Stopped by here for a quick drink, so I can't speak to the food. Upon walking in, it was a lot darker than I originally anticipated with classic pub decor. The AC wasn't really on so it was hotter closer to the front where the doors were open! We sat at the bar and came during HH so I got the house red wine (Pinot noir) the house wines on HH are Pinot Grigio and Chardonnay. The only beers on HH are domestic bottles. Cute, cozy Irish pub. It's full of Irish decor, has a decent amount of seats and a great selection of whiskey and other spirits. The first time I went to use the restroom it was working, however, when I went later it was marked out of order. There is another restroom downstairs (which I didn't know about), so at least that's good, right? This is def a place you can come to after work for a quick drink or to meet up with friends before heading out for the night. Vibe inside is great and it's always lively, but the drinks themselves were never very good. My partner got a red wine (probably not a great pick for a pub but it is what it is) and it was pretty obviously spoiled, and even the draft I ordered was subpar. I stopped by, asked for a Stella and she said that we don't have those here. So, I pointed to the Stella draft knob and then was hit with "we only serve Guinness" .. not true. But, go on. A man who Failte employees informed was the owner's very close friend groped me after making lewd comments about my racial features in the middle of their bar room at about 7am during their after hours service. Of course he was extremely intoxicated, and had clearly been over-served like many of the other patrons. (Many people in the bar witnessed this, including who I'm told is the owner.) I asked for this person to be removed, and instead I was kicked out of the establishment. I won't repeat the things that were said to me here, but it was very disturbing and it is clear that the owner is a racist and has issues with women. My companions were still inside (they had no way of knowing where I was), I didn't have a way to get home and some strangers paid for my cab home. Everyone seemed afraid of the owner, they would say that what happened was disgusting but not to where the owner or his friends could hear. Each time I've been here, I've been sexually assaulted or had something stolen. I have noticed that as a non-white woman I get a lot of unwanted attention here. After a few years, I also noticed that I had to have white men with me in order to be let in after hours or they would turn me away--even if I was meeting people inside. I thought it had to be people the owners knew (understandable), but found out that wasn't true after several instances where I went with white men who'd never even been to NYC before. I had to tell my friends I'm not accompanying them to this establishment ever again. This was pre-pandemic, of course. I think the 1 star review is self explanatory, please read the others as well. read more

Great place to relax and grab a beer. I went here on a weekend afternoon to grab a beer and get some work done. The ambiance was lively but not disruptive. The staff is very attentive with a great selection of beers. The prices are very reasonable. There are a couple of TVs to watch sports. Music is good. Came here on a Thursday night for trivia. Was my friends and I's first time and was pretty fun! Starts at 8:00. Max of 6 people per team. Trivia is upstairs and had multiple rounds. There are prizes of $30 of your tab for the first place team and "swag" gifts for 2nd place. Bartender said there wasn't any happy hour specials but the food and drinks were cheap anyway. Glass of wine was $8 and burger with fries was also $8. Also had mozzarella sticks and rolled quesadilla apps. All decently tasty for a bar. read more

This place is illegally placing loud speakers in or near its outdoor dining space, and BLASTING MUSIC (both live and recorded) for the entire intersection to hear, with dozens of high rise buildings nearby. Late into a Sunday night, most recently. I called the police, and they said they'd already received 8 complaints in the previous hour from other residents in the area. Not surprising. What arrogance, to think that your handful of patrons should be able to listen to awful karaoke and top 20 hits on the sidewalk at the inconvenience of literally HUNDREDS of nearby residents. If you have a child and live nearby, there's no way he/she could have gone to sleep with this volume coming into your home. This is not a one-time thing. Happening repeatedly. read more

Came here for Disney trivia night. Staff was very friendly and approachable. ATMOSPHERE/ARCHITECTURE: 8/10 Nice warm and inviting atmosphere. Kind of like a house party feel almost. There is a second floor with couches and things like that but I didn't get to see much of it as I sat on the first floor. SERVICE : 7/10 No real complaints here. The trivia was ran smoothly and the bartenders were attentive. FOOD: N/A/10 Didn't get a chance to try any food here. PROBABILITY OF RETURN: 7/10 I'd definitely return here for trivia nights. Failte means "welcome" in Gaelic and you feel just that when you step into this great bar on 2nd Ave. It reminds me of some of the old Irish pubs in cities like Kerry and Tipperary. The Irish music playing over the speakers, exposed beam ceilings, beautiful wood furnishings and one of the best poured pints of Guinness really makes me feel at home. I came here for a going away party- and was surprised by: 1. The live DJ was great! I danced up a storm (yes I was one of the two people that were randomly dancing in an Irish bar) 2. Standard Irish pub with a second floor for performances. Upstairs, a tall dude bartender likely not hired for his mixology skills poured me a pretty sad excuse for a Guinness. For better beers, head downstairs, where you can get some decent, if unsurprising, taps--Goose Island, Blue Moon, etc. Crowd seemed to be stolidly yuppie from the Murray Hill/Kips Bay community. There's a pool table with darts in the back on the ground floor. You can certainly do worse in the Irish Pub category, but you can doubtlessly do better (Molly's). read more

This is my neighborhood pub! I love it! All of the bartenders are so friendly. It has that "everybody knows your name" feel. It's not full of typical finance bros like other bars in the Murray hill area. It's a great after work spot on week days as well as a late night spot after a wild night on a weekend. stay away from this bar. the main bartender gets off on screaming at women half his age. so here's the story, I was in a sports league with about 10 people and I really only knew two of them. We come into this bar and at first everything is fine. I was the closest to the bar and asked everyone for their drink orders and said I'd put it on my tab and we'd figure it out later. The group thanked me but everyone wanted to have their own tabs as we didn't know each other well and were all potentially leaving at different times. Being as I was a bartender in the past, I know this isn't ideal for the staff of a bar, but it happens and you just smile, handle it and move on. Instead, when I told the bartender we'd be doing separate tabs, he screamed at me very publicly not once, but three separate times. The first was a string of expletives such as "you've gotta be f***ing kidding me" and then walked away, when he came back I just said put it all under my last name, trying to diffuse the situation and more expletives followed. I thought at that point it was done, but NO, he rounded on the bar again and asked me if I had any clue what Venmo was, to the point where my group was very physically uncomfortable and it was clear he was just harassing me at that point. I very politely but firmly made it clear the conversation was over and I didn't speak to him for the remainder of the time we were there. The real shit part of this is at the end when he handed me my bill, just me and my closest friend's drinks were on it and everyone had done their own tabs anyway, and the dumb fuck looked surprised that our group had done that anyway even after he threw a hissy fit about not being able to handle it. No apology, no nothing. If you can't handle being a bartender, don't be one. read more

It's pretty embarrassing that bartenders are tasked with arguing with patrons about the fact that their website says $1 bud light drafts on trivia night, when it's $5 a draft in real life. 2 hour open bar and a pizza making class. Of course, I would be on the planning committee for such an event. One of my colleagues suggested Failte and it happened to be a perfect choice. Prior to the event, I contacted the manager to see whether my alumni organization would have the opportunity to hook up a projector to "live Tweet" the event. He was a very agreeable guy, and although he did not have a projector on-site, he offered to have his staff help me if I encountered any issues. On the evening of the event, all of the logistics went without a hitch. How often does THAT happen? We were able to get four pizza ovens and all of our supplies upstairs prior to guests arriving. I can't imagine there are many bars in NYC that will allow us to be cooking pizzas (one attendee whipped up a creation that had a nice "char" to it), so it was great to have management be so accommodating. We were also given an excellent space - we had the entire upstairs room to ourselves. Our bartender was extremely friendly, and my goodness, did she make a strong vodka soda. read more

I generally love this bar; cheap food and a quiet atmosphere (we generally frequent this place in the mid-afternoon). The past 3x we have gone we have been satisfied...until today 5/15/2013 It was 5:30pm and there was probably 7 people in the bar. When we sat down, there was only one of the runners behind the bar and no bartender. After 5 minutes the runner went to the back and yelled for the bartender to come back to the bar. This old guy makes his slowest approach back to the bar and serves this other group that showed up a bit after we did. After he got their beer and took their money he made his way back to the other end of the bar and never even saw us. We then decided to just walk out. When we first walked in, we initially wanted food and drink, then just a drink, to just flat out nothing. I know this bar is better than this one bad experience, and I do look forward to returning (and updating my review rating) Hopefully seeing the younger bartender again rather than this old guy again that is slower than molasses. read more

I am NOT a fan of Murray Hill. But if I find myself forced to go out in the area again, Failte will be near the top of my list. This is a standard Irish pub, but it's less Americanized and fraternity-ized than most of the other "Irish" pubs in the neighborhood. It just has a more authentic feel to it. There is a pool table in the back and another bar upstairs, so there's always plenty of room to hang out with your peeps. They serve standard pub fare as well as traditional Irish dishes. I wouldn't say any of the food will blow you away, but it's never a bad thing to chow on some wings or an "Irish toastie" while swilling a cold brew. Google tells me that "Failte" means "welcome." I'd say that Failte is a welcome change from the standard Murray Hill spot. read more

Failte is an Irish pub in the very sense of the word(s). The scotch is top-notch, the liquor selection is diverse, (honey-flavored rum? Check.) and the bartenders are quick to fill your glass. I took a bunch of people to Failte for the college basketball national championship due to the aforementioned glass-filling capabilities, the HD TV's, their willingness to play the game audio, and the off-the-beaten path feel to the place. It was barely full, but all the clientele were college basketball junkies. (The best kind of clientele.) I've found it difficult to get a reservation for the private upstairs room (HD TV's, couches, candles, and ability to play your iPod), but it's for a good reason: They seem to give preferential treatment to their regulars when they book a party. I tried to book something a few months in advance and someone already got to them. As frustrating as it was, I like that there's an underground following for this often-missed private party space on 2nd ave. I live a few steps away from this bar which I never got a chance to frequent until recently...and what a delight it is to find that it is not some dark stanky old Irish bar but actually a pretty lively place with a few flat screen TVs facing patrons at the bar and a cool room in the back with a swanky pool table and a jukebox. The wooden stools and chairs give an old school feel and even though the place is small-ish I have a feeling it can feel quite a number of people, especially with its little nooks and crannies. Well after going to this place I really have to laugh at everyone's reviews. It would appear most people were upset with the Kips Bay/Murray Hill crowd of the usual FratBoy Stokktrader types. I must say, I didn't have a problem with them, at all. Here's why: I came in here on Saturday nite to hang out with a friend for her birthday. Now Saturday nite, I'm expecting the worst, but really I don't care that much because it's a friend's bday and I hate missing those. I get there, and, there's no one there! Now in defense of the bar, it was kind of early (it wasn't 10pm yet) but I was expecting there to be a lot of Murray Hill types and there were none to speak of. We hung by the bar and had some drinks and I ended up leaving early (heading downtown for another birthday) and there still wasn't a lot of people there. So I guess I don't get to complain about the people. The prices seemed a bit high (i ordered a Bud light and an Amstel Light and it came out to $10) but it was a nice vibe. Here's the rundown... There is outside seating, like two small tables for you to hang out at and have a drink. Inside the bar is long with ample seating. There's also a pool table just past that, and TVs for everyone to watch their respective sporting events. I also heard there's an upstairs area with beerpong and such, but I wasn't there long enough to go upstairs and start the massacre on a table. Ah well, maybe next time if I'm in the area. It's a cool bar that's a bit away from the other Murray Hill staples so maybe that's why this past Saturday was missing those folks...I didn't really miss them though! read more

You know what I don't understand about bars at 8pm on a Thursday? Why they blare music to the point where not only is conversation out of the question - but ordering drinks is next to impossible. It gets a third star from me because of the (limited) outdoor seating, that allowed me to escape the deafening music. This place has a long wooden bar, it feels like everybody in the place could sit at the bar if they wanted. It's dark, but fits the bill for Irish pub. The bathrooms are downstairs and down a hallway, which is the only downside, IMO. There's a good pour of Guinness here, and the crowd seems pretty chill. This is a decent Irish pub. I went here for a private party upstairs. Its a small place, but it got the job done. The bartender was great and he handled the onslaught of 50 drunkards pretty well. If you have a party and need a space, give them a try. read more
