When I walked in, they had two customers in chairs and three barbers working. As a result, no wait. Rudy was available to take me on and did just that. Friendly, funny, and he listened to what I wanted. Through the funny banter between the three barbers, us customers, Rudy did his work, all along checking in with me on progress. I like the concept of this place- old school barbershop with a trendy feel. My kids and I arrived around 2pm on a Friday and there was already a list forming. No appointments, walk-ins only. There were 4 barbers, chairs full, and a few people waiting. So, I put our names down and waited. I really don't know how long I waited because I was occupied with my kids. Aaron was friendly and did a nice job with my kids' hair. So, why the 3 stars and hesitation to return? About a week before actually going to the barbershop, I searched high and low for a phone number. I really wanted to find out the prices before walking in. I found a number on google and called, but never heard back. I don't mind paying for good services but I wanted to know beforehand- especially because Fade Kings only accepts cash (as per other yelp reviews). So, no phone number, no prices anywhere on yelp, facebook page, or in the barbershop. Each of my kiddos was 25, so 50 in total- cash only. I usually tip 20% but because of not knowing exactly how much the service was, I had to tip less because I didn't have enough cash on me. Accepting credit cards, having set appointments, and a price list available would easily turn this 3 star review into a 5 star review. read more

When I went to fade kings i asked for a mid taper and they cut most of my hair off . The person cutting my hair smelt like weed, i think that's why he messed my cut because he was faded(no pun intended).Throughout the cut he kept asking me for what kind of haircut I wanted after telling him multiple times "just a mid taper". I'm a 40 year old dad, and didn't want anything fancy. I needed a men's business cut, and needed to be out the door and on a call in under 45 minutes. The owner David cut my hair, and did a great job. Clean, even cut, he worked quickly, and gave me exactly what I requested. We spoke while he worked, nice guy. He's a local who saved up and started his own shop. He worked for years at another shop in the area, and you can tell he knows his stuff. The first time I came, I got my cut by David. Very clean fade and he also freehanded a design as well. This second time around, I wish I got the guys name, I got a cut from the guy in the farthest chair from the door. Similar concept, asked for a fade and a design on the side. Didn't really have a certain style in mind, so I told him he could do anything. He still pulled up an image online to show me what he was going to do and ensure my approval. Barber went to high and took off the back portion of my hair that I would comb back. Barber also gave me uneven sides. What a hidden gem tucked away in Escondido! My son somehow got a hold of my husband's clippers...thus why we are here. Long story short, the guys are awesome and helpful. They were able to accommodate us despite their waitlist for the day. FYI-it's 1st come 1st serve and they don't do appointments so plan accordingly. My son loved the fact that he's in a Barbershop and not at mom's salon so he was pretty stoked about it. Considering that this is a real deal Barbershop, the prices are not atrociously high ($15) like some other Barbershops in town . Keep in mind this is a child's cut so adults may vary. Anyway, I love how the barbers engages with the customers and how they take their time in doing their job. Even though my son's hair was unsalvageable and had to be buzzed off, they took their time and detailed it to perfection so that he didn't look like a Holocaust survivor. My son and I have been coming to this shop for a while to have a haircut. Usually it's just hilarity watching the barbers interact with each other and the patrons. Everyone busts jokes on each other, it's really a family atmosphere. Today was much the same, however, even with a busy shop, when a partially blind man in his 90s came in for a haircut with only a couple dollars in his pocket, David and his crew were quick to reassure the man that they would take care of him. I use to be satisfied with their work but lately it has become really bad. Not only did my husband come home with a piece of his eyebrow shaved off! And you could tell it was from clippers but the barbers talk more to each other than actually paying attention to their work! They seem to value more of their hang out time with their coworkers than there customers. My son was with my husband and came home asking me what a "blunt" was!!!! Yes a blunt!! My husband explained one of the barbers expressed how he couldn't wait to light a blunt when he got home and another barber told him "hey there little kids in here" and the barber responded by saying "whatever they'll grow up doing it one day" REALLY! Even if that might be true, that's not your place to be speaking about things like that out loud teaching other people's children about such things! So disrespectful! Highly disappointed with how they all have become and we are never returning to this place again.
