said the associate made eye contact with her multiple times, and the guy was there watching us as well. The moment we grabbed our items and walked toward the line to pay, those two employees disappeared. I know this because it stuck in my head, and I decided I was going to speak to them -- but they were nowhere to be found. It's unbelievable how they assume someone is there to shoplift. I'm sure that's what they thought, because otherwise why would they be watching only us when there were plenty of other people in the store? I have never in my life stolen anything, and this was extremely insulting. I don't understand what we did to make them think we were there to steal, especially when I was using the shopping bag they provide. I will never go to this Ulta store again. It's crazy that they hire this type of judgmental people to provide "customer service." At the very least, approach someone and ask if they need help. The only positive experience I can say we had was with the two cashiers who helped us during the exchange and purchase. They were really nice. I visited Ulta today and my experience started off wonderfully. Rita assisted me from the beginning and truly went above and beyond. She was incredibly patient, knowledgeable, and genuinely invested in helping me choose the right products. Because of her care and attention, I ended up purchasing far more than I originally planned. She made the experience enjoyable and welcoming. I regret that, with everything that happened at checkout, I forgot to tip Rita, as she truly deserved it. At checkout, I mentioned that I believed I had a 10% discount. When we reviewed it, I learned that the offer was valid only for online purchases. The associate at checkout was helpful and explained that I could enter all the items for pickup online, or, to save me the hassle, I could request that the manager apply the discount in-store. I did attempt to place the order online, but while adding all 16 items, the app showed that two of them were unavailable for pickup, even though I had them in hand. At that point, I politely requested that the manager apply the discount in-store--a courtesy many stores often extend without hesitation. The manager was called over, and unfortunately, this interaction completely changed the tone of my visit. She was very intimidating in her approach and repeatedly emphasized--three times--that this was a "one-off" exception and would not be repeated. I understood this the first time, and the repetition felt unnecessary and uncomfortable. I decided not to respond to the manager's repeated reminders out of respect for the trainee manager and Rita, who had both been extremely kind and professional. My intention was never to push boundaries; I simply felt that requesting for the existing discount to be applied in-store was reasonable, especially given the size of my nearly $300 purchase and the inventory limitations, as it would save me time and hassle. I did receive the discount in-store, and I do appreciate that. However, customer service sets the tone for a brand. I entered the store feeling welcomed and valued because of Rita, and I left feeling conflicted--unsure whether to be grateful for the discount or unsettled by how intimidating the manager's demeanor was. Ashley was amazing - not only did she find me a lipstick with extra moisture for my age, she helped me with a foundation, mascara and a lipstick gloss that was a better price - gaining my trust on that move - I asked her about a cologne for my husband since I was there...and I walked out with Monte Blanc Legend. Ashley was super friendly; she listened to my concerns, clearly can read a face - all and all the best experience I have ever had with makeup. What is up with this Ulta? Honestly, all Ulta locations suck in regards to customer service, but this one takes the cake. Walk in, no greeting as usual, walk around aimlessly for ten minutes before anyone asks to help. On brand for Ulta. When someone did finally ask, they simply waved their hand in the direction of where I had already gone about five times. I expressed that I already walked down that aisle and must have missed the brand I was looking for multiple times. If I were a worker hearing that, I would have just walked the customer over to the display! It would have taken two seconds and I would have appreciated if she could have just walked with me in the sea of brands they carry. Once I got to checkout, there was only ONE person in front of me and ONE person behind me. I went at 3pm on a weekday so, not crowded or busy at all. The same girl who waved her hand at me walks up and goes "Umm, the line starts back there actually." In other words, she wanted me to go all the way down the aisle to just then wrap back around and come up the row instead of standing in line near the register like you do at literally every single store ever (which made more sense to me logistically, but apparently, was wrong). The people in front of me had just wrapped up their transaction, so I told the girl "I mean, they're done now" and she just gave me this blank stare like no one was home. Did she really need to instruct me like that with attitude when there were only two of us waiting ? Sorry, but I'm not walking all the way down and back around just for a silly formality. I absolutely get needing to do your job and follow the rules, and if she had actually been nice or helpful, I would have complied or at least not matched her energy in terms of attitude, but I'm not going to have someone check me like that for a really ridiculous reason that frankly does not matter at all. The girl at the register didn't even say hi, just immediately said "Put your phone number in" to which I said "I don't have one, just want to buy this stuff today, thanks." She then completely ignored me and just talked to her coworker the entire time, which is another CLASSIC Ulta worker move. Like, dude, come on, I worked customer service in retail for years, it's really not hard if you have a decent personality. And if you don't, get a different job. To make matters worse, the mascara I bought was supposed to be 30% off per the sign posted on the end cap, but when I looked at my receipt, the girl hadn't honored it. For a long time, there was no specialty cosmetics shop in or around San Ramon area, and just a few years ago, Ulta decided to make shop in San Ramon. This location is right of the freeway, in a small shopping center with lots of different restaurants, pet shops, and the Sees candy store. Store Itself: Bright, clean, neat, and spacious. This is one of the larger stores with a huge selection of products as well as having a hair salon in the rear of the store. All shelves are fully stocked with all your specialty cosmetics products and much more. Service: Very friendly and helpful. Was looking for a gift, and the kind store associate knew exactly where to find what I was looking for and even showed me where it is, rather than just pointing "over there". Big plus! Overall: A friendly and clean store to find any of your favorite cosmetics needs with great service and a bright environment. read more

"Madhouse on this very first day!" That's right, it's the grand opening at the new store in San Ramon! Keep in mind that parking can be a little bit tough in this area. This store is actually in the parking lot of the old Max's Diner if you remember that. There is no longer in Max's Diner, but in this center, there are several different restaurants. Today, all the employees were really helpful and friendly. They asked if I had any questions and directed me to the rear of the store, where the salon is located. I'm not sure if they were trying to give me a hint about something or not. I only saw a few employees in the salon working today. So overall, a great experience with lots of friendly people and of course a giant selection of merchandise. I think they are really off to a good start. read more

Today was the grand opening of Ulta and it's the busiest I've ever seen any Ulta but then again they had a promotion where the first 100 customers get a gift valuing $5-100. It's still shiny and new and all the testers haven't been completely decimated, as well as all the shelves were fully stocked and nicely aligned and pretty. Again, not sure how long this will last, so go here now while it's still nice, clean and organized. The parking is not too bad, they added a bunch of new parking for this location that shares parking with other restaurants and establishments. The only thing I didn't appreciate was the debris and questionable items in the parking area that I was scared of driving over in fear of popping a tire or something. Folks inside were kind and friendly. They had a bunch of folks from Benefit there but again this is a special grand opening thing. They have a beauty bar in the back for your hair and beauty needs. It's your standard Ulta, but working fast and well...which again, not sure how long this will last as this is the grand opening and I'm sure it's all hands on deck for the first few days. I'm sure it'll go down to 1 person at the cashier if you're lucky and long lines...do I sound jaded or cynical? I should be more hopeful that this location will not go down the tubes like many other Ultas. So I'll review again much later when the hype dies down. But it's nice to have this close to work though the Sephora is much closer and surrounded by more shops that I end up spending my money at (I'm looking at you Athleta...). I would give more stars, solely based on who i believe might be a manger, she is African American and has long braids- i believe glasses as well.. she is so polite and attentive . However i went in, bought some lashes, a few different styles. Noticed one box had a price on it and didn't realize when i got checked out i was charged more . I got home, checked my receipt and noticed so i gave them a ring and the women i spoke to said no problem, just bring them back and we can take a look and honor the price . So i went back the following day and check the same style i got- price was still "incorrect." Today while shopping I noticed a woman trying on all the Anastatia lipstick testers on her lips, putting the product directly on her skin. I took one of the contaminated testers to the manager and explained how the whole front row of testers should probably be pulled because the customer was rubbing them on her mouth. I went back to shopping and for the next 20 minutes no one went to replace the testers. Just wanted to give a heads up to shoppers. In the time of covid, and other possible diseases customers could possibly carry on their lips, I would not use any of the testers at this ulta. Better to buy a closed one and then return the product. I didn't catch the managers name but she was a young, short black woman. She was sweet and listened, but protecting the health of their consumers is obviously not a priority here. read more

I've been shopping here since the San Ramon location opened, and every sales associate I've met has been truly helpful and professional. And for that, Ulta San Ramon gets 5 stars. Over the past three years or so, however, this location has been ridiculously low on product. As recent examples, I stopped in to buy tinted moisturizer. I had a sample of a color that worked well for me, but the coverage was not quite right. I asked for something more oil-free, and after the sales associate researched colors and coverage, she found four different brands/colors that matched what I was looking for. I tried the testers, one by one...and one by one, we discovered each was out of stock. Really? All of them? I ended up ordering one of the suggested options on-line, but from the manufacturer instead. I returned to Ulta San Ramon just this week, looking for my favorite mascara and eye shadow, from two different lines, and surprise...neither had stock. So I went to Sephora, where I find some of the sales associates to be a little less helpful, but they had the products I wanted. Bottom line, I want to buy local and I want to buy from a place that's most convenient to my home or work, which is Ulta San Ramon. But since I can't seem to find the specific products I want, I am moving on so that I'm not wasting my time driving, searching, and ultimately not finding any products I want. read more

When I saw they were opening an ULTA beauty in San Ramon's Magnolia Square, I thought it was an odd place. It's a plaza that doesn't have a ton of retail and the big draws are a Starbucks and Petco. However, the upside is that it's near my office and has plenty of parking. Given it's unique location, it's also less crowded and more organized than other ULTA locations I've visited. Each time I've stopped by, they had in stock the brand or item I was looking for. I was able to get in and out quickly. These two pluses aren't always the norm at other locations. Their staff is wonderful-always very helpful. Special shout out to the ladies who helped me retrieve the lip gloss I left on their counter after purchasing it last week. I called later in the day and they had put it aside for me after realizing I left it there. They could have easily just put it back on the shelf but were conscientious enough to notice it was left on the counter by a paying customer. Went for an Express Root Touch up in San Ramon, CA, with Azezay. I do my roots dark blond and told her. I ended up with splotchy bright red and dark brown. I came back one day later and talked to her and the manager after talking with my regular color girl (she was not available and thought I would give Ulta a try). My old colorist said that it was indeed way red (I am dark blond) and she suggested to do a color removal to get red tones out, and since it is a color correction it would cost me a lot due to the time being spent. I told the manager I wanted a refund from yesterday and for her to pay for correction. She said she could only do a refund of yesterday or have the same colorist who messed up my hair correct it for free. I got her name and asked for district manager's name and number. She said they do not give district manager's number and to call customer service. So here I am, stuck with a bad color job, not wanting to go back to the colorist, and I have to pay for someone to do the correction. Do not go to San Ramon, CA Ulta to get express root color. I go to multiple different Ulta locations and started coming to this one on occasion if they have certain things in stock. The store is clean, well organized but selection of brands is limited at this location. For the most part, I'm greeted by cashiers, there's been many times I wasn't but that's ok, I'm an expert navigating beauty products.. lol. I've never been asked if I needed help or recommendations either which is also ok, again an expert here... I recently had a negative experience here, I'm a YSL perfume junkie and they had "limited stock" at this store and another one nearby. They had an online Black Friday "just added" deal where it was significantly discounted. It sold out online within minutes so my thought was to purchase online and do store pickup at this location since it was nearby the gym I go to. When there is only 1 left of a certain item you can't purchase and do store pickup for whatever reason, maybe because it's not guaranteed in stock. I called the store, spoke to an associate and told her what I was trying to do and that I was trying to order online and do store pick up since it was an online only deal and if they would honor the price since I was unable to add to cart. She placed me on a hold, asked her manager then said it would be fine. I get to the store and they tell me they can't honor what I was told and then the "CM" steps in and says "they were told by higher up's, stores will not be honoring that deal" even though the store had both sizes of what I was looking for and I was trying to order online for store pickup and just couldn't add to cart due to limited quantity. She was pretty snobby and I didn't appreciate the demeanor either. I ended up calling the other location nearby that had it, explained the same situation and they honored it with absolutely no issues and this wasn't the first time either, that location goes above and beyond for their customers and being it was crazy Black Friday and I specifically did not want to go to that location they totally took care of me and with the best customer service as well. I understand every store uses their own discretion, what I didn't appreciate was being lied to and told Ulta "headquarters" stated no stores will be honoring something when that clearly wasn't the case. I selected Partial highlights on the website because I already had highlights in the past and now need them on the head area only. When I reached at the salon, she was not polite and not cooperative at all. She said why do you make online appointments without looking at your hair if selected service can be done on your hair or not. I told her because ULTA is giving us this option. They don't know which is Cruelty free- except there is signing all around labeling the products as such.
