Great place to have a drink. Wife had the sangria and I had the strawberry wine slush. Very good. The staff are always really nice and helpful. One thing, if you're getting a snack get the more expensive charcuterie boards. They are much nicer than the el cheapo that I got. It was good but not a lot. The rest of the menu looks good. We started our Mother's Day weekend with, what we hoped would be, a nice glass of wine at Sandhill Crane Vineyards. While we were there, our 6 year old child picked a flower for his Mom. To be clear, he should not have picked a flower from a flower pot. The owner, Kirk Peterson, was so angry about this, he yelled at a 6 year old child... This was terrifying to all three of our young kids and brought them to tears. Think about that: A grown man yelled at a child for picking a flower, for his mom on mother day weekend. He then tried justifying his actions by yelling at, and insulting, a mother... on mother day weekend. It is a small person who yells at a child. It's a pathetic person who then tries to justify it. I hope the community finds other local wine makers to support. We certainly will. read more

A friend has mentioned this winery before and as someone who has never been to one I believe this was a great starting point! I've been to 1 themed dinner so far, which was deliciously crafted by the kitchen and maintained by all the staff, and I have come alone to a drag performance by Betty J, who I hope comes back this year! I am more of a sweet white wine person but the Rhapsody in Red was a delicious option if anyone is looking for a good red. Sandhill is an enjoyable place to go and relax to enjoy some wine. They are located in the country so you get a nice relaxed country feel. Yet, they are t far off 94 to get there. The facility has a country feel. Lots of comfortable seating in the sun or on the porch. Everything is very welcoming and relaxing. The staff here is very friendly. They help each other and with to make your experience enjoyable. Lots of smiles and pleasant. The wines were nice. They have a large variety of sweet and drys. We found that we liked the Norm's the best - especially for a warm summer day. Norm's had a smooth flavorful blend of Chardonnay and vignoles. In general you can get a glass or a flight of wine to try. No traditional tastings at the wine bar. My wife really liked the hummus in her vegetarian wrap. The kettle chips were nice and crispy without being too greasy. My Wine Club sandwich was excellent. It was piled high with meat and very tasty. Overall...very good experience. Still a great place. It has been a few years since my previous visit and review. We decided to take a trip out this summer. Unfortunately, that got us hooked and we have been coming back quite regularly ever since. They have a wonderful patio. With a few fire tables. You can sit inside or outside even in the winter and enjoy the beautiful view. It's especially pretty all covered in snow. I love wine. Michigan wines have never been a huge hit for me though since they are typically way to sweet. I was glad to find a couple here that weren't. The Stainless Chardonnay and the Pinot Grigio are two I have tried and liked. I did plan to try more however I got hooked on the Spicy Sangria and can't get enough. It is winter now so they have stopped selling Sangria. It definitely should be available year around. You can purchase the Revenge Red (which is the Spicy version) still. Its nice that they offer Beer. Surprised how good they were. My husband is not much of a wine drinker, although he also likes the Sangria, so it's great that they offer something for non-wine lovers. They are now offering a smaller selection of foods and baked goods. Hopefully they will do more. Especially some items for people with allergies. The staff is friendly and helpful and goes out of their way to make you feel welcome. The only downside I feel are the hours. They are only open until 7:00. Until 9:00 one Friday a month and until 5:00 on Sunday. Not being someone who is much of a day drinker it's hard to come so early. Plus, most people get off work and can't make it before closing time. Especially if it's a longer drive as it is for us. read more

What an awesome experience! I had my birthday plans fall through so my fiancé and I were just going to go to a bar. Last minute I checked trip advisor for local things to do and I come across this vineyard. We are both so happy we did! Kat, the most beautifully wonderful human, helped us out all night. With it being our first time there she made sure we tasted a wide variety of the wine options they had. Which by the way are mostly small batch and many were made at that vineyard! Once we decided on our flight we each got our own individual drinks as well; I got a strawberry white wine slushy and my partner got a red wine lemonade with fresh blueberries! The best part was the atmosphere. Outside there was live music and seating right in the middle of the vineyard. We ended up sitting inside due to the mosquitoes (bring bug spray!). Inside was just as fun with a big stack of board games and music. I will be bringing everyone I know back to this vineyard. Very fair prices, wonderful customer service, beautiful atmosphere and they are lgbtq friendly. read more

I've been visiting this place for years...long before they built on and made it the fantasticalness that it is now. The wine selection has grown throughout the years, they added a little cafe for food as well as a deck and a stage for performances. It really is a hidden gem. The staff is super friendly and makes you feel welcome right when you come in the door. The variety of wines is pretty great as well and you are sure to find something that you or your friends will like. For those that maybe don't like wine, but tagged along for the fun they also have a few beers and ciders. Oh and I can't forget the wine slushies...mmm. Truly something for everyone to enjoy. This review is for my experience at the winery for a wedding. To get the downside out of the way first. Their capacity is much less than what they crammed in the dining room. They don't serve the food and therefore, if they run out before all tables come through the line, then the guest is SOL. They should have service, or smaller bowls, or larger portions. The cost should be by the person, not by the vat of soup, or tray of sandwich meats when it's prepared and provided onsite. Finally, the bar is in the same room with the guests, and when crammed in, there is no good way to queue for the bar (and appetizers too, as those we self serve on the bar too) This venue cannot hold 80 comfortably. Some people were forced to sit outside, as it was super hot, crowded. The food was ok, what I was able to get of it. I was one of the last 4 tables up and they were already out of food. The wine was great. I think there were two beers available that they pour from pitchers. I don't know where they were getting it from but I wasn't interested in flat beer. The wedding ceremony was beautiful. Great space on the lawn. Easy parking, easy to find, and not too far to walk from parking, lawn to the interior. They were still open to the public during the reception and we didn't see anyone. Still private on our side. Only note of caution is for the bees that were curious of all the guests. Also, not a bit of shade to be had out on the lawn. It got a bit rough. Hot and very bright. The bride and groom provided everything from chairs, archways, decor, etc. The space would be beautiful and perfect for 50 people, MAX. Having the option to go outside on the patio or sit at the beautiful tables. Enjoying the company and event. The venue should not be hocking the space for 80. This winery is still amazing. Dylan's Wine Club Turkey Sandwich has one of the best dressings I've ever tasted in a sandwich. At 36, I feel as if I've had a fair amount of sandwiches, so the sample size is appropriately large. Kay is one of the most inviting bartenders ever. You feel like you're family as soon as you walk in. The sassy rose is a wonderful semi-sweet option and I implore everyone to come and enjoy the ambiance of this bar. read more

A lovely afternoon at Sandhill Crane. I've tried some of their wine at different tasting rooms/wine bars and so glad I finally made it out to the winery itself. Even though it's kind of tucked away it is very well signed leading up to it from I-94. Great selection and variety of wines available. Love the that there is plenty of outdoor seating so that you can relax with your wine enjoying the beautiful scenery. Although we didn't order food from the cafe everything we saw come out looked delicious. Staff was also very friendly and did a great job making sure was having a great experience. This is our second visit to Sandhill Crane vineyards. Both times for a race. I ran the half marathon the first time and then the 10K. He came for support. Who am I kidding? He came for the WINE. This is a beautiful vineyard and for this race they set up tents with tastings. You can purchase the wine. You can also go into the winery where you can eat lunch and enjoy some wine and merchandise. I have decided that I want to start trying more local wineries. He's not a fan of Michigan wine but he will do it for me! I'm so glad races are starting back up. I will always run for alcohol! Another stop on my friend's bachelorette wine tasting weekend, we finished our afternoon at Sandhill Crane Vineyards. It had a great layout with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. We loved that you could build your own charcuterie board and that they offered a variety of local products for purchase in the shop (I bought a super cut, handmade ceramic mug from a local artist). As for the wine, and I'm not usually a big rose girl, we enjoyed their Sassy Rose (I think that's what it was called). I did think it was a little sh*tty that the girl who was pouring said we could "taste" a few of the wines before we decide which bottles to buy (*she said "for free") but then charged us multiple "tasting" fees. On our way home from a wedding in Ohio, we stopped by Sandhill Crane Winery. It has been about 4 years since we last visited this awesome winery. I like this winery because they have lots of events from painting to live music, you can sit outside or inside, and they offer food. You don't find this in many wineries here in the southern part of Michigan. Since it was an extremely warm Sunday afternoon, we both ordered their peach sangria. It hit the spot. Very refreshing and just sweet enough without being overpowering. Their peaches are grown on their property and they make this sangria with their Solstice semi-sweet wine, which they refer to as summer in a glass. Juicy ripe peach and mango flavors with a crisp, citrusy tangerine finish. We definitely plan on making a trip back to Jackson to sample more of their lovely wines. read more

This place is a hidden gem! I've popped in a few times and grabbed a bottle, but went with friends for a full tasting on a Saturday afternoon in April. It was pretty full, but every staff member that we came in contact with offered help and direction. We were seated in front of the cafe, which is much bigger than it looks. Our tasting professional was Ed, who was helpful and knew a lot about the different wine. They have a full array of wines, we were able to try as many as we wanted for $5. With us not being seated at the tasting bar, this did take a long time and was a lot of running for poor Ed. We were there for a longer time than probably necessary, but were having fun so it was fine. If I had one piece of advice I'd say they need a tasting counter in the cafe too, so the servers don't have to run back and forth so much. I LOVED the blush, and the Mystic was great too. This place is so lovely, with beautiful wraparound decks looking out into their vineyard. I've always had lovely service here, and the selection is great (more on that later). Unfortunately, they've recently removed all the actual food (sandwiches) from their menu, and only have dips and charcuterie (and the odd salad here and there). This is a huge bummer! You can no longer really stop here to actually have lunch, which places all the pressure on the wine portion - and their selection is unfortunately now pretty small. While the appetizers we had were good, we came for lunch, so this was a bummer. Also, they would not do the tasting at the table anymore, only at the counter, so I believe you can no longer sit outside doing the tasting. This is consistent with other wineries, but it was a cool part about this one, and I'm sorry to see it go. On a brighter note, the event space looks ideal for weddings or even showers or work events. I'd love to see their attention to customer service grow a bit (the folks serving in the food side are a bit lacking in cheer, although they seem to have a lot more free time since they're no longer actually making food...) overall, has the ability to be a very strong location - but bring back the proper food and outdoor tastings, and emphasize customer service, and I'm sold. read more

All the local Michigan goodness in one store! Zingerman's in Ann Arbor tends to be a long wait for their sandwiches and snacks, but luckily, they are a staple in most local businesses including Sandhill Crane. We came here on the drive home for a late lunch. The vineyard is just off the expressway about 2 miles. It will be hidden if dark, but during the summer hours a peaceful getaway with lots of wine tasting. The $5 tasting allows you to sample a quarter pour all of their whites, reds, semi-sweet, sweet and dessert wines. It's probably one of the better wineries in Michigan, but I'm not a big fan of the wines in this area. Either way, a fun and cheap excursion. The food is pretty good. Half half of the Michigan salad with mini Thanksgiving sandwich was a healthy amount. Casual sit down place, order at the counter and they drop off food. Great rest stop from all the driving, nice staff and yummy food. read more

The tasting was an excellent price at $5 for all the tastings you wanted - there must have been at least 25 different wines - and I only sampled a few as I had to drive. The cafe was nice. I got the turkey, Brie and cranberry panini. I'd rate it at a 6/10. Could have been better but was decent. I from out of state so I bought 4 bottles and had them shipped home. I usually pay about $20 for shipping but they charged $36 which I thought was a little steep. Overall a nice place to visit and excellent wine! Let me just say that this place has really gone from good to great since adding on the expansion. Before it was simply one of my favorite places in Michigan to stop in for a quick wine tasting, pick up a bottle or two that I can pop open to impress my guests later that month, and be on my way. Now that they've added the expansion, they have a full kitchen, a deli counter, space for live music or other attractions - it's really a destination where you can go and spend an entire afternoon or evening enjoying yourself. Very nice hidden gem in Jackson, MI. The food served is prepared with Michigan made items. The Maddie sandwhich was good and the soup of the day: wild rice bisque was great. We also enjoyed a cheese plate with delicious crackers & apple slices. One of the cheeses stood out among the others and we were told it was a gouda with dill. The combo was great. The wine tasting is very generous for only $5. Very nice place to go to get away from all the typical soup, salad and sandwich type places with the added benefit of wine. read more

This winery is beautiful the only reason I didn't give a 5 is that we were hoping to have our favorite turkey sandwich we loved last time. However we very much enjoyed the charcuterie it was as much fun picking our choices as it was eating it. I would like to give huge kudos to the staff we had brought our dogs and they were a little excited to see everyone and all the girls came over to say hi, give them hugs and also bring water. Thank you girls also for helping us clean up my husbands spilled wine what a travisty he hadn't even tasted it. We had a bottle of Pinot Grigio that was fantastic perfectly chilled with wonderful crisp dry fruity flavors as we took in the soothing view. I have been to this Vineyard a total of 3 times over the course of 10 years. They used to have 30+ wines & you could try them all for free!! It was AMAZING!!! About a year or 2 ago, they started to charge for tastings (I wasn't surprised). It's $6 for 8 tastings. But their wine list has really shrunk. They have more sweet/dessert/port wines. There are some dry ones. But not as much. I still love the place. The wine pourer was not knowledgeable at all when I went there. She did not explain any of the wines. But that's only 1 out of a lot of wine pourer's. I wish she was knowledgeable about the wines and was able to explain them to me. Again, I still love the place. They have a cafe connected to it, that I have not tried yet. I will go back again! read more

Wow!! I can't believe there's a winery this good so nearby! It's just like being up north. The grapes are grown right on the property, and the winery itself is pretty big. There's a section for wine tasting and a section for the cafe. We sat in the wine section, but went and ordered dinner and brought it over to our table. Their apple and brie grilled cheese sandwich was AMAZING. Like, I would consider driving over there just to get one to-go. The cheese board was great too. The wine tasting was a good deal, and there were a couple wines I really liked. I'd love to go back when the weather is nice and sit outside. Can't wait to go back! read more
