It was such a great place to return to every evening instead of a hotel room. My coworkers and I enjoyed the amenities of home while being away from home. And the place was just so cool with all the antiques placed throughout and the knowledge of what materials the owner used while bringing this place back to life...adds the the place giving it a great story. Detroit native Nicole Curtis would be truly proud of this owner and venue. Though there is still some work being done mostly outside it will be a beautiful venue for small weddings or corporate retreats. My coworker goes away with friends every January/February to Deep Creek, Maryland but in 2016 this will be the new place after our recent stay. And a quick shout out to Cyndi who we worked with on the reservation; she was absolutely wonderful! She made us feel truly welcomed. They have someone do it, and that person has a habit of grabbing the apples with his fingernails which cuts into the apples. ALL of the apples. This happened over two seasons. Several people I know have had this same issue. A group of about 10 people left the line when they noticed it happening. I would love to make this go-to orchard but because of this hygiene issue, I just can't. And in case you wonder-they've been told it's an issue. They don't care I guess.

This Victorian facility was actively used for about 100 years until the 1980s when Amtrak, which by then was the operator of most of the remaining US passenger train operations, decided to cease service to Chelsea. The effort to restore the building began in 1985 by concerned members of the community who formed the Chelsea Depot Association. They clearly have done a superb job. It now appears to function as an event venue for weddings, etc. It also remains a structure to admire on the exterior as well.

I dont quite remember the capacity of the depot but we were able to set up many tables and chairs (that are provided in the rental). The kitchen area was large and cold and warm storage was available. We rented in the month of december and the depot was decorated lovely.

At my table we had the short rib hash, the boursin cheese egg sandwich, the salmon egg scramble & the sausage, egg and pimento sandwich. Everything was excellent. The hash had amazing roasted potatoes, a nice amount of meat and two beautiful fried eggs on top. Actually, all the dishes came with a side of roasted potatoes that were wonderful. One of the things that I think would really elevate this restaurant is if their orange juice was fresh squeezed. However, it was quite good. Mason absolutely ROCKED it! From the moment we arrived, Mason was incredibly hospitable, patient, kind, and attentive. He provided impeccable service and made our entire afternoon so enjoyable. But beyond his genuine kindness and exceptional service, Mason was an absolute professional when it came to wine. His knowledge of the wines, pairings, and recommendations was impressive--and every single suggestion he made was a HIT! We truly cannot say enough wonderful things about Mason. He went above and beyond to make sure our group had an amazing experience, and his personality and professionalism made the afternoon even more memorable. And honestly, Sandhill Crane Winery itself deserves a solid 10 stars! The ambiance, menu, wine selection, food from Little Kitchen, and the overall layout of the restaurant and winery were fantastic. Small but modern and clean bathrooms. The tables are nice but the chairs, both inside and in the outdoor ceremony area, are hard and uncomfortable. The outdoor wedding area has a pebble main aisle. The wedding party knew so the girls wore flats, but many of the women guests had a hard time with their heels. The area outdoors is sloped downwards toward the pond, so everyone gets a good look at the area where the couple exchange vows. The pond is very pretty, and there is a very small, maybe 1/2 acre, grape vine area. I believe this was planted to justify the winery theme in portions of the venue. The bar area is very basic, not even a sink, so the parties need to use ice tubs and kegs and keep the drinks very simple.
